#RP Advice and Notes

hi!!! i just wanted to say i really love all of your MASKS stuff. i'm something of a newbie when it comes to the TTRPG community, but MASKS seems to be not very well-known and i think that's a real shame. i'm a huge fan of old-school superhero-adjacent stuff, especially the silver- and bronze-age ones!
by the way, i was wondering if you'd be willing to share some tips for a first-time GM? you don't have to if you'd rather not! i just figured i'd try asking since i was planning on GMing a MASKS campaign for some of my friends later, but despite my decade's worth of roleplaying experience i've never been in a TTRPG campaign nor a GM (or similar) role before
Thank you so much!! I was just lamenting about how I felt bad for the MASKS tag because it is now flooded with all my npc nonsense hahah so this is really nice to hear.
It's awesome you're planning on running a MASKS game for your friends!! There is an indispensable post on twitter I saw that has a LOT of great tips for running MASKS that I recommend checking out. But for my own personal tips that are just me things, here's what I got. Sorry it's gonna be extremely long-winded, it may take a few months to read through it.
(Note: I am also hugely into RP and probably put more into it than what is necessary, especially with MASKS which is meant to be able to be played out of the box. It was definitely not played out of the box in our case because I require a lot out of myself and everyone else to feel good about running something. if anyone else wants to continue seeing me as a normal human being please don't click the Keep Reading)
Since you're running it, make the world interesting to you. If the world runs around themes you're personally interested in then you'll have a much easier time coming up with answers on the fly. For me, themes I'm interested in that lend themselves well to a superhero world: money, power, family, celebrity, media, the 24 hour news cycle and the desensitization of violence. Because I'm interested in this stuff anyway, wrapping a world around them makes it much simpler for me to figure out how the world ticks and thus how the characters fit into it and how the world reacts to them, and I am DESPERATE to find out how the characters react to all the questions and expectations the world is imposing upon them.
Make sure your players have a good grasp of the tone of story so they can make characters that gel well within it. For me the tone is a lil more adult because I'm not personally into younger morality tale stories in tone, it's pretty grounded, and I think comedy and tragedy work hand in hand so I lean into them.
Talk. A lot. Talk about the characters, talk about the world. MASKS is fun because it's a LOT of talking and figuring out the narrative together. It's not a lot of crunchy mechanics, it's all around seeing how the characters react to the world narratively, all hurt and comfort and emotions which (for me) requires people to have a good grasp on their characters and the world. I like to give my players "homework" where I ask them a question involving their characters in some way like "what hero did your character look up to as a child?" so they get to come up with past heroes, or "How does your character feel about _____?" etc etc. The only fans are gonna be your table and fans love to talk so be the biggest fans of the PCs!!
Figure out your framing. I know in MASKS they suggest framing it like a comic book, and basically talking about the frames on screen. For me, because I'm more into movies and tv than comics, I frame it like that. So I have an active "camera" in play during sessions and will ask things like "would anyone like to grab the camera?" to encourage the players to put the character into a scene or "what does the audience see as the camera focuses in on your character in this emotional moment?" There is a LOT of playing up to the camera and framing the sessions as episodes of a show, so it's like, okay, you have several options but what is going to be interesting for the audience to see? I find this encourages the players to have their characters take bigger swings and feel comfortable letting us into how their character is feeling because it all looks GREAT on camera. The camera loves it. The PCs are the story after all.
Because I frame it a show, I also like to play individual ending songs over the "credits" at the end of each episode. So I asked my players to make playlists for their characters so if I feel an episode had a lot of emotional focus on one character in particular, I can play one of their songs at the end of the episode! I also made a general MASKS playlist with a bunch of songs from the era we set it in (2004) to pull from. It's a fun little addition that I really enjoy and that I hope makes it all feel more special.
The Dino Donut Effect: create landmarks in your world. (OK THIS IS GONNA BE LONG BUT WORK WITH ME HERE) They don't have to be locations, more solid landmarks of the story that the characters can refer back to and lean on to make the world feel more "real." I call it the Dino Donut Effect because in our world the thing that made everything click into place was talking out the backstory of one of the PC's figuring out they had the power negation ability. We were talking one night trying to figure it out; we wanted the character to fall out of a building and be caught by a flying superhero and accidentally turn off their powers, so they toss the kid to another flying supe whose powers also get turned off. But we were like... holy shit what is the height of a building needed that can handle this much action in the air without them hitting the ground in 3 seconds. So after a long night of talking about terminal velocity and looking at Splat Calculators we figured out the height of the building, and we needed them to crash into something that wouldn't fuckin kill them. The first suggestion was a truck full of bananas. Nah. We landed on a giant balloon that could take the impact. And the balloon became a giant T-Rex holding a donut that was the mascot of the city's beloved decades old donut shop Dino Donut. And so we decided that one of the two flying supes grabbed onto the kid and the other and flew into the giant balloon to try and keep them all alive, which destroyed the balloon, which was a city institution, and there was a crowd of children there that day that saw their friend Dino Donut die. Killed by a superhero. The balloon deflated loudly so it sounded like Dino Donut was screaming in agony. All the kids were traumatized (screaming crying throwing up), the city was furious because everyone loved Dino Donut, it was constantly in the news cycle, and it ruined the career of the supe that "killed Dino Donut." AND THEN THEY REPLACED THE DINO DONUT BALLOON WITH A LAME "UPDATED DESIGN" DINO DONUT STATUE which everyone hates and people consider to be a memorial to the old Dino Donut. ANYWAY, the Dino Donut effect is that now all the PCs have one single incident to refer back to that they all have feelings about. A couple of them were there that day and heard Dino Donut scream, one is now the protege of the disgraced superhero that killed Dino Donut so she feels uncomfortable talking about it, there's the kid that was saved that day but was sworn to secrecy by the supe so no one would find out about his power negation ability, and then there's the kid that wasn't there because she's an alien that just arrived to earth and now the kids have to explain the incident to her with all their varying opinions. Now the PCs' meeting spot is at a Dino Donut. Having this one solid incident that is both funny and kind of goes into the themes of the world has been an absolute treat. Creating "landmarks" like that in the world has done so much and now I'm like okay I'm gonna try to do this moving forward with any other thing I run.
anyway these are my extremely specific to me tips. my RP standards are kind of high which makes me a bit of a terror but also when the flowers bloom from it it feels GREAT. i'm not sure if this will help but hopefully there is something there that can be useful!
MASKS is fun and simple once you get the hang of it, though, so I'm sure whatever you do you and your players will have a lot of fun! especially if you're someone who is into RP which is the background I'm coming from too; MASKS is extremely narrative! i'll be looking in the tag for your game hehe

