Welcome to Something Eternal: A Website Forum in 2023 wtf lmao

It's 2023, and a single belligerent rich guy destroyed one of the primary focal points of uh...global communication. Tumblr is, shockingly, kinda thriving despite the abuse it gets from its owners, but that I will call the iconic refusal of Tumblr users to let Tumblr get in the way of their using Tumblr. Reddit killed its API, removing the functionality of mobile apps that made it remotely readable (rip rif.) Discord, our current primary hangout, has made countless strange choices lately that indicate it has reached the summit of its usability and functionality, and can only decline from here as changes get made to prepare for shareholders. (NOTE: WROTE THIS POST BEFORE THEIR MOBILE "REDESIGN" LMAO)

The enshittification is intense, and it's coming from every direction. Social media platforms that felt like permanent institutions are instead slowly going to let fall fallow incredible amounts of history, works of art, thought, and fandoms. It kinda sucks!

A couple years ago, I posted about a new plan with a new domain, to focus on the archiving of media content, as I saw that to be the fatal weakness of the current ways the internet and fandoms work. Much has happened since to convince me to alter the direction of those efforts, though not abandon them entirely.

Long story short? We are launching a fucking website forum. In 2023.

If you remember In the Rose Garden, much about Something Eternal will be familiar. But this has been a year in the making, and in many ways it's far more ambitious than IRG was. We have put money on this. The forum is running on the same software major IT and technology businesses use, because I don't want the software to age out of usability within five years. It has an attached gallery system for me to post content to, including the Chiho Saito art collection. It has a profile post system that everyone already on the forum has decided is kinda like mini Twitter? But it is, fundamentally, a website forum, owned and run and moderated by us. We are not web devs. But we have run a website on pure spite and headbutting code for over twenty years, and we have over a decade of experience maintaining social spaces online, both on the OG forum, and on our Discord. Better skilled people with far more time than we have can and will build incredible alternatives to what is collapsing around us. But they're not in the room right now. We are. And you know what? Maybe it's time to return to a clunkier, slower moving, more conversation focused platform.

You're not joining a social media platform with the full polish of dozens of devs and automated moderation. Things might break, and I might need time to fix them. The emojis and such are still a work in progress. Because e-mails no longer route in reasonable normal ways, the sign-up process instead happens within the software, and has to be approved by mods. Design and structure elements may change. Etc. The point being, that the forum isn't finished, but it is at a place where I feel like I can present it to people, and it's people I need to help direct what functions and things will be in this space. You all will shape its norms, its traditions, its options...choices I could try to make now, but really...they're for us to create as a group! But the important stuff? That's there. Now let's drive this baby off the damn lot already!

I think what trips people up in the neurodivergent vs. physically disabled discourse is that you can't treat disabilities the same way as you treat LGBTQ+ identities. The goal for LGBTQ+ identities if for us all to one day be equal to cishet+ people. Someones gender identity or sexuality or race will not make them inherently more privileged or oppressed eventually. But with illnesses it's different.

I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user. I am disabled, but someone who is paralyzed is less privileged than me even though we both use wheelchairs and are disabled. For example, if I reach an area that is inaccessible, I can stand up and go around or remove the obstacle. It is not as easy for someone who is a full time wheelchair user. But we are still both disabled. Someone who has only ADHD and no physical disabilities is more privileged than someone with physical disabilities. Both people are disabled. However if the building is burning down, one person can take the stairs and escape and one person has to wait for rescue. And for the foreseeable future, unless there comes a day that prosthetics and medicine become so advanced there are no longer any negative aspects of disability (pain, illness, mobility, mental state), this will be the case.

And instead of trying to burst into the paraplegic support group and whine at them and throw a fit that they aren't talking about ME, I use my privilege to advocate for more accessibility in my town and at my college campus. Not that they aren't able to, but being able to mask my disability has put me in sort of a medium between abled people and the disabled community. I've been able to help so I do.

I am physically disabled, so I consider myself part of the cripplepunk community. I can do this because people look at me and label me as a cripple. People don't look at a mentally ill/neurodivergent person and do that. There are other descriptors used for neurodivergents if you would like to reclaim one of them.

Also, I consider myself neurodivergent as well. Some of you don't consider that people can be physically disabled AND neurodivergent. The barriers I faced with my neurodivergence and the barriers I faced with my physical disability are worlds apart. Both are challenging, but my physical disability has been harder. Does that mean I should ignore my neurodivergence? Does that mean neurodivergents should no longer be supported? Of course not! But in many cases, especially in modern times, mental health has made a ton of progress but it's left us physically disabled peeps behind. So please stop talking over physically disabled and chronically ill people and derailing the little support we get for yourselves. You aren't a cripple and you don't need to be one to be a part of the larger disabled community. You don't need to be a cripple to get support. In our society it's the opposite. We get left behind, ignored, our lives ripped from us. And yea, neurodivergents have this happen to them too but please understand that our pain has continued while neurodivergence is becoming more accepted.

