sirius black, who excelled, who was bright, who was alive. sirius black, whose smiles were wide and whose arms were open, whose hair was tucked behind his ear, his wand poking out of it, whose sleeves were rolled up, whose hands were filled with scribbles, and whose ears were filled with earrings. sirius black, cigarettes tucked behind his ears, and love tucked in his heart. sirius black, books scattered across the floor and his tie hanging off the bed frame. sirius black, who has always done everything effortlessly. whose magic coursed through his veins, thick like smoke, liquid like blood, ever since he knew himself. wine spilt on gowns, the lost heir.
regulus black, who tried, who was bright, but who never shined as brightly as sirius. regulus, who kept his back straight and who kept himself composed, green around his neck, his destiny a weight around his chest. chaining him, heavy on his heart. regulus black, imperfect perfection. regulus black, neat handwriting on scattered letters, a quiet betrayal signed R. A. B., a scream dying in the back of his throat. regulus black, magic in his veins, but not nearly as effortless as sirius', not nearly as good, never as good as sirius. regulus black, the spare heir.

idk why im in such a bad mood rn but it actually PISSES ME TF OFF how the entire marauders fandom collectively decided to take this bum-ass loser character with one discernable impact on the storyline (regulus. im talking about regulus) and make him a super complex, three-dimensional MAIN character in the era that’s being literally paired with JAMES POTTER(???) when they could’ve taken a character who AREADY has existing complexities and everything they could ever want and develop them. but they won’t because that character is a fucking woman ☠️☠️
the way the black sisters would have the entire fandom in a fucking chokehold if they were boys. do you actually think sirius and regulus would be as cherished as they are now if they were women? hell fucking no, regulus would be hated on so badly. the way we were given narcissa and fucking andromeda too? here’s the entire fandom yapping on and on about how cool regulus is for rebelling against the dark lord when narcissa was doing it and fucking getting away with it too (because she’s better and doesn’t suck ass). here’s andromeda going against her entire bloodline ON HER OWN but yet shes still so overshadowed by sirius (who literally came after her). then you got bellatrix who is canonly one of the most powerful (and cuntiest) witches in the hp-verse and you decide to go and develop BARTY instead. think about it. they’re both crazy except one is more of a loser and is a male so of course the fandom will choose him.
and then. of course. lily evans who is literally the mother of the entire verse itself is still out here fighting for literal recognition and development from the fandom. and those mfs still give it to regulus instead ☠️☠️

i could talk for hours abt regulus being a college drop out like it just fits him so well. I’m sorry i know the public will disagree but no one gets him like i do. he thinks he has to go to uni and get a degree bc it’s what hes supposed to do but honestly ? he doesn’t like it he wants to learn at his own pace w his own structure he wants to explore the world he has barred himself from for so long . like i love fics where reg drops out and gets like a sugar daddy just to have the money to go to the fanciest art museums across the world and look through them at his own pace….. free from his parents to do what he wants in his own way, not in theirs ….. my sweet angel boy
so many ppl think that regulus like genuinely wants to be like his parents and do what they do and that!! is so wrong…. even in canon…. yes he willingly joined the D.E but it’s bc he didn’t realize he could do anything else … why would he think abt anything else ???? he doesn’t have any other life this is his only option. so he will live in denial abt how much he actually wants it. he’s alicentpilled in that way (those who know know)….
that’s why the moment regulus realizes he’s unhappy he literally kills himself instead of trying to rebel: he doesn’t think he Can rebel. this is his only option. if he is miserable living like this than living will just be miserable. he only has one other thing to do and that would be to die.
anyways back on topic Soz but i don’t like it when reg like owns a business or still gets his masters or a phd or something like to me that doesn’t feel like him … i’m a big fan of sirius n reg ending up in the opposite of spots as to where their parents expected. his parents thought sirius would end up poor and uneducated doing odd jobs for cash and regulus, their puppet child, would end up rich and successful making connections and such…. and then it turns out sirius gets an education and proves himself as capable of being something without them, and regulus let’s go of his parents standards of living. sirius is designing his business cards while regulus is smoking weed in the back of barty’s fuck ass car . they are both at peak happiness. regulus gets to live his own life.
sirius proves to himself he is worth something and capable outside of his family, that he can succeed without them, that he isn’t going to fall from grace without them, and regulus proves to himself that the fall from grace isn’t much of a fall, and that he’s happier with the people he loves than with the career his parents wanted for him. that’s my vision