I just tested positive for COVID which has never happened to me before and I'm having a panic attack! What do I do, doc?!
Panicking will not bode well for you, first off. You gotta make sure you don't get your friends sick, so stay a ways away from them. It won't be so bad as long as you got your vaccinations. No playing any windful instruments. Take things on the easy side, you'll be better in no time.

anxious about attempting to interact off anon, may I ask for tips on what to and not to do? some kind of guidelines on how to bother without being A Bother, y'know?
Tumblr media
((Oh gosh, hi! That's always a rather nerve-wracking thing, I feel you! I still get nervous about interacting with people who I've been mutuals with for at least a year aslkdjfhadflkjah
I don't think I'm the best at giving this kind of advice, but I can try to offer things that worked for me?))
Tumblr media
((This is an interjection from Future Willow who realizes once again she does not know how to shut the fuck up. This got long. Oh my god I'm so sorry. I'm putting this under a cut LMFAO AYO????))
Tumblr media
((One of the biggest things to not do (and this is something I and several others have had rampant issues with from one person in particular) is assume a particular aspect of characterization of someone else's muse. I'm talking things like being hyperspecific with questions that lead to the impression that you're pushing your characterization of a certain muse onto the mun. Boldfaced assumptions are a big, big nono, especially with a fandom as wild and interpretive as Mega Man. Everyone has a different take on a character and this can range from a mild alteration to being completely and wholly AU in some cases, so respecting that is the most important thing.))
Tumblr media
((However, this also does segue rather nicely into the first and probably most important piece of advice I can give: ask the muns about their muses and world. Let them speak! I've found that it tends to work better, when approaching someone, to ask or encourage them to tell you about their muse first, rather than offering your own right off the bat. Now, I'm operating under the assumption that you're also a roleplayer, but if you're not, this still works! I haven't found a single person who doesn't want to share the worlds they've developed and the effort that has gone into their muses, extenuating circumstances aside. Give them an audience, and it makes it easier to figure out how you can best interact with their characters or bounce off of something they've said and find something that clicks! If you're nervous about sending an ask off anon, it's okay to request for the mun to answer you privately instead of publicly, or ask them if it's okay to DM them. Some muns (myself included) might have their DMs limited to mutuals only, but it never hurts to ask! If someone wanted to ask me something privately, I'd gladly change that setting so we could chat.))
Tumblr media
((Other things that help are if you're unsure how to start an interaction, maybe just send an emoji or question from an ask meme. A bunch of us reblog these from time to time. Those are simple ways to start an interaction, though I honestly have not found it to work the best for me. I prefer kicking down someone's metaphorical door and holding them at gunpoint to tell me about their muses LOL (but even then I get nervous with people I may not know as well so this is not foolproof and ABSOLUTELY not the best solution for everyone, oh lord). You could also identify yourself as a certain anon, give yourself a nickname. Like "bread anon" or something, idk. That usually helps the mun start to identify you, and with that brand of familiarity it becomes easier to build the courage to interact. Also!! Just!!! Complement the muns and their portrayals! Interact, even if it just means liking a post. Do keep in mind I suggest these as supplements to the first advice.))
Tumblr media
((That being said, it's also very important to read the room when you do muster up the courage to interact off anon. If a mun doesn't seem very interested or responds with "maybe" or "I'm not sure," and doesn't follow up with it, please respect that. The worst thing that a mun can say to you is no if you ask for an interaction, and often times I've found that "no" comes from just... not knowing someone else well enough or not having something to bounce off of. Remember that interactions are a two way street, which means that there has to be some form of equal investment. If there isn't, just chill, and don't be pushy. It'll be okay. A lot of muns are slow to warm up to people they're unfamiliar with, especially in this fandom.))
((Oh also read the rules. Please. Oh my god. Every mun has different comfort levels which means that knowing their boundaries is the most important thing of all. Read them twice. Three times if you have to. I am a hardass and am constantly checking blogs to make sure I haven't missed anything that's been changed or something because I have the memory of a goldfish sometimes, but that's just me. Also keep in mind that all of us are human too and we are simply dumbasses who like fictional characters a bit too much. I'm not exactly sure what kind of reputation I have here, but anyone who knows me on a more personal level will tell you that I just say the wildest shit and type in all caps frequently because I constantly yell and don't shut up LOL. We're not scary, so don't stress too much!!))
Tumblr media
((...Tbh I don't know if I answered your question properly because, as is my namesake on most platforms, I fucking Rambled. These are the things that just occurred to me off the top of my head, but I hope this helps regardless! Ultimately, be courteous, be kind, and be engaged, and things will likely be okay! Good luck, anon <3))

