#the promised neverland #tpn manga #tpn emma #tpn ray #rayemma #emma #ray #my edits #happy november 13th aka the day the kiddos crossed over to the human world and our fearless protagonist achieved her goal. #im so proud of her..& i didnt mean for this to turn into something so RE relatable but it just fits ya know? ray's been by her side the #entire journey so of course he would witness all her ups & downs. i dunno if he would indulge in poetry however but with all the #books in the GF & bunker library im sure he's at least come across his far share of poems over the years. so yeah. i sorta imagined him #writing all this down and sketching out his memories alongside it all. hopefully the panels convey that kind of look. who knows.

Like idk color theory or science or shit but THERES GOTTA BE A PATTERN HERE. why is red and blue sometimes so good, and sometimes red and green? I do not know.

One of the many unintentional, understated moments of dark humor in this series is this little bit after Ray’s changed into clothes that aren’t drenched in lighter fluid. His mind is such an utter mess he spent the whole time changing thinking, “okay, maybe Emma didn’t quite get what I was saying during my earlier speech because I was being a little bit too over the top. I’m sure if I explain more calmly why I need to and deserve to die, she’ll understand and agree with me.” (The little slump of his shoulders when he starts that second line, too. Granted, it takes a lot to undo years of such belief and self-loathing, but the resignation in his voice and body language is crushing.)

Her of all people. As if she didn’t just immediately dart out and save his match from hitting the floor without a single second of consideration spent on the damage it would do to her hands.

And her response is to slap him hard enough all the remaining lighter fluid in his hair flies off. 10/10, comedy gold, bawling my eyes out!

i don't understand how some people interpret norman and ray's relationship as like. this vaguely competitive thinly veiled rivalry for emma's heart. or even that theyre not friends at All and only tolerate eachother for her. like did we watch the same show??? i know our brains have been rotted by lame heteronormative 2/5 star romances but yall.

Ray did not spend six years planning an escape and literally staking his life on the escape of a guy he tolerated. i guess i understand how people can think theyre not Really friends like they are with Emma from the scene where Ray gets revealed to be the traitor. but Norman's initial thought to use Ray wasn't some plan he'd just been Waiting to use to get his rival out of the way, it was just logic. Norman relies on logic above all else as a default, which is why he needs Emma, but thats a whole other conversation. Anyways- if nothing else, the time between it getting revealed that Norman's getting shipped, and him Actually getting shipped shows just how Much they All care about eachother. Ray was willing to break his arm and get sick to save Norman, he abandoned all logic for their makeshift plan to save Norman. Not to mention Norman's little speech about how he couldn't bare to have either of them die in his place. oh yeah also all the grief when Norman realized what Ray planned to do to trigger the escape. it Is a little more subliminal in the anime though so i can get that being missed. i know i missed it the first time i watched it

#i have seen this much less this time round in the fandom thankfully. but it was Prominent back when i first read the manga #i have a lot of thoughts about this but im not that good with words #also the anime like. #the promised neverland #tpn manga #tpn ray #tpn emma #rayemma #ray #emma #my edits #you know when your love for a specific duo is so strong that you manage to create&finish something for them about six months in advance? yea #thats me. im completely serious. i had it done just in case there was a free day during REweek but i dont think it even happened on here? or #at all this year unless im blind. so today's the best day for this. & them. i love them both with all my whole heart & soul. dont let me #ramble about RE. ill never shush up. anyways.. didnt know exactly what to do for the last square. i guess i couldve used a panel from 181.5 #but i didnt use any of the extra chapters for any other of these edits so tossed the idea aside. the Identity cover works just as fine.

The little bow of reflection and smile Ray makes as he briefly soaks in the last morning Emma and Norman will be able to carry out their routine as usual knowing the horror they'll endure before night's end.

He knows they'd both prefer the harsh truth over a pretty lie, would hate to think about other siblings suffering the same fate as Conny, Hao, Sadie, Susan, and so many more before them if there was even the slightest chance of being able to do something about it. It's part of what he loves about them; where he had the tendency to give up after years of learned helplessness and self-loathing, they would resolutely say "no" and escape the system they had been born into.

(they are better, they are deserving, unlike him)

He loves them so much he can't help but let some of his fondness show on his face as he savors Emma's reaction to seeing him and Norman, because if that isn't so incredibly her, to love so effortlessly and uninhibited, to live so unabashedly authentic.

It's part of what got him through a life he cursed and part of why he has faith if anyone will be able to do this, it'll be them.
