Chapter 33

Remnant: week 21

The week was highlighted by Professor Port taking the class to Beacon Cliff. "Headmaster Ozpin want's some of the Grimm cleared out of the Emerald Forest. He says they are becoming a problem in the forest." Professor Port told us. "So today you get the pleasure of taking care of the overabundance of Grimm. Won't that be fun!" Professor Port said.

"It's a lot more fun than listening to your boring stories." I said just loud enough for those near me to hear.

There were a few chuckles and some coughs as if they were trying to cover up their laughter.

Professor Port cleared his throat and went on. "Each of you need to kill two average size Grimm in order to reduce the number of Grimm in the Emerald Forest." He grinned at the students as if he was handing out candy to us. "A giant Grimm is equal to four Grimm. You will be dropped off by airships in groups of two Teams. You can work together or separate into your own Teams. When you have completed your task, you can either head back to the cliff or wait for the air ship to pick you up."

Professor Port called out Teams putting them into pairs. My Team was paired with Team JSMN.

Once all the Teams were paired up. "Well, since we're teamed up with Team JSMN, we should find them before we head out." Jett said to us.

Being the tallest, Willow looked around and spotted Team JSMN and pointed to them. "There they are." She informed us.

"Lead the way." I told her.

Willow headed off in the direction she had been pointing. She waved her arm and called out to them. "Jyll! Over here!" Willow turned to us. "They're coming this way." She told us while still waving, so Team JSMN could find us.

Shortly we were all standing in a group waiting to board an air ship.

An air ship landed, and we headed towards it. As we were boarding the air ship. "We're going it on our own, once we land." Jyll told our Team.

"That's fine with us." Jett replied.

Sunflower walked over to me. "Do you really have a recording studio in your house?" She asked me.

I chuckled. "Yes, I really have a recording studio in my house. As well as a bath house, craft room and a library." I told her.

"WOW! You have a bath house IN your house?! That's wild. I haven't been to a bath house since I left home to come here to Beacon Acadamy. Can I use it? I'd love to go to a bath house again." Sunflower said excitedly.

"The bath house is there for anyone to use that wants to use it. So, you're quite welcome to use it when you visit this weekend." I informed her.

"That's great! It's going to be like being back home." Sunflower replied as if she were going on a holiday trip.

Over the intercom. "Teams JWCE and JSMN. This is your drop point." Looking out we could see that the air ship had stopped moving.

Crystal looked out the door of the air ship. "And they mean 'drop point' literally." she said and giggled.

"Let's go Team JWCE." I told my Team and looked to see if they were ready to jump out of the air ship. I looked over to Team JSMN. "See you on the ground." And I stepped out of the air ship

Willow, Jett and Crystal followed me out of the air ship. We were at least three hundred feet up in the air when we stepped out in mid-air. Even though I could fly, I used my Semblance to alter gravity and slow my decent to the ground. With my Team following right after me, they were above me. They were able to use the gravity well that I had created and was using.

"Using your Semblance is cheating!" Mousa yelled laughing as she dropped down, about fifty feet in front of us. The rest of her Team dropped down right behind her. Team JSMN dropped like a lead balloon while my Team descended as if we were on an elevator. It took us longer to reach the ground than Team JSMN, but our landing was less… hectic.

Once on the ground Jyll called out to us. "We're heading this way." She said pointing off to her right. "And we're going to circle back to the cliff." She informed us.

"Then we'll head that way." Jett replied pointing to the left. "Keep in touch." She finished as Team JSMN started walking in the direction Jyll had indicated.

Sunflower looked over her shoulder. "Will do." She said, waved then turned back around.

Jett led us in the direction she had pointed. I don't believe she had a real path for us to take, just a general direction.

I believe Professor Port wanted us to work in larger groups for times when we may need to work in groups of six or larger. And it would have been interesting to fight on a team of eight, but I wasn't going to argue with Jyll about it.

After walking for ten minutes without seeing any Grimm. I started calling out. "Here beasty, beasty, beasty come and eat me. Opps! I lost my shield… Here beasty, beasty, beasty come and eat me. Opps! I lost my sword…"

Willow interrupted me. "What are you doing?" She asked.

I chuckled. "It's an old DnD thing. If your character can't find a monster to fight you start calling that out. It works unless your lawful good. If your Lawful Good, then you have to drop all the things you are saying you dropped." I explained.

Willow started laughing. "You're using a Role-Playing Game strategy to find Grimm?"

"Yes and no. It's more of a joke then a strategy and I'm doing it mainly for fun. But by making noise it might attract Grimm." I said.

"You don't think we'll run into any Grimm?" Crystal asked.

It's not really that. With as many Grimm that are in this forest we'll run into Grimm sooner or later. But, we're not likely to bring Grimm to us because of fear, anger or despair, because of our abilities. Thus, we will have to bring Grimm to us by other means, and right now, the means to attract Grimm, is making noise." I told her.

"Our abilities doesn't stop us from getting angry or feeling despair." Willow said.

"True, true. Although, y'all's lives are at a point where there is little reason for you to be angry about anything. Y'all are intelligent enough that your homework is fairly easy, so there's no anger or despair. Y'all's lives are, if not great they are at least good enough that you're happy. Again, no cause for anger or despair." I told them.

"I'm more than happy where I'm living and what I'm doing." Jett said.

"I'm having a wonderful life living with you and all the girls. Working at Tel Aviv Hold and learning to be a Huntress here at Beacon Acadamy. It's great to be able to travel between the different universes and see different planets." Willow added.

"And because of that, we're not going to attract Grimm." I said grinning. "So, we have to find a different way to attract them."

"That makes since." Crystal replied. "Here beasty, beasty, beasty, come and eat me."

"Oops! I dropped my shield." Willow said.

"Here beasty, beasty, beasty, come and eat me." Jett Started.

"Oops! I dropped my sword." Crystal finished.

