20 Ways how you know you might like RWBY?
Remember, there is no best show ever. Every show has its ups and downs. We’re just going to explain why RWBY is a show worth watching, that’s it.
1) Do you like ATLA, TOH, SPOP and LoK? -> Chances are, you’ll also like RWBY. Its not the same, and its never meant to try to be the same. But it does carry similar things.
2) Do you like stories with badass women taking on the roles typically held by male protagonist?  -> Then you should like RWBY.
3) Do you like stories with found family themes AND positive Step-family relationships?  -> Then RWBY should be on your list.
4) Do you enjoy stories with in depth fantasy lore and history?  -> Then RWBY would be a fantastic show to watch, because it does have them.
5) Do you like analyzing shows that have lots of significant hidden details, foreshadowing, easter eggs, callbacks, and references?  -> Then you’ll quite like RWBY.
6) Do you enjoy watching character development?  -> Chances are then that you’ll like RWBY.
7) Do you like slow burn WLW relationships?  -> RWBY, because BUMBLEBY KISSED TWICE, BABY!
8) Do you like shows with badass soundtracks made specifically for the show with lyrics that even add foreshadowing and other fun details? ->  RWBY has that.
9) Do you enjoy shows that are all about hope and love in the face of despair and hate?  -> RWBY!!!
10) Do you like shows where all of the characters are based on fairy tales, myths, legends, historical figures, etc. with wee details added here and there to give clues as to who each person is based on?  ->RWBY
11) Do you enjoy shows that are more light hearted and fun but then also still get into serious topics like dealing with loss, alcoholism, PTSD, abuse, neglect, abandonment issues, etc?  -> RWBY
12) Do you like badass fight scenes where the animation just keeps getting better and better as the show continues? -> RWBY
13) Do you like Warrior Nun and other similar shows? -> RWBY could very well be enjoyable for you too
14)Do you like long form story telling where details come back from all the way in the beginning of the show? -> RWBY definitely does that. We’re on Volume 9 and they brought up stuff from back in Volume 1 during it.
15) Do you like shows that are even better when you rewatch them cuz you can then pick up on all sorts of details you missed previously that MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW and make you love the show even more? -> RWBY is so damn easy to rewatch
16) Do you like stories that constantly subvert expectations in brilliant ways? Like in ways that MAKE SENSE? -> RWBY!
17) Do you like stories about HOPE that aren’t just naive and blind to everything and to reality? -> RWBY 100%
18) Do you like fantasy-mecha type weapons that can transform and badass n creative character fighting styles? -> Have I said it enough yet?
19) Do you like shows with INTERESTING villains that actually have interesting backstories and motivations that isn’t just simply cuz they’re “evil”? RWBY
20) FINALLY:   Do you like shows that take a very fanservice concept (girls fighting monsters) and gives them stories, personalities, development, and Bechdel-passing relationships, while it takes two male power fantasies (gritty edgelord who uses prolific violence and morally grey actions to pursue a noble goal, and tactical mastermind who makes difficult sacrifices for The Mission) and made them failures?...--> Again, RWBY.
Here’s something else to consider for you
https://yinyangofnevermore.tumblr.com/post/710346324045856768/so-youre-considering-watching-rwby-or-youre
Just remember. NOBODY is saying that RWBY is the best show out there.
We’re simply saying its a good show and that its enjoyable. So please? We’re simply asking you to give this show a chance.

I know we’re all busy being emotionally destroyed by Guide My Way and Worthy, and rightly so, but my favorite is still probably Checkmate. It just brings that classic RWBY energy that a lot of the battle tracks do.
Namely: “yeah I’m kicking your ass, what are you gonna do, cry about it? Bitch.”
Just. Sometimes you need something super emotional telling you you are a good person deserving of love. Sometimes you wanna bop to four minutes of diss track.
It’s the same way I felt about Indomitable versus Big Metal Shoe in the volume 6 soundtrack. One is for blasting in the car, one is for crying to myself after a bad day.

Heya! What would you say your favorite rwby songs are from the rwby soundtrack? Hope you're having a good day!
ooooooooooh... I'm going to spend entirely too much time on this ask, but I don't care because it's going to be fun. I'll give myself two favorites from each Volume, I think? So I don't ramble on for-fucking-ever. Onwards!
(Also consider every intro song as one of my favorites as well, because it's true.)
Volume 1:
I May Fall. The amount of foreshadowing in this song is insane and the fact that it's in the v1 soundtrack is laughable. Notably, it of course does have a hopeful message, but man... they had no idea what was comin', huh?