I was able to get on meds so easily. I was screened for depression at my school. There were problems with this of course but they actually tried to seek out depressed kids and help them (even if it caused issues). Yes it costs money. Yes it may be harder outside of the states (or easier idk). But the same shit happens to us cripples as well and our mobility devices cost THOUSANDS out of pocket while meds cost hundreds at the most. My psychiatrist gave me a Zoloft prescription my first appointment and my rheumatologist laughed at me for wanting a walker.

We are tired and we are mad. We have a right to be angry at the mistreatment we've suffered. It's incredibly insulting to dismiss that pain. It's what our doctors do to us, our parents, our friends, our communities. Stop tearing us down to push yourselves further forward. If you truly want to get rid of any division in our community, help bring us up to your level instead of throwing a tantrum about the meanie cripples not letting you take our word that doesn't even fit you. It's insulting to want a word so bad that would never be thrown at you in the first place. It's like a cis binary queer person crying that they can't use the word tranny for themselves.

Please try to understand our pain and educate yourselves about history and experiences outside of your own diagnosis. Don't assume we have it easier because you see us. Most people don't.

About the archive - The files here were previously scattered across multiple websites and cloud storage services, making them difficult to acquire to those outside the small Guilty Gear archival group. I did my best to gather them all in one place. Please contact me if more files are discovered and I will add them to the archive upload on Archive.org.

The ripped mobile port files - The mobile version of Vastedge XT was only online and available to even download for around a year before the servers shut down. The two .OBB and one .APK file were ripped from the Android port of the game and are what Tillman ripped the animated assets, meshes, sounds, and textures from. A lot could not be ripped because it was stored on the game's servers. The encryption also makes ripping files from these difficult. It's possible there's more on them that was not able to be ripped.

Japanese file names - The original name of the .APK was ﾊﾟﾁｽﾛ GG_com.dtechno.slotguilty.apk and had to be renamed to be compressed into a .ZIP folder. If the file runs into errors during launch/cracking attempts, try reverting the name. Likewise, the Japanese names of the videos could not be compressed and were also translated. There is a separate .TXT file within VXT VIDEOS that includes their original Japanese file names.

Duplicate concept art images - There were two archives of the concept art. One was hosted on e-hentai by Mister Guest and contained the full, uncropped, images. The second was from a folder that Volcanic had compiled. Volcanic's files were a higher resolution, but were cropped and missing some information Mister Guest's files had. I've included them both here as well as the files from a third archive where an anonymous user on Imgur had restored the colors on the character models to match how they look in the game itself.

Neon colors on the concept art - The neon sections on these character model sheets are temporary/placeholder colors and not how they appeared within the Vastedge XT game. Their true colors can be seen in the videos within the VXT VIDEOS folder or in the FIXED COLORS folder within VXT CONCEPT ART.

Dialog transcripts - What we know of Vastedge's story came from official story summaries posted by Arc System Works on the Guilty Gear websites. The dialog is exactly that: character dialog. There may be lines missing, that are inaccurate (due to typos), or other written/spoken parts of VXT not included. It may be possible to get this missing information from the videos in VXT VIDEOS or from other VXT video sources online.

this is mostly gonna apply to specifically swiftie tumblr, and even then like. you’re totally free to present yourself however you want, but these are just the dominant cultural norms

URLS

album and song titles are the most sought after

lyrics are also very popular (the shorter the better)

dashes are considered a bit cringe but slight misspellings or adding an s to words are fine

adding your name to your url will make people go 🫵 twitter user 🫵

PROFILE PICTURES

you should have a pfp chosen before you start following people, otherwise people will go “oh fuck a bot” and automatically block you

pictures of yourself will also make people go 🫵 twitter user 🫵

gradient/one color backgrounds behind a picture of taylor are still very common, but plain pictures of taylor are also a vibe

if they have that one particular pale pink-ish with a bit of grain filter people will go 🫵 twitter user 🫵

displaying your pfp in a circle format on your mobile theme is more common but if you have it square people won’t judge you

BACKGROUND IMAGES

there’s lots of acceptable ways to do this but something unique to tumblr is playing with the border between the background and the rest of your blog

a few years ago it was super popular to add a ripped paper effect to the bottom, and that’s still hanging on

a curved border (either a wave or a bowl shape) is also fairly common

making the picture smaller than the borders has started to gain traction (i started noticing it becoming popular like, mid pandemic)

hiding the pfp from your mobile theme to make your background flow more is super common but the color schemes should still compliment each other

MOBILE THEME

you can use this handy dandy tool to make your background/text color match a color in your background/pfp

i’d say white or black backgrounds are still the most common but i’ve found the colored background with white text to be making a strong comeback

there’s not a ton of judgement about this, as long as it all matches

BLOG TITLE

blog titles can really be whatever but in general keep it short (less that one row)

a short lyric, a word, or an emoji are the most common options

DESCRIPTION

i’ve found getting on a computer and going to yoururl.tumblr.com and clicking on the little painting thing on the top right corner to be the best way to edit text but the mobile app works fine too (unless you’re adding links then you have to go on a computer)

in general 2-3 rows are the most common, and ideally it’s not just one big wall of text

general format is name (this is where you link your caard/about page) / age/age range / pronouns in the top row and a (short) lyric you like in the bottom

another popular format is everything being a lyric and adding links to stuff on important words

if you like to make edits/art/some other type of original content feel free to add a link in your description

you can add links (again only on desktop) like this

MISC BLOG SETUP STUFF

if your likes/following are visible (especially if both are visible) people will go 🫵 twitter user 🫵

some people show their most popular posts, some people don’t, to my knowledge there’s no judgement either way

most people have a tag they use for personal posts (“name speaks/rambles/etc” is probably the most common) but you don’t have to if you don’t want to