"Here beasty, beasty, beasty, come and eat me. Oops! I dropped my armor." I said.

We all started laughing.

Willow stopped laughing. "We have company!" She warned us. Her 'Third Eye' or Danger sense, letting her know there was danger close by.

"GGRRRAAHHRR." Came from behind some nearby bushes.

Another "RRHHRR." Was heard off to the side.

"Whoa! Looks like it worked." Willow said.

Several Ursa pushed their way through the bushes. There were a total of six Ursa facing us.

"Willow, Cristal and I will take the closest three. Eilwyn hold the back three at bay." Jett gave us our instructions.

This would be easy for me. I increased the gravity under the three Ursa in the back to the point they could not move.

Each girl already had their weapon in their hands. Jett ran towards the middle Ursa. The ursa swung a paw at her. Jett dove to the right and rolled, coming up on her feet to the ursa's side. She charged her Kusari-Gama with electricity, using her weapon's electrical rune then swung her right Kusari-Gama at the ursa. The Kusari-Gama's blade sunk all eighteen inches into the ursa and released the electrical charge into the ursa, sending electrical arcs over its body. The ursa fell away from Jett as she pulled her Kusari-Gama from the ursa's body. The ursa turned into a cloud of black smoke.

Willow brought her shield in front of herself, then hit the front of the shield with the side of her war hammer, making a clanging, banging sound, to attract her Ursa.

The noise seemed to irritate the ursa. "RRRAAARRR!" The closest ursa to Willow roared and charged at her. Willow raised her war hammer up, but in front of the ursa a wall of stone rose out of the ground. The charging Ursa slammed into the stone wall, not having time to stop. Lowering her war hammer the stone wall sunk back into the ground. Willow ran up to the prone Ursa and slammed her war hammer onto the bone plate on its head. Killing her Ursa. It turned into a cloud of smoke and drifted away.

Crystal extended all four of her extra arms. Her Ursa took a swipe at one of her front arms and knocked it out from under her. Since Crystal had been standing on all four arms it didn't knock her over. Crystal created a thin jet of water, using it to cut through the ursa's neck. Cutting its head off. Crystal's ursa fell into a heap right before it evaporated into a cloud of black smoke.

With the last of the first three Ursa dead, Willow called out. "Release the krakens!" And giggled.

I looked at Jett and she nodded her head in agreement. I released the gravity on the last three Ursa so they could move again, and I backed out of the way.

"Same as last three." Jett said.

"On it." Crystal replied.

"Easy peasy." Willow said, and advanced on the closest Ursa to her.

Crystal reached up with her top two arms, grabbing two different trees, pulling herself fifteen feet off the ground. She looked like a giant spider. At the same time, she reached down with her two bottom arms. Wrapping the arms in opposite directions around her ursa's neck several times. The next moment Crystal retracted both bottom arms at the same time. Using them like saw blades, cutting the ursa's head off. As the ursa's body hit the ground it was turning into a cloud of black smoke.

"Remind me to not piss you off, Crystal." I told her.

Crystal looked down at me and grinned evilly, right before she dropped to the ground.

"I haven't thought of using the arms that way." I told her.

Crystal blushed. "I just thought of it and thought I'd give it a try. I thought I would use the Ursa's own weight against it." She told me.

"It worked. Well done. You came at it from a different angle. Both literally and figuratively." I told her smiling at her.

Jett created ice under the Ursa in front of her. Her Ursa fell when it tried to take a step on the ice. Jett then struck the Ursa with both of her Kusari-Gamas killing the Ursa.

Willow's Ursa charged at her. Willow took a fighting stance with her shield held in front of herself, and her war hammer held back ready to swing. She brought her war hammer forward and down to strike the Ursa. Willow had decided to use extended range, so as the war hammer came down there was a shimmering image of the head of the war hammer ten feet in front of Willow following along with the head of the war hammer. The shimmering image hit the Ursa and knocked it to the ground. Willow jumped, coming down bringing her war hammer down again and striking the Ursa a second time, killing it.

Willow watched as the Ursa turned into a cloud of black smoke and drifted away.

"That's it. Y'all have your quota of Grimm while I have 'none'. I'm odd man out." I said jokingly.

"You're always the odd man out, on this Team." Willow said. Willow had obviously been around me too long, she was picking up my since of humor.

I stuck my tongue out at her.

"We will find you some Grimm to kill." Crystal offered, with a smirk on her face.

"How kind of you." I replied sarcastically, grinning.

Crystal giggled.

We started walking again towards the cliff.

After a half hour, Crystal was true to her word. They found a Grimm for me. It was a Giant Death Stalker.

"There you go." Crystal said pointing to the Giant Death Stalker. "There's your Grimm. It's even big enough to count as four Grimm." She said grinning.

"OH, how kind of you!" I said fairly loudly and sarcastically. Probably loud enough for the Giant Death Stalker to be able to hear me, which was my intention.

"What's wrong? Don't you think you can kill it?" Willow asked with a small grin on her face.

"That's right y'all got to fight," I held my hand up with my index finger and thumb almost touching. "Itsy bitsy Ursa, and you give me this, HUGE," I spread my arms out wide. "Death Stalker!"

Most anyone watching us, would think we were arguing, when we were just playing around. The girls and I were teasing each other.

"Well, if you can't take the Death Stalker all by yourself. Us little girls can help you with the Big, Bad, Death Stalker." Jett said teasingly in a baby voice.

The Death Stalker had turned in our direction and started walking towards us while we were talking. Attracted by the sound of our voices.

"Ha… ha… ha." I fake laughed. "Since it will make you feel like you're actually, doing something. Keep it distracted." I said as I jumped into the air and drew my weapon.

Willow, Jett and Crystal looked at each other then turned to the Giant Death Stalker.

Jett created and shot ice shards at the Death Stalker. It backed up and shook like a horse shaking off a biting fly.

