Fictional Weapon War Round 4
Tumblr media
Crescent Rose (RWBY)
Used by Ruby Rose
Is both a scythe and a sniper rifle
Has a storage mode that makes it more compact and easy for travel
Ruby uses its massive recoil to enhance her mobility
She built it herself when attending Signal Academy
Can use different kinds of Dust ammunition with different effects
Dangeresque's Nunchuck Gun (Homestar Runner)
It is a gun with one end of a pair of nunchucks taped to the barrel
Purchased from Cool Weapons Surplus
Typically, only the nunchuck part of the weapon is utilized
Gungnir (Symphogear)
Comes from a spear owned by Odin that is said to never miss and always kill its target
Fragments of this gear are imbedded in the area near Hibiki's (the user) heart
Every time she activates the system, the fusion between her body and it increases
This also caused Hibiki to sometimes enter a berserker rage
Can be used as a sword, but mainly serves as a lance or spear
Can clone itself and spin like a drill to create tornados or whirlwinds
Baby 5 (One Piece)
Baby 5 is a member of the Donquixote pirates
The devil fruit she ate, Buki Buki no Mi, lets her transform all or parts of her body into weapons
This includes a giant sword, a sickle, a pistol, a rifle, a cannon, and even a missile
If her body is broken apart by the weapon she turns into (like a bomb exploding) then her body will reform

Reflections on V4 & V5 of RWBY by a first time watcher
(Lengthy post ahead)
Hi, it's be again, back on my bullshit. First of all, I'd like to say that I didn’t expect my first post to get that much attention LOL. I'd like to clarify (again) two points:
First, I agree with most people's explanations. I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing fans for not thinking that bumbleby would become canon. My intention was to point out to some earlier hints, and I realize now that I could have used some better phrasing. As I explained elsewhere, when rwby aired, I was too young to know anything about the state of queer representation in media at the time. Now of course I know better, although I never got to experience that kind of anxiety - at least, not to that extent. My second point is that I was mostly referring towards homophobes and incels who were trying to persuade shippers that bumbleby wasn't happening, and not to fans who couldn't be certain due to the overall circumstances.
With that said, the aim of this post is mainly to discuss some things I've noticed while watching volumes 4 & 5. There wasn't much I wished to comment on after finishing v4 as I found it very transitional, so I decided to do one unified post for both volumes, especially since someone suggested to watch these volumes as one. Let me now get to the main points I'd like to mention.
-Edit: I forgot one of the most important motifs imo; the moon. I noticed how each volume it looks bit by bit more ruined, showing how the world below is also falling it chaos and society as it is known is destroyed. Also, it's eventual (potential) complete destruction will make the nights darker, symbolizing the triumph of evil. I love subtle details like that.
- Ozpin's and Crow's dynamic really reminds me of Dumbledore and Snape. Ozpin in particular reminds me very much of Dumbledore - and I definitely don't mean that as a good thing. Although he clearly has good intentions and he's a "good guy" per se, sometimes it feels like he's using his students as sacrificial lamps for the greater good. Personally, I'm not exactly font of the idea of pushing the fate of the world onto the shoulders of a bunch of teenagers. Oscar is still a KID and all he's ever known is how to be a farmer and suddenly he's sharing a body with one of the smartest and most powerful people to ever walk the earth and their fates are suddenly intertwined. That's so insane. And on top of everything, Ozpin isn't 100% honest with him. I'm glad that Yang confronts him about keeping secrets. I will give it to him however that he's honest enough to admit his mistakes.
-Raven is probably one of the most fascinating characters. Can't say whether I like her or hate her, but there are so many layers to touch upon. It's interesting how she's constantly trying to prove to others - and essentially to the viewers as well - that she's cruel, smart and calculating (and she definitely is all those things) and that she doesn't care about trifle things, but ultimately she fails, as it is evident by the end of volume 5. She does care about Yang (although she has a very strange way of showing it) and her tribe most of all. She's also smart enough to see Ozpin's shortcomings.
- I liked how they explored Yang's trauma from loosing her arm and how she copes with the loss. "A part of me is lost" is such a powerful statement and it points to how everything has changed, but Yang accepts it.
-At the same time, that girl has no chill with that prosthetic arm. She straight up dismantles it off her shoulder just to win the wrestling against Nora (and later on to elude Mercury. I bet that if anyone asked her to give them a hand, she would just toss it on their feet then laugh her ass out. She's so silly, I love her.
-With that said, I wish they could have explored a little bit more of Jaune's trauma, but still I think we see well enough how Pyrrha's death has affected him. But why the FUCK did they have to give him more trauma in order to unlock his semblance? Another of his friends almost dies before his eyes, give that boy a break, good Lord.
- Ren and Nora 👀. I love me some good childhood bestdriends to potential lovers. Their background is so tragic but there's something about then growing up together that makes me feel things. I love their dynamic and I think it's pretty hilarious (collected, quiet guy and loud, silly, powerful girl). It was nice how they gained some catharsis when they finally killed that monster. And the symbolism when they hid under similar building where Nora tried to calm Ren down? Literal tears.
-"I was struck by a lighting and I lived. What a Wednesday" GIRL WHAT, LMAO
- I really enjoyed Blake's and Sun's dynamic, whether someone sees them romantically or platonically (for me personally it's the latter, but that's besides the point). Sun has always been a great friend, and although he can be really annoying sometimes, he is there for Blake and he's able to make her see things clearly and persuade her that isolating herself isn't a good thing. I feel like without him around, things for the Belladonnas would have been very different. He's a bit of a himbo, but I love him.
-The angsty Bees got me really well this season. Yang's anger is definitely justifiable and she has every right to be upset.
-"What if I wanted her to be here for me?" BITCH-
-Weiss pulling the "what's that supposed to mean?" every time the Bees are being angsty will forever be funny to me. The OG Beekeeper.
-That said, I think that she explains Blake's point of view really well and I liked how she reached out to Yang although "they aren't that close" (her words, not mine) and seeks to comfort her.
-Did I say that I hate Weiss's family? (Except maybe Winter, but the rest can go burn in hell). I'm GLAD Weiss realizes that ream RWBY is her true family. You love to see a good found family trope.
-Genuinely CANNOT stand the Bees this season /j. Blake seeing her team again and the only person she calls out for is Yang? And Yang's puppy eyes when she sees Blake again? WHY ARE YOU GAY?
-One of the funniest lines was when Crow was like "How can six children make so many noise while having dinner?", like BUDDY, you just answered your question. Tired uncle Crow for the win.

