At this point, Red has every reason to run a DNA test on Agnes. Being Katarina, his own history with the issue. Essentially, the VERY person who would gender-jump. "Tastes like spring, doesn't it?" Spring speaks to rebirth. "My daughter had to wait half her life to be reborn." The very woman who fabricated a DNA report, allowing Constantin to believe he was the father for 30 years.
The one who assumed Tom was the father. Who referred to Ressler as the second-string quarterback. The one who warned Liz at her wedding. “What makes you so sure you’re not wrong this time?” There for Agnes’ christening. The one who only realized Masha’s paternity while writing in her journal, as she spoke of the importance of giving birth to a girl.
Liz, who became a mother herself. “I am dead.” Died just as Katarina tried to commit suicide by drowning. Who literally committed suicide by changing her face, her very identity. And Liz...dying by warring against herself... no different than suicide. "She’s become someone I fail to recognize.” Red knowing she faked her death in season 3 just to actually die in his arms in season 8. Katarina being the son her father never had, and Liz intended to take over her criminal empire.
Katarina who told her own daughter, “What if I were to tell you that all the things you’ve come to believe about yourself are a lie?” Same thing in 8x22, Liz being told she was conceived as part of a lie. Red, who literally told Liz, “But a baby won’t fix what happened in the past.” Who said he saw Kate in Liz without even having to look. Who knew Liz hired a male interpreter, and could therefore imagine her as a male imposter.
Red, who knows the expression... If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. And the very person who put Liz in a horse stable. Red reading Pippi Longstocking, Pippi.. whose father didn’t drown. Handing Sue a pink fedora only to have Herbie say she looks just like him. Pinkie, the grandmother to Little Red. Now Agnes telling him she acted as a secret imposter.
A reason to run a DNA test, yeah. But with all that in mind, will he... or would he consider it all a coincidence? The Cyranoid is Red's biggest clue. Liz changing her face.

ok thing that i'm genuinely most upset by from the holidays is that my parents are obsessed with 'the blacklist' and my ma in particular loves reddington so i recommended they watch house during hiatus bc, you know, 🤝 mean genius vibes and an altogether better show, but they don't like it bc 'all the episodes are the same - everyone has a seizure' and my thinks house is annoying and like yes but that's the point and also you like reddington hello has there ever been more deeply annoying dialogue written for character in television history

not to the blacklist post on main after abandoning the show about three to four years ago but i know it's finally been laid to rest now so, as i have always had a soft spot for that snazzy old man, did we find out who raymond was in the end, was he liz's father (or was he in fact, a trans icon aka liz's mother/katarina??? did we get rederina) was dembe & agnes alright in the end? i'm assuming they killed red at the end of it all because i can't imagine it ending any other way then him just passing away quietly in a chair, the concierge of crime going out with a whimper instead of a bang.

Okay Coda, don't be upset with me because I do believe in lizzington 100%... but I've been seeing some very convincing rederina theories.
The thing is, I think each writer has yanked our (the viewers) attention multiple directions except maybe Bokenkamp. He seems lizzington deep down. Anyway, while rederina could be plausible, I can't reconcile the romantic insinuations and comments from Red and even from Liz......... and Aram, and Ressler, and the knowing and LOUD expressions from Samar with her quiet lips. I think Cooper has had questions and thoughts... as have countless blacklisters.
Help Coda, I'm so confused 😕 I don't even watch the show anymore. I haven't gone past early/mid season 6 if that far.
Also, um, what ya been up to? 🙃 Not to discount your life away from Tumblr and ao3, but I'm excited about reading new content! 😄😁