Willow drew shadow tentacle out of the ground to entangle the Death Stalker. The Death Stalker came to an abrupt holt, the shadow tentacles stopping it in its tracks.

Crystal hit it with a bold of electricity stunning the Death Stalker for a few moments.

While all of this was going on, I came down throwing my Naginata. As it left my hand, I made duplicates of it, so there were thirty-one Naginatas flying towards the Death Stalker. I recalled my weapon to me just before the duplicates hit their target. The Death Stalker screamed in pain as the thirty duplicate Naginatas impacted it. As I reached striking range, I thrust my Naginata into the Death Stalker between its eyes. The Death Stalker dropped to the ground then turned into a cloud of black smoke, as I landed beside where the Death Stalker had been.

"See… You couldn't have done it without our help." Willow said, giggling.

I turned to Willow and wiggled my head from side to side and said. "Ha, ha, ha."

Crystal and Jett broke out laughing.

Once Jett had her laughing under control. "The Giant Death Stalker counts as four Grimm. That gives us ten kills, which means we can head back to the cliff." And with that said, we headed back to Beacon Cliff.

Team RWBY beat us back to the cliff, but then, they had been dropped off closer to the cliff than we had been.

"Hey Blake, how'd your hunt go?" Willow asked.

"We did good. We ran into a pack of Baowolves and were able to get our kills all at one time." Blake replied. "How about your Team?"

"Crystal, Jett and I made our kills with a pack of six Ursa. Then we helped Eilwyn take down a Giant Death Stalker. So, we got two extra kills." Willow told her.

Blake looked impressed. But I had to speak up and tell the whole story. "I held off three of the Ursa while they took out the first three." I glared at Willow. "And with the Giant Death Stalker, I had the girls distract it while I went in for the kill." I started. "While 'some' try to make it look like I needed help to take out my Grimm." I finished and stuck my tongue out at Willow.

Blake laughed. She had been around me and my Team enough to know how we tease each other. "You four work so well together. I'm sure you each had an equal part in making your kills." Blake told us.

Willow looked like she was a little reluctant to admit the truth, but she gave in. "Ya, Eilwyn did as much as the rest of us. Maybe a little more than the rest of us." She said sheepishly.

"A good leader makes sure each member of their Team does their fair share." Ruby said grinning as she walked up to us.

"And Jett is a good leader." I said.

"Yes, Jett's a good leader." Willow agreed.

Weiss and Yang walked up. "Team JWCE took out a Giant Death Stalker." Blake told her Team.

Ruby's eyes grew big and round. "You did?! I hate those things."

"If I remember correctly, you like riding Nevermores." I responded.

Weiss had walked up as I talked to Ruby and Blake. "Don't remind me. That was awful, and you" She pointed at Ruby. "Left me up there all alone."

"I told you, to jump." Ruby replied.

Weiss shook her head, turned around and walked off.

"She should have made a slide with her glyphs and just slid to the ground." I suggested. "But then we were all nervous that day."

if there's one thing that rwby needs more of, it's ruins. they started so well with the emerald forest and then... nothing :(

where's team rnjr camping in the ruins of an ancient watchtower where you can barely tell where the walls used to stand, what still remains having been eroded by time and taken over by nature? where are the towns and villages, even just a smallest of settlements inhabited by a single family, built within walls that used to protect castles of the past but now are the only thing even remotely left standing?

i would literally take suspiciously rectangular stones jutting out of the ground, that's how desperate i am for more ruins.

Dragon Faunus AU: We see that Jaune has fire breath. But could we see something where after he learned how to use aura, maybe get something akin to aura breath? That or some godzilla traits and have him glow when he uses it now.

Who Will Know?

The log was ripped to shreds as, Jaune’s razor sharp talons tore through the hunk of would like paper. Ripped apart wood chips, and torn up metal plates littered the floor as a result of, Dr. Oobaleck’s rampant testing of his abilities.

Oobaleck: Excellent! Well done, Mr Arc. These test will prove highly valuable at testing the limits of your faunas abilities.

Jaune: Thanks for helping me with this Dr. I’m sure my friends could have help, but I’m not so sure about the whole data collecting aspect of it all.

Jaune, and his team, along with team RWBY made their way to the, Emerald Falls in order to run a series of test to determine, Jaune’s faunas ability. Considering his rather unique nature as a faunas, tests needed to be done. The only reason they were doing it outside was to be away from prying eyes.

And, potential property damage.

Oobaleck: Think nothing of it ! Why, this research opportunity is unlike any other I have been tasked to do. I relish the opportunity!

Jaune: Well, glad someone enjoying themselves, bar Nora…

As if on cue, Nora slammed another log before him with her usual wild eyed maniac gaze within her eyes.

Nora: Again!

Jaune: Must I? I mean, I’ve already shredded an entire tree. Possibly more than that.

Oobaleck: No, we have gained enough research on your talons, now it is time to test you ability to breath fire!

Yang: Whoo!

Ruby: Yes!

Nora: FINALLY!

His friends suddenly drew out sticks with marshmallows at the end of them, Jaune couldn’t help, but stare at his friends dumbfounded.

Jaune: Serious?! Is that the whole reason you’re here; For smores?!

Yang: Yes.

Ruby: Absolutely.

Nora: Hell yeah!

Jaune sighed as he turned his head as he looked towards the rest of his team.

Jaune: Can you believe…?

Jaune saw something that surprised him, but really shouldn’t have surprised him. The rest of his friends with marshmallows on sticks. What surprised him the most however was that, Weiss had several of them on the end of her rapier.

Jaune: Really? And, seriously, Weiss? I thought you would find smores too pedestrian for your refined pallet?

Weiss: I thought so too, then, Ruby shoved one in my mouth, and I became hooked to the taste of it! Now, less talking, more smore making!

Jaune: Oh gods…

Oobaleck: Now, now students! There will be time later for smores, class is still in session!