I come to you with this question because, having read all your other metas, I think you'd be the right person to ask. Id love to know what you think about Regulus because I have a very hard time understanding his character. Partly because of fanon characterization of him makes him seem like some secret rebel against Voldemort and partly because I just can't really understand any of his motivations. But regardless, I think what we know about him in canon is so interesting - i just can piece it all together. I'd love to know what you think!
(Sorry for the longish ask)
thank you very much for the ask, @hauntingpercival! regulus is a character i also find a bit of a mystery, and so thinking through this answer was really fun.
i'll start by being clear that i'm certainly not a regulus fan. by which i not only mean that i don't vibe with the fanon!regulus of the marauders fandom, who is essentially an original character - and you can read my views on jegulus here... [spoiler alert: i do not back it] - but that when he appears in my own writing in ways i'd like to hope feel influenced by his canon form, i always find myself focusing on aspects of his character which are rather unlikeable.
there is a little bit of a discourse-y reason for this, which will be pertinent to the rest of this answer...
i really don't like the sort of "omg aristocracy is so hot and sexy and interesting" tropes which are so prevalent in writing around the black family. this is firstly because i don't think that aristocracy is in any way these things - and i find it distasteful to imply otherwise - which is because i'm a prole who lives somewhere still bearing the scars of british colonisation who also went to the sort of university where one sometimes encountered aristocrats and they were all cringe and unbearable.
but it's also because it's not - and i will genuinely die on this hill - an accurate reflection of how the blacks are presented in canon. not only does it take sirius' comment that his parents considered themselves "practically royal" to be a statement of fact [sirius is quite clearly taking the piss out of his parents' pretensions], but it also misses that the purpose sirius' discussion of orion and walburga's politics serves in the narrative of order of the phoenix is to show how mainstream their blood-supremacist views were.
sirius tells us that his parents were not death eaters, but that they nonetheless thought voldemort's overtly sectarian political aims were correct. in this, they hold the political views order of the phoenix emphasises belong to cornelius fudge - unimaginative, deferential to the class system, casually prejudiced, and so on. orion and walburga function as a way of showing us just how entrenched the death eaters' manifesto is, how close voldemort came to winning the first war, and what an uphill struggle the order faces to unravel the roots blood-supremacy has in the wizarding world.
[and they also show that the baffling vibes of grimmauld place - while these are made worse by it being three different gothic literature tropes in a trenchcoat - are wizarding norms, rather than evidence that the blacks were uniquely immersed in dark magic. the decor at grimmauld place - and the family's collection of dark artefacts - is the same as that found in malfoy manor, even at a time when lucius malfoy is considered eminently socially respectable. this is a point we will come back to...]
i think, then, that it's crucial to approach regulus not as a swaggering aristocrat, but as someone from an upper-class background which - while still posh, rich, inferring enormous social capital, well-connected - was unremarkable within the circles in which he moved.
by which i mean that hogwarts is based on real-world institutions - britain's elite boarding schools - which are so exclusive and expensive to attend that the student body are from a class-background which seems inhumanly exclusive, affluent, and powerful from an outsider perspective [i.e. from the perspective of someone from the majority middle- and working-classes] but which seems completely normal within the student body itself.
[i.e. nobody at eton with princes william and harry will have been astonished to have been at school with a royal, because they will have been familiar with their social circles, cultural experiences, level of wealth, and expectation of knowing someone with considerable social influence from childhood.]
while hogwarts appears to be a state-funded school [although it also expects an enormous amount of financial investment on the part of parents - such as buying all the textbooks], the fact that its real-world parallels are so elite [and, therefore, come with a specific "look" in the british cultural imagination] means that the student body is incredibly well-heeled and working-class students stand out enormously in a way very rich students do not. hogwarts also exists - like real-world elite schools and universities - as a way of propping up the status quo of the class system by which the wizarding world functions. its pupils have an expectation of procuring jobs in the civil service and other influential professions - using not only connections established at school but connections they possess through their [male] relatives. many hogwarts students we meet in canon are related to someone who occupies an elite position in the wizarding executive or is otherwise socio-politically influential.
at school, then, regulus would have been completely, perfectly average in terms of social position. i also like the idea of him as perfectly average in terms of intellect - and as a good, but not exceptional, seeker. this provides a really interesting point of contrast with sirius, who - while he's also not socially unusual in terms of class [and i will never vibe with tropes like him being followed by whispers going "omg, he's a black, that means he's important"] - stands out in that he's the first black in generations not to be in slytherin, that he's precociously intelligent, and that he - and the rest of the marauders - are class clowns and show-offs.
and i like the idea that this would give regulus a desire to stand out - to be considered the most important person in the whole school. we can get a hint of this in canon - the picture of sirius and his friends harry sees in deathly hallows is immediately contrasted with a picture of regulus sitting in the seeker's position in the team photo. the seeker who acts alone.
and i think this desire for notoriety is what drives him to sign up to become a death eater - that he decides he's sick of having parents with the perfectly normal level of social influence and a brother who is more popular than him, and that he thinks that he's cleverer and more worthy of attention than everyone else in the castle and the world better start showing it.
[and i've never bought - i'm afraid - the idea that he and sirius are close. it's clear from canon that regulus had no issue being thought of as "a much better son" than sirius, and that he colluded with his parents against him. sirius can love him - and miss him, and regret how they were never able to repair their relationship - but i don't think this means that he feels he's lost a bestie.]
that he holds sincere blood-supremacist views is a given - because within the world in which he lives, these are completely normal and held completely casually [i.e. that slughorn is shocked lily could be muggleborn because she's clever]. the more virulent expression of these views - saying "mudblood", etc. - is clearly considered ill-mannered, but not something which might have any real impact on one's social standing [draco malfoy uses the term with impunity while at school, and nobody ever considers that informing a teacher of this would result in him being punished; equally, nobody from the crowd who witness the event reports snape for calling lily a mudblood].
and so i think it's clear that he becomes interested in joining the death eaters - and starts putting together his terrorism pinterest board - because his mainstream belief that being pureblood is better crashes into his desire to be special to form a conviction that riding the coattails of voldemort's ostentatious malevolence is the way he can become famous.
[in this, he is very like snape.]
my assumption is that regulus is one academic year below sirius, meaning that he was born in 1960-1961. my assumption is also that he receives his dark mark while still at school - probably at some point in his newt years [so the academic years 1977-1978 and 1978-1979].
the standard view - expressed vehemently by various order members in half-blood prince - is that voldemort has no interest in death eaters who are still at school.
the order is wrong about this, obviously - not only when it comes to their refusal to accept that harry's right about draco malfoy being marked, but also in the fact that several of the death eaters who are very young at the end of the first war, barty crouch jr. [who is still young enough to be described as a "boy" in 1982 at the earliest], chief among them, must have been taken on by voldemort prior to graduating.
but it seems fair to say that admitting teenagers into his inner circle is unusual for voldemort, especially when those teenagers don't really offer him anything useful. crouch, for example, could be put to work informing on his father's movements. regulus is - as i've said - just ordinary.
and so my view has always been that regulus is marked by voldemort as a favour to bellatrix. i think this partially because i'm bellamort trash, partially because i think it's a nice narrative parallel between regulus and draco [who are very similar] to have bellatrix be responsible for regulus' recruitment when she's canonically vociferously in favour of draco's, and partially because realising that voldemort thinks of him as just some guy who warrants [essentially] a pity dark mark would be a big blow to regulus' conviction that joining the death eaters would make him impressive.
[i also think regulus is recruited before 1978 because i think there has to be a shift in voldemort's modus operandi at about this point, in order for the fact that sirius says that his parents got cold feet about what the dark lord was prepared to do after regulus became a death eater to make sense. my view has always been that voldemort's violence prior to c.1978 overwhelmingly targets state institutions and people connected to them and/or people with known anti-voldemort political views, meaning that ordinary citizens can regard these people being killed or injured as reasonable risks of their jobs and/or behaviour. and then that after c.1978, the dark lord begins targeting civilians - including upper-class pureblood civilians - indiscriminately, which makes his casual supporters start to waver a bit.]
so, let's suppose that regulus leaves hogwarts in june 1979 and finds himself expected to participate as a full death eater, after having been let off all the dirty work by virtue of being at school...
as i've said, regulus has an enormous number of narrative parallels with draco malfoy. and i think that the best way to think about him is to write him as sharing draco's canonical attitude to voldemort's cause - that he believes whole-heartedly in the message of blood-supremacy the dark lord promotes and that he has no problem with people he considers subhuman [mudbloods and blood-traitors] or unimportant [faceless families massacred in their own homes] being subjected to violence in the name of that message, but that he lacks the character traits necessary to perform that violence himself, to see it done to people he likes, or to witness what it actually involves versus the image he has of it in his head.
and so i imagine he starts struggling pretty quickly with the fact that being a death eater isn't quite as easy as he thought it would be when he was making voldemort fancams on tiktok. and that part of the reason he's primed to turn against the dark lord is because of the tension he feels warring within him at the fact that he's still a blood-supremacist, still desperate to be important, and yet growing disenchanted.
i don't however, think this is why he does what he does... so let's get into that:
why does regulus turn against voldemort?
let's be clear about one thing - regulus turning against voldemort has nothing to do with him having some sort of damascene conversion against blood-supremacy.
[or, at least, that's what i think.]
the outline of regulus' defection that we get in canon goes as follows:
voldemort asks someone to lend him a house elf. we know that regulus volunteers kreacher, because he told kreacher so - and so i imagine voldemort mentions at a meeting that he wants to procure an elf [although, of course, he doesn't elaborate on why] and regulus immediately jumps up and says "pick me, my lord" because he sees this as an opportunity to get voldemort to finally notice him.
his assumption must be that voldemort will use kreacher for a purpose which is considered normal in wizarding society - i.e. that he will require him to do something akin to domestic service, perhaps preparing potions ingredients.
it evidently does not occur to him that voldemort would transgress this social boundary and harm kreacher. not - to be clear - because i think that regulus was some kind of abolitionist legend, but because we see several characters express the view in goblet of fire that how barty crouch sr. treats winky is his own business, and that it is impolite for respectable wizards to comment on how anyone else treats his slave. this sort of social behaviour will have a second part - that it is impolite for respectable wizards to treat anyone else's slave in a way which goes beyond what wizarding slaveowners see as normal.
or: that it's fine to be lent a slave to serve you, but very much not fine to nearly kill that slave [someone else's property!] for your own gain.
kreacher informs regulus what voldemort asked of him, which makes regulus suspicious about what the object voldemort deposited in the cave was. regulus then decides to investigate.
kreacher tells us that regulus goes away for an indeterminate period of time and then returns to grimmauld place "disturbed in his mind".
dumbledore claims in half-blood prince that voldemort appears not to wear or display the objects the horcruxes are made from after he turns them into horcruxes. i think we can agree with this or not without it affecting the story - i quite like the idea that voldemort doesn't make the locket until the later 1970s [maybe after the murder of dorcas meadowes, the only person in the first war other than james and lily to have canonically been killed by him personally], but we can also say that he might have worn or displayed it when it was already a horcrux. certainly, regulus must have seen the locket - either on voldemort or somewhere in his lair - and, after kreacher tells him what happened, he goes to see if it's still there.
when he discovers it isn't, he comes to an important conclusion. one which requires a little detour...
how does regulus know what a horcrux is?
i complained at the start of this answer about the black family being portrayed as unusually immersed in the dark arts - rather than some sort of familiarity with the dark arts being perfectly normal for people of their social class.
and i am sure that you might think I'm about to have to eat my words, since i'm not going to try and deny that regulus was able to identify a horcrux all by himself...
but, actually, i'm just chucking malevolently at the opportunity to clamber onto my soapbox and say:
horcruxes are canonically not magic which only a handful of people know about. where voldemort goes beyond the theory of horcruxes which a wizard of regulus' class-background would be familiar with is that he makes seven.
this doesn't mean - to be clear - that i think it was ever common to make a horcrux [i don't think the wizarding world is quite that lawless...], but that it was reasonable to know they exist, in the way that we might have some general understanding of something macabre - like techniques for disposing of a body - which would enable us to suspect if we saw a neighbour behaving strangely while doing one of those things...
after all, slughorn can suggest [even if he doesn't believe this is what he wants to do] that voldemort could justify his interest in horcruxes by using the excuse that he's working on a project for defence against the dark arts.
that harry, ron, and hermione don't know about them is a result of a combination of their own lack of interest in the theory of the dark arts, the information blackout instituted by dumbledore at some point after voldemort graduates [and my theory as to why dumbledore hates horcruxes even in the forties? grindelwald made one - hence why dumbledore is so hopeful at king's cross that the rumours of his repentance might have been true...], and the fact that they don't discuss their mission with anyone [tonks, kingsley, and moody, who literally have to specialise in dark objects as part of their jobs, would one hundo have known what a horcrux was].
[what they would not have known is what voldemort's horcruxes were likely to be made of and where they were likely to be. it's this - rather than the idea that horcruxes are completely unknowable magic - that is why it has to be harry in charge of hunting them down: he's the only person in the series who knows voldemort well enough to realise that, for example, he'd have hidden one in gringotts because of his jealousy at being excluded from this pillar of wizarding normality.]
so, regulus has a little rummage, works out the locket has disappeared, and has no trouble - especially because voldemort mentions in goblet of fire that he'd told his death eaters he couldn't die [which regulus might not have thought was him speaking literally] prior to 1981 - guessing what it's being used for.
and so, regulus turns against voldemort.
and i think that he does this because the horcrux makes it impossible for him to pretend any longer that voldemort's aims are - when the ministry is forced to the negotiating table by his paramilitary activities - an oligarchy in which upper-class pureblood families benefit and muggleborns and blood-traitors become second-class citizens, but which doesn't deviate too much in terms of its overwhelming norms from the way wizarding society functioned at that time. instead, he is confronted with the undeniable fact that voldemort intends to reign forever as an immortal absolute monarch, and that he has never had any intention of elevating regulus and people like him to the positions of importance he so craved.
[we see something similar happen to draco, whose increasing fear of voldemort throughout half-blood prince and deathly hallows is clearly driven by him realising that voldemort isn't joking when he says that he'll kill him and his parents unless he obeys orders, but is joking when he says he'll be considered a valuable servant should he manage to kill dumbledore...]
and so his death - and his threat to destroy the horcrux - is a repudiation of his beliefs. but, specifically, it is a repudiation of his conviction that voldemort was a primarily political figure who would act as a champion of the pureblood class-system. it's him recognising that voldemort would not stop with a takeover of the ministry - he would kill and kill forever, concerned only with how much further he could venture beyond the norms of magic.