Red Like Rose, Pt. 2. Of course. The first little hint we see of especially Ruby's flawed coping mechanisms, and to have a song about Summer, like, ten years before she actually appears in the show is insane. It's a banger, and the lyrics "I made a sacrifice but forced a bigger sacrifice on you" is just!!!!!!! You know?
(Runner-up: Wings. You cannot convince me it's not the very first Bumbleby song.)
Volume 2:
Die. I guess I just really like dark songs from the earlier volumes; this one's just fun, and it does well to set up the Bad Times (tm) that are coming with v3. If you thought everything was fine and happy during the first two volumes, just check out the soundtrack. It didn't just come out of nowhere.
Sacrifice. Continuing on with the theme, I guess. I'm also a known Cinder Fan, so this as part of her theme is just... really, really cool. Again, some serious foreshadowing. The chorus for this one is really good; just again a super fun song to listen to.
(Runner-up: Boop. Banger.)
Volume 3:
It's My Turn. Fav Weiss song, maybe? Certainly one of the best ones. Sets the stage for Weiss' feelings considering her family that comes up in this volume and the next ones, and it helps that this song plays during the first arena fight with Team RWBY, which is a bomb-ass scene.
Divide. PEAK villain song, and I mean peak victorious villain song. The goal to split up the protagonists isn't exactly a rare thing, but the fact that it works... this entire song is just a kick to the face; they've already lost, and now they're having to hear about it. Divide them, and that's already happened. It's a fucking fantastic song. One of my favorites overall, I think, not just from v3.
(Runner-up: Mirror, Mirror, Pt. 2. Weiss gets a lot of great ones.)
Volume 4:
Like Morning Follows Night. Bit of an expected choice, probably, but this song is just too damn good. I really love the argument in the beginning between Blake and Sun, and it's just... god, it's good. Blake songs are always incredible.
Armed and Ready. I mean, of course. Yang's Getting Back Up moment, Bees crumbs, the incredible way the tone of this one changes from fear to determination?? Fantastic. Also, the title being a pun is just... yeah. It's so good.
(Runner-up: Bmblb, because of course. Also, holy fuck this volume was hard. V4's soundtrack is stacked.)
Volume 5:
Smile. Ilia! Love Ilia. Love this song. It has one of my favorite rhythms in RWBY, and man, the amount of character backstory that we get from it is crazy. It's not a backstory you really need to know if you don't listen, but it's nice to hear nonetheless. Ilia beloved <3
This Time. Like I said: Blake songs are always incredible. Blake and her papa!!! Making a better world for the Faunus!!! Just really love the implications of this song, of Ghira and Blake side-by-side as they rally the rest of Menagerie. Really cool.
(Runner up: All That Matters. The yearning, my god. Yang is down bad and she's going to make it everyone else's problem.)
Volume 6:
Miracle. A lingering darkness from v5; they're not at all in a great place by the beginning of v6, but they're still fighting! Another one of my actual favorites overall, it's just a banger.
Nevermore. A Blake and Yang duet that explicitly details how they're feeling when they stab Adam??? That's one of the best concepts I've ever heard, and it's insane. This one is also a bit nostalgic; I watched RWBY after v6 stopped airing but before the soundtrack had dropped, and I specifically remember jamming out to Nevermore the day it was released. Peak romance, actually.
(Runner-up: Indomitable. Still makes me want to cry. Singlehandedly one of the most powerful songs, I think.)
Volume 7:
Touch the Sky. Blake song!! Blake song where she's happy! Blake song where she talks about finally feeling like herself again!!! What the fuck!!!! This one gets me so emotional every time. She's healed.
War. Complete opposite vibes of the last, but still cool as hell. The fact that they got four different voices in this one to play as RWBY is incredible, and my god is it a banger. Betrayal vibes, obviously, but like, looking down your nose at the person who turned their back on you. Super cool.
(Runner-up: Brand New Day. Another happy one!! God... we had no idea how good v7 was being to us.)
Volume 8:
Treasure. Oh, you thought v5's All That Matters was peak yearning? You were wrong! Blake's pining knocks Yang's out of the park, especially considering they're apart in this volume for like, three days maximum. Blake is in love and she's going to make it everyone else's (Weiss') problem.
Friend. I mean... what can I say about this song? RWBY's not exactly short on "mourning this person" music, but the fact that this one is explicitly cheery... it's just. Wow. It's Penny in a nutshell, and while it's still devastating, it's also, like. Celebrating her life. Celebrating what she did get to have, rather than grieving that she won't get to have more. It's really, really good, and the song itself is fantastic.