So. These theories & whatnot that you're worried about don't bother me at all because, simply put? The writers lost all credibility when they killed Liz. And, if you ask me, the best part about not watching the show anymore? We don't have to pay attention to what they're doing now! And let's be real, they went off the reservation a long time ago. That's reason enough for me to not consider anything they say or do now to be canon, especially not in the context of the whole story, & especially given that they no longer have the original creator (Bokencamp, who - I agree with you - always seemed team Lizzington to me) or literally half of the original cast. And you're absolutely right, there's so much undeniable proof for - at the very least - a STRONG, STRONG case for Lizzington - I mean, everything you listed, the looks, the comments, the subtext, the filming, the FUCKING PILOT SCRIPT - that to me, the bottom line is: If they can turn their back on their original endgame, then we can turn our backs on the retconned one. And yeah, some people might say that I'm only ignoring the canon that I don't like & doesn't support my ship which is UnTrUe To ThE sHoW or AgAiNsT fAnDoM rULeS or some shit & hey, that may be. But you know what? I'm fine with that. Because it's all fictional media & media is meant for entertainment & escaping from real life. And the best part about escapism in the form of fictional media? If it doesn't spark joy, then you can throw it the fuck out!!! And R*derina don't spark no joy for Coda 🙃🙃🙃 So... fuck 'em, honestly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ But yeah, my strategy is simply "assume anything that doesn't check out with previous canon is a retcon & therefore inadmissible in the fandom court of shipping laws." I would simply recommend not worrying about the crap they've spewed past season 8 7 6 3A - even if they try to confirm R*derina in the end - & instead enjoy the Lizzington proof & moments & beauty we were graced with while it lasted. [ So, this is a fic that is weird and 100% out of my comfort zone. It’s a Liz x Dembe fix with Redarina. Need I say more? Slightly NSFW. ]
Dembe always had a soft spot for Liz, so Red supposed he really shouldn’t have been surprised at the sight he walked into. The two of them sprawled out on the hardwood floor with Dembe’s large, dark hands encircling his sweet Lizzie’s porcelain skin around her waist. Dembe’s treacherous head buried between her thighs. His dark t-shirt lay discarded somewhere, and his pants were already unzipped.
Lizzie was under Dembe, wearing very little. Just a black bra and what looked like a slip of thin material beneath Dembe’s head.
Dembe was too engrossed in the task at hand to realize that Red had walked in, gun in hand. Liz’s moans had drowned out the sounds of the rest of the world, and her own eyes snapped shut as Dembe’s tongue teased her over her panties.
“Dembe!” Red said with a harsh, animalistic growl.
The anger was steadily building inside Red. He had expected to find his oldest, most trusted friend consorting with the woman who had nearly gotten him executed. A wound so fresh that it still bled. And here was Dembe, sticking another knife into his back and twisting it. The two of them together, against him.
Dembe’s head popped up in shock and horror. He looked straight ahead to see Raymond standing there with a gun aimed towards his head and look of rage and betrayal like he’d never seen before. He barely recognized the man in front of him.
Liz wrapped her legs protectively around Dembe, pulling his body in closer towards her, partly to protect Dembe and partly to give herself a little more cover. She would be eternally grateful that Dembe liked to tease her slowly.
“Red, it-“ Lizzie said in a cautious tone.
“I’ll get back to you in a minute, Elizabeth.” Red spat at her, cutting off her words in an instant, scolding her like she was a child.
He’d never been so harsh to her. Never. Not even when she confessed to him what she had done. She could see the anger in his face then, but it was eclipsed by betrayal and sadness. Her heart hammered in her chest. A wave of fear coursed through her body. She was utterly terrified of the look on his face. He almost didn’t even look human. He looked like some kind of monster.
“Raymond, please.” Dembe said, his words desperate, pleading, and tinged with fear.
“Of all the betrayals I have endured, nothing compares to this.” Red snarled. “How could you, Dembe?”
“It’s not what you think, Raymond.”
Red’s jaw twitched.
“My oldest friend. My brother. Like a son to me. The one person I trusted with everything, and you go and do this to me behind my back? With my child, my own flesh and blood. My entire reason for existing.”