Why both Jily and Jegulus make sense in the Marauders Fandom
Tumblr media
Okay, so I have been seeing a few posts recently dismissing Jegulus as a ship and, although I am personally more of a Jily than a Jegulus girly, I thought I'd explain why both ships make sense to me in the context of the original source material.
We know that there is a direct link between the Marauders and the Golden Trio in the books, and that each member of one mirrors a member of the other.
James and Harry being the most obvious, as father and son and the perceived 'leader' of their group of friends.
Sirius and Ron, the 'best friend'. Both from pureblood families, although the Blacks and the Weasleys couldn't be more different in their beliefs. Both feel misunderstood and perhaps misplaced in their family. Both give James and Harry unadulterated, solid friendship that is fiercely loyal and unquestioning.
Remus and Hermione, the outcasts. Remus due to his lycanthropy, Hermione due to her muggleborn status. Both try to counterbalance this by excelling in their studies and are, by nature (again, this is in the original books) more rule-followers rather than rebels.
Peter and Neville, the astonished Gryffindors. Both from pureblood families, both equally surprised by being sorted in the house where bravery is valued most. They each deal with impostor syndrome, but whilst Neville's friends build him up and he eventually comes into his own thanks to Dumbledore's Army, Peter fails (or is failed by his friends) in doing so and betrays them for the dark side.
We know that Harry ends up marrying Ginny, who is, like Lily, a magically talented and strong-willed red-haired witch but is also his best friend's younger sibling. So, James falling for Regulus doesn't feel like too far a stretch to me.
Jegulus also gives the opportunities to explore a lot of interesting considerations for writers, such as (i) what is the difference between loving someone as a best friend and loving someone romantically; (ii) you can't choose the family you are born into but you can make your own family as you grow older; (iii) what are the differences in relationship dynamics between partners, lifelong friends and siblings?
I'm sure someone has more cleverly and thoroughly analysed these parallels before but I just wanted to share my unsolicited opinion with the tubmlrverse.
Overall, I would say if you enjoy reading something, read it. If you find yourself not enjoying something, DON'T. Freedom is fickle in this flawed world, so exercise it ruthlessly where you can.
Ok, rant over, Misia out x

Regulus grew up being forced to always appear and act as masculine as he could. He learned exactly what to say and when to say it very quickly and he did it to survive.
Sirius, however, broke the rules as much as he could. He wore eyeliner, jewellery and bright nail polish. He cut his t shirts into crop tops, he pierced his ears (several times), and grew his hair down to his shoulders. No matter how many times he was punished, starved, or worse, he would still keep doing it.
The more Sirius rebelled, the more Regulus learned to stay in line.
Regulus never understood the thrill Sirius got from his little rebellions. Why couldn't he just do what he was expected to and save himself from the torture he endured.
Of course, this was before Pandora asked to paint his nails so she could practice. He said yes, obviously, because how could you ever say no to Pandora?
She picked a dark green, she said it "matched his aesthetic."
He wasn't expecting to feel much when he looked down at the finished polish, but when he did, everything clicked. Regulus finally understood his brother.
He felt pretty, but what he also liked was the subtlety to it.
Regulus was never out spoken or proud like Sirius was. He liked the quiet and being left alone. He didn't like the stares that Sirius would revel in.
So he learned to express himself in small, almost unnoticeable ways. He kept painting his nails only using dark colours, never too bright or eye-catching. He grew his hair just long enough to tuck behind his ears. He started to wear rings, nothing too flashy.
It might not seem like a lot too other people, but to Regulus, it meant the world.

Five Hogwarts students, all mysteriously framed walk into detention.
Sirius Black, the brain, is Oxford-bound and never breaks a rule. Lily Evans, the beauty, is an aspiring model and the most popular girl at Hogwarts. Remus Lupin, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing. Dorcas Meadows, the athlete, is captain of the school's lacrosse team. And Barty Crouch Jr., the outcast, is the creator of the notorious gossip app that took the Hogwarts student body by storm.

The only things strong enough to make someone rebel against the pureblood expectations they have been taught for years are love and loss.
Sirius loved. He loved james and his friends so deeply. He loved his brother enough to want a better life for him.
Andromeda loved. She loved ted, and you cant control love.
Narcissa loved. She loved her family enough to place them above her loyalty.
Regulus lost. He lost his brother and his childhood and when threatened with the loss of kreacher, the one being that had always been there, he made a choice.
(Or if u ship jegulus he loved james so much he changed sides, which i personally think is a very cheap way of ignoring the nuances of how regulus was a bad person)

