I have a headcanon that Nancy eventually became fluent in ASL because Ace taught her (so she could communicate with Thom without having to have a translator), and after they're married and have kids, they use it to talk secretly. Like, their kids know some, but when they're young, they just know the basics. So, kind of like how a parent would spell something out to the other parent if the kid can't spell, Nancy and Ace sign to each other.
Nancy and Ace: *signing about putting them down for bed early because it's a holiday or special occasion, and they need to set up a surprise*
Kid: Stop it. I know you're talking about bedtime.
They'll do it in public, too. Why would Nancy shout across the aisle in a grocery store when she can just tell him to grab something while he gets the milk?
Nancy: *while you're over there, we need cheese.*
Ace: 👍
Or they'll be somewhere, like one of those parent-teacher things, but with activities and bingo? (My school used to do it, I think once a year, and I have no idea what it was called.) And they go because their kid/kids have a lot of friends, so it's another way for them to hang out. But Nancy and Ace don't necessarily like the other parents.
Nancy, fake laughing at something: *I'm so close to pretending kid is sick or something so we can leave.*
Ace, politely nodding along: *if this thing goes on any longer, I might help you.
The kids who are a little ways away: what are your parents doing?
Kid, who knows damn well what they're saying: idk, probably talking smack or something
I also like to think that sometimes Thom and Rebecca go to these school events, and Rebecca finds it hilarious that kid will mess with their friends about what Nancy and Ace are talking about, but Thom is just exasperated, because of course their kid would be as much trouble as they were.
Nancy, signing to Ace who's across the room: *did you remember to close that window we had open?*
Ace: *what, the one in the kitchen or the one upstairs?*
Kids friend: what are they saying?
Kid: they're debating whether to do their monthly sacrifice tonight or tomorrow.
Kids friend, who fully believes their Aunty Bess is a witch: haha *nervously sweats*
Thom: *Rebecca, they're doing it again.*
Rebecca: *cackling*
Nancy and/or Ace probably communicate with Nick like this around the holidays, too. I think it drives George crazy. (Bc damn right they find a way back together.)
Nick and Ace: *signing to each other*
Nick and George's kid: mommy, what are they talking about?
George, miffed: I don't freaking know.
Idk i just think this is a funny little hc about what their lives would be like.

For so long I have been a fool, thinking about all the amazing hero moments Thom could have when he learns about the supernatural. But Thom doesn't deserve one.
Rebecca on the other hand is totally the sort of mother who would stare down any supernatural nasty for her son (and the show has a big thing about mothers that we have yet to see pay off with Rebecca)

SA POVS >>> CE POVS
(This is not meant to be a contest and is instead, thematic journeys of the following):
Damocles (bk1) + Abira (bk2) -> Leah Weston
2 sides of the same coin of her being a change agent, deciding on the fact of sinborne rights
Refuses to conform to expectations & forbidden loves; specifically w/ abira - dodges marriage, gives up a position of power (throne, Leah's title)
literal mentors in how to be nobility, but still stand for justice - doesn't always work? but they are the ones that have her like "don't you dare settle"
still privileged as fuck, but they try to be chill about it
Rowland -> Mitchell
Defined by wishful thinking and unfortunate absence
literal progression in the sinborne fight (from rowland opening the cause by opening damocles' eyes to mitchell rightfully saying "fuck being patient")
actually sassy fuckers
Maeve -> Jane
need to emphasize in their upcoming scene the fact they connect on words and research and a love of scientific fact
Jane needs to learn to listen like Maeve does if she actually wants to be persuasive in the future
both privileged, who like fine art and wine and dresses, and yet hardworkers who see things others don't
George -> Malcolm
despite their ENTIRELY different temperaments, Mal is just as impulsive as George in SA & (more importantly) fed-up with the status quo
defined in weighty expectations and duty - and they actually live up to their responsibilities
Adelina -> Karyn
outsiders who decide to say 'fuck it, i'm going to act to make a difference' and take either revenge - or act to heal someone, both unexpectedly
in touch with their dark side & happy to be who they are
Marcus -> Geoffrey / Valeria
"somewhere between fuck you and i'd want to fuck you"
Garrett -> Frederick
literal "fuck it i'mma do what i want fuck who i want" attitude (and plot)
often spends the book in a way that ends up with them needing to earn redemption, show humility, etc
Jude -> Arthur
sinborne with One Specific Thing(tm) they care about (music, fine linens)
very, extremely prone to saying "fuck off" to all class distinctions despite their position that is somewhat half-and-half
Evelyn -> Ariadne
survival of self is a reason to betray someone important to them, actually
actual feminist (TM)
willing to bend the rules as long as, in the end, they get what they want
survivors of abuse
Rebecca -> Alec
the fact they are from the future is NOT the most interesting thing about them. their gigantic "you shouldn't know this" intelligence, IS.
literally they break the time continuum to be with who they love. repeatedly.
I HAVE EMOTION ABOUT THE FACT ALEC TAKES AFTER HER A LOT, OK.

Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors
Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?
What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.
Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.
Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!

I would love there to be an episode where each of the Drew Crew ends up becoming the embodiment of their parents' perfect child due to some mystical artefact. And for a little while, the various parents love their children living lives as dutiful, cautious, happy young people. But they pretty quickly realise that it is wrong and that they want their real children back. The parents have to work out a way to get them back before the effects become permanent (possibly with the addition of the added threat of there being some creature the Drew Crew need to be their normal selves to stop)

Nace Countdown to Christmas - Day 24
(From this post of relationship milestone prompts)
On AO3
going through tough times together
Nancy’s heart pounds the way it always does when she enters the main doors of the hospital. This place is tied to too many memories, most of them not so nice.
Muscle memory weaves her through the hallway to the ER waiting room, searching for a familiar head of ruffled sandy hair. She sees Thom first, looking numb, then the slump of Ace’s shoulders next to him, tension in his frame. Thom bumps his elbow into Ace’s at the sight of her, and Ace’s head shoots up, rising to his feet to pull her into an embrace.
Nancy can feel him trembling against her, his fingers fisting into the back of her coat, and she snakes her own shaking hand against the back of his neck, holding him there.
“Are you okay?” she whispers.
“Not great,” Ace answers honestly. “The kids?”
“Ryan’s watching them.” She palms Ace’s cheek when he pulls away, tracing her thumb lightly against the shadow under his eyes. “Any news? Are you hungry? Did you eat?”
“No news. And I’m not hungry.”
“Well you need something, at least. I’ll be right back.” She squeezes his fingers and turns on her heel, in search of the vending machine. Privately, she blinks back her own tears of fear and worry over Rebecca. This is the role she would be filling—fetching drinks and snacks and fluttering like a mother hen.
Nancy can’t lose another mom. She just can’t.
Water bottles and terrible instant coffee acquired, Nancy makes her way back, pressing the warm cups into Ace’s and Thom’s hands. She hands Ace her own cup as well to hold and digs through her bag in search of the granola bars and trail mix packets Ace is always stowing away in there, certain she wouldn’t eat without one. The corner of Ace’s mouth turns up a tiny bit when she pulls one out in triumph, and she counts it as a personal victory.
The waiting is the worst, she remembers, with nothing to do but let your worst fears run rampant in your mind. She settles in tightly next to Ace, arm to arm, and lays a comforting hand on his thigh. It isn’t long before his hand covers hers.
Finally relief comes, the call of “Family of Rebecca Hardy?” sending them all to their feet.
“She’s going to be just fine,” the nurse says with a smile. “We’re going to keep her overnight for observation and run some more tests tomorrow. I’ll let you know when we have her in a room.”
Ace clumsily translates for his father, then turns to Nancy, tears threatening to spill down his cheeks. She pulls him in for another hug, letting him hide his face in her hair. “It’s okay. She’s okay.”

