Hi Lana, hope you're well. Could you recommend some Italian songs? I remember finding Ornella Vanoni's 'L'appuntamento' through your blog and really loving it.
Hello! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it! All of Vanoni's songs are divine but I absolutely adore Dettagli, La voglia, la pazzia and Senza fine and I can't recommend them enough, they're magic. Also, anything by Fabrizio De André, Gino Paoli, Fred Buscaglione, and Renato Carosone. Additionally:
Malafemmena, Roberto Murolo

Good news…… I remembered monochrome Monday. Like yesterday we are on the roof of the Duomo di Milano, this time looking over the city of Milan. I love how monochrome photography and old buildings work together! ©️Kurtis De Paoli

Tips on how to bet on the system to get at baccarat
Tumblr media
Start your current day healthy today. Today, I would really prefer in order to take the moment to introduce several of the associated money management and even system betting methods, and also a brief advantages to baccarat, a new game called the flower of typically the casino. Baccarat is one of these simple casino game titles, however the deeper an individual dig, the less difficult it is to get excited about its outstanding charm. It may be said that is it doesn't most associate game of the most famous casino game as the poker game. It is a game in which a couple of cards are presented to the banker and the gamer, respectively, and the one with all the greatest number of on the lookout for at the max of the sum of typically the numbers wins. Success is the top priority for most individuals who enjoy enjoying baccarat, so let's look at the particular know-how on cash management in depth. Money management is usually so important, also known as the winning method of baccarat, because this is linked to the lead to of significant failures. Most of the reasons people that lose money quickly reduce in baccarat will be because they increase their risk by simply placing large gamble. You might get wondering what might happen in case you bet 1/4 of the game out of your $100 stake. Associated with course, you may succeed large sums in case you win, nevertheless, you need to end up being careful as possible lose your bet funds instantly with the out of balance betting method. Before challenging betting, remember to learn the basics of the several 'system betting methods' basic strategies. Right now there are five betting methods for typically the Baccarat strategy method: the Goodman program, the 10 percent system, the Charlie Game system, the Paroli system, in addition to the 31 technique. We will focus on the two nearly all popular 10% devices and the Paroli system. The 10% system is a new betting method exactly where you bet regarding 10% of the cash. It is just about the most recommended betting options for beginners as that is a fairly easy system to minimize threat while ensuring cash management. Even with the Baccarat method system betting approach through which Zano increases beyond the overall capital in the case of ten consecutive wins, right now there is no probability of losing cash instantly, although you may gamble about 10% of the funds you may have. The most important advantage is that you can easily increase your finances significantly if an individual win a reward, but you can quickly recover it even in the event that you lose money. The Paoli method is a procedure for wagering two battles of the winnings acquired at the period of betting, plus the risk returned towards the player is reduced by increasing the particular bet amount as the player is being successful. The betting approach may vary dependent on the player's disposition, but the most daring and winning betting approach is when betting one chip or even two chips. In case you win 8 in the row, you may win 256 snacks with one chip and lose ten chips. This technique has the benefit of winning a huge prize with some sort of small amount associated with money, but the disadvantage of coming back the winning merit to 0 won if you lose even once. That is said that this more pros a player is, the more unlikely they will are to go all-in or get beaten in typically the casino. So inside that sense, should you be betting intending to make up for lost money, you might be at a loss. The almost all crucial point regarding the system betting method mentioned over would be to pursue some sort of mechanical betting method without being shaken not any matter what situation approaches and to be able to exclude emotions many of these as casino vengeance. What is some sort of side bet on baccarat sites? Baccarat can be a game that will wins as the particular 'one's digit' is closer to nine in the amount of the figures in your hand. Most players tip their bets upon whether the player will certainly win or the banker will earn. Here, side gambling bets are betting on items other than the particular main bet. 1) Pair bet: Betting on whether typically the first two greeting cards received after splitting into banker couple and player couple will have the similar number 2) Link bet: betting of which the banker's plus player's hands may have the same benefit 3) Bonus Baccarat: Receive high benefits according to the difference within card value Exactly why are you side-betting? You may get are you wondering why side wagers are made. The cause for side-betting is that you simply can expect better returns. This will be because the possibilities of side wagers go from 2x to 4x, or even even approximately 15x. So you will shoot for high profits by side betting. It's OK to make the adventure enjoyable, but an individual can lose a new lot of funds if you perform it too frequently, so be sure to think carefully and weigh your odds prior to trying. As the particular vast payouts recommend, chances of winning side bets are not high. At this time there are also not necessarily many strategic know-hows related to half betting. It is definitely a challenging industry to succeed inside, and there are not many because it is minor. You could get a whole lot of money by simply investing a smaller sized amount you might get in a new regular game, thus there aren't a lot of people who succeed at this, that could be the explanation. Tips for success throughout side betting? In the event that you are the user who wishes to make some sort of high profit in the baccarat site, side betting is usually essential. So, a few see how you can flourish in aspect betting with decrease risk. The first of all thing is usually to technique it probabilistically somewhat than jumping in blindly and taking care of the seed money. You have to work in order to keep betting the certain amount plus not lose the seed money. Section Bet Success Ideas The odds are incredibly high and attractive. To learn the possibility of winning or losing, you have to build your skills. 피망바카라