sirius being dramatic when finding out about jegulus + very side wolfstar and rosekiller
Sirius strode into the apartment without warning, tossed his keys onto the table with a loud clunk, and took a dramatic bow with a wolffish grin.
“So, what do you think?”
“Of what?” Regulus asked, deadpanning him, “Your dramatic entrance? You’re not a vampire, Sirius- also I told you that key was for emergencies only.”
“This is an emergency.” Sirius glared at him, straightening up, “I need compliments.”
“Oh, how out of character for you.” Regulus said sarcastically, stirring his tea with his spoon at the table.
Sirius flipped him off.
“Please, tell me your thoughts.” Sirius grinned, showing off his new look and flourishing his hair, “Honest opinions only, unless they’re mean. If they’re mean, just tell me I’m pretty instead.”
“You’re pretty.” Dorcas smirked, and Sirius flipped her off.
Sirius had gone on an impulsive whim this morning after a quiet breakfast with Remus had revealed he quite likes the edgy punk look. And whilst Sirius is well aware how much Remus adores his long hair and pretty rebel boy demeanour, mixining it up for a few months could only mean a bit of fun.
Besides, if the way Remus’ brain seemed to short circuit that time Sirius came home with a septum and a nose piercing meant anything, Sirius is sure the other man would absolutely melt now.
He’d gotten himself an eyebrow and lip piercing today, as well as an extra three in his ear. It was a painful feat, and Sirius will not admit that he cried and had to be given a lollipop like a child, but he did it.
He also cut his hair short, just below the base of his skull, short wavy locks that no longer frame his face like they once did. And underneath, he’s died it electric blue.
He chopped one of his old metal band tees through the middle for a rough crop, and put Remus’ too big black ripped jeans on, letting them sit low on the waist with a studded belt to keep from pantsing himself. He’s never really been one for having his briefs stuck up out of his pants, but he happens to be wearing dark blue ones today, and they match.
“I think you look lovely, Sirius.” Pandora smiled over her tea, sitting at the table by Regulus. Out of Regulus’ entire group of friends, Sirius likes her the best. She’s always the nicest to him. “Very punk rock.”
“Thank you, Pandora.” Sirius smiled.
“I think you look stupid.” Regulus said, because of course he did.
“Thank you, Reggie.” Sirius smiled.
“I think you look like me.” Barty said, leaning up against the kitchen counter, one foot on the cabinets behind him for stability.
Sirius furrowed his brow and looked Barty over. And… fuck, yeah, he did. Barty was also wearing a messily cropped shirt, briefs that stuck out of the hem of his low baggy sweats, but he usually wears jeans like these when he’s out and about. And his hair is almost identical to Sirius’, however there’s green in it rather than blue. And the piercings, he’s got loads of them, skin smothered with tattoos too.
“You stealing my look, Black?” Barty grinned.
“Yeah, Im very attracted to him right now.” Evan, who had his head resting on Barty’s shoulder, smiled, “You should go blue, Barty. Its hot.”
“Hey.” Barty nudged him in the side and Sirius blushed.
“Well, thank you Evan, however, I am happily committed.” Sirius smiled, taking another little bow, “I suppose I take that as a compliment too, Crouch?”
“Obviously.” Crouch snickered, “I feel honoured that the Sirius Black is trying to look more like little old me-“
“That was an accident.” Sirius pressed, pointing at him, “I just wanted to look cool for Remus.”
“So you think I look cool?” Barty laughed delightfully.
“That’ll work.” Dorcas grinned, “Remember when Remus and Barry shagged-“
“I don’t need a reminder of that!” Sirius shouted as the same time that Barty said, “Cas, I told you to stop bringing that up around Evan.”
“Oh, so she can bring it up when I’m not around, huh?” Evan asked with a snake like grin, “Do you like to reminisce when I’m not there, Barty? Are you unfaithful?”
“Never, dove.” Barty kissed Evans forehead and sent an evil glare Dorcas’ way, “Dorcas just likes to stir the pot.”
Dorcas and Pandora giggled to themselves.
“Okay, enough about you lot, more about me.” Sirius interrupted, “On a scale of one to ten, how much do you think Remus will want to shag me when I get home? Ten being a lot-“
Sirius’ speech was interrupted by someone else letting themselves in through the front door and striding into the house.
“Love, I broke my glasses again, can you please fix them?” Sirius recognised that voice instantly, it was his best friends voice afterall. James walked right past Sirius in the entry way and leant in and smacked a kiss right on Regulus’ lips, “Missed you.” James muttered again, “I know it’s only been three hours, but I always miss you.”
Sirius is feeling a lot of confusion right now.
Regulus sends him a panicked glance over James’ shoulder, and then awkwardly looks up at James with pink cheeks. Sirius takes in the sudden tension in the room, at the way Pandora is sending Sirius a pleading look, at the way Dorcas is biting her lip in anticipation and looking between everyone, at the way Barty is clearly trying his best not to burst out with laughter, and the way that Evan is jabbing an elbow into his side and looking remorseful.
Suddenly Sirius is no longer confused. He feels more betrayed than anything.
James is fucking shagging his baby brother, isn’t he?
“Oh, Barty, by the way-“ James starts but he interrupts himself midway through, “I swear you were just-“ James turns and points in Sirius’ direction, and then spins back to Barty, “Why are there two of you?”
Barty bursts out laughing, “There’s only one of me, Potter.”
James swings back and forth, looking between them for a moment. And Sirius remembers how genuinely blind James is without his glasses. He usually can’t tell Remus and Peter apart when without them, their hair too similar in colour. So Sirius decides to help him out.
“James.” Sirius prompts when James’ back is to him, and he watches the way the other man immediately stiffens, “Are you snagging my brother?”
Regulus stands and slides James’ glasses onto his face before solemnly petting him on the cheek and sighing, “You’ve been wanting to tell him somehow.”
James slowly turns around, “Oh, Sirius, hi! Didn’t see you there, wow, new look. Very punk, Remus is sure to love it- hey, why don’t we go show Remus now? Yeah, let’s go right there and not talk about anything else-“
“James.” Sirius prompts again, glaring at him, “Are you, or are you not, shagging my brother.”
“Uhm, well… shagging’s quite a vile word, don’t you think? I prefer… love making-“
Behind him, Regulus groaned and began to bang his head on the cupboard whilst all of his friends lit up with laughter.
“Love making?” Sirius gasped, “James, that’s disgusting.”
“Well, it’s not really, it’s quite lovely.”
Sirius pretends to gag, “How long?”
“Erm… bit of an odd question considering it’s your brother.” James shrugged, “But, usually at least an hour-“
“No!” Sirius gasped, slapping his hands down over his ears, which hurt due to the new piercings. “I meant you two! How long have you been shagging?”
“Oh.” James turned bright red, “Yeah, I suppose that’s more logical. Uhm, maybe… like… mhgh…”
“I’m sorry?” Sirius asked, “Mind not mumbling?”
James pulled a wry face and shook his head. Sirius cocked an eyebrow, which also hurt.
Regulus groaned and leant over James, shoulder, “Six and a half month-“
“What!” Sirius shrieked, “You’ve been fucking m’y brother for six and a half months and haven’t told me?!”
“I don’t need to tell you all my personal business, Sirius.” Regulus said.
“Yeah, but, James does.” Sirius points at him.
“It’s true, I do.” James agreed, “Which is why I’m so sorry, Pads. I didn’t want to keep it from you, it’s just, we thought we should at first because I know you scared away the last two guys Reggie was involved with. And then… and then I just felt bad for lying and so I kept lying and… and now we’re here.”
Sirius shook his head at James, “I’m so disappointed in you.” He squinted his eyes, “Just fooling around with my brother like that-“
“We’re not fooling around, Sirius.” James defended, “We never were.”
“I don’t understand.” Sirius shook his head, “Are you shagging or not?”
James snickered, “Look, I didn’t even know I had a crush on Reggie till he kissed me one day, and then I immediately realised I liked him and… and well, we started going out. The shagging didn’t start till after then.”
Sirius took a little step back, looking them both over.
“It’s genuine, Sirius.” James smiled, putting his arm around Regulus’ shoulders, “I just didn’t- I was too scared… I was worried you wouldn’t approve of me for him.” James shrugged, “But we’re not just shagging… I love him.”
Sirius was taken aback, stuck silent for a moment. James loved him? Regulus was gazing up at James with flushed cheeks and a a smile he’d never seen his brother wear before, and it seemed like Regulus loved him back.
Sirius burst out crying.
James immediately rushed to his aid, making them both sit at the table, two chairs pulled out to face eachother. Regulus groaned and went to put on a new pot of tea.
James took Sirius’ hands, shushing him and looking terribly guilty, “I- I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Sirius. Is there something I can do to make it up to you? Is… Is there something I can do to make me worthy of him? I can’t lose- I can’t lose either of you, I’m so sorry, Sirius.”
Sirius sobbed so hard he couldn’t even speak. He shook his head to try and communicate with James, but the message did not go across clearly.
James had started to cry too, “I’m sorry, Sirius. I’m so sorry, I should have- I know I shouldn’t have lied, especially not for so long. But I was so worried- worried about this. I can’t-“ James sobbed so hard he started hyperventilating, “I don’t want to loose- loose-“
“Okay.” Pandora muttered, getting in between them, “Look at me, let’s take some deep breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. With me now, come on, in through the nose… out through the mouth.”
Sirius and James sat there for a moment, following pandoras instructions. James’ glasses were cracked and foggy, and Sirius was dreading having to reapply his eyeliner for a second time today.
Regulus set some teacups down on the table and poured them each some midnight blue coloured tea, “Dora’s recipe. Supposed to calm you.”
“I’m sorry.” James muttered after taking a big sip of tea, “I don’t know what to do, Pads. I can’t lose you both.”
Sirius took a few sips himself, taking a moment to compose himself, “You’re not going too.” He smiled, his eyes begging to water again, “I’m sorry I freaked you out.”
“What?” James asked, taken aback, his voice sounded hoarse.
Sirius set his cup down with shaky hands and burst into more tears, but he smiled through them, and they weren’t nearly as heavy as before, “You love him?!”
James sent a nervous glance over at Regulus and tentatively nodded, “As much as I love you- but, differently, of course.”
That only made Sirius cry harder. He tried to talk again, but all that came out was incoherent nonsense.
“Sirius, stop wailing and just talk for Godricks sake.” Regulus scoffed, “Or you can fucking get out of my house.”
Sirius took a deep breath and sniffled, “I’m sorry… I just… you love him! Reggie deserves to be loved.”
“Oh.” James muttered, poking his glasses up his nose. Across the table, Regulus went silent. James smiled and nodded, “Yeah, of course he does.”
“And you deserve to be loved.” Sirius mumbles.
James snickers, “Well, I hope I do.”
“And… and you have such a big heart, and love people so… so… in the best way.”
James smiled and nodded.
“And Reggie-“ Sirius sobbed more, “He struggles- but he really loves who he loves with his whole heart.”
Regulus embarrassedly buried his head in his hands and Barty gave him a playful shove.
“Out of everyone in the world, I approve of you both the most for eachother.” Sirius sobbed, “And it just makes me so happy that you love eachother!”
There was a moment of silence before James started laughing in that way he does when he really adores something. He reached out and grabbed Sirius’ hands, squeezing them tight.
“It makes me so fucking happy that you approve.”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Sirius sniffled, “You’re my best friend, and he’s my brother. You’re my two favorite people, it only makes sense that you love eachother.”
“Do you mean that?” Regulus asked across the table.
“Of course.” Sirius nodded, reaching over to pet Reggie’s elbow, “And when you get married James will be my brother in law-“
“I bloody know!” James grinned, slapping his knee, “How good will that be?”
Sirius grabbed onto him excitedly.
After a moment, James smiled and wiped at the black smudge from Sirius’ tears, “This new look got anything to do with Remus’ thing for punks?”
Sirius smiled sheepishly, “Do you think he’ll like it?”
“He liked it enough when you got those nose piercings, he’ll probably pass out seing you like this.”
Sirius chuckled.
“Come on, let’s clean you up and get you back home to him.”
Sirius smiled and nodded, “Thanks, Prongs.”
When Sirius got home, Remus did in fact malfunction. He couldn’t talk proper words for two whole minuets before he pointed to their room and muttered, “Bed, now.” And Sirius could never say no to his Moony.

Wow I wrote this at a regular hour in the day, hats off to me. This was inspired by @gaybubblehead and my texts about how they hc sirius goes through a phase where he looks just like Barty in terms of style and stuff and I honestly agree he would do that. I mean they came up with the entire idea of this basically and told me I should write it, and for once I actually delivered. lol
So this one’s for you my dude <3
It was silly, I started this with barely any direction and just let the story write its self. I should be writing my Christmas fic butttttt no.