//ooc:Hey, a little psa-kinda thing.
So a few pkmn irl mods I know have been sent this ask.
Tumblr media
A little bit of clarification if you’ve gotten this in your inbox: you will not be autoflagged for spam by tagging your posts. You will be flagged for tagging a post about one thing with something unrelated. (Example: tagging a post exclusively about Danganronpa with Steven Universe.) Tagging rp posts is also important to make sure they are seen by your audience. You may have followers, but if you never tag your posts, they’ll see less of your posts, and those posts will be mixed in with everything on their dash. If you do tag your posts, they’ll be updated on your newer posts more often. In the clutter of the dashboard, you won’t see much rp. While scrolling a tag, it’s easier to keep updated on people’s blogs and what’s going on with them. Finally, shadowbanning on tumblr does not exist. It’s a myth. If I remember correctly this came from people coming from TikTok and Twitter, where shadowbanning does exist. So when their posts didn’t get notes, they said it was because they were shadowbanned, because they didn’t know any better. The idea of a tumblr shadowban spread unfortunately, and a lot of people think they’re banned because no one is liking their posts. It’s a common misconception.
This ask has been copy/pasted into several people’s inboxes. A few friends I have say it may be someone bored and trying to start trouble. My advice would be to not engage. Delete the ask, I would also recommend blocking the anon.
I think that’s all I have to say. Have a great day!!

the cockles masterlist, part 6
now split in SIX parts for link limit reasons
WARNING: this post glitches and crashes on mobile. it’s recommended you view this on your desktop, or at least on your mobile browser rather than the app. if my desktop theme is hard on your eyes, try an extension such as Just Read or Reader View to customize the layout and colors.
if you’re still having trouble viewing, or if you don’t want to have to switch between the five posts, here’s all of the links compiled into a google doc.
welcome to the cockles masterpost, a labor of love/insomniac hyperfixation.
i recently wrote this cockles manifesto, but after it got a lot of notes and i kept adding more links to it, i decided i should just go through my 8 years of archives and compile all the cockles posts in a much more accessible and navigable way. after everything with the series finale and destielgate, i figured we could use some happiness, and it turns out there are a lot of people who’ve never heard the cockles gospel.
important disclaimer: yes, i do think that jensen and misha have a private romantic/sexual relationship, but no i do not, in any way, think that they have ever cheated on their wives. we think they are polyamorous, which is a real and valid thing, and misha is openly poly. some people love more than one person, and that’s okay. their families are close and we love and support all of them.
second important disclaimer: despite the amount of innuendo below, this is not about fantasizing about two hot guys fucking. cockles is about the joy of witnessing two people who love each other and make each other happy and are disgustingly cute together. we’re not fetishizing, we’re just appreciating what they publicly share with us.
third important disclaimer: because some of y’all don’t know, the cardinal rule of cockles is that we don’t talk to cockles about cockles. DO NOT leave any comments on their social media accounts implying anything. not even green and blue hearts. they know that we know, but it’s on us not to make it weird. if we’re too obvious and say too much, they might start sharing less. don’t say anything.
for the sake of my sanity, these are in no particular order.