I love how this entire volume is "hey Yang makes mistakes, she doesn't always prioritize Ruby, she does tend to assume Ruby is fine on her own, and she didn't actually raise Ruby, Yang and Ruby just think she did like a lot of kids assume even though clearly Taiyang was there because Yang doesn't know how to take care of Ruby emotionally" so clearly someone else did it. And considering she was fine at home, all the implications come back to Taiyang.
This entire volume is saying "Yang and Ruby are wrong, Yang didn't raise Ruby, she just assumes she did because all big sisters do, she actually doesn't know a lot about Ruby anymore and this is a problem". And the fndm is acting like it's bad writing.
When, to me, Yang realizing she's wrong, that she has been making assumptions based on bad information, on inaccurate information, on outdated information, that she screwed up because she overestimates her influence on Ruby's overall personality (and not her actions), that she messed up because she assumed Ruby was as resilient as she is (because she's "raised her"), really gives them a better relationship.
I never believed Yang raised Ruby. Now the show is giving us proof that Yang and Ruby are unreliable narrators to their own backstory and y'all are going "bad writing!" "it's not accurate!" when it's consistent from episode fucking one that this is how they work.
Yang and Ruby consistently miscommunication because they are making the wrong assumptions about each other. Yang assumes Ruby will tell her everything because "big sister" and Ruby assumes she can't tell her anything because "leader" and Yang leans on her for plans. Yang assumed their relationship never changed. Ruby assumed it did.
And they never ever talked about it even once. This is something I've been thinking about since volume 3. This is great.
Maybe y'all need to read deeper. It's about the only part of this season I think is genuinely good.