Manipulating Death: Chapter Two
Tumblr media
(Not my gif)
Series Summary: When Harry discovers he has a twin sister that was hiding for years, he wants to know all about her, specially about her ability to bring people back to life.
A/n: Again, English isn't my first language so I'm sorry if I misspell or use the wrong time at any sentence. Also, this is my first time doing a series here on tumblr so please have some patience with little ol' me :))
Chapter One
***********************************************
"So... you're Sirius' brother." Harry started, standing on his feet in the kitchen while the man had his back facing them.
The place was the exact size of the kitchen and dining room from his uncle's house at Privet Drive, only a balcony separating them.
However, the similarities stopped there, the oven was cleaner and looked almost untouched, the cabinets were a little darker and looked rather unstable. The amount of things on the top of each one Harry couldn't even count.
"Yes. And as you seem to know, when I was sixteen I joined the Dark Lord." Regulus replied without looking their way, too focused on brewing tea and cutting pieces of a fresh baked pie which Harry guessed there's where the smell of blackberries came from.
"However, I always knew what he was doing was wrong." To that, Remus scoffed. Regulus proceeded, unbothered. "So I started looking for flaws on his plans, and when I was too deep into that, that's when I died."
He started stacking the cubes of pie, making two pyramids in different plates.
"If you knew it was wrong why didn't you run away? Like Sirius did." Lupin asked, arms crossed and frown never leaving his face.
"You don't know how my mother was like." He simply answered. "Anyways, I died when I was barely eighteen and a couple years later your sister brought me back to life."
"But how?"
However, the answer didn't looked ready to be known by him, because it kept being dodged every time he asked.
This time, it was by a groan coming from the living room.
"You better go see him, he needs a known face so he won't absolutely lose it."
Remus gave Harry a nod, he still didn't trusted Regulus, so he wouldn't, under any circumstances, leave him alone.
"Y'know, Sirius told me a lot about how your family was." He commented on it when the boy left the room.
"I'm sure he did."
"And he also told me how you were your mom's favorite." To that, Regulus only hummed slightly annoyed. "So I'm sorry if I don't see how that can be a bad ambience for you."
"Someone who drowns at ten feet under water is just as dead as someone who drowned at four." The Black finally turned to him, only enough so he could see the professor with the corner of the eye. "I was the favorite because I wasn't a rebel like my brother, so they would put much pressure over me to be the perfect pure blood son."
"And Sirius knew I wanted to run away, I just needed to have something against Voldemort, otherwise my escape would be useless."
With that, he went back to cutting the pie in perfect squares.
Deciding to keep the rest of the questions to when Sirius was present, Remus sighed and the room dived into an uncomfortable silence, being broken only by the sound of knife against the dishes.
Regulus, on his own mind, was trying to organize everything.
What he should tell them, what he shouldn't, what he would deny until the day he died (again).
The thuds from upstairs kept his heart calm, they might not believe him, however they'd probably believe Y/n.
Even if they didn't, they had no idea where the house was, so escaping again would be easy.
"WHAT?!"
Disturbing his peace, Sirius walked in, stomping with eyes wide open and lips parted.
He turned slowly, not moving the hair away from his eyes just in case he needed to hide emotions yet again.
"How... Why... When... HOW?"
"Sirius let's calm down." Remus reached a hand to his shoulder, but got shrugged away by the Black.
"Don't ask me that RIGHT NOW." He screamed, not moving his eyes from the brother. "How are you alive? I remember the day I heard you died. I remember going to your grave. I remember it all too well." He stopped, catching his breath, tears making his eyes sparkle. "So how are you here?"
Regulus dropped the knife into the sink, swallowing thick before looking at Sirius.
"I died." Were the first words that came to his mind. "Just like you just did. And the same way, I was brought back to life."
"When? Who brought you back?"
His lips were sealed. It was not entirety his story to tell.
However, not everyone thought the same.
"Y/n". Sirius' head snapped at Remus. "It was Y/n Potter that brought not only him, but also you back to life."
The older Black looked fast at his godson before looking at his partner marauder.
"Y/n Potter died. Years ago, with James and Lily."
"That's what I thought too, Sirius. But I just seen her. She's alive. I don't know how, don't ask me that."
"So you all knew I have a sister?" Harry shouted, standing on the door.
"The entire Wizarding world silently agreed to never mention her, Harry." Remus started, looking rather guilty. "The night your parents died, everyone that walked into the house looked for Y/n, but not a single soul found her. We just assumed that the what occurred was opposite of what happened to you; that Voldemort had casted such a strong death curse on her, she vanished from existence. It was so horrible to even think about it, no one had the courage to mention it, and it stayed like that."
"When were you going to tell me?"
"When we made sure Voldemort and all his followers were gone." Sirius answered. "Losing your parents is bad enough, losing a twin that her body was never found..." he sighed, "We were scared we'd be giving you hopes she could be alive."
"WELL SHE IS!" Harry screamed, making the marauders take a step back. "SHE BLOODY IS! THAT'S MY SISTER! YOU SHOULD'VE TOLD ME!"
"We know..." Sirius whispered. "And we're deeply sorry, Harry."
Regulus, glad the attention wasn't on him any longer, went back to brewing the tea, not a big fan of knowing what happened when he was gone.
Y/n had told him the basics, Voldemort wasn't back but he knew if all the horcruxes hadn't been destroyed it would be just a matter of time; people still thought Sirius was guilty even though Dumbledore knew the truth, Snape was a teacher at Hogwarts and stuff like that.
The both got used to living a life where they were able to avoid the outside world, and Regulus didn't hate that.
"And you, brother." Once again, peace disturbed. "Why are you living with her?"
"As I said, she brought me back to life and just so happened that a month later you ran away from Azkaban, there were wizards searching for the Black blood everywhere, I couldn't risk it." He explained, sounding bored. "And when everything was settling down, she started having visions of Voldemort and Pettigrew."
"Wait, she had those too?" Harry interrogated, taking steps forward.
"She did. For months. I couldn't leave the house when the man I died to defeat was threatening to come back. So we just decided to live together."
He finished setting up the tray, with the one plate of square pie, teacups and the tea pot, putting it on the table and taking some steps back, his cup ready on the sink with the other plate of pie.
"The man he'd hate the most and the girl he couldn't kill." Sirius added, approaching the table. "In the same place. It's two birds with one stone, you'd be damned if he found out."
"Would you just shut up and eat? Hunger from resurrection is the worst."
He was right, Sirius stomach was aching.
So, despite the harsh words and the frown on his face, he sat down and started devouring the pieces of pie.
"And you guys shouldn't worry about safety. The house is completely sealed, the stairs are too, so are the bedroom doors, and we have special moves if anything happens. Believe me, we're safer together than separated." And took a sip of his tea.
"Where is she, anyway?"
"Speaking of.." Regulus started, hearing rhythmic footsteps coming downstairs.
"What are you doing?" Sirius asked, when his brother pulled a chair and left close to a cabinet, opened a random drawer and grabbed some herbs from one pot that was near the stove.
The three boys seated at the table perked up when the girl walked in the kitchen. Headphones were plugged in her ears and she danced lightly at the song.
Regulus handed the entire plate of pie and she grabbed it with a smile, without saying anything.
And then, the younger Black's behavior started making sense.
The chair he pulled, Y/n used to stand on and reach something above the cabinet. The random drawer he opened, she pulled a potion bottle from it without even looking. Before she started searching for the pot, he handed her the herbs.
It was like he was predicting her every move. Even moving the chair out of the way so she didn't bumped into it.
He knew what she would do, and decided to make things easier.
"She won't listen." Regulus advised when Harry tried to stop her from leaving the kitchen. "She deals with death a lot, and sometimes the voices from the dead get a little too loud so she either sings or listen to music to avoid them."
"Why does she deal with death?" Remus asked the question on everybody's mind.
He sighed, imagining she wouldn't come back from doming the possessor so soon.
"It's a long story and it's hers to tell." He started, making Sirius roll his eyes and Harry's lips were pulled down a little. "But, basically, she's been trying to bring her parents back to life."
"She's WHAT NOW?"
"Don't scream! You'll attract the possessors!" The Black whispered-yelled, gesturing them to stay quiet.
They raised their heads, trying to hear any sound non-human around.
Fortunately, nothing but the basement door opening and closing, Y/n dancing steps disappearing.
"You didn't said anything when Harry was screaming." Sirius mumbled, taking another sip of the tea.
"Because I knew the possessor was with her, before she went to the basement it could've been anywhere."
"She said it wouldn't hurt us." Remus quoted the line the girl had said earlier.
"They're easily atracted to emotions, especially the bad ones. You ever felt the crippling feeling someone was watching you when you were on the edge of dying? You're filled with anger, sadness and fear. They smell it and get ready to take the person's soul."
The dining room was thrown into deep silence, Harry trying to be as still as possible.
Sirius had his eyes wide, the mouthful of pie stopped chewing and Remus held his breath.
"And Y/n is alone with that?"
"She can handle it." Regulus guaranteed. "It's nothing new and no one else here knows how to deal with them."
Harry kept quiet, adjusting his posture as if it'd make him hear a little better. He wished he'd payed attention to the sounds that creature made when it first came out, so he could identify it quicker.
However, nothing but silence came to their ears.
With that problem out of the way, they could focus again on what Regulus said.
"She's trying to resurrect our parents?"
The younger Black pulled a chair and sat down, legs crossed and hands enlaced on his lap.
All eyes were on him once again, waiting for the truth.
"I know you're about to say it's a long story and she should be the one to tell." Sirius interrupted before he even started. "But honestly, we need answers. That girl came outta nowhere, jumped into that motherfucking veil of death and-"
"What?"
Regulus' eyes were now glued to his brother, suddenly interested.
No, scratch that. He was interrogating, staring at the older man like he was about to rip his head off if he didn't repeated the sentence.
"There's this sort of veil that kills you if you go through it. Our beloved cousin hit me with a spell and I fell on it, she came running and entered that, and pulled me out so- why are you looking at me like that?" He stopped the story, clearly bothered by his brother's gaze.
The younger one never looked at him like that before, with such repressed anger.
"Excuse me, I'll be back in a minute." Regulus asked, standing up and marching out of the kitchen.
The three wizards stared at each other for a moment before raced out the room to follow the Black.
While the discussion was happening, Y/n sat on the basement, in complete darkness except for one lonely candle.
Sharing the pieces of pie with the creatures they had caged, song wild on her ears, she was thinking.
How exactly would she tell all of her life to two people who believed she was dead and one who didn't even knew she existed?
It wasn't exactly on her plans to bring her brother, her godfather and her kind of an uncle to her house.
So now, she'd have to smush on her routine some time to answer their questions. And currently, her own questions were ringing on her mind.
What if they didn't trust her? What if they didn't believe her story? What if Harry didn't like her? What if they would trust her but not Regulus?
For years she dreamt of what would happen when they reunited. But in not one of them she thought it'd be like this, escaping Death Eaters and Sirius almost dying without knowing her.
"It really sucks." Murmured to the brand new possessor. It wasn't the biggest one, but it certainly wasn't small. "Wanna know what's worst?" Asked, throwing a piece of blackberry pie to the creature. "I'm probably never going to bring my parents back."
She smiled sadly, looking at the circle of herbs she made on the ground to hold the possessor's power.
The door swung open, and she only noticed because of the light it send all over the room. Pulling the headphones off her ears, fortunately the whispers had settled down and she watched Regulus get closer to her, a very unpleasant look on his face.
"What was our agreement when you left to go to the Ministry?" He asked, hands on his pockets and the girl sighed. He was playing games.
She knew it and he knew she knew.
"That I'd see Harry, only do something if really bad things happened and would get out of there the moment Dearh Eaters showed up." She recited, seeing with the corner of her eyes the other three sneaking to hear their conversation.
"And what did you do?"
"I saw Harry, did something when bad things happened and got out of there. Safe and sound." She added.
"You forgot to mention you went through the veil." His words were sharp and Y/n could swore she saw poison dripping from his mouth.
She started standing up. "Yeah I did. So what? Big deal. Or I should've let your brother die?"
"You weren't prepared. You had zero equipments to help you, do I really need to tell you how everything could've gone wrong?"
The possessors around the room started waking up, glowing scarlet eyes watching them both, seeing their anger and frustration.
"But it didn't! I wasn't going to just stand there and watch Sirius die!"
"You shouldn't even be there! You should've left the moment you saw a Death Eater. You were reckless."
"I was and I'm not sorry for it. I finally met my brother and you got a second chance with yours. Can't we focus on that?"
Regulus kept quiet for some time, anger was bubbling inside him. She had been reckless, could've died and he wouldn't know until way later.
He thought about the three men hearing the discussion - of course he knew they followed him. The Black didn't wanted to give them another reason to think he and Y/n should be apart.
"Fine, I'll focus on that for now, and only for now," she smiled "if you stop this play date and go upstairs, I'm tired of answering all the questions alone."
The girl snorted. "Okay then, but knowing you I'm pretty sure you barely answered one." Taking one more pie square, she started walking. "Come on, they're so curious they forgot what privacy means."
Regulus suppressed a smile when he heard the loud mess of the wizards pretending they weren't listening and started walking with her, leaving the leftovers of the pie, and the candle behind for the possessors.

