OC name meanings for SOTSK

I saw @blind-the-winds do this and they had it as an open tag so I thought I'd contribute! I love name meanings so letsa go:

The Dalions

Jamos: Altered form of "James" which is Hebrew for "Supplanter"

Katrine: Altered form of "Katherine", meaning 'pure', and is Greek in origin

Laedir: Made up. Though I think it means 'leather' in Dutch with a different spelling so....

Quinnton: Latin, meaning 'the fifth'

Bronwyn: Welsh, meaning 'white breasted' (I've heard this was meant to imply 'pure hearted' ?), also 'white raven'

Gevin: A mix of "Kevin" and "Gavin" - Kevin is an anglicized Irish name meaning 'handsome', and Gavin is most commonly thought to be Celtic in origin, meaning 'white hawk' *

Ciaran: Irish, meaning 'little dark one' (referencing colouring/hair colour)

Jerod: Alternate spelling of "Jared", a Hebrew name meaning 'descent'

Cassian: Latin, 'empty' or 'hollow'

Nurei: Initially made up, I think I stole it from some online story about fairies I read in like 2009 and spelled it differently. HOWEVER upon researching, I found out that "Nura" and "Nureh" are real names of Arabic origin, meaning 'light'

Esme: Old French for 'esteemed'

Jessylle: Reworking of "Giselle", a Norman French play on a Germanic word meaning 'pledge'

Jena: From "Jennifer", a Cornish version of the Welsh "Guinevere/Gwynhwyfar", meaning 'white' or 'white wave'

Brenna: Celtic, 'little raven'

Gwyn: See above ^^

Nysel: All I can find is that "Nysell" is a surname, but idk what it means

Neroli: Italian, referring to orange blossom scent (fun fact, I stole the idea of naming a character this from a girl at my high school who had the name Neroli *shrugs*) **

Taigen: Reworking of "Teagan", Irish meaning 'poet' or 'philosopher'

Mariel: Danish, 'star of the sea' (did not know this was a real name until I googled it, I thought I was just spelling "Muriel" with a different vowel)

*no, I didn't name both the twins after white birds on purpose, it just Turned Out That Way and honestly I'm a little insane about it

**I definitely did not go through my yearbooks to find kids I didn't even talk to who had cool names and make a list of them to Use

There are way way too many characters in my book but I'm gonna leave it there...

Jamos Dalion- Sagittarius (December 8) In general he gives off more Capricorn vibes but I REALLY was attached to the idea of him being born in early December for Reasons.

Laedir Dalion- Cancer (June 24) Such a feely sad little man he is. Very involved in his family and gets nostalgic easily.

Hello and happy STS! :D If your main characters were sucked into our world, The Devil Is a Part-Timer-style (i.e., dropped into our world without the resources/status they had in theirs, transformed into basically human with no powers, and the only thing they've got are the clothes on their back and their memories), how well would they fare? What would they do to survive, who's failing at adapting and how, and most importantly, who is working at McDonald's?

OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST QUESTION AND I'M SORRY I DIDN'T GET AROUND TO IT EARLIER!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so I'm thinking like, the Dalion family as a whole because I feel like that would be the most chaotic. Not gonna analyze every single one of them bc there are. a lot. but that's the gist of it.

Jamos would have a lot of trouble coming to terms with not being someone in power and being seen as just some guy

Laedir would probably have a bit of a breakdown at first but as long as he's got his family with him he'd get used to it and find a way to make things work

(and probably would actually thrive a lot more here ngl. Therapy?? Hello???)