More Highlights From the SOLDIER Group Chat
• Every time someone makes a grammatical mistake and butchers the English language, Genesis sends a copy of the Rosetta stone.
• Kunsel changing the group chat name to The Bad Bitch Brigade™
• Angeal's phone and microphone are broken as hell, but he refused to buy a new phone while his still works, so all of his audio messages make him sound like a chipmunk.
• Roche accidentally sent his "most to least attractive" list to the group chat. Genesis was at the very bottom. Genesis didn't shut up for six hours.
• Every time Sephiroth is questioned about something uncomfortable he responds with a model-esque selfie.
Lazard: Sephiroth did you break the training room again???
Sephiroth: *sends a picture perfect selfie of himself basking in the sunlight*
• Zack using the group chat as his personal journal until Lazard told him to stop because "No one wants to hear about the sweet potato shaped like a penis you had for lunch, Zackary, nor do we want to hear about the life advice the drunkard in sector 7 keeps giving you"
• On a similar note, Genesis uses the group chat as his personal to-do list. Lazard also had him stop after the items started getting more and more concerning. The last straw was:
1) Buy fireworks
2) Buy enough duct tape to hold a grown man
3) Summon Sephiroth to the rooftop at midnight
• Director Lazard thought the "😂" emoji meant a sad crying face, so he sent "I regret to inform you all that Mrs. Helen Thompson from the finance office has passed away 😂 💀"
• The day Genesis changed the group chat name to "LOVELESS study club" and began sending his LOVELESS analysis. Everyone left the group chat immediately. Including Lazard.
• The morning everyone hurried to the group chat to see why there were 5K messages. It turns out Kunsel and Zack were RP-ing.
• Sephiroth not knowing that "I'm dying" means the person is laughing. He twice sent paramedics to Genesis's office.
• Angeal, the admin, getting drunk and changing everyone's screen names to something ridiculous.
Sephiroth, Genesis and Zack became Mommy Issues, Used To Eat Chalk When We Were Six, and Hedgehog On Crack.
• Upon figuring out how to change the group chat name, Sephiroth changed it to The Mystery Penis™ Is [Redacted] and then turned his phone off.
• Zack sending a joke picture of him and Kunsel holding hands. Kunsel has hairy fingers so Angeal immediately responds with "WHAT DID YOU DO TO AERITH?"
• Sephiroth learns he doesn't need to respond to every messages and can instead use the reaction feature. This leads to gems such as:
Sephiroth reacted to - Genesis: SEPHIROTH, YOU LIMP DICK, DID YOU TELL LAZARD THAT I STOLE THE POPCORN MACHINE IN THE BREAK ROOM???: 👍
• Angeal changing the group chat name to "Dr. Phil audition tapes"
• Roche selling a used hair dryer and advertising it on the group chat as "USED HAIR, GOOD CONDITION, $20 GIL FREE SHIPPING
• That of course is followed by a mass advertisment spam where everyone is trying to sell their used products. Genesis in particular gets removed from the group chat for "ASSORTED TOYS, NEVER USED, SOLD TO ADULTS ONLY, $ 50 GIL A PIECE + AUTOGRAPH
• Genesis being removed allows Zack to advertise "BOX OF RANDOM SHIT I STOLE FROM GENESIS'S APARTMENT"
• Cloud, an infantryman who's secretly been a part of the group this whole time, finally outs himself the day Reno is discovered to be hiding in the group chat undercover.
• He sent this image:

It probably is going to sound very contradictory, but I had to say it because your blog is the only place I can say it out loud.
I've been writing for years and I don't crave for popularity or attention for what I write. Too much attention whether it's good or bad makes me uncomfortable. Still I want my work to be recognized a little bit more because for all the hard work and tears that goes in the writing ends up being rewarded with a terribly lukewarm response, which is disheartening. I've always written for the smaller fandoms where you could count readers and writers on your fingers, but then I got into a big fandom, and it took me a long time to gather the courage to post something because the debate about the characters going ooc is too always a valid one. For my 10 chapter fic I only have 50 something kudos and a handful of comments, 3 of whom are my friends who read every chapter and kudo'd as guests. I know the stats shouldn't matter, but after investing myself into the story and the characters, getting negligible response is hurtful. I've even gotten some hate and rude comments from some people.
Now, I'm not the kind of person who feels insecure about their writing, so I don't think someone not reading my stories is because something is wrong with me or my work. But then I read other fics where writers added the note that this was the first fic in this fandom and they have more readers even on their one shots. The numbers even go to 200-400 kudos and many, many comments.
I don't know how to stop feeling this way or what to do to let go of these contradictory feelings where I neither want too much attention nor do I want my work to have almost zero readers in the fandom. But I'm quite shameless (determined?) so I'll still write what I am writing even if it's just one reader reading it. Even then, the lack of readership will still be hurtful at the end of the day, no matter what I tell myself.
*hugs* I get it. I've been there. I probably still am there, if I'm honest, except I rarely post anything in public spaces these days.
What you're feeling isn't unreasonable and it's not contradictory because what you're feeling isn't about popularity or even readership when it comes right down to it. It's not about numbers. It's about an acknowledgement of the effort that you've put in.
You've worked hard and you want that to be recognized. If you did that in the workplace, your boss or coworker would tell you you'd done a great job. If you did that at home, your family or roommate would thank you for the work you'd put into making that home look nice or making a meal to feed everyone.
In online spaces, however, the only way to get that recognition is through popularity. Either that, or through an established community. Right now, you have a few friends who you can rely on to read your work and respond to it. But right now, it also seems like that isn't enough in some way. Again, that's totally fair and understandable.
For me, that happened when I was putting more energy into my fic than I actually had available to me. I was working 60 hour weeks at two jobs and under a lot of personal stress, and fic was my escape so I wrote and posted a lot of it. But writing still takes effort, and it still takes time, and there's a huge emotional component to all of the work you put in, and when your time and your energy are low and your emotions are already a bit fraught... When you're pouring out of a nearly empty cup, you really need someone to come by with a refill.
I don't really have much in the way of advice here. What I did was stop posting publicly and just start writing with my bestie in a private RP discord server. That's not a solution that's going to work for everyone. What I will say is, figure out what it is that you need and then figure out a way to get it. Whether you can get it online, whether you can get it on AO3 is going to be up to you.