So Marauders stans tend to like Regulus Black ? Can I know why ? Because he essentially has the same background as Severus, but less developed and less extreme. We're about a wealthy guy, who grew up with disgusting values that he always supported, unlike Sirius, and who only rebelled when his beloved house elf was used as a lab rat by Voldemort and died by taking on an orcrux... So why do they hate Severus exactly ? A poor guy who was mistreated by his father, in addition to being harassed throughout his schooling, then who because of his bad company at school (or rather the few only ones he had since Severus was an outcast, implying that this must have been the only group that truly accepted him, explaining the influence it must have had on him. Because I still remember that Severus is a half blood... Which is what Voldemort's followers are also supposed to hate) became a Death Eater, then recognized his mistake and spent the rest of his life redeeming himself by serving as a double agent before dying for the cause... So, I would like to understand how Severus deserves to be hated and Regulus adored by these people ?
Also, I'm tired of seeing people say that Severus is the worst teacher ever, mistreating his students...
Yes, he was not kind at all to them, but the fact is that he never put them in danger and on the contrary often protected them. He doesn't seem to give unfair grades or impossible assignments. Yes, he shows favoritism towards Slytherin, but Dumbledor, the headmaster of the school himself shows favoritism towards Gryffindor. Let's not talk about Slogorn who actually had his favorite student club ! No teacher is perfect at this shitty school. And sorry, but the case of Neville's fear materializing in the form of Severus doesn't count, because he himself said it could have been his grandmother instead. And Hermione was treated to Minerva telling her that she was essentially failing. So stop with all this bullshit. Severus is not the best teacher in the world, or even not a good teacher at all in terms of relationships with his students, but he is certainly not the worst of the lot in our fetish wizard school.

the birth order for the black siblings goes: walburga, alphard, cygnus. and that alone is enough to make me Crazy
walburga is the oldest, so she should have been the heir. but she's a girl, so of course she isn't. instead, alphard is the heir, and cygnus is the spare
and i think that's so interesting when you think about how walburga married her own cousin, who was the heir of a different branch of the black family
she could never be the heir, so she settled for the next best thing: marrying the heir. but that's not really better, is it? she'll still never be the head of the family, despite being the first born. instead all she is to the family is a wife and a mother. she gets to keep her name, but it's not really hers anymore, is it?
and after alphard is disowned (we'll get back to that in a second), cygnus becomes the heir/head of the family
and then you have the fact that walburga had sons while cygnus only had daughters. cygnus got everything: he could keep his name no matter who he married, he eventually inherited the whole family, but what he never had was a son. someone to carry on his name, someone to inherit everything he had
his daughters would marry and take their husband's name, so he had no true heir. but walburga did. she had two sons
and she clings to that. it's the only thing she has that cygnus doesn't. she's the one who carried on the family name
it's nothing compared to what cygnus has, not really, but she holds that over him. she can never be the heir, but she can mold the next one
now. back to alphard. this is where my own characterization of alphard comes into play, since we have very little canon about him
to me alphard was never suited to being the heir, while his siblings were. and i think there was some bitterness there, with the fact that he was the heir just because he was the oldest boy, even though it should have been walburga or cygnus. to me, alphard rejects the role he was given, and i think walburga sees him in her own sons
sirius, who was also the heir, and who rebelled against the family and was disowned. and regulus, who was never suited to be the heir, who, like alphard, never had what it takes to be the head of the family
alphard leaves sirius money when he dies, despite sirius having been disowned, and because of that walburga burns his name off the family tree
this is the brother who had everything she wanted, everything that should have been hers, because she's the oldest. she's the one who has what it takes to be the heir. but she could never have that because she was born a girl. walburga could never take what she wanted, it's never going to be hers
all she has are sons who are the only heirs left in the family, and her name which is no longers her but her husband's, but now she can burn her brother's name off the tree and disown him. it gives her a small sense of revenge, even if it's meaningless, in the end
alphard's already dead. this won't change anything to him. it's not really a victory for walburga, but it's all that she has
and she clings to it