NPRRWBY: Naww…

Jaune: Yay!

Oobaleck: Now then, since we already know the much control you have on your flame. Lets see what happens when you let loose with your fire breath.

Jaune: Uhh…?

Jaune nervously looked around him, before addressing his teacher again.

Jaune: You want me to let loose with my fire breath…

Oobaleck: Yes.

Jaune: In the middle of a flammable forest?

Oobaleck: Worry not, Mr. Arc, Ms. Schnee’s surplus of, Dust should prevent any accidents from happening.

Jaune: Will it?

Weiss: Depends on how strong the fire is.

Jaune: Oh… Okay… Haa… Let’s do this then.

Oobaleck: Direct your fire to the tree in front of you. This one is relatively father away from the rest. This will prevent the fire from spread. Hopefully.

Jaune: I heard that.

Nora: Lest talking, more fire!

Jaune: Haa… Okay, let’s do this…

Jaune turned towards the tree, and took a deep breath, opened his mouth, and a torrent of fire erupted from his mouth. Growing bigger, and bigger as it drew farther away from, Jaune. A huge cloud of fire engulfed the tree, lighting it ablaze in seconds. Jaune held his flame for a few seconds, until he stopped admiring his handy work in a stunned, but an oddly thrilled feeling.

Yang: Whoa… That was intense…

Blake: That trees still green; ‘green’ trees are harder to burn, and yet this ones going up in smoke…

Ruby: You think we should have done this inside?

Pyrrha: Well, the fire alarms would have been triggered because of all the smoke so…?

Nora: Yes. Burn. Burn the trees, burn the city, burn the world… BURN…

Ren: Okay, semblance time for you.

As, Ren said that he channeled his semblance into, Nora, removing her maniacal smile as she fantasied about the world being engulfed in flame. Ren, then turned to, Weiss giving her a pointed look.

Ren: Weiss?

Weiss: Huw, what?

Ren: The fire?

Weiss: Oh yes, the fire!

With a few flicks of her wrist a glyph appeared above the tree, before dumping gallons of water atop the tree, instantly putting the fire out leaving them to watch a cloud of steam rise up from the trees charred remains.

Jaune: Whoa… Did I do that…?

Oobaleck: That is quite impressive; Your ability to produce a controlled jet of fire is akin to a flamethrower. Though naturally produced in your body it behaves like most like natural fuels used in modern flamethrowers. While testing your abilities we have determined that you can control it like a blow torch, with same fine percussion, and intensity required to melt metal plates. Here when you ‘let loose’ the flame will burn at a high heat, a high rate of intensity, and seemingly sticks to the target’s surface. Even though you were breathing fire for a few moments, you managed to go a few cm’s deep into the wood. This is quite the impressive natural weapon you posse, Mr. Arc.

Jaune: And, deadly… I should probably refrain from using this in training bouts, and matches.

Oobaleck: I agree; While running some tests on human, or faunas opponents would be advisable to understand the extents of your fire’s effects. I will ask you to refrain from doing so, because of the unknown potential affects of said fire.

Weiss: Wouldn’t, Jaune’s fire behave like the, Fire Dust I use in training matches?

Oobaleck: The effects of, Mr. Arc’s fire is similar, but acts differently to the effects of your, Dust, Ms. Schnee.

Weiss: How so?

Oobaleck: While you’re aura would act as a protective blanket preventing the fire from burning you, the fire will slowly be chipped away as you are bathed in fire. You therefore could easily avoid your aura from braking by moving out of the fire. However, even if it’s only a glancing blast of, Mr. Arc’s fire, it would not only take off a substantial chunk of your aura. What’s worse, the fire would stick to you until it is set out.

Yang: Meaning if my aura broke, and he bathed me in his fire, it would still be on me, then I would get set on fire?!

Oobaleck: Correct. The results of which would be quite… severe.

Pyrrha: Uhh… Save the fire for the, Grimm then, Jaune.

Jaune: Will the fire go out with the, Grimm though?

Blake: You will have to test that out, Jaune.

Jaune: Should I?

Ruby: Carry some, Water Dust on you incase there’s a fire.

Jaune: That could work, so long as I don’t eat them when I get thirsty again.

Weiss: Wait, did you say you eat dust?

Oobaleck: On to the next test! Mr. Arc, I want you to breath fire until you run out!

Jaune: Testing my capacity?

Oobaleck: Exactly! Begin when you are ready, Mr. Arc.

Jaune: Okay…

Jaune opened his mouth again, and a torrent of fire erupted from his his mouth settling the tree ablaze in seconds.

The others watched in stunned amazement as his fire burrowed deeper into the tree, creating a hole of fire from the shear ferocity of the fire.

Yang: Okay… I think the passing glance would incinerate you.

Blake: Least it would be quick.

Pyrrha: I don’t think that’s a comforting thought.

Nora: BURN!

Ruby: Uhh… Ren, she’s doing it again…

Ren: On it.

Weiss: Is he opening his mouth wider?

Pyrrha: Yeah, I can see his fangs.

Jaune’s mouth had indeed widened, and his fangs popping upward as the force that he was breathing fire seemed to intensify. Causing the fire to burn hotter, and harder, reducing the tree to ashes in seconds.

Pyrrha: Hmm… His stance is becoming more rigid, and he seems to be flexing his muscles to maintain his posture.

Yang: Not to mention his flame is growing stronger since he started doing that.

Blake: How intense is his flame going to get…?

Nora: Oh cool! Jaune’s hair is glowing!

Pyrrha: Wait, what?!

As, Jaune’s fire breath was intensifying in it’s rampant destruction, his hair started to glow to a golden white hue that shined like a flashlight in the darkness. They watched that while his hair started to glow brighter, the blue flames erupting from his mouth started to narrow in its wide berth, but strengthen even more in its intensity until…

A narrow beam of golden white fire erupted from his mouth, blasting through a dozen trees within fractions of a second. They watched in what could only be stunned horror as, Jaune’s head moved side to side, cutting a large swath of the forest in seconds.

