Volume 38 is quite an interesting volume, and its cover is more like a romantic novel cover. Kishi gives it an orange sky background. Orange it is a warm and vibrant color that can help to convey excitement, action, attraction, fascination and energy. Orange color commonly used in movie posters because these colors can evoke feelings of warmth, passion, which are ideal for certain genres such as action or romance. Orange represents desire, passion, and love. And Orange symbolizes love and happiness.

In this volume we see naruto's longing for Sasuke. Naruto is very happy or satisfied knowing that his chakra nature matches Sasuke's fire type. He developed Rasen-Shuriken by continuously keeping Sasuke in his mind.

After being hospitalized due to the after-effects of using the Rasenshuriken, he and Sakura are alone here, this is his best chance to flirt with her, but he reverts back to Sasuke again. He is not worried about the consequences of using Rasenshuriken. Instead he emphasizes about how they're getting closer to Sasuke and is very happy about it.

In the previous scenario, Naruto was brainrotting about Sasuke, and when sai & sakura approached him he lied that he was devising a date with Sakura. If you say he lied because he didn't want to worry her about Sasuke…if that's the problem, then he shouldn't lie about dating her when he's thinking about another boy. He could have said, "I was just thinking about Sasuke…how to save him…blah blah blah…" Kishimoto could have easily done something like this, but he spent an entire page showing that Naruto lied about thinking about a date with a girl, but the fact is that he was thinking about a boy this whole time. To them, they don't know what's on his mind... but to the readers, it gives a hint that he's gay but closeted (trying to hiding it from others). His lying makes it more ambiguous and more obvious that he loves Sasuke...but not in a brotherly or friendly way.

While eating ramen with his teammates at Ichiraku, Naruto suddenly looked unhappy, quiet, depressed, and soulless.

Sasuke is what makes Naruto so determined. He developed the Rasenshuriken to save Sasuke from Orochimaru. He doesn't mind getting seriously injured while using his jutsu as long as he gets to closer to Sasuke and able to rescue him. So, when it comes to Sasuke, Naruto won't listen to anyone's advice to the contrary, no matter who gives it and how well-intentioned. That's why he suddenly shut Kakashi up with a smile.

Come to think of it, it wasn't the first time he shut others down when the subject was about Sasuke. Even though he was wrapped in bandages, his irritation was visible in his eyes. He doesn't care what happens to him, all that matters to him is Sasuke, which is why he doesn't like it when others try to get in between him and Sasuke or trying to stop him.

When Sasuke sees the bridge, he remembers Naruto and reacts to it with a calm gentle smile. While Sasuke is in his world of nostalgia he doesn't even hear Suigetsu talking to him.

Although the two do not interacting, yet, they are thinking about each other in this volume.

im actually rewriting the canon in my own story and now that you mention it i think i want Naruto to become a chunin

you say in your au he's gonna be too busy to re-take the chunin exams but is there a point where he actually could have?

i've never seen the Naruto (the anime) before and i started watching it recently i got all the way to ep 143 of shppuden with the movies that came out in order

i don't know a whole lot about the war im watching Sasuke fight the rap jinchuriki guy so it would help me out if there is some point you think he could actually get to become a chunin cause im rewriting stuff and i want itachi and Sasuke to come home sooner i know itachi doesn't live but we are playing pretend right now so i want him and Sasuke to come home

just my question whole question of this ask:

is there a point where he actually could have?

There are two main "moments" that come to mind... First during the two years he was with Jiraiya, he could have taken the exam somehow, finding a team for him and even doing it for training would be possible for Jiraiya. I think 🤔

And then, since shippuden takes at least one year, Tsunade herself could have arranged for Naruto to take one of the exams at some point before the Pein attack. Or even after it, she could just promote him! I think that would be the most logic and easy way to fit in the "schedule".

Now stopping to think of other moments... there's the small break he takes to develop the rasen shuriken, if the timing is right, the exam could happen while he's on it and team 10 is having their revenge mission - he still arrives right on time BUT this time wearing his chunin jacket!

Or before Sai joins the team and they leave with Yamato. Insert a small arc after he returns from the sand village and say "We can't send a genin on missions alongside an ANBU/jonin. Go take the exam!" - even adding the excuse that Jiraiya returned with him on time for the exam, but he almost missed it because of the kazekage rescue.

At the start of the war arc (I think this is a spoiler?) There's a moment Naruto goes on a special training trip, but instead they could motivate him by saying it's a special chunin exam for him (since he doesn't have a genin team), and actually evaluate him or already be planning to promote him anyway - bc he is clearly above chunin level by now come ON.

Armed with his power pole, which he barely uses, Goku sees combat less as a struggle for survival and more as a test of one's abilities. He has even shown great interest in teaching other students, though it should be noted the cafeteria budget has suffered most from his appetite, rivaled only by his partner.