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER PEOPLE

follow for follows are not super common. it happens (if you follow someone people it’s common for that person to check out your blog but not in any way a guarantee) but for the most part being tumblr mutuals is a higher bar to clear than “oh this person follows me.” if you want to get peoples attention i would recommend this method, but even then the person can chose not to follow you without it being an insult to your character

blocking is more common than it is on twitter and not an insult to your character. repeatedly starting shit with other people will cause your followers to block you. if you want to start a fight with someone just block them instead

feel free to reblog old posts and spam like

while the mechanics and terminology are very similar, in terms of the way they are perceived a tumblr like is not equal to a twitter like, a tumblr reply is not equal to a twitter reply, and a reblog is not equivalent to retweet

likes are generally utilized as a little hello or bookmarks

reblogs are closer to twitter likes than anything else

replies have a fairly unique function in tumblr interactions but i think the closest way to describe it is like a semi-public dm to the op— chances are no one else is going to see it but the op (except if you replied through a reblog, then the reblogger will see it, but the reblogger will still likely read your reply as intended for the op)

if you have a comment put it in the tags. you know those old screenshots of tumblr posts that have a million “oh my god this is so funny”s breaking up the content of the post? that’s widely considered not only cringe but a bit rude now, please don't do that

if you like someone’s tags, reblog from them and say “prev tags”. every few weeks you’ll see someone from a different corner of tumblr say “prev tags is dead!” but on swiftie tumblr prev tags has never died and doesn’t show signs of dying in the near future

@-ing taylor in a post (edit: unless it’s a joke, @-ing taylor as a joke is very funny feel free to do that) will make people go 🫵 twitter user 🫵

The Set Up

— jake sim x fem!reader

wc: 3.2k+! (rip my fellow mobile users...and myself this is the most I've ever written??)

SPOTTED: a rare sighting of coco actually posting?! [REAL!]

Being in love with Park Jongseong was never in your plan. You hadn't meant to fall for him, but it happened and it happened fast. His charming smile and delicate demeanor had you swooning and just like that you'd fallen under his trance. There was just one problem. Park Jongseong was not in love with you, yet.

Jake's plan consisted of five very big and important parts. Oh yeah, another thing you hadn't counted on happening was Jake, Jay's best friend, to find out about your budding crush. He'd really stumbled on it by accident, catching you in the act of leaving his friend a letter confessing your love to him. Jake had then ridiculed you by saying, "If you want to catch his attention you can't do what every other girl does. You need to stand out," of course it discouraged you a bit but he quickly brought back up your spirits. "Luckily I'm here! Don't worry, I'll help you get him, but you have to follow my steps or it won't work, okay?" and when you'd nodded his smile grew tenfold.

STEP #1 – CATCH HIS EYE !

"Jake I really doubt he'll notice me from all the way over here," you stated, whining as the boy next to you focused on the game happening in front of him.

"Y/N he won't notice you from here but, he will notice me and once he takes a glance at you next to me, he'll be very curious." Smart plan but you’d never admit it to him.

"Well I guess that makes sense..." you mumbled turning your attention back to the game, Jay had just scored for your school's team.

Jake was right, after the game had came to an end Jay sought out his best friend, and immediately he'd stared you down as he stalked over to you two.

"Hey man, congrats on winning the game. I mean Sunghoon still looked way cooler than you but I guess you did okay," said Jake jokingly.

"Mhm yeah thanks, where did you sit? Didn't see you in the dugout."

"Oh! I sat with Y/N, we watched the game from over there. Oh yeah, Y/N! Come say hi, why are you so far from us?"

He beckoned you over with one hand, the other was placed on Jay's shoulder as he excitedly shouted your name. Taking slow paced steps towards the boys, you bowed and whispered a quick hello to them. Jake's eyes lingered on you for a bit longer than usual. This was the first time he noticed it.

STEP #2 – FLIRT WITH HIM IDIOT !

Jake claimed that after the night of Jay's baseball game, the one you'd attended, he wouldn't stop smiling and asking questions about you.

Now your mission was to flirt with him, not too hard but a few flirty comments here and there would easily help you move things along.

However, flirting with Jay proved to be a lot harder than you'd originally thought. Not only was he constantly surrounded by girls fawning over him, he was also never alone, often he could be found hanging around the other boys on his baseball team (Jake being one of them but he'd taken the semester off to focus on his studies, per his parents request). You'd hoped your professor would take a hint and pair you with Jay but with no luck he'd paired you with Jake.