Jaune continue to breath fire until his head suddenly shot up, and his mouth snapped shut. His fire was extinguished as steam seeming rising out from his mouth as his lips devolved into a deep snarl. The glow of his hair slowly faded as a deep guttural growl echoed deep from within his mouth as he servied the destruction he wrought upon the forest.

Jaune: Haaa…

Jaune: …

Jaune: Well… Ain’t that something?

Jaune turned to look at his friends, teammates, and teachers, all of whom seemed to look on in stunned horror at the raw destruction, Jaune had wrought upon a whole forest in a matter of seconds. Even, Dr. Oobaleck looked on in shear shock for a few minutes before he managed to collect himself, and continue on with the test.

Oobaleck: That was quite… Impressive, Mr. Arc, I did not expect your fire to… evolve as it did, and cause such rampant destruction within a few seconds.

Jaune: That’s putting it lightly…

Oobaleck: Indeed. Stay where you are, Mr. Arc, I need to add additional tests considering these new developments. Ms. Rose would you be so kind to measure the distance from, Mr. Arc to the end of his beam of fire? Ms. Rose?

Ruby, just like everyone else couldn’t help but stare on dumbstruck at the shear chaos, Jaune had inflicted on the forest.

Oobaleck: Ms. Rose!

Ruby: Huw?! What? Yes?!

Oobaleck: Could you measure the distance from, Mr. Arc to the end of the blast radius?

Ruby: Oh yeah, sure, on it!

Ruby placed the beacon at, Jaune’s feet, before exploding into a cloud of rose petals darting to the end. She was gone for nearly two minutes before, Ruby darted back with her head covered in a sheen of sweat.

Ruby: Whoa… It’s really hot over there…

Oobaleck: That is to be expected; The shear amount of damage, and the speed of which he did so shows the shear amount of heat was capable of producing. Now then; What was the measured distance you acquired, Ms. Rose?

Ruby: It was… 1.3 kms.

Jaune: Seriously?!

Ruby: Yeah… I checked it twice just to be sure.

Jaune: Okay, no letting lose with my fire then.

Weiss: Yeah, I think that would be a good I…? Hey… Have your horns grown bigger?

Jaune: Huw?

Jaune’s hands reached up to his head, and touched the bumps where his horns were only to feel two long bone’s extruding from the top of his head. They were two inches long, and one, and a half inches wide. They curved along the top of his head before moving upward to a peak of a crown at the end.

Jaune: Okay… That is an unexpected development… Do they… do they look good?

Blake: They look… great really.

Ruby: Yeah! They’re white with golden tips.

Pyrrha: It looks like you’re growing a crown.

Jaune: A crown? A natural crown… Sounds cool.

Oobaleck: And, yet they have grown at such an exceptional rate. It should have taken at least a month for them to reach this stage in their development. Perhaps it was due to the serge of power you were displaying during your blast.

Ren: Perhaps it was happening while his hair was glowing.

Jaune: My hair was glowing?

Pyrrha: A bright white! It was quite pretty really…

Jaune: Huw… We’ll have to check the film later then.

Oobaleck: Indeed we will. But, we are not done yet! We still have one more test left to do!

Jaune: We have more test to complete?! What’s left?

Oobaleck: To test your capacity to withstand fire.

Jaune: My capacity to do what?!

Oobaleck: Ms. Schnee, at your nearest convenience.

Weiss: Sorry, Jaune. But, it has to be done.

Weiss spun the revolver on her weapon as she activated the fire dust, then she pointed at, Jaune and a glyph appeared under his feet, and his eyes went wide in shock, and fear. He held out his hand as panic flooded his face.

Jaune: NONONONONO WAIT!

An exsplosion of fire erupted underneath, Jaune burning the ground beneath his feet. The blast last only half a minute, but the flame burned at a such a high temperature that when it stopped they were faced with three very prominent facts:

1: Jaune was indeed fire proof.

2: Jaune was absolutely furious.

And, 3: He was naked.

Ruby: EEP?!!

Ren: Uh oh…

Weiss: Ahh! Put that away!

Blake: Holy hell…

Nora: Hehe! Told you he had a zweihänder~!

Yang: Damn!!! You had that inside you?!

Pyrrha: Ha! Wait until you see it when it’s hard~!

Oobaleck: Impressive, Mr. Arc! You are capable of withstanding several hundred degrees! It may have only been a few seconds, but I hypothesize you could endure for several minutes, maybe even our since the fire had no affects upon your body!

Jaune: That’s… Nice…?!

Weiss: I-I-I’m so sorry, J-Jaune I didn’t mean to… Uhh…?! H-Help?!

Jaune snarled as a deep growl escaped his lips, he was furious, absolutely furious. He reached down and grabbed the chest piece, the straps burning off in the intense heat with the rest of his clothes. With this one piece from his armour, he coupd at least give himself a sense of dignity as he stared them down.

Yang: Uhhh… J-Jaune… E-Everything okay…?

Jaune: You ever… Any of you! Ever do that to me again; I will burn you… Okay…?

Ruby: N-Noted!

Weiss: S-Sorry, I just… Uhh…?!

Jaune: Now if you’ll excuse me… I need to… Redress myself… When my armour cooled, can you bring it to my room?

Nora: Can do fearless leader!

Jaune: Thank you!

Pyrrha: I-I-I’ll come with you, Jaune!

And, with that, the two members of, Team JNPR, leaving the others to deal with the aftermath of the tests. The other were left standing their many of the females of the group with a deep blush across their faces. For all, but one however; for, Dr. Oobaleck was having the time of his life with all the new found information he had gathered on, Jaune.

Oobaleck: Well, that was a resounding success! Wouldn’t you say so students? Students?

Oh wow… I said I was going to try and post here more often and tell my theories but I completely forgot to… anyways, is it just me or am being delusional?