I think Jerod would actually be the one to scout out the general area and figure out stuff from the people who live there

He'd probably go "well, fake it til you make it" and just pretend to the best of his ability that he does in fact know where he is and everything is perfectly normal thanks very much I was definitely born in this world and this century *dying inside*

Obsesses over maps though

Would want to know everything

Gevin would do drugs

Not even kidding he'd cope by trying to find all the many ways to piss off his dad and be Edgy in a different world so he'd mayyybe also end up starting a gang

I don't think Ciaran would really care at all so long as he doesn't have to live in a city

I think Bronwyn would be so relieved at the amount of options young women have compared to where she's from

She'd probably try to go to college immediately

(Which would require...a *lot* of work seeing as she's literally not from this world and has no money or knowledge)

Esme would try a goth look just because she can

Nurei would test out different aesthetics on her to see what kind of look would be the best on them in this new world (to Esme's extreme reluctance)

She'd probably also try to start a makeup Youtube channel once she figures out what either of those things are

I think Nurei and her mom would be the ones to actually figure things out at the beginning, find them some kind of place to live and manage to get money somehow

...I think Cassian would end up at McDonalds lol

And he'd have so much fun honestly. He's make it a competition no one asked for to try to whip up the best burger anyone's ever seen

Also he's good at being loud

Quinnton would get really into sports, he likes the strategy aspects of it and just getting to be a littttle violent without an actual battle going on

29. which ocs can talk their way out of any situation?

For sure Gevin. This is canon 100%. He's super quick witted and sneaky, able to convince anyone of anything if he wants to. He can also debate for hours, as impatient and quick to anger as he can be, he also can just. keep. going if he thinks he's got the upper hand.

42. which ocs have the most patience?

Jerod, probably. Also I think Katrine (his mother) has a ton of patience as well, she'd have to dealing with all these absolutely insane children. (Also Iantha Telsane, the leader of their country, has to deal with Jamos Dalion at least twice a year so I'd say she's pretty patient)

43. which ocs like to work in public places? which prefer to work in private?

I think Quinnton would work (whatever that means to him) in public because he likes to show off is pretty extroverted and doesn't mind being noticed. I think Cassian and Nurei would also be okay with it, they're the more social ones of our main family. Ciaran, conversely, would literally spontaneously combust if he had to do anything that makes him feel at all vulnerable in front of Anyone. He's incredibly private, to the degree that even Jerod, who is closest to him at the beginning of the story, reeeally doesn't know anything about him.

The Dalion Siblings

I’ve talked about Jerod and Laeder, who are our major players in this family, but it’s high time I mentioned the rest of their siblings because there’s a whole bunch of them. I won’t go into quite as much detail because they’re more minor characters but you can always message me if you’d like to know more. (On ages - these are the characters’ starting ages but they do grow a lot throughout the book, it covers many years)

Quinnton

-18 at the start of book 1 -Second oldest -The practical joker -One of those people who can mess around but also act mature when he’s around adults and needs to look Grown Up -Good older brother -Would be a good dad -Probably genuinely likes dad jokes -Won’t let anyone cut his hair

Bronwyn

-16 -The older twin and she never lets him forget it -Doesn’t like people -A Mess  -Loves her family to death but also kind of wishes they’d shut up -Good at math -The logical one

Gevin

-Also 16 -The taller twin and he never lets her forget it -Seriously, tall AF -Knows how to throw knives. Why? How and when did he learn? No one knows -The angsty one -A lot smarter than he comes across -Surprisingly good with kids

-13 -Nerd -If you thought Jerod was a nerd...Ciaran’s even nerdier -The one closest in age to Jerod so they hang out a lot...though from his point of view it’s mainly just out of convenience  -Big animal lover -Fights with Cassian A Lot -Likes to be left alone -Major procrastinator

-10 -Big youngest child syndrome even though he’s not the youngest -Loud -Wants constant attention -Will talk to anybody -Pretends he’s not afraid of ghosts but is definitely afraid of ghosts

-7 -Girly girl -Everyone loves her, they can’t help it -Absolutely hates it when someone tells her to do something she’s already in the middle of doing/about to do. She will no longer do it under any circumstance. -Loves babies of any and every kind. Baby humans, baby cats, baby crickets, you name it.  -Literally anything is cute to her. Creepy insects? Cute. Literal goblins? Adorable.

-5 -Chaotic -Puts everything in her mouth  -Even when she gets older she chews her fingernails, her sleeves, anything. It’s a nervous habit. -Absolutely does not care what anybody thinks -Will fight you with all her tiny ferocity