Garp assured Luffy was trained properly enough to attend Beacon, though his academic scores were among the lowest Beacon has ever seen. Pairing this with his near idolization of noted criminals, faculty were concerned with Luffy's attendance as well.

Luffy, however, has proven to be an effective combatant against all manner of foes. Many Grimm were eliminated, including high level threats such as the Beringel were easily disposed of. When asked where he learned to fight, he explained his brothers helped him after he ate a weird fruit. When asked to elaborate, he refused until we served him "more meat".

Due to his lack of attendance at a beginner school, Ichigo struggled for certifications while handling odd-jobs around his town.

Ichigo's combat skill is impressive, to say the least, and has shown great maturity for his age when compared to the other students. However, when pressed, he has been known to lose his cool and show just alike his peers he really is. When asked why he chose Beacon, he replied, "It was the closest one to home. To be honest, I don't really care which academy I go to. I'm not attending because I want to become a Huntsman, but because I have to."

According to Kishimoto, Kakashi is the ideal master for him compared to Jiraiya and Iruka.

Interestingly, I find many Naruto fans from Tumblr and Reddit disagree with him. Naruto fanboys on Reddit who is full of power scaling lover dudebros thought that Jiraiya is the ideal master because both Naruto and him are not “geniuses” and Jiraiya taught 2 jutsu to him, Summoning Jutsu and Rasengan, compared to Kakashi who just taught about developing Rasen Shuriken (offensive attack speaking). As for Naruto fans on Tumblr prefer Iruka because they generally saw Kakashi as apathetic and emotionless man, so they like Iruka who is more soft and considerate.

Not gonna say that they were wrong because ideal standard is different from person to person, but in Kishimoto’s case, he explicitly said that Kakashi is the ideal master to him because Kakashi is “A protecting Master who instead yelling at you, explain what went wrong and how to fix it. Someone who pushed his student forward instead of yelling him back to square 0”.

Meaning Kishimoto prefers this :

In the same interview, Kishimoto also said that he had a very stern and rude master image in his head, but he wants Kakashi to be a more laid back teacher, gave him kindness and woman-like speech pattern.

The “woman-like” speech pattern here I think is about how soft-spoken Kakashi is toward children. Compared to other males in Narutoverse, Kakashi has a very calm way to speak with kids and never shy about emotional conversation, like he told Haku about Zabuza’s feeling when they got Edo-Tensei-ed although Zabuza is still in the deep of “A shinobi must never show emotion” motto XD. In fact, I found this similarity between Kakashi and Inari’s conversation :

Nation: Inazuma - Her best skills are taijutsu; Sakura managed to use her Vision to apply elemental damage while punching and kicking the enemies; she could punch the air and Geo rocks would be projected towards the opponent. She is the childhood best friend of Naruto and Sasuke, and also the student of Kakashi Hatake, who taught her how to master her Vision. She split off the team for a year in order to train under the Great Sage Tsunade Senju, the descendant of the Great Hashirama Senju, and rejoined her old team after her powers became potent.

Elemental Skill: Lightning Clone Technique: Raikiri

Elemental Burst: Hidden Art: Chidori Beast - large area of damage, and this technique is created by having his sword dissolve into lightning energy into his hands, then slamming his palms into the ground, summoning a wolf-like figure that would run around, striking the enemy within the premises, before engulfing the opponent, creating a lot of Electro damage.

Nation: Inazuma - Kakashi became the teacher of Minato's son, Naruto after the young boy grew up and received his Vision along with his two childhood friends, Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha. He taught them fighting skills and how to use their Vision, and trained them in working together as a team to create lethal damage with their elemental reactions. His influence rubbed off on Sasuke the most since they both have Electro Visions, and the two of them rotating together would apply fatal Electro damage as a mono Electro team.

Hi! So Sasuke puts Kakashi above Sakura and way below Naruto. What about Kakashi? What is Sasuke's place in Kakashi's level of importance? In OG Naruto Sasuke is Kakashi's most important student but on Shippuden Kakashi didn't have much thought about Sasuke and on later arc Kakashi said that he will talk to Sasuke but then keep focusing on Obito. Obito is Kakashi's first focus is undeniable, but what is Sasuke's place in Kakashi's level of importance compared to Naruto and Sakura?

I already wrote about Sasuke's and Kakashi's 5 most important people in the linked posts. Neither Sasuke nor Kakashi were in each other's respective list... Meaning, They both have their own circle.

As for Sasuke's place in Kakashi's level of importance..... It is fairly equal among all of his students. No one is above Sasuke nor they are below him. There is no favoritism from Kakashi's side that I could point it out considering 700 chapters.

His thing is,

Care/Pay attention to one student at a time who needs the most.

During Chunin Exams, Sasuke's opponent is Gaara (a jinchurikki who is hell-bent on killing Sasuke + add the fact that S was suffering from Cursed Seal). Plus, Naruto already has a Sannin (Which was revealed in the Flashback later). And Sakura didn't qualify for the Chunin Exams' Third Round.