And I don’t know if I have talked about this on here before but does anyone notice how Weiss Nevermore summon is possibly greatly connected to Ruby and Weiss relationship?

Like… if you think about it for a moment and just analyze what the Nevermore possibly symbolize/represents (as a great deal of Weiss summons are allusions to something or share some sort of connection or mean something), you sort of just notice that Nevermore is practically directly linked to Ruby and Weiss relationship

(Which makes sense given that Weiss wasn’t really the one to have killed the Nevermore… it was Ruby who cut off its head)

And the way this Nevermore summon connects to Ruby and Weiss relationship symbolically is possibly through it representing Trust, belief, connection, understanding and Freedom (possibly)

(Which again, makes sense for the Freedom part due to how birds are symbolically used to represent freedom)

But the thing that made me think this and made me sort of notice this connection is when the Nevermore is first killed and the slow gradual attempts by Weiss at summoning the Nevermore until her first actual summoning against CC (also some stuff about what Winter said about summoning/the Schnee family semblance back in V3)

And the reasons these make me think of this… well, starting off with the Nevermore being killed

This part is rather simple since It’s the beginning piece of what creates and gives way for Weiss to be able to summon the Nevermore

In the beginning of the finale fight of the Emerald forest arc against both the Nevermore and the Scorpion (brain fart, forgot its name), both Ruby and Weiss sort of come to a small mutual understanding about each other and both chooses to accept and trust in the other

When Ruby comes up with a plan to kill the Nevermore, a plan that Weiss chooses to trust in and chooses to believe in Ruby (and Ruby chooses to trust in and believe in Weiss as well) being able to kill the Nevermore

And this belief in Ruby is quite easily proven true

Now moving on to the bit about Weiss attempts to summon the Nevermore till she truly does in the finale of V10

And before I fully go into depth on it, I would like to say some stuff about how during the atlas arc… Ruby and Weiss slowly got more and more distant from each other due to being too busy, having issues with some burdens, or possibly some miscommunication

And this is important because this is slightly reflected in Weiss first attempt to Summon the Nevermore in order to try and save Ruby… but yet she fails due to not being quick enough in summoning the Nevermore (and partially because of a Grimm attacking her before she could summon), because her connection and sort of understanding about Ruby has sort of… fades a bit due to distance

But this slightly changes come V9, after RWBY reunites

With how Weiss comes to learn and understand a bit about Ruby’s current emotional state and tries her best to help her a bit by trying to talk to her and get her to open up… but fails as Ruby doesn’t want to talk right now and chooses to focus on the task at hand

Something important to note is how Weiss not only understands that Ruby is hurting and something is bothering her… but Weiss also partially misunderstands when Ruby walks away when Weiss is trying to talk to her about Penny… that Ruby wants to be left alone for now and wants to get things handled first before she opens up

And Weiss (believing in that little misunderstanding since Ruby does want someone to support her or talk to her and help her) chooses to trust and believe that Ruby will talk to her and open up to her about what’s hurting her and will rely on her as well as coming to accept that Ruby needs some time

Leading to Weiss being able to almost fully summon the Nevermore but only being to summon the wings and use the wings

But not yet being able to manifest it yet

Until Ruby breaks and Weiss comes to understand and fully realize what was wrong with Ruby and what she needed most

Until the group arrives at Tree statue Ruby and Weiss comes to understand, trust and believe and accept that whoever or whatever comes out of that statue, will still be Ruby Rose

That whoever Ruby chooses to be and comes out as… Will always be Weiss’s partner, leader, and best friend to her

Which once Ruby comes back and once again… proves that belief true

Weiss is fully able to summon and conjure up the Nevermore to help in the fight against CC

But who knows… I could just be coming up with this is or looking a bit too deep… but what are all of you folks thoughts?

Also, I didn’t really get into the “Freedom” part about the whole Nevermore thing and might just make a part two to fully explore it

But to simplify it just to put it in here

The Nevermore represents Freedom because through Acceptance and Understanding, through trust and believing in one another

Ruby and Weiss manages to come together and learn to be free together

Free to choose who they want to become and who they wish to be

Free to follow their own path and define their own name

Free to find joy and love wherever it may be… to be free to find comfort and warmth in friends, family, and partner quite special

But again… what are your thoughts on it

Prof. Schnee AU Concept

To be clear this isn't the only Au/ comic I'll put the model in but it is the one that comes to mind for me most often.

All of team RWBY are born into the previous generation. Weiss along with her brother Whitley secured and manage the SDC. Though in truth Whitley takes care of most of the actual work. Though she was far from dull she did have to admit that Whitley was solely groomed to manage the company while her time was decided between it and her combat training.

Weiss herself still had power and plenty of a say but her Huntress duties took priority... And obligations as a teacher as well, yes. She was a instructor at Beacon. Helping to groom the next generation into respectable Hunters.

Mostly she was pleaded into it by her partner Ruby but still she took her job seriously.

Which was more then she could say for the rest of her team! All three of them off gallivanting across Remnant taking missions. Honestly sometimes they could be such a headache. But she supposed Ozpin had sent them all on those missions...

Regardless she was determined to perform no less admirably this year then any other. And considering that Pyrrha Nikos would be entering this year she believed it would be a very worthwhile year given her skill.

But there was always room for surprises like miss Valkyrie, who was frankly a Yang level ridiculous powerhouse.

Yes, this year would've been a valuable one even if those were the only two of note... But they weren't. No, the third would be...

"Please Go Out With Me!"

Would be Jaune Arc, a paradoxically lacking student and yet one worth her admiration. He was a special case like Blake had been according to Ozpin. A boy who secured counterfeit transcripts to earn a chance to try out Initiation. Though whereas her teams resident Faunus had been a member of the White Fang mister Arc had been a civilian out in one of Remnant's frontier villages. A simple boy with some dreams of heroics and knighthood.