Jake made your classes bearable and even a lot easier, he was naturally smart with a fun personality so classes were never a bore.

Jay watched the scene in front of him and nodded, finally understanding the situation.

STEP #3 – HANG WITH HIM ALONE ?

You'd become discouraged after step two didn't work out but Jake reassured you that you could easily redeem yourself and get the plan back on track. He had a plan, a plan that was so detailed, it couldn't be messed up. Or so he thought.

It started as any other weekend, you'd woken up to Jake pounding on your door, yelling that today was the day and to be excited. He stormed in the minute your opened the door and walked right up to your closet, quickly picking out an outfit and throwing it towards you.

"Jake will you please tell me why you just waltzed into my dorm room and rummaged my closet?"

"Yes but first get dressed, we’re on a tight schedule Y/N! Chop! Chop!" He shouted pushing you towards the bathroom to change.

"I have to admit, you have good style Jakey. Now can you tell me where you're dragging me off to?”

"Why yes I can Y/N. You see this is all part of my master plan, we are going to hang out at the mall. I invited Jay and when he gets there I'll pretend I got a call and say I need to go, inevitably leaving you two alone on a date!"

"Wait you're leaving me alone? With him?" you asked eyes wide with worry.

"Yes Y/N, a date doesn't consist of three people."He replied eyes rolling for his usual dramatic effect.

"Well not with that attitude it doesn't, and what if he knows what you're trying to do?"

"He won't. Now sit down, I told him to meet us at the food court."

Thirty full minutes had pasted and Jay was nowhere to be seen. Jake had called him three times already but to no avail he got sent straight to voice-mail.

"Maybe his phone die-" your tone was cut short as Jake's phone rang loudly, the caller ID depicting Jay's name. As Jake picked up he nodded following whatever was being said on the other line before sighing and hanging up.

"He can't make it, something about coach calling an emergency meeting for the team. So guess it'll just be us today."

"Wanna go to look at the fish down below?" you asked hoping to raise his spirits, and when a smile crawled back onto his face, you knew it'd worked.

Had you looked around just once you'd see that Jay sat a few tables away from you both, smiling as he got up to leave the mall, his plan was going smoothly.

STEP #4 – MINGLE WITH HIS FRIENDS !

Jake's plan hadn't succeeded since the first step and you'd started to get anxious, but more than anything, the silly crush you'd had on Jay was now faltering. With more unsuccessful attempts at getting his attention and even flirting with Jay the feelings you'd once claimed were love, had went and gone, but new ones had formed and it was slowly becoming more evident that it would be harder to accept them.

Jake could probably relate if he'd actually spoken to you recently, but the boy had been avoiding you ever since your accidental day alone at the mall. To recount, the day was spent laughing and smiling, no thoughts of Jay or Jake's silly plan to get you and his best friend together had crossed either of your minds. At the end of the night he walked you back to your dorm and securely held your hand the whole way. Neither of you cared really, just enjoying the time spent together.

Jake is walking towards the main buildings front office when he sees Jay pulling you along, laughing as you shout at him. His heart sinks and he realizes that maybe his silly little plan had actually worked and in turn Jay now had his eye on you.

Later that day both yourself and Jay walked into the cafe that held his other friends, some of whom you'd met before and a few you had not. With Park Sunghoon and Lee Heeseung being the only people you knew, you'd naturally drifted towards them, talking about god knows what until everyone showed up. Sunoo and Jungwon walked in first, having just gotten out of classes that both ran later than usual. Next to arrive was Riki, a high school senior who just so happened to smile his way into the college group of friends, and finally was Jake, but he wasn't alone. A hand was clutched in his, he'd introduced her as Lili. They had history of trees or something together, not that you cared much. He gushed about how smart she was as she hit his arm playfully begging for him to stop. You'd brought the cup of peach tea up to your lips to cover your scowl.

Jay watched from across the room with an amused smile. "Does he know that she's in love with him?" asked Heeseung quietly, he too watched as you'd rolled your eyes for the fifth time today.

"No I don't think so," he paused looking for the right words, "Jake was convinced she had a thing for me but it's pretty obvious to anyone who she likes."

"Jake's clueless, he'd miss a robbery even if it happen right in front of him," spoke Sunghoon.

"Maybe you should help him Jay," whispered an equally amused Heeseung before walking back to the group with his drink, Sunghoon following soon after.

STEP #5 – GET THE GUY !

It'd been two weeks (not including the week you tried but failed to get his attention) since Jake had last spoken to you. Funny how things work out, one minute you're enjoying a nice and "accidental" date and the next he had Lili hung around him twenty-four seven. Jay had reassured you multiple times that the two were not an item but it was hard to believe with the constant posts about one another that haunted your Instagram feed. Speaking of Jay, you'd made it clear to him that you didn't usher any school girl feelings for him anymore, but he knew that and when he finally got you to fess up about Jake's plan he laughed. As much as you denied liking Jake he could see right through you which lead to where you were now, stuck in your dorm with Jay babbling about how he now has a plan to get you and Jake together, funny how the two boys thought so alike.