(Runner-up: Be Strong and Hit Stuff. Nora themes! Emerald themes! And what a catchy chorus!)
Overall, thanks for this ask, I had way too much fun with it. Sorry for how long it got lmfao, I have Opinions about this show. I don't think there's a single song I actively dislike, though of course I've got my less favorites. Hope you enjoyed my madness :)

Watch me get flamed for this unpopular opinion:
I really don't like 'One Thing' from the RWBY volume 6 soundtrack. It's up there with my most disliked songs from the entire series.
Gonna go hide now! 😀

Your Weekly RWBY Vol 9 Recap: Episode 3
I think this episode pissed me off more than both of the prior ones combined because the entire first half is filler. That's not a joke. You could snip it from the episode and lose nothing. In fact, it'd probably improve because the characters were extremely irritating. Speaking of,
Hey, remember Caroline Cordovin? That short, blustery lady from Volume 6 that walked in from another show entirely and was like "I'm so freaking hilarious in my obnoxiousness and petulance" except she wasn't? Well, that's basically the Red Prince only this one is worse. His entire character is being as bratty and obnoxious as possible, to the point of contradiction, a trait he has purely so that it will take as long as possible to get to what the episode's really about.
Something like 10 minutes into a 20 minute episode, we finally get the goods: Ruby vs the Prince at checkers (with chess pieces, but like...it's checkers) and WBY shrunk down to fit on the board. The fight scenes weren't stellar, but they had enough ambition, especially once WBY vs. every piece on the board, to almost impress me. Weiss combines her summoning with Yang's semblance to just crash into the board with a gigantic sword and it's awesome.
Casey and Ok Goodnight, who jump in with the music for the fight scene, are..............................well. They're great. Excellent, even. Combining metal and electro swing is a brilliant idea and blows every soundtrack since Volume 4 out of the water (sorry Jeff). It's not enough to save the episode, not even close, but I genuinely look forward to hearing more of their work and am sorry it has to be attached to a product with barely any life in it.
The end of the episode features the Cheshire Cat being vaguely annoying and Neo making planetfall. The Jabberwalker finds her and Neo immediately starts cloning herself and makes it her bitch.

100+ REASONS TO WATCH AND ENJOY RWBY
Let’s put this as simply as we can.
Tumblr media
Now, I understand you’ll need further reasons to look into the show that was created by Monty Oum, Miles Luna, and Kerry Shawcross.
SO! Here is 100+ Reasons to give RWBY a shot, plus a resource list link at the end. ENJOY!
1) Sci-fi/fantasy show that balances the two aspects very well 2) Endearing characters 3) Deep underlying messages about the importance of human connection 4) Constantly improves on itself 5) Writers actually try to listen to what the fandom wants 6) Creative setting 7) Actually handles difficult topics, like communication, privilege, and the cycle of abuse in a way that is sensitive to the audience 8) Ending is already set, meaning the show is not at risk of selling out to corporate overlords 9) God-tier foreshadowing 10) Top notch fight choreography 11) EVERYTHING IS A GUN 12) RWBY unambiguously avoids Depraved Homosexual tropes - no evil LGBT characters
13) No surprise plot twists for the sake of shock value 14) The soundtrack Not only does it slap, bits of lore and characterization can be found in the series music 15) Character design 16) Symbolism and metaphors and hidden meanings abound Can make for an enriching experience if you have knowledge about color theory and fairy tales and historical/mythological figures 17) Nuanced portrayal of morality between heroes, villains, and those who are neither 18) Layered writing where not everything, especially conflict, is clear-cut and easily resolved 19) Portrays trauma without over-dramatization 20) Production values improve with each volume 21) Hopepunk 22) Female-Centric main cast All the “Fix-it” fanfics and “Rewrites” involve Male-Centric Casts and/or taking time away from female main casts to focus on male characters, especially male side characters. 23) No surprise plot twists for the sake of shock value meets Thanos snap. 24) Good bits of humor sprinkled throughout without being overbearing 25) A few villians that while irredeemable, are interesting to watch in how they act. 26) Masterpiece of a comedy spinoff 27) You can legally watch the show for free 28) Subverts narrative tropes common to both "western" hero stories and anime 29) Gender dynamics and expectations are well-balanced Gender  tropes subverted, and addressed directly at times 30) Comfortably addresses class warfare, alcoholism, and other "mature" topics in approachable ways 31) Corgi 32) Combat Skirt 33) Women get to have pockets and pouches... 34) Women not requiring a man to save them 35) Large number of POC portrayed positively 36) LGBT are neither creeps nor villains, instead the straight people are. 37) POC are neither creeps nor villains as a majority...instead the white people are. 38) The “White Male Savior” with the mask, trenchcoat, and katana is the villain, while the underdog protector of the lower-income is a POC woman who may or may not be lesbian. 