Liz’s gasp broke the silence that has filled the room and was sucking all the air out of room.
“What did you just say?” Liz practically cried out.
Her chest was heaving up and down. Her heart was beating faster than humanly possibly. Her entire body already shaking from adrenaline.
The only sound she could hear was the beating of her own heart. It was making her dizzy.
She sat up and twisted her body until she was kneeling, looking up at Reddington. Her entire body was shaking.
Dembe’s arm wrapped around Liz’s waist protectively to steady her.
Reddington was white like a ghost. All the color had drained from his face. His arms dropped to his side as the realization of what he’d said finally hit him. His gun dropped to the ground as his fingers uncurled on their own. He was in shock. His entire body had stopped working. His mouth. His muscles. All of them were frozen.
“What did you mean when you said that I was your daughter?” Liz questioned.
Red swallowed, but said nothing. He barely even moved.
“You’re not my father. You can’t be my father. He’s dead.”
Red’s jaw twitched. His brain was firing as fast as it could, desperately trying to fix the stupid thing he had just done. Wondering if maybe there was a way to just undo the damage.
Liz’s anger was rising.
“Answer me!” She yelled.
Again, Red said absolutely nothing.
And then all of sudden, Liz lurched forward towards the gun.
It all happened too fast. Before either Red or Dembe could stop it, Liz was standing in front of Red, gun aimed at his chest. A look of shear determination was splayed across her face.
“Elizabeth, you can’t do this.” Dembe said calmly as he reached for Lizzie.
She flinched away, gun still aimed at Red.
“Give me the truth, Reddington, or so help me I will shoot you!”
Dembe took a step forward. “Elizabeth, my love, look at me.”
She turned her head slightly towards Dembe, but kept Red in her sights.
“Please, just give me the gun.” He said reaching out towards her, slowly.
“I can’t, Dembe.” She said, desperation filling her voice. “I need to know the truth.”
Dembe nodded. “I know and I promise you will get it.”
His hands wrapped around hers.
“Just give him a chance to explain.”
He lowered Liz’s hand.
“If not, I will tell you everything.” He said as he finally unwrapped her fingers from the gun and took the weapon into his own hand.
Liz fell into Dembe’s arms, and he wrapped his arms around her protectively for a while as she calmed down before she pulled away and turned her attention back to Red once again.
She gripped Dembe’s hand as she looked Red over, waiting for the truth.
Red looked towards Dembe. Dembe gave him an encouraging nod.
Dembe meant what he told Elizabeth. If Raymond didn’t tell her the truth tonight, he would, regardless of the consequences. She deserved to know. This had gone on for far too long.
“I’m not your father.” Red said softly.
“You just said that I’m your flesh and blood!”
“Yes, I did, and that’s the truth.”
“So then you are my father?! I am your daughter?”
“You are my daughter, but I am not your father.”
“What does that even mean?!“
Red was silent, and looked utterly vulnerable standing there in front of her without his armor. The truth was out in the open. All she has to do was accept it.
Dembe squeezed her hand as he waited for it to hit her.
And then all of a sudden, like a tsunami crashing onto land, everything hit her all at once.
“Oh….”She breathed out. “Oh….Ooooh!” Her words got louder.
Liz whipped her head back and forth between Red and Dembe in almost disbelief.
After a minute, she turned to Dembe, her eyes pleading for something— a confirmation, a denial, a laugh that this was just some cruel joke.
“It’s true, Elizabeth.” Dembe confirmed.
She turned back to Red. Her eyes had softened, but his entire body was still rigid almost as if he was preparing to take some massive hit.
She looked at Red with a harsh concentration, and for the first time, she really saw him for what he was. She saw the sacrifices. The heartbreak. She finally understood why he did the things he did. It was for her. It was always about his love for his. His love for his daughter.
Tears streamed down her face. She let go of Dembe’s hand and took a few steps closer to Red.
“You could have told me.” She said as she placed a soft hand on his cheek. “I’m your daughter, if anybody would understand, it’s me.” Her voice was soft, almost child-like.
He let out a sigh that he hadn’t realized he’d been holding in. His entire body relaxed into her touch. His eyes fluttered closed for just a second as he absorbed the moment.
“Lizzie…” He breathed.
“I spent my entire life wondering if you cared about me or if I ever even crossed your mind. Wondered if one day you would I come looking for me, but now I know the truth. You were there all along.”