The idea of a brand new plan did not sit right with you and you'd quickly shut it down. Jake had a “girlfriend” and you'd have to accept that.

"You're so boring Y/N, he is so in love with you. I saw it from the very first day that I laid eyes on you." Jay could honestly recount all the times he'd noticed Jake's lingering gaze on you, or the subtle touches he left, even the way he spoke to you was a sign of his true feelings.

"Jay he is not in love with me please shut up."

"Stop being stubborn and listen to me for a moment, okay?" He asked staring straight into your eyes. A satisfied hum left his lips when your mouth squeezed shut as he began.

"That day he introduced us, he didn't once look up from you. His eyes stayed on you as if you were the only person on that field. I don't know how to describe it but he just looked so smitten, I don't even think he knew it at the time."

"Jay that proves nothing, so what if he looked at me."

"Let me finish woman! I tested the theory out myself that night. I kept asking questions about you, and not for me, but for him. Y/N he knows how you like your eggs in the morning," he paused looking towards you.

"I don't like eggs."

"EXACTLY! Why the fuck does he know that? Every time I asked a question about you, he was able to answer. He literally knew so much, it was kind of concerning. Aside from that, he doesn't shut up about you, like ever. It's always Y/N this and Y/N that. No offense but I don't care if you hate milk and prefer dry cereal."

A million thoughts ran through your mind as Jay continued, "Does he really?" and "So why did he continue with the set up?" were the two most popular.

"Y/N, what happened on the day I canceled? What happened after the two of you went down to see the fish?"

Shock filled you, he was there, he had set you up.

"We spent the day together, then after he held my hand, and walked me home."

"SEE HE DOES LIKE YOU IDIOT! WHY WOULDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT HAPPENED? I'VE BEEN MAKING A FOOL OF MYSELF TRYING TO CONVINCE YOU," he shouted jumping up from the floor and pointing an accusing finger at you.

"He was just being nice Jay, it's common courtesy to walk someone home when it's late at night."

"No he was not and I'll prove it to you! Watch." Jay pulled his phone from his back pocket quickly dialing Jake's numbers. After three rings he picked up, muttering a small hello to Jay.

"Jake I'm gonna do it, but I need your help." Confusion spread across your face as he spoke in hushed whispers.

"Yes this Friday," his voice grew louder as he faced you, "yes Jake, this Friday, as in tommorrow, I'm going to ask Y/N to be my girlfriend."

Silence filled Jake's side of the line, he stood frozen. He was too late.

As Jay hung up his smile grew sheepish. "Jay what the hell do you mean you're going to ask me to be your girlfriend. I thought we established that I like Jake, as in your best friend.”

“3...2...1!”

Your phones text tone sounded just as Jay concluded his countdown and a single message popped into your notifications:

Jake: Can we meet at the mall? Have to talk to you about something before tomorrow. Please?

Jay’s face held a smirk that screamed, “I told you so.”

STEP #6 – WELL, KISS HIM !

Jake Sim is great at many things, he's a star athlete, top of his class, an amazing barista on the weekend, and so much more but what he isn’t so great at is expressing how he truly feels when under pressure, and that's exactly why he's had you sitting in front of him for about an hour now just babbling about plain nonsense that even he's annoyed with.

“Jake, is there a reason you asked me to meet you after avoiding me for weeks or can I go? Jay and I have plans.”

His faces falls momentarily but he's quick to mask the hurt, “Are you guys a thing now?”

He knows asking this question can only hurt him, Jay was pretty clear on the phone about where you two stood or where you will stand tomorrow. Even he himself isn’t too sure why he's called you here on a random thursday night but hearing what Jay planned to do had sent him spiraling.

“Why does it matter to you? Wasn't getting us together your whole idea in the first place?” You'd never meant to sound so harsh but having been ignored by him for weeks on end only to see how easy it was for him to contact you felt upsetting, betraying even in a way.

“What if that's not what I want anymore.” The sentence comes out confidently and loud enough for not only you to hear but Jay included, who was hidden away not too far from you both after insisting he come with.

Jake isn't sure how it happens but the next moment he remembers is feeling your lips crash onto his, the feeling warm and almost familiar and as you two pull part you whisper the words, “That's all I wanted to hear idiot.”

EPILOGUE: THE SET UP !

“Dude are you ready to go? If we miss the last game because you're too busy making out with Y/N, I’ll actually kill you both,” shouted an annoyed Jay through his roommates closed door.

A soft giggled escaped your lips as you fixed his uniform, “We should get going before he comes in here and beats you up, it’d be pretty sad to have a black eye for your last game of the season babe.”

In the end both Jay and Jake revealed their not so subtle plans to one another, both laughing at just how far they'd go to help the other find happiness.

Although Jake’s plan hadn't reached its initial ending he was happy with its results nonetheless. Jake often secretly thanked Jay for forgetting his baseball glove back then in his locker so many months ago, though at the time he had cursed at him in his head a few times, if Jay hadn’t been so forgetful he would have never caught you leaving a love letter to his best friend which is what initially started your plan together, and that plan had just so happen to start the beginning of his long happy life, with you by his side forever.

at this point I'm tempted to predict a future schism between mobile and desktop internet users, even more so then there is now. It used to be that there were the internet-savvy people and the non-internet-savvy people, where "non-internet-savvy" meant "doesn't know how to do anything except send e-mail at best".