He was actually like her partner Ruby in several ways but with a father who denied his dreams instead of supporting them like Ruby had... That, that was something she could relate to, could sympathize with and it was not all.

He wanted to live up to his family's name, to bring honor to it, to be anything to stop being the one to be protected but to protect others Instead. He was many things, foolish, naïve and certainly stubborn… But he was brave. What else could you call a boy who entered the Emerald Forest prepared to face monsters but courageous.

Jaune Arc had a long way to go, had a tough road ahead of him, if she’d thought catching Ruby up on their studies back in the day was hard this would be a true trial. But, but she wanted him to succeed, she wasn’t the same girl she’d been back in the day, who viewed people so callously, so superficially. She saw how much Jaune wanted this, how willing he was to put his life on the line for complete strangers as he fought the Death Stalker.

Apparently he wasn’t the most studious student but she never had issues, he may have lacked proper knowledge of Dust in her class but he was always quick to learn and put in the effort. Offering to help however he could.

Then he was being bullied, and then he stopped it, she knew how, she saw the recordings, saw Winchester Threaten him with blackmail. Saw her student being used like a lackey and distant from his team… And then she saw him refuse to follow Cardin’s order when it affected someone else. And then witnessed him save said tormentor when his teammates had ran.

Jaune Arc just like her partner embodied what it meant to be a Huntsman, he just needed some help on the way… And then he asked her out.

Flustered, nervous, clearly embarrassed, it was a sight she wasn’t used to, every man and woman who courted her had done so with annoying confidence in their status or family ties, had saw her as a particularly beneficial tool to use or trophy to own or worst of all… A knot on the metaphorical belt.

But Jaune, despite the way he entered Beacon was a rather earnest man, which was why she would do this in the kindest but also most direct way possible. Because she remembered being rejected as well. And wanted him to suffer as little as possible.

"Jaune, I'm your teacher..." He looked sad but accepting.

"R-right... I'm sorry I know it was wrong t-"

"That's why I don't want you going around and telling anyone." She blinked that the words she said it seeming to finally catch up with her brain her... Wait? That wasn't what she was supposed to say! Jaune seemed to be under the same impression as her thoughts as he spoke with a dumbfounded look on his precious youthful face.

"Really!" Yes Really!? What was she doing accepting his confession, but once more before her conscious could interrupt she parted her lips again.

"Though it isn't against the rules that Beacon upholds it is heavily frowned upon Jaune." Damn her for studying said rules! No! Stop Looking At His Absolutely Beamimg Smile This Instant! Just Because He's A Cute Boy Doesn't Mean We Could Throw Caution To The Wind.

Honestly she couldn't believe she said yes... Moreso that she felt so, so damn giddy about it! Like she was a girl back in her Beacon Days in her first relationship... Okay so technically she was a girl/ woman at Beacon and this was her first relationship but that was beside the point...

She was his teacher and this was... Well, no it wasn't illegal given that Jaune upon passing Initiation was by all legal means a adult under Remnant's Huntsman regulations... But it was still unprofessional! She'd never do anything others could bring into question... Anymore.

Like going out and taking on International criminals, known terrorists cells and preforming vigilante activities while a student.

But all that was besides the point and in the past! She wouldn't play with this boy's heart! She'd do the proper thing and brea-

"Jaune, I hope you understand that I'm not some trollope to be played with I expect you to take this seriously." NO!!! She Did Not Mean That! Shut Up Subconscious!

And oh dear now he was shooting her a very determined, gaze that made her heart skip a beat.

"Of course not! I'm serious about you miss Schnee!" Oh dear he was closing the distance, and being so assertive... Was, was he always so tall...

We probably won't get a clear answer, but I want to see why Ozpin let Jaune through. Their is no way he didn't catch the fake documents. He had to know Jaune was full of it, but he let him through. I guess he saw potential in Jaune, but it feels like theirs more to it. I know their isn't anything big like some people think, but it just feels to easy to say 'he has potential' to me.

Possibly, but let's try to remember that this is Ozpin, the guy who let Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury into his school to attend classes and participate in the Vytal Tournament. I don't think he was looking very hard at transcripts, especially if there's a potential voucher or a recommendation that be forged or coerced.

Jaune admitted to getting in on fake transcripts. The big question is "Who gave him them?" But not a lot of people asked, "Who looked over them and said, 'Seems legit'." Whoever forged the documents knew what would be overlooked. As if they were a former huntsman, or perhaps a genius criminal mastermind. Ah, but that's fanfic territory. Back to the main topic.

Did Ozpin see potential in Jaune? According to After the Fall, there were cameras all over the Emerald Forest for other students to watch the first year initiation. Based on this, Ozpin had a clear view of everything Jaune was doing. I think THIS is where he saw Jaune's potential and allowed him to continue to act as leader, despite his poor grades. Meanwhile, Ozpin has been keeping his eyes on Team RWBY because Silver Eyes.

So, did Ozpin see potential in Jaune? Maybe. Do I think Ozpin okayed the transcripts? No. And if he did, then he wasn't really paying attention, much like when students came in with forged documents from good ol Haven Academy.

Final Thoughts on RWBY - Jaune and Pyrrha

Let's be 100% honest with ourself. Pyrrha is Hermione, and Jaune is Ron Weasley.

Hermione was created to show us how magic works. Ron was created to show us how magic does not work. The same holds true with Pyrrha and Jaune. And, in the process, it turns out that Pyrrha is one of the only people in the setting that actually knows how Aura works. Most Aura users seem to learn how to turn it on. They then use it without thinking about. Ruby and Nora learn to use it to move their giant weapons, but seem completely ignorant to the fact that they can... use it to attack people without their weapons.

Yang uses it for brute strength,

Which we see no one else doing.

Now, for Jaune and Pyrrha's place in the story. A lot of people talk about who Jaune, but Jaune isn't.