Aram: I knew who you were, Liz. But I don’t recognize who you’ve become.
Ressler: He chose the life of a wanted fugitive. Why? Why would anyone do that?
My imposter Liz - memory wipe theory. That's what I'm predicting. Raymond was Katarina, Liz became Tom - without the face change. I believe one will reveal the other.
Ressler: So, what? You’re the, uh, new Agent Keen?
Cooper: He’s here at my invitation.
And it’s a theory that tracks, since Liz keeping her face is the entire point. It’s as if Tom “became” Liz, “became” the new Agent Keen. A female becoming a male (Katarina to Raymond) and a male becoming a female (Tom to Liz).

I’ve just finished binging all of The Blacklist, and honestly i can’t see Red being anyone other than Katerina.
i don’t know if it’s because i watched it all in one go, or because i had heard about the theory and was looking for it, (and picked up on a lot of evidence) but Red being Katerina makes perfect sense to me; like it is the one thing that makes sense.
(i also have a couple of ideas for fics to fix from at least mid season 7, but maybe earlier, and explore things i really want to explore, but that’s another matter)

They’re Better Not Go There!!!
*BLACKLIST SPOILERS*
They’re really doing it aren’t they? They are really going to make Red Katarina and pretend that makes sense. The voice and image overlay. The bubble girl house in the flashback. The insistence the real Raymond is dead. The parallel shots of child Katarina and the re-made Red. The everything about you is a lie callback.
NO! NO! NO!
1) Katarina was in Bubble Girl’s house, but that was not the correct emotional response. Red was fond and nostalgic about bubble girl. He ripped the panel off to see the height chart. He blew up the house because he was haunted by what happened there. Nothing traumatic happened to Katarina in that house. She was not fond of Jennifer, nor interested in her growth. She did not “raise her family” in that house (Fredrick Barnes). She would not spend her free time restoring and then privately viewing a film strip of her lover’s child whose life she destroyed (The Front).
2) The “You will always be her father Sam” speech implying Sam might have reason to think Red will usurp his title (General Ludd). Red already had a title, so why would Sam fear Red wanted to be Father as well.
3) The ballet performance of the girl dancing Swan Lake (Mako Tanida). The girl was too old to be Liz. This seems to be completely missing from this story.
4) Diane Fowler’s “truth about ‘your family’ would also be for naught (The Cyprus Agency). This truth that Red wants to know “more than anything”.
5) There is no way Katarina cares enough about Naomi/Carla to die for her. They didn’t have a relationship. Witsec happened right after Raymond was a fugitive. Raymond was a fugitive before he died and the swap was made. What deal could they have in place if they never met? Why would Kaplan call Naomi Katarina’s wife? Also how in the scenario they gave us was Naomi/Carla able to identify Agent Elizabeth Keen after 25 years?
6) Red’s “relatively normal life” he describes to Liz in 2x09. Katarina’s life was never relatively normal. Ever.
7) Red’s don’t lie policy when in 3x01 he says he’s not sure what happened to Katarina. Split sense of identity is one thing with metaphorically “death” as is sometimes acceptable. “I don’t know” however, is a bald-faced lie if Katarina and Red are the same person.
8) Cape May. He apologizes to himself? Choosing to save the child over himself was that hardest choice he’s had to make rather than killing Sam? He harangues himself for fake attempting suicide?
9) Visits with Dom. Dom said Red made choices for Katarina, and then Masha. Dom said Red killed his entire family. Red wanted hints on how to survive the loss of a daughter. Red was nostalgic about Katarina and glitter. Dom said he had no right to go through her things.
10) Kaplan thought Liz would turn against Red if she found out he was her mother, not her father? Doesn’t sound like Liz to me. Also Kaplan apologizes to the K in Tanzi Farms which has to stand for Katarina. So while she is dedicated to destroying Red, she’s also apologizing to him?
11) Dembe’s not sure Liz will ever be ready to hear what Red “did to her mother.” Really, he wouldn’t think Liz was be okay learning her Mother was alive and in her life?
12) There were no burns on Katarina’s back in Requiem. There are major burns on Red’s back.
I swear if they go Rederina I will scream. It’s that simple.