These days we exist in a delightful sea of many many people existing and exchanging ideas on the internet, but more and more I see that things designed for mobile use are very much designed to make the user think as little as possible and consume as much as possible, all the classic things they said about TV numbing your brain etc etc in the pre-internet days. Basic internet skills like browser extensions, privacy controls, ad blockers, and knowing when a company's "sorry, you have to do xyz to use our site!" is unnecessary bullshit designed to make you their product, are falling by the wayside, with younger people with no computer simply not having access to that knowledge unless they explicitly go diving for it

It's pretty easy at this point to foresee a possible future that cycles back around to the "mainstream uncritical TV-watching consumers" versus "weird squirrelly computer nerds" era of the turn of the millennium, when knowing how to add animated gifs to your Geocities was rare technical knowledge and having a home computer was something only those who were kind of nerdy did. So many websites are redesigning themselves now to be the most compatible for mobile use, because that's where the bulk of users are and therefore the profits, with several websites I've used in the past (RIP DoInk) going fully app-only and becoming unusable on desktop. I'm seeing my first full-production music videos produced in vertical format, looking absurd on anything other than a phone screen. YouTube now literally has two faces: Shorts for mobile users and "classic" youtube (which also throws Shorts at you because those get more views and more profit). Sites geared to app-based use overwhelmingly censor adult content more than browser-based (in my experience), thanks in part to Apple's app store approval policies and iron grip on what you can install on your own iOS device, which also excludes all the people who want to quietly get their freak on.

Perhaps over the next decade this polarization might continue into a central hub of mainstream, corporate-controlled mobile-oriented sites that provide the main sources of knowledge and entertainment (again, we've gone back to TV), and some secondary, more "underground" hubs where the nerds and the freaks and the weirdos hang out. I mean it's already like that right now but as a certified nerd freak and weirdo who has gotten pushed away from mobile-oriented spaces it's interesting to imagine it more extreme, what the internet cultural tapestry might become, further along this path

Hello I really like your comics. Especially how you draw the characters and the backgrounds.

I do have a question, are there any recommendations for art softwares for ipads/mobile?

If you're learning how to do digital art, then Procreate is a great tool. Pros: it's very simple and user friendly which makes it easy to learn as a beginner, and it only costs like $10-$15 upfront; Cons: it's a little too simple for those who want to do anything more complicated than sketches and paintings, so if you're looking to make comics or work with more advanced tools, it won't be as helpful there.

That said, if you already have digital art experience and are looking to switch to mobile, Clip Studio's mobile app is pretty good, it's what I've been using since my main drawing tablet for my PC died (RIP). Pros: it has way more versatility for experienced digital arts or people who want to learn more advanced tools like vector layers, perspective rulers, panel masking, etc.; Cons: it's a monthly cost of $10-$15/month, however they regularly introduce new features to incentivize people to pay for that monthly cost, and it's got a bit of a steeper learning curve if you use their Studio mode which comes with all of the features (vs. Simple mode which is more like Procreate).

There are also free tools like Sketchbook and Medibang Paint that you could try before committing to paying for software. I've hesrd Medibang is great especially for the comic drawing experience. That said, I haven't used those softwares so I don't have any opinions about how they work beyond what others have told me, so all I can recommend is for you to try them yourself and see what works!

Hello, I wanted to post this so people can find this in nearly every location possible, please share. (...I know this may seem like a very odd post to y'all hypno lullaby fans but I helped find this so I'm sorry for the out of place post LOL)

This was previously lost media in the Halley Labs/Lapfox Trax/Vulpvibe community. The owner of the CD reached out to me and uploaded it, and I took the time to organize it, upload it, & put it on the wiki as a download.

So here it is, the 15 years in the waiting, Omicron Complex CD rip in WAV & MP3.

"This is the CD rip of Omicron Complex. This CD was originally bought on Cafepress for about $10 in June of 2008.

--> I bought Omicron Complex, I Prefer The Sky, and an "Eat Me" shirt all from Cafepress. I still own all of them. All of the above items were bought with my first paycheck ever totalling to about $35. It was the whole 2 week paycheck and I spent it on Vulpvibe Records. These items are VERY sentimental. I still remember the first time listening to all of the tracks in my mom's truck going to a fair. Mom was not a fan. (lol)

I initially was going to release everything in 2009 when I uploaded the initial videos, but I had multiple people requesting I download X and Y software for higher and higher quality rips. It just seemed they were not in it for the music.

I became an evil villain for years. Way too many years.

Recently I found an arcade dumper that had a piece of hardware I used to own. They are refusing to dump it. Saying they will dump it in 10 years to never. It put me into perspective that this is just me with this CD. I didn't create this music, but I did pay for it and don't have to share it. Similar to this arcade dumper. However, there are furries that like Vulpvibe and later eras as much as I did that were out of the loop or too young to buy this music. Why punish them for liking this great music?