Fun fact: as of July 2023, Ace and Nancy have been together for over three years.
They've already seen the sun rise over the Goreme National Park at Cappadocia. And they absolutely got drunk on local wine love as they watched the Parisian sunset at Pont Des Arts, with Ace reciting poetry in flawless French the whole time.
Ace was the cause of the Great Horseshoe Bay Sorbet Shortage and the reason local grocery stores had to up their orders. And Nancy was voted customer of the month by Horseshoe Baygels staff at least 12 times.
They visited Grant in his new city, had game nights with the crew, and went on road trips both for cases and just because. And while Rebecca taught Nancy secret Hardy family recipes, Ace went fishing with all the dads (if the mermaid attacked them once, who's to tell).
They babysat Leo for Connor and Lily and spoke about the family they would eventually build and the names Kate and Lucy.
Ace joined Nancy every single time she had to bail Ryan and Red out after the latter released some demon from an ancient relic and Nancy helped Ace study for his autopsy technician certificate.
They've argued about whose car to take to the weekly family dinners, what color to paint their living room, and how much is enough when it comes to donating blood.
Together they've worked for Nick's city council campaign, volunteered for all of Bess's events at #HistSo, and cheered George on as she graduated pre-law a few months ago. They've hosted Passover seders, Thanksgiving dinners, and Chanukah celebrations, and they've made a home together where everything is half Nancy, half Ace and altogether theirs.
They've been freakishly happy for the past three years; we merely need to catch up with them.

Debates on who the real love of Spidey's life is are so repetitive and incomplete. If you're gonna do it right, you gotta include all of em. And that's why I'm introducing...
The Amazing Spidey-Lover Mashup Spectacular!
There will be 4 rounds. After Round 1, I will pick the top 3 winners and put them aside. Round 2 will be backup, with everyone I couldn't fit in 1, including implied romances and ships. Round 3 will be the losers' chance at redemption, featuring whoever I couldn't fit in the other 2. Round 4 will be the finale, where we finally answer the question: who is Spidey's true love?

Some more thoughts…
Ghost girl was wearing a white chemise when she appeared to Ace…which feels very old-timey. Like, that is NOT a modern dress. So my feeling is that though her corpse was just found, it isn’t new. But maybe appeared “along the coast” (per Connor) supernaturally somehow. My theory is that she is an earlier incarnation of Nancy.
Her scarier version appears on fire, but also wet? And possibly even frozen? Its hard to tell from the flashes, but maybe part of why she doesn’t know who she is is because she is multiple people- multiple prior incarnations of Nancy who died in different ways throughout time.
It will be interesting to see if Nancy could communicate with this ghost too. Honestly I could see that happening in 4x11 when she appears at the Claw and Ace being jealous over it but if she is an earlier version(s) of Nancy, it would make sense that she could communicate with Ace (her soulmate) and Nancy (her current reincarnation).
I do think this will ultimately play out as a Nashua and Ghost were soulmates - and the lovers vigil originated with them- and their most recent incarnations are Nancy and Ace.
I also feel like this could be the first time their souls didn’t align. Like if reincarnations of Ace and Nancy have always been the sin eater and leftover good energy, why did it end up in Tristan this time?
India died in 1998. Nancy was born in 2000 and Ace was a senior when she was a sophomore. That means both Ace and Tristan would have been in-utero around the time India died. What if the sin eaters soul was supposed to reincarnate in Ace, but didn’t. It has to be someone “in horseshoe bay” but what if Ace’s parents weren’t in HSB when India died and the soul had to go somewhere else - and ended up in Tristan. 4x11 being a Hardy-centric episode has a lot of potential with this idea in mind. Are we about to find out they spent some time outside of HSB in 1998 while Rebecca was pregnant?? They’ve been teasing the Seder all season. Something is going to be discovered, I know it.