Pls tell me about oao for the wip ask game
HELLOOO EL my beloved mutual ... oao well.. it's just this silly little thing that i've been working for er ... nearly 2 years 😇 hehe allow me to share some lil deleted snippets with you <3333
from: tuscany part one
Sirius suddenly feels sad and furious all at once. He’s sad that this is a side of Regulus that he’s not allowed to see anymore. He’s furious at Regulus for maintaining this inexplicable distance that seems to have developed between them. Where had everything gone so wrong? Sirius doesn’t even want to answer that question. Where hadn’t it? At some point, they’d stopped talking to each other; Sirius self-destructed and tore through that house like a comet. Regulus retreated so far into himself that Sirius is certain that he left a part of himself behind in that house. Sirius doesn’t blame him. Sometimes he feels the same; that he’s permanently lost a vital part of himself. Perhaps that’s why Sirius is so desperate for love; to feel loved. To feel wanted. To fill the void he feels inside himself. To fill the gaping wound inside himself. And, if Sirius is honest with himself, he’s jealous. He’s horribly, dangerously jealous: he’s jealous that Regulus, who grew up in the same loveless environment as him, has found not just one but two people to spend his life with. Sirius couldn’t even hold down one. And if he’s honest with himself, what Alphard had said the day before had been completely right: the love had long worn off between him and Emmeline. He’d clung to her like a raft. The fear of being alone was worse than whatever hadn’t been working between them.
from: tuscany part two
Sirius remembers the way that Walburga’s face would ripple and contort, her mouth a tight, white line as she’d say, ‘Regulus is a good child, quiet. Not like you were.’ Her comments always perplexed Sirius. he doesn’t remember himself ever making much noise at all. In fact, most of Sirius’s childhood memories involve him trying to take up as little space as possible.  He remembers the time that they passed Hamleys and he got a bit teary-eyed because Walburga always refused to let him go inside. He remembers her eyes flaring like quicksilver and the tight grasp of her hand around his wrist as she led him to a nearby restaurant bathroom. He remembers how the lemongrass soap had burned on his tongue for hours afterwards. He’s never liked lemon, since.  He has plenty of other memories just like it, accompanied by all the others that he tries his best to forget. Even now, Regulus will make the odd comment about how Sirius rebelled, in ways both small and large, quiet and loud. Sirius doesn’t remember those moments. What he does remember is trying to make himself so small, so quiet and insignificant, that he constantly felt like he was bursting at the seams.  Sirius remembers trying so hard, all the time. Regulus remembers Sirius not trying at all. He’s always found it strange how people remember the same events. He wonders how it felt when he was even younger and didn’t know any better than to throw himself down on the ground and scream. Sirius wonders if he’s ever really, truly screamed. He feels like he’s stuck there, sometimes. Stuck in that limbo, that precipice, between a child who screams because they don’t know better, and a child who no longer needs to scream because they’ve learnt how to process their emotions in other ways. Yet, Sirius doesn’t scream, and he doesn’t throw a tantrum. Instead, he slouches back in his seat and stares out the window.
from: berlin??? i think..
The pieces start to slot into place. He remembers their uni years, and how Remus would disappear every night for a few hours, always to reappear looking pink cheeked and messy haired. Even when their lives started to become more separate, their flats scattered across different London boroughs, Remus would always find his way back to Sirius’s flat at the end of the night. He remembers Emmeline the first few times it happened, face drawn and tired, answering the door at 4 am. “It’s Remus,” she’d say, tired and annoyed. “Isn’t there somewhere else he can stay? He has his own flat—“ Then, after the twentieth, fiftieth time, nothing. Remus would always be gone in the morning. They never talked about it. It never struck Sirius as odd until now.

not you ranting 💀 it’s misogynistic to make Harry regulus child when Lily is the mom not regulus GODDAMN.
bro..,.. they’re not real. go touch some grass
listen ive seen people being misogynistic towards lily in order to favor jegulus. it does happen and i wont deny it, however i will simply just stay away from it and not interact. im way more interested in evolving lilys character and give her her own narrative instead of just using her to hate a mlm ship and claim to be feminist about it. like it’s fandom. make your own goddamn peace and create a space that you fucking enjoy. yall are not trying to defend lily when yall do this you’re just trying to be anti jegulus and using her to do it
no one is saying that regulus is ’the mom’ but like. people can do whatever the fuck they want. if people dont want to write lily but they want to write jegulus being harrys parents then by fucking god let them. who CARES. i wont interact with it and it doesnt interest me but oh my fucking god it’s fandom. people are out here writing mpreg and a/b/o and tentacle porn and incest and whatever the fuck else. this is simply not a problem. none of it is. its fandom and its free and its for fun
(i never see any of you complaining about tonks glaring absence in wolfstar teddy fics……..)
just don’t interact if it bothers you. i have things i wont interact with and topics i find problematic, so i stay the fuck away from it. no one is profiting and no one has to fucking read it. its not being advertised and its not being goddamn taught in schools
i will always defend lily and my priority is simply evolving her characters and giving her a narrative that just simply isn’t being a mom or a wife. like bro im in the middle of writing a lily character study canon divergence fic where she simply wasnt home when voldemort came and she doesnt save harry with the power of ’motherly love’. it will be morally grey and highly disturbing and a lot of people wont want to read it. however i want to write it to rebel against her doomed narrative in canon as a dead wife and mother. she wont necessarily be likeable or someone to root for but thats what i want to explore in my goddamn fanfiction
yall are acting as if some people writing regulus being harrys parent actually has a broad negative impact on the political climate or some shit as if its not just a silly little thing people do online bc it makes them happy. GO OUTSIDE…. TURN OFF YOUR PHONE…..????
and as i said. i simply wont interact with lily bashing but that’s just me. that’s my preference. i will consider interacting with this trope if lily just simply isnt involved. HOWEVER. THATS JUST ME. PEOPLE DO WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT.
it’s fandom. it’s not real. no one is profiting. there are no editors involved except for lovely people who will sometimes beta. it’s not professionally done. it’s free. it’s an outlet to be silly and fun and explore dynamics. these are fictional characters that do not exist

Hello! I recently found your account, and I went on scrolling down and down...and now I hope you know how grateful I am. Thank u- Merci. About 90% of the content you share here has made me feel so much better. I realllyy hope wonderful things happen for you. I've been a fan of hp since 2001, but I'm not really a social media person so I haven't been active in the fandom. I had no idea what was happening here until recently..two months ago to be exact (other details are not important) and omg.. I ended up in a discussion with some I think, new fans. tbh I thought, "Great! I'm good at this, I read all the books more than once Let's talk :)"  and omg their very first question was "What do you think about Regulus?"
I was like, "Who?" *dying from secondhand embarrassment bc It turns out I'm not that good at this
but as the discussion continued, I became more and more baffled bc "Why was everyone talking about Barty, Evan, and Regulus? who is daddy Remu? and what do you mean people ship James Potter with R.A.B.? What?"
I swear for a moment I thought "Did the writer publish a new book? Did I miss something? " tbh, I respect everyone's opinion it's none of my business but I'm still shocked. The only thing that bothers me is everything that happened with this new Wolfsar
omg, for most fans around my age (or at least people I know), Sirius was the complete portrayal of a bad boy- a rebel, with boots, tattoos, a leather jacket, and a fucking motorcycle. so this new Sirius is like a stranger to me, and that's okay. Mein issue is kinda with this new Remus T T my beloved .
They (the fans I was talking with) told me Remus is "tall, so handsome, SO strong, and hot-headed person because,  yk he's a werewolf." I was like "hot headed? excuse me?" I tried to explain to them that Remus being a werewolf is a metaphor for illnesses like HIV, it's not some superpowery gift.  they didn't believe me, but then they literally looked me in the face and said, "Then why would Sirius like someone like him? He's poor, short, and ugly." I swear I wanted to cry right then and there.
What is this mindset that makes some people think that a person should be, Idk, hot and flawless to deserve to be loved? Yes I don't think Remus is tall and super hot and perfect and isn't it fine? and I am 100% sure he's so beautiful. not like Sirius ofc but he has this "warm, cozy, and soft" sort of beauty. and I don't think he was a coward (ok maybe he was a liitle) but I guess it's easier for us, humans, to take the worst or weakest moment of a character and amplify it until it defines them entirely. and omg I'm so sorry for my rant and my bad english. but once again thank you for your beautiful soul <3 thank you
Hi anon! I, too, am baffled by the recent obsession with Regulus in this fandom. I think Jegulus is fine as a crack ship, but it has become so mainstream that many fans have just gone ahead and canonized it to the point that you'll be vilified for not accepting it as canon. I underestimated how popular the "best friend's brother" trope was, apparently. I also think it appeals to many fans as a Marauders Era version of one of the most popular ships of all time, Drarry.
This new version of Wolfstar is my biggest complaint with today's fandom, too! I get that the Marauders have very limited canon information and therefore we have more creative freedom to flesh them out, but I really believe that it has gone way too far. Sirius and Remus in today's fandom don't bear any resemblance to the characters they're based on. Remus is just a generic alpha werewolf OC and Sirius is his generic himbo femboy love interest OC. They don't even share a physical description with their Canon counterparts, and their personalities and character traits are so far removed that I can't even fathom how we reached this point as a fandom. How can you claim to like these characters if you have to change everything the source material says about them?
You're English is great, by the way! I completely agree that Remus has a cozy-and-warm sort of beauty. He made a point to distance himself from the stigma surrounding Lycanthropy because it was the focal point of his shame and self-loathing. And I just adore Wolfstar's dynamic from this lens, with the intimidatingly beautiful, confident, headstrong Sirius Black, who could have his pick of anyone he wants, choosing this ordinary guy because he's cozy and soft and it's exactly what Sirius wants after surviving the harsh ideals and abuse of House Black.