Renard shaped my childhood. Introducing me to all of the music in Mungyodance, the music making process, using samples, identifying samples... (I recommended the ShaLaLa Vengaboy sample in "Go to the Party". Staying up to 3a-4a on Youtube pays off. <3). Mungyodance 1&2 was in an ITG2 cabinet I went to as a kid and introduced me to Fur Affinity & FURRIES through Renard's FA account. Literally Renard completely changed my life. I am still a HUGE fan of Mungyodance 15 years after its death.

Keeping this CD "lost" meant that people were still interested in the era that meant so much in my life. It's really immature of me to think that way, but here we are 15 years after release.

I apologize to everyone including Renard/Emma. Here is the release. Better late than never.

Just promise me that you will remember the old stuff and play a game of Mungyodance.

Howl Pendragon, Touya Todoroki, Natsuo Todoroki, Toshinori Yagi

I'm writing this at 4:21 in the morning i haven't slept in 34 hours

Here are some headcanons i have for some of my favorite fictional men.

Howl Pendragon

He really enjoys peaches even if they aren't native to Wales. He will have them imported for both himself and for any lady he has his eyes on.

He knows how to sing, however he doesn't believe he can equate his singing skills with his physical features so he doesn't focus on that

He is incredibly stingy with skincare routines. He invented skincare. I mean he takes care of every pimple, clears every pore, clears dead skin and makes his face smooth as a child

He is around 25 but as a child he was mistaken to be two years older and skipped two birthdays by accident.

He loves to read confusing poems and daydream about who they were written for, if written for anyone.

Touya Todoroki/Dabi

He hates all seafood not just fish. everything but scallops, which can be hard to get

he suffers from old man cramps™ in his knees and back, resulting in him debating to get a walker or mobility aid

hes too proud to admit when he is injured, and fell into the stigma that a, men dont cry and b, if men cry it means that they are weak and undeserving of praise.

He eats mostly with his canines. His front teeth are too sensitive for him to enjoy eating with again, so stabbing, tearing and ripping are done by his canines and molars.

He is actually very pleasant to be around when he isnt spewing about being a failed project of endeavor and wishing to hold the ashes of his father's eyeball or some gross body part

Natsuo Todoroki

He is a sweet guy, and helps with homework more often than not.

He prefers his older sibling Fuyumi over anyone else in the family, and sees her as a confidant, not just a sister or another person but a confidant.

He plays rugby in the summer and football and swim during the winter, on top of that maintaining a good GPA and family relations. Well maybe not good family relations.

He suffers from very poor anger management issues however he went to therapy after Touya's "death" and found ways to cope with it and heal better.

He can easily eat himself into a food coma after thousands of calories are simply swallowed like they're nothing.

Toshinori Yagi:

Give him a gift and he will cry. the man is so sensitive in his older years

He really enjoys when people call him toshinori because it measn they dont value him just for all might or his strength, but as a person

He visits memorials of people he feels he failed or has lost over the years and it gives him comfort that they arent in pain anymore. He looked for years to find the past users of One for All and he can spend hours at their graves to honor them

He cant cook. At all. When he was in america he learned how to grill a mean steak but besides that he cant cook much of anything and along with his stomach being well gone, he usually has smoothies and lighter foods.

He WILL go on tangents about america if you bring that up. He loves teaching his students (sometimes false) things about his experience in america. sometimes he switches over to english when hes recounting things he did and his students have to remind him they dont speak it as well as he does, nor do they know the old man slang he uses in his english

posting publicly in case anyone else can think of other advice, please comment! ocs have never really been my thing so i don't really have experience with them, it's totally possible i'll miss something.

the only things you really *need* per se are a rules page and an about page.

on your rules (or guidelines or whatever you want to call it) you'd write all the "terms of engagement" you can think of. topics you will not write, your preference in writing style or length, if there are any fandoms or characters you won't write with, whether your blog may feature nsfw content, your alias and age range, etc.

on your about page you'd list all of your character's information. name, age, place of birth, personality, stats, physical description, etc. you can format this however you want, there are tons of templates floating around tumblr.

since you'll be writing an original character i would also include a biography and universe description if possible so people can get an idea of what the universe your character's from is like.

the unnecessary extras of rp blogs would be anything aesthetic. icons, graphics for promos, post dividers and the like. those are for fun and but you don't really need them and most people don't care if you're iconless tbh! as long as you use clean formatting (not eye frying colors, not multiple spaces) you're good!

an extra that i would consider technically a need is xkit rewritten. you'll need it to trim posts, but if you're a tumblr user in 2023 you likely already know xkit is necessary to make this site functional rip.

i highly recommend using carrd to make your pages since tumblr pages on your blog are not accessible from mobile! google docs has some issues with not displaying properly on mobile as well, but google sites does work and it's also free. carrd is the option that works best on mobile so far though, and you can use it for free.

lastly, i'd look around indie rp tags and check people's blogs for inspo and reference! you'll organically get the hang of how people generally arrange their blogs if you look at them. you'll see that generally people make a pinned post with a description of their blog, a link to their carrd / pages, etc. if you click on those pages you can see how they format their about and rules. you don't have to copy everything everyone does though. if you don't vibe with the general aesthetic people use or how they format certain things that's alright, you get to pick and choose!

ultimately the best part about indie roleplay blogs is that you're independent from everyone and everything else so you get to set up your account however you want :)

In all seriousness, this is concerning. In particular this passage:

"HB3008 details anyone who wants to access a pornographic site deemed as harmful to minors will have to submit a digitized identification card, a government issued identification card, or “any commercially reasonable method that relies on public or private transactional data to verify whether the person attempting to access the information is 18 years of age or older.”

