Light world! I've been excited to debut this style for basically the entire run of the comic. The panel gutters are inspired by the window borders on the console versions of the game.

a/n: complex because he genuinely does not have the same context or grasp on gender that even a light world character would. and also complex because he's goop. on a literal level, no, because he was created as a boy and continues to mostly identify as one, even if he doesn't have the strongest grasp on what a boy Is. people have tried to explain the concept to him, but it seems weird and baffling so he's just like "yeah sure I can be a boy. or whatever makes you happiest to call me."

on a metaphorical level, though? absolutely. he experiences significant dysmorphia about his current form to the point where he feels it's necessary to hide it at all times. he wishes to have a different appearance, and feels he cannot "pull off" his preferred gender presentation until he reaches a point where his body more closely matches his identity. even if he doesn't adhere to the same cultural standards of gender we impose on him, I would still consider what's going on with him a trans allegory, at the very least

#i like making darkners have unusual gender stuff. it's fun #i have a lot of thoughts about transness fate and the status quo particularly as it relates to kris and ralsei but its late lol #what i will say re: darkners is that they have No reason to have gender roles. whatever ideas of gender they come with #are largely imposed on them via the lightners and more importantly the player #for instance being butch is just who tenna is. she doesn't consider it unusual in any way. shed be baffled if someone else did #in the same way ralseis gnc-ness is just unremarkable to him. hes a boy who likes dresses. his ideal presentation is being cute and pretty #he would be confused if someone suggested that it was unusual or against the norm in any way for him to like girly things #because of that i don't know if any of them could meaningfully be considered transgender. they just Are #but on an allegorical level yeah. ralseis current body is Creepy and Wet. he wishes to transition into being Cute and Cuddly. transgender.