Hi (I almost never use tumblr so lmk if I’m doing smth wrong!!) I’ve read a few of your Hazbin Hotel fics on AO3 and I just have to ask, how do you manage to post things so quickly?! I’m trying to start my own Hazbin hotel fic and I’m so fixated on getting their characterization correct that it’s taking me like 3X longer than normal to write lol!! If you have any advice or tips that would be amazing but of course, no pressure. I was just so curious. You’re very talented!!
Definitely not doing anything wrong! :D I wish I had a better answer for you, but the honest truth is that it's a combination of me having a lot of writing experience AND that I just had a fuckton of free time the past four weeks. It's kinda funny that you sent this ask now, because I just started a rotation for school that is going to consume very literally like 90% of my waking life on the days I have shifts for about three weeks, so you're about to watch me write BARELY ANYTHING AT ALL, hahaha.
That said, I relate to you very aggressively on the matter of worrying about characterization. That was the number one thing stopping me from writing fanfic for years and a lot of how I got over it was practicing characterization in OC RPs where I had to work with various characters but didn't have to be so afraid of missing something and getting them wrong because they were my characters so I already knew everything about them.
I think for Hazbin Hotel in particular, a lot of how identifiable and zany the characters are comes from their dialogue and their physicality, so personally I've frequently been rewatching little bits of the show to take point on how the characters genuinely talk and act! For Alastor, for example, I actually frequently have to un-fancy his dialogue while I'm writing by referencing canon conversations he's had because it's so easy to code switch into making him as prim as his general vibe conveys when in reality he actually does not talk like that. For Charlie and Lucifer, a lot of their vibe comes from the lack of smoothness in their speech - they stutter, hem, haw, backpedal, etc. For Angel, I think the way he poses himself and when he chooses to make sex jokes and touch people (or respect their space!) says a lot as well.
Practice makes this a LOT easier, but for my very first fic, I ended up taking a lot of notes on what I felt like captured the vibes of a character! I don't really do this anymore, but it was very helpful initially for giving me an understanding of what goes into my perception of any particular characterization.

We're in a rough fuckin' place when the chillest guy in your party very gently suggests "hey um we have evidence that some of these entities are good and have done good and are necessary for the survival of the world so maybe it's not great if all of them are completely wiped out" and then spends ten minutes getting yelled at for... being insensitive? I don't... I don't know what to call that.
(And then a whole bunch of doubling down in what feel like kind of confused readings of recent events and I can't tell if this is "we were stressed out and didn't take amazing notes about this part" or "my character knows shit about shit and has gone out of their way to avoid learning and I'm leaning into that for the sake of the RP," but it's genuinely giving me a headache. My kingdom for a The Calamity and The Divine Gate for Dummies to fling at these people's heads. (Fuck I miss Caduceus.))
But here's the key part:
They asked the Dusk Maven cleric "how do we turn the tide" and they said "faith." I don't think that was spiritual counsel. I think it was practical advice. Support the gods. Materially. I don't think the party has worked it out yet, but Ludinus's propaganda campaign is more than just swaying people away from interfering in his plans. It's encouraging people to discard their focus of friendly attention on the gods. It's literally an attempt at cutting off the source of their power, weakening them against ongoing attacks. THAT'S A PROBLEM.
As is what Orym, Fearne and Chetney saw in their vision. I've been saying "please stop arguing about nothing, focus on stopping Ludinus," but I think I was wrong. I think they need to get their shit together immediately. I've rarely seen Matt throw so clear a portent at the party: "Here's a thing that's happening, and where, and it's fucking bad. You should do something about it. You, yes, you, heroes of the story - and who would know better than the Matron of Ravens who the heroes would be?? - who walked right into my temple where I could hear you."
The moment they walked in. The moment they asked, like she'd just been waiting for them to get in range. "This being screaming in captured agony is the lynchpin letting this continue. GO GET MY BOY."
Here's the thing: I don't think that the gods can usually hear anyone. I think that if you're not already a cleric or a paladin or otherwise connected to them, or standing in their house, they can't see or hear you. And I think that everybody walking around saying they prayed once and got no answer so who cares if they all die are basing their misdirected resentment after spending all that angst calling a wrong number.