39) Meaningful facial expressions (that is, the animators spend time creating mood and reaction to elevate the storytelling) 40) Main antagonist is a woman, as are several of the other antagonists and they are NOT ditzes or idiots, nor are they fanservice. 41) The women are as intelligent as the men, where most anime try to have men be superior than women for the sake of shounen, the women are equal to men in screentime, plot relevance, intelligence, strength, personality, etc....though RWBY tries to have the women take precedence. 42) Men are support characters with their powers, while Women have more protagonist superpowers. 43) Positive half-sibling and stepmother representation 44) Positive honorary family member representation 45) Gay shipping and Lesbian shipping is encouraged by the writers and voice actors/actresses 46) The Main female protagonist's blood-based superpower is not broken or OP and has limits. 47) Well-executed humor (usually, ha). Basically trying NOT to make it fanservice or toilet humor or cringe. 48) Creators at least try to fix its less than stellar/problematic parts, which is more that I can say than the majority of entertainment. 49) Female characters are complex and interesting, also for the most part don’t woobified female villains. 50) Terrifying Villains and Monsters There is a difference. V1-V3 involved Monsters , V4-V8 involved Villains. 51) Every Character is based on a fairy tale/myth/legend/story and looking for those breadcrumbs just adds to the show 52) Already said, but emphasizing the fight choreography and the soundtrack. If you love over-the-top video game style fights this is for you. If you love epic metal playing over those fights this is for you. 53) Plays with tropes and story telling norms to subvert expectations in the best way 54) Not afraid to have tonal shifts to tell the story they want to tell 55) Not afraid to have the heroes lose sometimes 56) And plot points have consequences!!! None of this "bad thing happens and 1 episode later the status quo is restored" 57) Emphasizing foreshadowing again. Things that happened in season 8 were foreshadowed as far back as season 2. 58) The main characters are proactive. None of this waiting around for them to get up the courage to do something about the bad guys. Don't give me the “manor tea” stuff, they were trying to recover, Ironwood had it out for them and would have shot them for helping while refusing to obey him. 59) The Main characters are smart. They notice things (and come up with really cool strategies) 60) At least one villain does NOT underestimate the main characters 61) Everyone doesn't let characters use false justification for their actions regardless who it is! Everyone gets a consequence that fits! 62) Soundtrack is LIT 63) Gay Gay Homosexual Gay 64) Because I'm still on this, two autistic-coded main characters whose traits aid in their heroism! Ruby and Penny...possibly Marrow Amin 65) Kdin Jenzen, a Transgender VA, plays May Marigold, a transgender heroic side character who does not get killed off. 66) Chaotic teens saving the world with the power of stubborn optimism 67) Opposites Attract Tropes 68) Goth Uncle 69) Goth Milf 70) Himbo Dad 71) Non-sexualized Catgirl 72) Cat Cougar Milf with Tea Tray defeats Bat Assassin 73) Panther Dilf 74) Blonde Brawler Female who is also smart and can work mechanics 75) Female protag uses scythe and cape/cloak 76) It Portrays several different types of abuse ranging from romantic relationships to familial abuse along with accurately portraying them 77) Shows how harmful Alcoholism is 78) When/If a a character dies, it’s for a reason and isn’t for shock value Penny cheated death once...she would not cheat death again. Ozpin's immortality is a curse, and he is truly dead, a ghost. 79) One of the the main-main characters is disabled and isn’t treated as/seen as lesser 80) Male/Female friendships are a thing and abundant Normally if a man and a woman engage, its shipping, not friendships. But with Naruto and Sakura we have friendship. With Ichigo and Rukia its friendship....now that is abundant friendship in RWBY. 81) LGBT Voice Actresses Voice LGBT Characters. Kdin Jenzen is Transgender, Arryn Zech is Bisexual, and so are their characters. 82) All Romantic relationships, heterosexual or not, are given attention and emphasis on their interpersonal relationships 83) Balances tragedy and comedy, there are SEVERAL episodes where you both end up laughing your ass off and crying 84) Never goes all out depressing, the message is clear, it takes it to heart, and it shouts it for all to hear. Sometimes bad things happen. But you have to keep moving forward. 85) Has a variety of characters, each with their own themes/allusions (e.g. Ruby = Red Riding Hood, Team RWBY = Fairy Tale Characters, Team JNPR = Crossdressing Historic Heroes) 86) Amazing Music that builds on the characters' motives 87) You won't suffer vision problems after watching an entire cast that's blindingly white (shounen anime in general) 88) Gay doesn't suddenly die to leave heartbroken love interest Straight and angstily going back to the white guy who killed Gay out of possessive jealousy, which is super romantic. 