RWBY KALI’S ALLUSION(S)
Tumblr media
So after previous research I concluded that everyone from the Menagerie arc was from the Jungle Book. Ghira is Bagheera the Black Panther, Kali is Raksha the Mother Wolf, Sienna Khan is Shere Khan the Tiger King, the Albain Twins represent Tabaqui, Shere Khan’s “right hand”, and Ilia represents Mowgli himself (links to both Ilia & Ghira allusion meta below).
Kali was said to be the Mother Wolf because of her motherly love towards Blake. Some have also made the claim that she is actually a wolf Faunus, noting that her ears are structured differently than feline ears. If this was the case, then she is definitely the Mother Wolf.
Tumblr media
ALSO--
Kali's name comes directly from the Goddess of Anger, War, Destruction, etc., in Hindu beliefs. She is commonly referred to as the Divine Mother, Mother Goddess, or Raksha Kali. She is claimed to be the mother of all things in the Universe. Going back to Kali from RWBY, some traits can definitely be seen in her. She is relaxed, yet can stir up a fight when provoked. She is also, say it with me y'all, the mother of Blake.
Tumblr media
It seems awkward that the Jungle Book and some South Asian religious figure would be linked together, until you remember that the actual story for the Jungle Book was set in India. Her Eastern design and references are in tune with both her Mother Wolf allusion and her Hindu Goddess allusion (both allusions involve a Indian mother named Raksha). Ilia's name also plays into this, with her last name "Amitola" meaning rainbow based in a Native American language.
Tumblr media
So basically both of Kali's allusions just water down to "Mom", which, if you ask me, fits very in tune with her character.

Thinking so hard about Anima Arc Weiss right now
She was just trapped, in her own home for months upon end not knowing a thing about how her team’s doing. The only training she could really do in secret was Summoning because anything else would have been heard or seen. She stayed in her room to practice so her usual fighting was off and you see it at Haven with how tired she gets and how she tried so hard to make a summon but it just exhausted and left her vulnerable to Cinder and and and
She wanted the Summon to work so bad bc she probably thought she’d lost all her skills and now that’s all she was good for :((( It knocked her confidence so bad and we’re finally seeing it come back in the last few volumes especially the most recent episode

Every single character I have ever obsessed over falls into one of four categories:
Kid with no one in his corner who's used to looking after himself realises that (often despite his best efforts) people actually care about him and he has a support system.
Older brother type vibes who is the comic relief and painted as dumb or clueless but actually has deep insecurities and is so so smart in other ways and has a fiercely protective streak.
Young (though not always) woman who has been through a rough time and has Trauma but is still strong and refuses to let her past define her and makes an effort to be kind. (this character tends to become part of my soul)
Loser man become dad.
Also bonus points to trope voted Most Relatable but is never my favourite character:
5. Kid who has had a reasonably trauma-less life compared to friends and feels a bit like a sidekick and maybe doesn't consider their problems worthy when their friends have been through so much more

The new outfit switch is going to be really weird in Volume 10
Cuz like, in universe, the characters had their V7-9 outfits for the least amount of time
Out of the Solitas arc, V7 is the longest in universe, taking place of the course of several weeks to a few months (there's enough time for a video game and crossover adventure in there)
And V8/9 all occur within a few days to a little over a week at best (except for Jaune, for him it was decades)
Compare this to the V1-3 and V4-6, each of those arcs happened over the course of months
And it's even weirder because out of universe, the characters have worn their V7-9 outfits for longer than anything else
The Solitas Arc began in early November of 2019 and concluded in late April of 2023
Almost 4 years
V4-6 was a little over 2 years (early Oct 2016-late Jan 2019) and V1-3 was 2 and a half years (mid July 2013-mid Feb 2016, though you can nudge it up to over 3 years if you count the trailers)