19. A minior falls from the sky and lands right in front of you.
20. [Generic] Have a battle!

So um how do you write a script exactly? I've been wanting to do it for a while but I don't know where to start or how.
What a great question! So a bit of backstory into my scripting journey. All of my audios pre-pandemi were usually freestyled. That included ASMR rps, hypnosis, you name it, I didn't script it. I actually found it harder to script than I did to just turn on a microphone and say words.
So, for me this has been a very new experience and now I script 90% of what I am currently making. I will say this is not for everyone and as a content creator you should embrace the creative method that works for you and not force yourself to do it exactly as someone else does.
Okay so how do I write? It starts with an idea. Sometimes this is based on erotica, soemthing someone says, art, stories, scenes I have played. It can come from anywhere for me and it's very sporadic and random. The second I get a good idea I write it down. Right now I have a million google docs on a spreadsheet and when I have that initial thought, I put the title down and bullet point any ideas for that script I have. This also means when I come back to it I already have a few guides to where it is going.
Bullet pointed notes are important to me because it tells me a little map of where this is going and I find my script are better if I have planned even a tiny bit compared to not at all.
Then I put on music and I try and get into the mindset of the character. I think about who they are, what they are feeling and what is this all about? What's the goal for this audio and what story are we trying to tell. This is where I just write and write and I try not to get in my own head about what is said, especially in the draft it doesn't matter a whole bunch.
The most important step, I read it out loud to myself or to my wife or literally anyone who will listen. This is crucial for me as it gives me the "mouth feel" of the words. If I stumble too much over certain parts they get changed. This is also important to see the layout of the script and see if the "flow" works. (The flow is the story beats of the audio, do they jump around too much? Does it skip time from one section to the other? Does it actually make sense for this to happen or that to be said?). I try not to over proof scripts. I want them to feel natural and like a little stream of consciousness. Because I used to do acting, I learned from experience you should always treat the words as "this is the first time I'm saying this" so being less rehearsed works for me so the least I can fuss over the script the better but that might not work for everyone.
As creatives we have a tendacy to overthink and overrefine work until it's "perfect" or "just right" but trust me when I say, don't. Back away from work when you need to and sometimes leave in the little mistakes. I have found over the years sometimes my mistakes are the parts that make the audios feel more special and real for people.
My most important advice for people wanting to try their hand at writing scripts is just do it. The first ones won't be good, but as you practice you will get better at it with experience. Take on constructive feedback and make sure you self reflect on it and not take it personally if you can.
Hope this helps!

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER BABY SÆUNN !? well…
this is an Elysium drama update!! drama in the loosest dumbest sense of the world. in which Sæ, if you’ll recall is Loki & Jesse’s daughter, is six years old currently and it’s taken us this long to figure out what her deal is. But finally!! AT LONG LAST….
Just like any of Loki’s children, It turns out her “deal” is just…. super extremely weird!!! For literally no reason at all, Sæ has revealed at last that she was born with the innate ability to turn into a gigantic squid monster 💙 duh…. What else
SO BEHOLD….. THE KRAKEN🦑🐙🦑🐙
…yeah, I don’t know either lmfaoooo. Jesse certainly doesn’t, and Loki’s just. rolling with this par for the course. You see Loki’s biological nightmare labyrinth of a reproductive system, mockery of the concept of genetics that it is, is constantly producing kids that are just. Well they’re just anything at all! Sæ’s special abilities may have come a little bit later as a surprise instead of since birth but it’s not a complete shock…. To Loki. (Thank you very much Jesse WAS indeed quite startled in the pool this week as his toddler daughter played “drown the fuck out of the toy boats” in the shape of a gigantic squid yknow just casual things hello WHATTTTT THE FUCK),
for those of you looking for oc rp advice here is how to characterize your OCs best of all!!
1. make a character be born.
Do nothing with them…. For six years.
bolt up in the middle of the night with a premonition where everything clicks.
uhhh… profit? hilarity and squids ensue
so without further ado! Here are, drawings, my personal concept art doodle worksheets and notes to self!! (That concept art page dialogue and etc is not canon just me doodling to myself before flinging this at fenixe herself lmao) and a final warmest welcome from Sæ’s own big brother, One of Loki’s elder sons (long since given a human shape), Jörmundgandr, who is of course famously a gigantic sea serpent in his truest form. aww… buddies :))))
i’ve been so absurdly excited about this for the past two/three weeks so pls enjoy squid baby finally getting her time to shine! yay Sæunn we love you!! welcome to the canon content world at long last!!!! do not tag this with the M word-;; Jesse belongs to @fenixethekid; Loki and Jör and NEWLY within my cast, Sæ, all belong to me!!!

Next gen meets mbgau rp Steven was happily whistling to himself as he was carrying the laundry basket upstairs. He liked to enjoy doing the simple, mundane, tasks of everyday life. It was something he valued and felt as a reprieve to his chaotic and suffering past. As Steven passed the bedroom of his eldest child Chase, his ears caught the sound of verbal grunting and shouting. Steven paused, a confused and worried expression now plastered on his once serene face. He stopped whistling to try and hear what was going on. "Stupid...dumb...no way...Augh! Son of a..." was all that Steven could make out. The man clearly recognized his son's voice. Steven knocked on the door gently but also with some firmness. "Chase is everything okay?" Steven called out. There was silence and faint sounds of shuffling before the door opened. Steven looked up to see his 18 year old son Chase who now was even taller than his father due to his alien genetics. Steven took mental note how puberty also affected his son's physical appearance somewhat as Chase now exhibited some of...Alex's features. Steven internally shook his head. He did not want to go on that emotional tangent right now. By the look on his son's face, Chase was clearly frustrated and upset about something, though due to his inherited Boxleitner stubbornness, it didn't seem like he was ready to come clean about his issues yet. "Oh hey dad. Uh yeah everything is fine just working on something." Chase admitted to his father. "Oh what are you working on?" Steven genuinely asked. He wondered if it had to do anything with Chase leaving for college soon. Once again, Chase seemed hesitant to give a straight answer, opting to scratch the back of his head. After a few moments of silence Chase finally opened up. "Well actually I might need some advice for something. Since I'm 18 now, I decided to change my hero name since Amazo Lad won't fit anymore. Could you help me with that dad?" Chase hesitantly asked his father. Steven beamed. "Of course I can help you son. I'm sure we can find a new hero name for you." Steven replied. He set down the laundry basket and followed his son to his desk. Steven could see there were a lot of pieces of paper tossed about. Some were crumpled, some had a lot of pencil scratches on them. Steven could tell his son had put a lot of effort into this name change. "So do you have any ideas for what you want to be called yet?" Steven asked Chase.
"that's the tough part...I don't want to let go of the name fully." Chase admits. It's was painful to guess why. Infact Steven knew exactly why. He placed a hand on his son's shoulder giving him a comforting squeeze. Steven thought for a moment. "Well we can think of something similar to Amazo..." Not Amazo guy. But Amazo something... He thought.
Something that was still connected to the roots whilst being it own thing.
He held his chin as he pondered. Walking deeper into the room.
"will tell you what we can take this and try pairing it up with some qualities about yourself. " He picked up a few of his son's crumpled up failed attempts to take a look over at them.