“Transactional data” refers to a third party vendor that verifies a user’s age via their mortgage, educational, employment, or other records."

I work in mobile app development. When I hear third party vendor, I hear "company that wants your data to sell and make money". Imagine information about your mortgage, education, your job, and other stuff being given to companies that want to spam you with shit. And that's not even considering if two and two are put together and they find out what kind of pr0n you're into.

And another thing: what's stopping adult child abusers from showing kids adult content? What's stopping a dumb kid from taking their parent's id card and use that to verify when no one is looking? The only thing this prevents is less tech savvy kids from getting to those sites. For a bill who's purpose is to protect kids from pr0n-to-sexual abuse-pipeline, it does a shit job at it.

this thought has been niggling in the back of my head ever since dazai called akutagawa too slow to teach that time in the dungeon (which wasn't really true he was just manipulating aku) and only became more prominent when i read the failed sskk-vs-fukuchi fight but for a fighting(?) shonen(?) manga protagonists/main duo atsushi and akutagawa's talents (beside their innate abilities) are pretty....mid?

obviously i dont think theyre stupid but even if we dont consider the OP protags usually seen in the genre they still come up quite average in-universe? for one they are clearly not the brightest bulbs around. akutagawa's mostly been the brains behind sskk and he's pulled some pretty good saves like waking the tiger in 55 minutes or assisting atsushi throughout the fight against goncharov, so he's capable and can further improve (provided vampirism or death didnt turn his brain to mush rip) but theres no way its in the same dimension of the class of people considered the "brain" of the series (dazai, fyodor, ranpo, even mori). it couldve been somewhat better if their intellect complemented each other (for example ranpo+dazai whose brains become 1+1>2 together) but sskk are pretty similar in how they think? i dont think theres anything akutagawa could come up with and atsushi couldnt (well, i do have to give it to atsushi for the ability to consider strategic retreat, something aku is incapable of).

then there are their abilities & combat capabilities. the abilities are strong, no doubt, and even stronger together (sskk 1+1>2 goes here) but considering how strong the abilities are capable of, their combat power is just ok? and its quite not a problem of experience either because like how dazai and friends above reign over intellect we have seen other ability users with genius control over their abilities at very young, most notably oda and chuuya (no corruption) for me. oda's ability seemed like a cheat because he can see the future, but its really just 5-6 seconds so its still on him to react fast enough. from the day i met dazai we actually found out by 14 years old, he's killed so many people they thought it was an entire organisation behind the assassinations, but nah it was just oda alone. and even when his ability was canceled out in the fight with gide, he was still comparable in speed and marksmanship, and given how gide fought in the great war 10 years before the event of dark era, the man has years of experience over oda. similarly, its chuuya's ability to combine his gravitation manipulation to enhance his fighting with insane accuracy (generating the right momentum for his hits, gathering dust as leverage for midair mobility, etc.) that makes the gravitation control a lot more deadly. and hes done all this by the time we first saw him at 15, where "the sheep" aka basically chuuya alone has enough firepower to compete with port mafia. like oda, chuuya also fought with someone with the same ability and at 16, under normal power condition his hand-to-hand combat skills are comparable to verlaine, a government-trained spy and assassin, or even better as he managed to wound him (of course verlaine still won in the end because his dragon aka energy output is bigger than chuuya's dragon lmao). in comparison to them, sskk's track record doesnt seem as impressive? of course they have their limitations like how atsushi has only been at this for a year at most or akutagawa is simply too frail due to his illness (dazai's physical skills are below average for the mafia per chuuya's assessment and well, we all know how dazai-vs-akutagawa goes). but sskk actually had training and mentors and so far they look to be on an ordinary(?) learning curve, while oda and chuuya seemed to be just genius??

of course, as protagonists we love sskk for their drive and personal growth that us readers are privy to but kinda like how teruko told sigma, in a fight to the death its not like the geniuses like the ones above will have less drive to survive. anyway, its not really a complaint because the appeal of bsd has always been the characters and themes to me, not so much the powerscaling (even if it has been about fighting, having an "average" protag is perfectly fine). i just think its pretty interesting to take this into perspective considering if everyone manages to survive the doa arc future enemies are probably gonna get stronger, and i wonder how will we go from here, assuming asagiri still wants to give sskk the "main fight" of the arc (though who knows with the madlad anymore lmao)

(i wouldnt say no to more ability group fight like how the mafia ganged up on verlaine in stormbringer though that's be rad as hell)