Lay All Your Love On Me
Sirius Black x Fem!Reader
Summary: Sirius has always been your friend, but he falls in love with you and decides to confess his feelings at the sound of ABBA at a party.
Word Count: 2.2k
Warnings: Alcohol, shitty family and mentions of mental health.
A/N: Technically, this is not historically accurate bc this story happens at the sixth year (1976) and ''Lay all Your Love on me'' was first released at 1980, so just use your imagination.
Tumblr media
Sirius Orion Black never thought he would one day find love. He never received love from his own family, and even the love he felt for Reg was difficult because Regulus was the shy little boy. Sirius was the rebel, which meant Regulus had to hear that Sirius was a bad influence all along and, unfortunately, when everyone says you shouldn't be in someone's company, it becomes tough to maintain a good, normal relationship with that someone.
But everything changed when Sirius arrived at Hogwarts.
He thought the rest of his life would be miserable because he went to Gryffindor and not Slytherin like his whole family. But he became friends with James, then with Remus and then with Peter. He has finally found his true family.
In the second year, he met you. You, his future best friend and partner in crime, his biggest confidant; who would give him a comforting hug, so he could cry because he had no words to say how broken he was, and you wouldn't insist on talking because you always understood him, even without words. You were his great love, his world, his everything.
Obviously, you didn't know that.
He would rather die than lose you because he was sure you would never feel the same. You were perfection itself; you were all the good the world had to offer, for Merlin's sake.
Besides, you were his best friend.
God, he hated that word so much.
It brings us to this exact point where Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup and a party is going on in their common room, and you obviously were here because you've always loved supporting James and Sirius, and you could have fun with Remus, Lily, Marlene and Dorcas. Sirius has been watching you throughout the party because you looked stunning. You were wearing a simple black dress, and you didn't do anything different with your hair, but you could have fought a family of dragons alone, and you'd still be the most beautiful girl in the world in Sirius' opinion.
Sirius saw a guy flirting with you at the start of the party, and he instantly sulked. He knew he had no right to be jealous, but he couldn't help but feel a pang in his chest as that random guy made you throw your head back while you laughed. So Padfoot decided to try to distract himself from his grief by drinking Firewhiskey. He drank a lot, but he was so used to alcohol that he needed more than just a few sips to lose control of his own mind. So, at the moment, he was simply tipsy.
The eldest child of the Black family was dancing, talking loudly to James and having a good time, managing by some miracle not to think about you for a while, when the first notes of “Lay All Your Love On Me” started playing on the record player that some muggle-born brought to the party. ABBA was your favourite musical group, and Sirius just couldn't stand you singing one of their songs every thirty minutes. He loved you as much as a man could love a woman, but you definitely knew how to get out of tune sometimes.
Before he could stop himself, Padfoot's eyes met his and, just like any other occasion when this happened, his heart raced and he felt his cheeks start to turn red. But at that exact moment, he realized something: he was tired of loving you from afar. He loved being his friend, but he needed to know if you'd be able to do him the honour of tasting the lips he's fantasized about for years. If you would give him your permission to hold you in his arms to make you feel loved and safe. If you'd be as happy as he would be if the two of you held hands as you walked to Hogsmeade in front of everyone, showing that you belonged together. Being her friend was no longer enough. He would respect you if you didn't want to be his girl, but if there were a minimum chance to you to accept his heart, he definitely wouldn't waste it.
Taking advantage of the fact that one of your favourite songs was playing, he decided to tell you how he felt about you. He climbed on the table and started singing the song that translated exactly how he felt about you.
I wasn't jealous before we met,
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
He had absolutely no pride in feeling like punching any boy in the face who flirted with you because, as much as he hated to admit it, he was so insecure. Throughout his childhood, he was told that he was replaceable and an embarrassment to the family and, except for Andromeda and Regulus, he never felt that anyone truly loved him. His self-esteem undoubtedly improved after he made friends and discovered who he really was, but the feeling that he was unlovable and alone never went away. If you were his girlfriend, he would respect and trust you completely, but he always felt that any boy in the world would be much better for you than he is. And it just tore him apart.
And I'm possessive, it isn't nice
You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice
Remembering that brought a smile to his face. You always hated your smoking habits. Every time you saw him lighting a cigarette, you would look at him with daggers in his eyes or launch into an extremely long rant about how nicotine would "ruin your lungs." Every time you did that, he rolled his eyes and had to stop himself from shutting you up with his lips.
But now it isn't true
Now everything is new
And all I've learned has overturned
I beg of you
One thing he never told you is that he has a collection of…well, you. Since he was 12, he kept all the things you gave him and all the little things that remind him of you in a white box under his bed. Everything. All the little drawings you made in the middle of potions class in the corner of the parchment. All the coloured pebbles you gave him in third grade when you had that iconic hippie phase. The Queen concert tickets you gave him for his birthday, the pressed flower that he always forgets the name of but reminds him of you. He looks at these things every night before he falls asleep.
Remus, James and Peter found out about the box (and consequently his love for you) two years ago and ever since then, it's been a nightmare because every time they saw you talking to Padfoot, and they were pretty sure you wouldn't. Noticing them, the three marauders would make kissing sounds, hands hearts and all that embarrassing shit you do to embarrass and annoy your friends when they have a crush right behind you, so only Sirius would see them.
Even with his friends irritating him, Sirius was very grateful to have them to help him deal with his feelings. He has never been in love and he never thought he would because all the members of the Black family had arranged marriages, so now that he loves someone he has no idea what to do. He just wanted you to love and care for him as much as he loves and cares for you. Not only that, he wanted you. You to be his and the privilege to belong to you.
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your Love on Me
Sirius' family and life are completely messed up, he knew that. But even with his relapses, he was fine. Not many people can say that, but he was fine. Yes, he has a lot of problems, and sometimes he feels sad, but he, (Sirius realized as he sang in front of all the people at the party) was genuinely happy. He no longer feels the emptiness in his chest that he used to feel when he was younger. He had the best friends he could ask for, he had you, and his mental health is stable.
So yes, he has relatively heavy baggage, but who doesn't? You have many flaws. You have your traumas and your past, but Sirius was willing to overcome them because he loved you. He would never ignore them, make them seem less important, or treat her like a china doll because of it. He would just accept that they exist and he would love you unconditionally because he wanted everything from you. Sirius wanted the fights and the disagreements and the arguments, as ugly and terrible as they were because they would be with you; and everything is better with you.
He would try to be the best man in the world for you because that's what you deserve. He would respect your time and your limits and care much more for you than he does for himself. Sirius wouldn't be perfect, but he would try his best because it would make you happy and as long as you were happy, so would he.
It was like shooting a sitting duck
A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck
I still don't know what you've done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
He still remembers the exact moment he realized he was in love with you. Sirius and you had just started the fifth year and you both were under the tree beside the dark lake. It was an autumn afternoon and it was very windy, so there was no one around the two of you. You were telling Sirius about your family and how unforgettable your vacation was. You and your cousins went to your aunt's beach house and since you and your mom were the only witches in the family, you and your parents had a lot of funny moments when your whole family went to the beach and you had contact with a lot of families Muggles and their powers sometimes got out of control. He was crying with laughter because you sneezed next to a couple and you and your cousins had to find a way to make the woman's beach bag stop floating without them realising that something was really wrong with you.
You and he were just being two stupid teenagers, but at that moment Sirius realized that you were his favourite person. And he would die a happy man if he spent the rest of his days listening to the sound of your voice because it always made him feel warm inside. He never realized that you had the most beautiful eyes in the world, or how much he wanted to kiss you. He wanted to spend the rest of the day with you and he wanted to see you old and grey. Sirius was 100% sure that you would look beautiful.
The moment he realized that he froze in shock. You got worried and suggested a glass of water and he was so stunned he just nodded. After a few sips, he said he was fine but needed sleep. He spent the rest of the day lying in bed and looking at the roof, wondering what he would do now.
I feel a kind of fear
When I don't have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear
The song ended and it took him a few seconds to realize it. Everyone in the common room was cheering enthusiastically, but the only person Sirius cared about at the moment was you. He got off the table and walked over to you, who was still looking at him with confusion and amusement in your eyes. He took your hand and practically dragged you to his dorm. Once there, he made you sit on his bed and closed the door.
"I'm in love with you Y/n," He said, staring at the door, not being able to meet your eyes.
“I meant every word I sang. I've loved you for two years and the war is coming and I can't let anything happen to either of us without telling you that my heart will always belong to you, Y/n/n." He took a deep breath and looked at you, who still was sitting on his bed.
You were extremely surprised. How would you not? Your best friend was confessing his love for you, and you definitely didn't expect that. You were so afraid of hurting him or ruining your friendship, but...
"I love you too," you said. Being unable to stop smiling.
You caught a glimpse of Sirius immediately turning to you and walking towards you until there were only inches keeping you two apart.
"A-are you serious?" He looked so shocked and you felt your heart break for him. Sirius clearly didn't think he was worthy of his love, but you would spend the rest of your days showing him how wonderful he was and how much you adored him.
You stood on tiptoe and kissed him, and Sirius felt himself melt. It took him a few seconds to kiss you back, but when he finally realized what was happening, he cupped your cheek with his left hand and put his right arm around your waist.
Neither of you has ever felt as complete as you do right now, in each other's arms. And you both wanted it to be this way until the end of the times