FGO Tabletop RPG Headcanons... 2!
Osakabehime openly denounces Dungeons and Dragons as a ‘normie TTRPG’ and runs a Pathfinder campaign instead. She’s now stretching herself thin between writing doujin and writing campaign notes and lore, and is very grateful that Servants don’t need sleep.
Jinako plays a socially awkward, dour Catfolk Magus named ‘Karnya’. Everybody knows the bit she’s doing, and nobody feels too pressed to stop her. Out of everyone involved, she knows the most about the mechanics aside from Osakabe, and tends to both ‘game the system’ whenever she can, but also tends to catch whenever a subtle plot hook is being presented, or lead the party to hidden threads to uncover Easter Eggs and secrets that were put into the worldbuilding.
Musashi made a Half-Orc Fighter who she constantly emphasizes is incredibly hot and buff. She actively makes it her goal to have her character flirt with any NPC they run across, and if that doesn’t work, then she immediately flips into wanting to fight them. This has led the party into more conflicts than necessary, but Musashi has also unwittingly ‘powergamed’ her character and has such lucky rolls to the point where she can almost single-handedly handle any combat situation on her own.
Kiyohime made a Human Cleric. Everyone instantly assumed that this was a stand-in for Anchin. Oddly enough, Kiyohime was found to be the best at handling certain RP situations due to her ability to pick up when Osakabehime was lying. This has led to Osakabehime trying out various ways to avoid getting called out, like using a lot more vague language, or just ducking behind her DM screen whenever she had to talk to Kiyo’s character.
After a lot of convincing, they managed to drag Tamamo into the party too. She just decided to go with a Kitsune Sorcerer, to the sound of slight complaint from her partymembers. Unsurprisingly, she’s the best at handling social interactions and served as a direct antithesis to Musashi’s style of playing, absolutely saving the group whenever things seemed like they were about to go wrong on a social level.
Tomoe ended up playing an Elven Monk. She tends to be the ‘voice of reason’ for most of the party, trying to make sure that they stay in line... unless there’s a cool item or piece of loot on the line, and then the rest of the group usually has to deal with her making some sort of absurd plan as to how to get it. It usually turns out okay. She also got a bunch of her own sourcebooks, and asks Osakabehime for advice regarding running her own games.
Beni-Enma tends to take over DMing sessions when Osakabehime is busy. Nobody’s actually told Osakabehime what happens during those sessions, but everyone seems incredibly relieved to see her sitting behind the screen again afterwards...
Tamacat also guest DMs. Every time Osakabehime gets back, she realizes that her players have some new, incredibly overpowered absurd magic item, and also were apparently playing a completely new system during the session.