89) Partners of dead Gays, should a Gay die, will not obligatorily be paired with someone str8   90) Character designs reference various fairy tales and stories, so you can get things like Mulan and Thor being a childhood friends romance, Beast and Beauty being one and the same and in love with Goldilocks, and Red Riding Hood maiming Cinderella, who is evil. 91) Everyone; good, bad, and the minor characters...are all hot. 92) You WILL get attached both to the good and bad characters. 93) All characters have very unique designs that fit their personalities and fighting styles. 94) Emotional/Physical Abusers get killed AFTER being humiliated 95) The Entire Show is full of metaphors and symbolism. The backgrounds, character clothing, the weapons they use... it's fun to analyze! 96) Stresses the importance of just being a nice person above all other stereotypical morally gray anime tropes 97) The people who work the the show. Seriously not just the main people; I'm talking about all the unsung heroes who do amazing background and scenery to sound design, etc. RWBY has some of the nicest, most hard working, and supportive crews I've seen. And considering the amount of harassment the anti-fandom can throw at them, they take and handle it so remarkably well. 98) Every character looks amazing from main to one-off. How their outfits convey who they are so well and sometimes subtlety. Also how the creators and character designers make it so cosplayers can have pockets on their outfits. 99) No  stupid twists for shock value, the twists that do happen are foreseeable but executed in a way that is still shocking. 100) Enjoyable Comedic Spin-off far better written than Teen Titans Go. 101) Awesome weapon concepts 102) Awesome growth of story, plot, and transition of it. 103) People hate it when you have fun watching RWBY....is that not enough?
Need to come up with a list of good youtube channels next.

RWBY Volume 9 soundtrack song ranks
So I finally feel like I've put enough listens in to properly rank the songs on the Volume 9 soundtrack. Took a bit of extra time, not because I couldn't listen to it but because I found my initial impressions crumbling on repeat listens and therefore felt I needed more time to see where things shook out. This is just the original songs so no score tracks or the lofi wings.
Chatterbox - I can't stop talking about how awesome this song is, just such wonderfully sinister first verse and the pre-chorus kicks things up wonderfully setting the up the catchy as hell chorus. Martin's Guitar work is also great and evocative. All that being said it did just barely edge out.
Trapdoor - The funky little electronic lead in is so good and the may the chorus bounces along so wonderfully disguise how absolutely devastating emotionally this song is. This is really driven home by the outro which also brings some of the electronic vibes back after the rock centric middle. Just so easy to fall down the rabbit hole listening to this one.
Inside - Another banger of any opening and the fact it's only #3 is just a testament to how much I love the top 2. Really a great idea for what Casey and Martin have in store, it still sounds RWBY but has some of the prog elements from OK Goodnight (Casey's current band and Martins former bands) which I honestly think help give this volume it's own vibe musically and takes you into it's heart.
Checkmate - Love the jazzy feel of this song, the horn elements (courtesy of Zac Zinger) are great and Casey's vocals and the rhythm of the song have such a fun feeling that it's game set match.
Worthy - I'll be honest first couple listens the vocal elements acting as music over the top of the sung parts was not working for me, but slowly they gained foothold and the wonderful emotions took over so guess in the end the song was like it's title. I also think Ariyel was great, her parts gave me a Christina Perri vibe and I really like the interplay between her and Casey.
Guide My Way - I mean this song is really good a bit slow to start but the moment the melody of Red Like Roses Kicks in the song takes it to another gear, plus the "I'm what inspired the fairy tale line", really helps lead you along in the song. Note this is #6 not because it's not a banger but because of how god damned amazing this album is.
The Edge - A solid ending track it's laid back vibe at the beginning and soaring to the ending is very fitting vibe fore album but it can't edge out the tunes prior to it.
Quiet - I did the clock theme and it ticks off some boxes but it's easily the least interesting track on the album to me, again not bad just not necessarily my jam, just doesn't quiet do it for me.
Well if we can #greenlightvolume10 I sure hope Casey and Martin get to keep making the music because they knocked it out of the park. No shot at Jeff Williams but I love the new influences that they brought in, again it still sounds fitting to RWBY but with a new energy.