Ruby isn't the protagonist. RWBY is. And because of this, JNPR is the deuteragonist. By Volume 4, JNR got bumped up to full heroes in their own right.

The Ship of Theseus, and all that.

Wait, what happened to Pyrrha? Well, she's too good. The simple fact is that if Pyrrha has been alive, she would have solved most of the problems on her own. Even the social problems, and all of the main characters love Pyrrha so much that her disapproval would probably stop most of the post-Haven bullshit. Seriously, she probably couldn't have talked Ironwood into unclenching his iron fist.

She had to die.

She had to die against an enemy the rest of the main cast could not beat.

She had to die against an enemy that cheats at the fight.

As for Jaune? Well, he's the only character the legitimately grows throughout the story. Everyone else keeps falling back into their old sins. This is because Jaune HAS to grow, because without Pyrrha, he literally would not have survived the landing into the Emerald Forest.

He's also the only person in the entire story that is actually trying to stop all of the idiotic bullshit that CRWBY was intent to force upon them. Ladybug terrorists, Yang mewling at the absence of her abusive girlfriend, Atlas literally falling to the ground.

Hell, his absence was so impactful that Ruby and Weiss had nervous breakdowns.

Let's be honest, though, seeing the Rusted Knight was almost as impactful as seeing adult Enzo Matrix. The Paper Pleasers were also delightful. Weiss finally pulled the stick out of her ass, and found herself strangely happy about it. And then what happened? Ruby unloads on Jaune.

Oh, dear God, I made the mistake of skimming through Vol 9 to see if Ruby learns to eschew her protagonist-centred morality. Instead, Ruby learned the important lesson that she's perfect the way she is, and the right path for the future is the path of selfishness.

And the black-washed Alice in Wonderland robbed us of a future Alice Huntress. She could fight with a flamingo croquet mallet/grenade launcher! Nora would love that!

Moving on. Jaune's place in RWBY is not being good enough. And that's what fans want to see. It's easy to save the world if you have showy teleportation powers, and can do a pirouette with a sniper rifle/scythe as you behead Grimm, but having fear you have to overcome, prudence to stop you from entering fights you cannot overcome, and to have to learn how Aura works, rather than just having it work for you, adds conflict. It keeps the story interesting. It keeps you invested.

There's the reason why the man who named The Hero's Journey later called i the Monomyth, because pretty much every culture on Holy Terra has a similar story.

But, luckily for us, CRWBY kept forgetting he existed, so he was allowed to actually develop properly as a character.

An for Pyrrha? She's literally and figuratively an angel. She's literally and figuratively too good for this world.

And I love how Ruby acts like she was betrayed by Atlas, when she literally joined a terrorist group to stop Atlas from rebuilding important infrastructure.

Notion: the Ever After *is* the Crown of Choice, and Team RWBY (but especially Ruby) used its power in choosing themselves while they were there.

Maybe CC was some kind of corruption of the relic's avatar?

the crown's vault is hidden here:

ozpin and his obsession with symbols gives the game away from the beginning; beacon's initiation is an allegorical re-enactment of ozma's mandate:

"it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well"—but partnership is based on "the first person you make eye contact with after landing." that imitates ozma's form of reincarnation. (he isn't able to talk to oscar until oscar makes eye contact with his own reflection, and he doesn't get to choose "the souls with which he [is] paired.")

"you will meet opposition along the way; do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die." the grimm in these woods are a stand-in for salem. why would ozpin warn the kids not to hesitate to destroy grimm? because he's remembering how he hesitated regarding salem.

"you will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene." like the god of light watches humankind without intervention while ozma tries to fulfill his task.

the abandoned temple is a metaphor for remnant itself—a godless world abandoned by its divine creators because humanity rejected the gods.

in the abandoned temple are "several relics," and each pair is to "choose one and return to the top of the cliff," where they will be judged—"we will regard that item, and your standing, and grade you appropriately."

<- i wonder where he hid the relic of choice!

moreover, the sheer number of grimm in the forest is alarming—and unusual. there's several ursai, a huge pack of beowolves, a king taijitu, a deathstalker, and a nevermore; in after the fall CFVY get driven to the ruins and then surrounded by large numbers of grimm. contrast RNJR's trek across anima (qrow picking off grimm one or two at a time, long stretches of narrative in between serious encounters) or the uneventful journey from brunswick farm to argus, or the menagerie arc and its complete lack of grimm. or even forever fall forest, with its lone ursa.

the emerald forest is comparable to mountain glenn in terms of grimm density, without the wyvern or the criminal enterprise to draw them to the area. why are there so many grimm in the forest?

the grimm are drawn to the relics. surrounded by population centers, that attraction might be lost in the noise, but if ozpin planted a relic in a vault in the wilderness…? :)

as to the ever after, the cat's domain is knowledge and i'd argue that it's jabber who's associated with choice: he symbolizes the discovery of free will as much as he does the creation of death, in that the brothers made him to fulfill a specific purpose and he became something they did not expect or approve and could not get back under control, and it was at this point that the brothers split between choice-as-duty vs choice-as-freedom which is the foundation of their ideological disagreement.

my wildest and most tenuous guess (i wouldn't even call it a theory because it's largely just vibes-based) is that the spirit in the crown is. prometheus. to wrap everything with salem and cinder and the divine rebellion theme up in a tidy "stole-fire-from-gods" bow

my more grounded theory is that the crown's true power is something akin to the ozian golden cap, which 1. would explain why ozpin is so particularly afraid of salem getting THAT one, and 2. dovetails neatly with the god of light's understanding of choice as a dichotomy between obedience or defiance. the flying monkeys are enslaved by the golden cap and bound to obey any command given by the cap's wearer, up to three times. the relic of choice is a crown, an object that connotes absolute authority. if jinn can answer any question and ambrosius can create anything given the instructions for how to do so, then what is the spirit in the crown bound to do?