@ 4234:
Not sure if they're checking for any responses, but mostly I wanted to agree. I haven't been in many fandoms, but even the main one I'm in now is alot more "cliquey" compared to years ago when RP and ask blogs were still really common. Now, alot of RP is mostly in Discord, and while I agree the messaging is easier/better than on Tumblr, Discord groups feel more closed off and gatekeepy at times. Plus my OTP is a NOTP for alot of people in the fandom, and I'm not interested in the juggernaut ships, so I get left out of alot of fandom events.
Tbh, I know it's not for everyone, but I've done better in a multi-fandom server I joined compared to any of the servers that are specific to the fandom I'm in. The one I joined I only did,cuz the admin is someone I already knew from my main fandom. I knew they were fair and kind, and they had modding experience in other servers, and it's been overall a great experience, until the server unfortunately died a while back, just due to the admin and other mods having irl stuff come up and take up all their time.
The only other server I've had a good time in was one that's specifically for fic writers in the fandom, which has events and showcases fics of people in the server, so it's alot of us pumping each other up and infodumping about our ideas and AUs.
Something I've had to learn to look out for when going into servers is in rules. Channels that state people's triggers and squicks is well-meaning, but unfortunately, in every server I've been in that had that turned into a wankfest sooner or later, usually with 2 or 3 BNFs in the server attacking each other or smaller creators in the server, using things in the trigger and squick list to harass or claim they were being harassed. Similar wankfests happened if the server has a list of topics and/or ships that aren't allowed to be talked about. Even if someone doesn't mention a forbidden topic/ship in the server, if they post stuff about it on Tumblr, Twitter, or ao3, they usually end up getting attacked in the server or just straight-up banned.
The servers I had/have good times had few if any forbidden tropes/topics/ships. If anything, it was only asked they only got mentioned in certain channels. The few times any wank came up, it got shut down within the same day.
Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for navigating fandom on Tumblr (and I avoid fandom spaces on Instagram and Twitter). I tend to just keep to myself on here, only ever talking to 2 or 3 people and not even all that much.
I hope you're okay, #4234. I'm in a small fandom, too, and I know that gossip runs rampant, so people end up hearing about callouts, even if they don't see the actual post. I've never been in that situation, so I don't know if this is good advice or not, but I'd suggest only sticking to talking to a few people for now. There will be some people who will refuse to interact with you, but even if others aren't actively reaching out, there are others who don't believe the callout, whether cuz they know the person posting it isn't credible or they've become skeptical when it comes to callout posts in general. So there will still be people willing to hear you out, if you choose to stay in that fandom and try making friends in it again.
Definitely close your asks (or at least close anon) if you haven't done that already, and depending on the level of harassment you're getting, I'd suggest making your posts nonrebloggable. I'm not sure if you're a creator in the fandom, so I know it can hurt to keep creating and not get any notes, but it's better than people reblogging your art, edits or writing only to add hurtful comments to keep harassing you.
I might not know who you are, but I'm rooting for you and hope you'll find a space in fandom (current one or another fandom if you decide to move on) that welcomes you.
Posting since this is a response to a previous problem.

Greatly inspired by my good friend, @mintsuwu's take on this cool relationship chart @valentinbelleyh505 did (along with the relationships for her own own adorable OC, LoolaLamb and our recent RP~ c: Thank-you so much, dears!💕) I decided to a shot at it myself with my very own lil' critter, DeerDelight~🦋🦌 As you can see, DeerDelight gets along with everyone in the group ^.^ Allow me to go into further detail! :3 DogDay: DeerDelight has had feelings for DogDay from the moment they met. She is deeply charmed by his sunny personality, empathy, leadership and positivity. Enamoured with him even, which leads to her great inspiration to write her plays and poems with a romantic theme (even love letters~). DeerDelight loves to shower DogDay with much affection and praise whenever she can, much to his confusion, though he does his best to reciprocate her feelings, since he liked her a lot from the start and is intrigued by her performing art skills. Although DeerDelight secretly wishes for DogDay to feel the same way about her as she strongly feels about him, she is patient. Though it may come true someday when she least expects it...~ Bobby BearHug: With Bobby being the most loving and affectionate of the group, DeerDelight finds comfort in sharing her romantic poems and plays with Bobby the most. Bobby takes such thrill and excitement into reading them, finding them so romantic~ She even gives DeerDelight some love advice and suggestions if needed, for Bobby really hopes she and DogDay will be together someday~ CraftyCorn: When it comes to sharing their love for artistic passions and representations with one another, DeerDelight and CraftyCorn are like two peas in a pod. Sometimes, you'll find DeerDelight being a model for one of Crafty's paintings, her being the most expressive of the critters. They also have a dear sisterly relationship between them, DeerDelight being quite protective of CraftyCorn now and again as she attempts to comfort her if needed to. Kickin'Chicken: According to Kickin', DeerDelight was the first to 'appreciate his talent', much to Hoppy's disbelief. Despite him being whiny, dramatic and loud when she first arrived, DeerDelight has always nice to the cool critter and has taken a liking to him. This caused Kickin' to develop a little crush on her, though he tries not show it. But over time, after seeing how much DeerDelight loves DogDay, she and Kickin'Chicken remain besties to this day, and he supports and respects her feelings for the happy leader, though he likes to tease her about it now and again~ Hoppy Hopscotch: DeerDelight admires Hoppy for her outgoing personality and great determination. Sometimes, Hoppy likes to get DeerDelight to join in with her games and try new things. At the time, she enjoyed teasing Kickin' about his small crush on DeerDelight, and theorized that there was a love triangle between them and DogDay. Bubba BubbaPhant: Bubba, being the brightest critter of the group, has always impressed DeerDelight with his intelligence and wisdom, especially when it comes to cracking math problems. She always asks for his opinion or solution if there's ever a problem, and sees him as a brotherly figure. He's also the one who usually translates her dramatic dialogue if the others are unsure what it means. PickyPiggy: While not eating, Picky is curious about DeerDelight's work and likes to ask her questions, which she is happy to answer. Even when Picky is eating when hanging out with DeerDelight, she likes to offer a bite. She is mostly the one who asks what DeerDelight's dramatic dialogue means when used.
CatNap: Although she is friends with him and they get along, just like the other critters, DeerDelight finds CatNap to be quite a mysterious fellow, but obviously not in a bad way. She does wonder about him now and again, so the feeling is quite neutral between them. On a fun note, she often carry him if he suddenly falls asleep during the critters' antics. 'Phew'...there we go!😚Hope you all like, I had real fun making this!👍🏻✨
*~Reblogs are also deeply appreciated as well, so please do reblog as well as like! Thank-you kindly!~*