Hence Kakashi prioritized Sasuke.

During Rasen Shuriken training, his sole focus was on Naruto. Because he was becoming unstable due to Kurama's chakra. Plus, he specifically mentioned that such a training is possible only for Naruto due to vast chakra potential. Since, Sakura is a medical nin, he didn't pay attention to her.

Hence Kakashi prioritized Naruto.

During the War Arc, he practically didn't bother about Naruto or Sasuke due to their God Tier powers. But he saved Sakura many times during that time.

Hence Kakashi prioritized Sakura.

Plus, Add that time, his thoughts were full of Obito, Rin & Minato + Sakumo, on the verge of his death during the pain arc where he lumped Team 7 along with Konoha 9 members as the Future Generation.

All of these proves, Kakashi keeps all of his students at the same level. Nobody is speacial.

☕️ it's kinda sad how none of the konoha ladies get any signature elemental jutsus??? like i s2g almost all the lads get their chakra natures expressed in big moves like chidori, gokakyuu, rasen-shuriken etc, but the gals get mostly physical/utility attacks and it's weird imo xDD

Okay, have mixed feelings on this.

But like first, let's just get the fact that the girls of the squad are delegated to the healer position is kind of a sexist trope out of the way. Like, there is a reason why the girls are given mostly physical/utility attacks and it's because that's a gendered thing.

For ino and hinata, i can understand why did they didn't get signature elemental jutsus. Similar to Shikamaru and Choji and Neji, the basis of their battle style is their clan techniques; that by itself distinguishes them from most background characters, and as minor characters themselves, adding another unique spin to it would be unnecessary--as in, what would it add to the narrative? (Though, as far as I know, Hinata actually does get a somewhat distinct technique with the Twin Lion fists). So with them, I'm kind of okay with them not having a signature jutsu; by just increasing their own strength and proficiency, they make themselves unique to the cast. Considering we don't actually interact with ino's clan, her clan technique might as well function as a signature jutsu anyways (Hinata probably got the twin lions to make her distinctive from Neji, and maybe also her father). If that makes sense...

For the other girls though, I do agree that it sucks that they weren't allowed to form or learn signature jutsus. I know the story doesn't really bring in Tenten that often, but I think it would've been cool if she had been allowed something of her own to show how much she has grown as an individual; even thematic-wise, it probably could've added to how the younger generation surpasses and builds off the older gen. Even if it wasn't something elemental, than at least something that deals with sealing/space-time ninjutsu because that's what the story states she's good at and what she decides to focus on.

I get more annoyed with how Sakura isn't given that treatment though, considering how she's a major character. I'm not sure if this will make sense, but I'll try?

Her super strength sometimes does work as a flashy attack and makes her a distinct character from Konoha 11, but it's still technically just a copy of Tsunade's moveset. Naruto gets to evolve the rasengan into the rasen-shuriken; Sasuke expands upon the chidori to create different variations of it. But Sakura doesn't get that? She doesn't improve upon Tsunade's Creation Rebirth. In addition, Sakura still uses the same slug summon as Tsunade while Naruto and Sasuke receive a "new generation". Naruto and Sasuke show progression whereas it seems Sakura has remained stagnant :( I think it would've been so great if she was given that opportunity to put her own spin on the techniques she's been taught. I think that would've actually felt more thematically satisfying, because the entire point is that she too is part of the generation that surpasses the three sannin. You know?

Knowing that Naruto can use lava release, and knowing that he doesn't use it outside of armour or a rasen-shuriken makes me feel so robbed of the potential. And that he can use so many other chakra natures too, and he doesn't really get to. I understand having a base thing, working that up and getting really good at it, but I wish Naruto could move away from shadowclones, the Rasengan and Kurama just a little bit, and utilise the many abilities he could have. He can use magnet release, boil release and lava release, the five chakra natures and he doesn't get to use most of them. I guess that's wishful thinking, but either way, Naruto gets to use more jutsu now. I says so

I'm not putting him under the bus, but you are along with everyone else who was fighting in the war. Shikamaru outright stated everyone was exhausted their chakra and no one else, but the third could still fight. Your complaining about Hinata being so exhausted she collapses after fighting none stop for days. at that point most of alliance isn't doing much better then her and can't fight anymore.

Hinata fought in the war since day one even saved Neji.

She fills in for Neji after he collapses and unable to use his Byakugan anymore.

She saves Naruto not once, but twice, puts his shoulder back into place so he can launch his rasen shuriken. Convinced him not to give up when he is about to lose all hope.

She also lead the alliance to protect Naruto.

I won't deny that Naruto contributed the most to wars overall victory, but that doesn't change the fact Hinata fought almost none stop from the start of the war without rest and only collapsed near the end. She tripped over a rock cause she was exhausted from all the none stop fighting same as Naruto did you have no right to complain about it when both Hinata and Naruto only tripped cause they were exhausted and there is nothing wrong with that when they are fighting a war.