OK, right after I have watched 08.19, this is what I must say
There are two things I am going to say, one is about Rederina, the other...well, we'll get to that anyway later on.
So, about Rederina: it has been sealed a long time ago in my mind that Rederina is actually canon endgame; this is what the writing crew leads us to, this is what James is acting out, this has been a logical ziggsaw puzzle all along and it works, it is possoble to complete it only as long as the Mother theory is the truth, which I believe wholeheartedly is true! So, 08.19 just put another puzzle piece into our hands - we are lead with Elizabeth right to the reveal, which could be only to her, or both to her and to us. But right now is the moment when Red and Liz could only fight back TOGETHER or fall together, and that is just not going to happen with season 9 in tow and the possible plans to keep the show running. I see it clear enough that it is perfectly possible to do season 9 right after the grand Rederina reveal - because I believe that Jon has no reason to be afraid of loosing audience when he has the support of the chennel! And I do see it that way - Jon will see Rederina through as endgame because all the clues, 08.19 included, are no coincidence at all. They are preparing end of the season reveal, and outing The Witch as an imposter and killing Townsend is not enough of a reveal for a season with a slogan "no more secrets". How they will keep going after that? We shall see to find out. But the moment Red came to save Liz yet again was such a Mother-Daughter moment, Red's voice breaking with emotion, not trying to down talk Liz, but taking all the blame with so much love...Liz will get her answers, she sure will get them soon. And we shall too. And we shall too!
Now, to the second thing, which is actually a shipping war! God, I hate shipping wars, but we are onto one right now. And the shipping war is between keen2 camp and keenler camp, united by the first part of both shipps, Elizabeth Keen.
Well, first things first: Keen is her husband's alias, in fact per her husband she is Elizabeth Hargrave! As for the second thing - I am a keen2 shipper, they are my OTP, I love them so much I can barely accept the probobal fact of Liz finding her female happiness with anyone else...BUT that is not the point. The point actually is that Liz is a widow, and for quite some time right now. She has a Daughter, Agnes, who is a little angel, and angels need protection; a little girl and a lonely widow her Mother, don't they deserve better even despite my shipping feelings? YES THEY DO!!! Liz will never feel the same way about anyone else, but she could feel differently, couldn't she???
What I mean is that friendship is sometimes a more solide base on which to build a family, then passion, lust, or even love...because friendship requires taking care of one another, and that is love enough. That is true love, without the sex element, or even with it. Friendly sex is a known social phenomena, way better then just by blow which means nothing to either of the participants of the process.
There is one thing the writers need not prove to me time and time again, because they already did, they were proving it for 8 seasons, in every other episode: LIZ AND DONALD CARE FOR EACH OTHER SO MUCH, THAT HARM OR DEATH OF ONE WOULD EMOTIONALLY DESTROY THE OTHER!
Does that mean I support keenler as a shipper? No. Does that mean I would be OK with Donald and Liz together in the end? As a couple, maybe with another baby? YES, I WOULD BE!
If it was not Donald we are talking about, I might have found myself less pliant as a keen2 shipper, because what I wish Liz to have is so much more then just someone to fuck! And Donald Ressler is NOT just someone to fuck for Elizabeth. He is a friend, a partner, a shoulder to cry on, an honest voice, someone who is always true to his friendship with her, someone who cares so much that he would die for her or lie for her, because he cares! Does he love her? Well, that is NOT the question, because how would we care without loving? Love requires care, care springs from love! One does not walk without the other.
Same with Liz! She cares about Donald, she needs him in her life in any capacity whatsoever, so wishing her to not be with Donald romantically would mean I do not wish Liz to be happy, to be with someone she cares about, and that would mean I do not love Liz, but in fact I do love her. And Tom loved her! And her being happy still even after Tom's death just means that Tom's wish is fullfilled, for he wanted her to ve happy, not lonely and miserable for the rest of her life!
Shipping war is one thing, but why don't we use our brain and realize that this is much more then just about a shipping war - it is about wanting the unifying part of both shipps to be happy. And that means another thing - we shippers of the two shipps have absolutely nothing to war over!
It is just the past and the present. And the present can not happen without the past. So, my friends keen2 and my friends keenler, and my friends resslingtons, all of us, let's stop the shipping war because it takes so much joy out of being just who we are! There is fanfiction for every shipp, an answer to all of our hopes, because canon could not sattisfy us all, that would be impossible.
So why fight over something we have no influence on?!? Why not just enjoy the ride while it lasts? We know that nothing lasts forever!

The mess that is The Blacklist
I have to admit, I am tickled pink at the situation The Blacklist seems to have found themselves in. I have suspected for many seasons that the showrunners had not made any concrete decisions about Reddington and were just winging it as they went along. Those suspicions have been well and truly confirmed this season. While they haven't 100% explicitly confirmed it, they have come as close as they can to confirming it that the Rederina theory is true. To be fair, on an emotional level, it explains everything. However, on every other level its a laughable theory and I'm pretty sure it originated in the fandom originally as a joke. Seems the writers just saw it and ran with it. I man, there are just so many conversations and situations throughout the show that contradict the Rederina theory. Also, I am no Lizzington shipper. I have found that ship very strange as well because that relationship has never felt romantic to me. So my bemusement of Rederina had nothing to do with it being against my ship. And with Megan Boone leaving, any interest any of the characters had in Red's identity goes with it. Because who cares anymore. Liz was the only one directly affected by it. It feels like they just wanted to get this monkey off their back. And Bokenkamp seems to be bailing at just the right time.
But killing off Liz is a very strange way to do it because I am left wondering what the show will even be about next season. There is no revenge to be had since Townsend is already dead. Reddington has failed in his life's task to protect Liz. If he genuinely is Katarina and is dying anyways, what does he have left to live for. Are we going back to the season 1 formula of doing episode of the week Blacklisters. Because the mythology is more or less over with Liz's death. Red's identity is the only even slightly vague answer still left and really no one cares post Liz's death. I suspect Ressler will be out for blood against Reddington, but again, I feel Reddington would just welcome it. Agnes is too young to be a focus now. So I am a little confused. If they had left some mysterious enemy as the one who had killed Liz, then there would have been something the task force and Reddington would want to do. Also, if Liz is dead, I don't know how we get the Reddington that we know back. I mean, I can't imagine the energetic and playful Reddington being back after Liz's death. After she faked her death in season 3, he really only came to the fold to avenge her, something that isn't an option this time, and it was only a few episodes before Liz was found alive. Without the personality of Reddington, how is the show expected to survive? Lot of questions of the coming season because there has been no indication that next season is being planned as the last.