I'm listening to a podcast about Napoleon, and I had previously been under the impression the first thing of note after growing up had been his contributions at the siege of Toulon, but there's a while bit of pretty wild history regarding Corsican independence and the figure of Pasquale Paoli - kinda the che guevara of his age, his fight (and shortlived rule of Corsica) in the mid 1700s being a massive cause celeb. Paoli came back to Corsica under the auspices of the French Revolution in the 1790s, and Napoleon ended up on his bad side and subjected to a Vendetta, which in Corsica meant a literal bloodfued. After the revolutionary government lost control of Corsica in 1793 to Paoli, Napoleon had to trek across the highlands to get to a ship to safety. The first people he encountered were some shepherds with clan ties to the Bonapartes, who helped him get to safety, and apparently remembered their names until he died and left them a small fortune in his will (though skimming through his will I couldn't find them, but there are a lot of people in there).

Rosanna Franceschetti-Serpentini and other Corsican heroines
In 1729, the island of Corsica was under the rule of the republic of Genoa, Italy. The local people rose against their overlords, which led to a conflict that lasted forty years before being fully resolved.
Many women distinguished themselves during this struggle. One of them was the daughter of the rebel leader Fabio Vinciguerra. Described as being of a warlike disposition, she swore revenge when her father was assassinated by the governor. Taking the head of his troops, she was known for the brutality with which she fought the Genoese soldiers. In 1739, the wife of Bartolo of Barbaggio acquired similar fame for her courage in battle.
In 1746, Faustina Gaffory, defended her home in Corte from the Genoese with a handful of companions. Seeing their energies falter, she showed her comrades a powder barrel and threatened to blow-up the house. The defenders thus kept fighting.

In 1761, the women of Tenco defended their town. One of them, Josephine Jacobi armed herself and joined the fray. Other women imitated her and fought. Animated by their example, the defenders repelled the besiegers.
Several women fought at the battle of Borgo in 1769 on the side of the Corsican patriot and military leader Pasquale Paoli. Magistrate and memorialist Salvatore Viale described them as armed with rifle and knife, sharing the perils of war with their husbands.
Among them was Rosanna Franschetti-Serpentini who fought alongside her husband, an officer. She was dressed in male attire and “always well armed”. She was nicknamed “the heroine” or “our captain”. Rosanna notably defeated a French officer in hand-to-hand combat (since French troops had landed in Corsica after Genoa sold the island to France). When she saw that her side had to retreat, she freed her captive and said: “Remember that a Corsican woman overcame you and gave you back your sword and freedom”.

Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf
1755-01-11: Olivia and Alexander Hamilton’s Birth - Olivia and Alexander were born in Charlestown, St. Kitts, and Nevis.
1765-01-16: Hamilton’s Father Left - James Hamilton, Olivia and Alexander Hamilton's father, and a Scottish Laird, left Hamilton and his family, most likely due to the fact, Olivia, Alexander, and James Jr. were his illegitimate children. It was a relief for the children because he would always beat up James Jr. and Olivia, trying to protect their youngest sibling.
1766-02-17: Hamilton’s Mother Dies - Rachel Faucette Buck, Hamilton's mother, died on February 19, 1768. Cause of death: Yellow Fever. After her death, Alexander and Olivia moved to live with their cousin for a year. Before she died, she gave Olivia the Hamilton ring (gold ring, amethyst pearl-shaped center, and small emerald cut emeralds) that was said to be passed down from generation to generation and a navy blue and dark purple diary, she gave Alexander her necklace from George (5 sapphire petals, a red ruby center, and a thin gold chain).
1766-02-20: Hamiltons In Court - John Lavien (Rachel’s husband) arrived wanting a divorce decree. He wanted the court to reward the entire estate to his son, Peter because the twins were illegitimate. Alexander and Olivia had their uncle, James Lytton, sign a false birth year for court documents that had them add two years their senior. The only thing they got was books taken from Peter, thanks to their uncle.
1767-02-17: Hamilton’s Cousin Committed Suicide and James Jr. Left to Become a Carpenter- Peter Lytton committed suicide over the death of his wife. Alexander and Olivia are now, with no money and family, or destitute orphans. James Jr had to leave the twins behind to become an apprentice of a carpenter.
1771-01-16: Alexander In Charge Of A Trading Charter - Since girls couldn’t work, Alexander had to. Turns out, that Alexander had the perfect “age” for jobs.
1772-08-31: Hurricane Maria Hits - Hurricane Maria hit St. Croix, where Alexander was working and Olivia was nearby to look out for her younger brother.
1772-09-06: Alexander Writes About Hurricane Maria - Alexander wrote to his father describing the storm and gained the attention of the island’s elite. He “wrote his way out”.
1772-12-01: Olivia Receives a Letter That Alexander Died - Somewhere between these months, Olivia gets a letter that the ship Alexander was on sunk and there were no survivors. She was then sold to a family in Setauket, Long Island as a slave, where she meets Benjamin Tallmadge, Anna Smith, Abraham Woodhull, and Caleb Brewster.
1776-09-15: Olivia Gets Freed - Thankfully Olivia was considered white, so she was taught how to improve her grammar, writing, healing, cooking, etc. She still had her Nevis accent, but Olivia could play it off by saying Spanish was her native language. Speaking of languages, Olivia was fluent in French, Latin, Greek, Italian, Danish, and Hebrew. 4 or so years later, Olivia was a free woman.
1777-04-27: Olivia Reunites With Alexander - Olivia gets assigned as a spy for the continental army. The rest of the army gets word that she had the same last name as Alexander’s. After being reintroduced to each other, Olivia forces Alexander to take more care of himself (eating, sleeping).
1777-09-11: Olivia gets shot in the side during the Battle of Brandywine.
1777-10-18: Olivia And Alexander Presumed Dead - Both Hamilton twins jumped in the Schuylkill River and swam deeper, hoping the British Cavalry presumed them dead. They were washed down miles going with the current of the river. Alexander carried her unconscious body to the Patriot camp. Hercules Mulligan found the twins and helped them get to their destination quicker.
1777-10-19: Washington Finds Out The Twins Are His - Olivia woke first and told Washington to read her diary for answers because she was too tired. He found out about Olivia’s life story and found out Olivia Rachel and Alexander James Hamilton were his biological children. Washington then found out about the Hamilton family ring and Rachel’s flower necklace. Olivia and Washington swore to never tell this to Alexander and to any human being (not a certain diary written in code that no one, but Olivia and Alexander can understand).
1777-10-20: Olivia sneaks off to the Battle of Paoli, instead of resting.
1777-10-21: The Locket - Washington gave Olivia a gold locket engraved with ‘Together In Mount Vernon, Virginia’ complete with a gold chain. Inside was a portrait of the Hamilsiblings (Alex, Olivia, Ben, and Laf) on the right and a portrait of the Washington couple on the left.
1778-05-25: Olivia Comes Back - After disguising herself as a black-haired, Dutch woman, named Denise Melody, she returned to Washington about the British army. Olivia resigned as a spy because she didn’t want to come back to England ever again. But mostly, she was afraid that King George III would force her to marry him.
1778-05-26: Olivia Becomes The First Woman General - After listening from every soldier in the Continental Army, General George Washington makes Olivia a General. The only difference is that she would be traveling with the main camp because she doesn't have enough experience to lead her own army. She helped train the under-trained soldiers, sewed clothes for those who were practically naked, negotiated with wealthy families to give the army food, helped with the battle plans because of her knowledge as a spy, and her overall kindness and empathy to everyone helped her rise to the top to not only the soldiers but to the rest of the people in the Colonies.
1778-06-28: The Battle of Monmouth - Olivia saves Benjamin Tallmadge from William Bradford when Charles Lee ordered him to. The rest of the army arrives behind Washington. Olivia participates in the Battle of Monmouth.
1778-09-15: Olivia And Lafayette’s Relationship - In Olivia’s diary, she didn’t specify the date because she wrote “I believe it is the 15th of September 1778”. In the entry, she wrote about her and Lafayette’s relationship began as platonic but over time, it became romantic.
1778-11-01: Olivia Joins The Culper Ring - After begging and pleading to her father and Commander in Chief, Olivia joins the Culper Spy Ring with the rest of the members: Benjamin Tallmadge, Caleb Brewster, Anna Strong, Abigail, Abraham Woodhull, and Robert Townsend. Olivia gets a golden band from Apollo that helps disguise her appearance with the use of the mist, she gives the other rings to the other members. They created a cover that the golden rings were from their deceased family member. In reality, they used it to signal the others when they need help or have information about the British.
1778-12-15: Olivia As a Maid - Olivia disguises herself as a beaten and branded girl as a Caribbean slave, even though she was white by the Continental Army to John André's home to spy on him. She later resigns from her post before her next battle.
1779-07-16: Stony Point - Olivia helps capture Stony Point, New York with the army.
1779-11-17: Olivia And John Get Married - To keep the relationship between John and Alexander less suspicious, Olivia proposed a marriage proposal to John’s father; Henry, who knew about their secret relationship, agreed. Even though both adults were married, they had no love for the other than familial love. They agreed that their marriage was only public and behind closed doors, they would seek out their paramour (John-Alexander and Olivia-Lafayette).
1780-06-17: Olivia’s Quadruplets - 9 months later, Olivia gave birth to 4 children: Rachel Olivia, Alexander John, George Benjamin, and Elizabeth Gilberta Laurens from oldest to youngest. The godparents of each child were Olivia-Martha Washington, Alexander-George Washington, George-Benjamin Tallmadge, and Elizabeth-Lafayette. Because of this, Olivia took a break from the army for a while.
1780-09-23: Caleb Brewster and Olivia Find Out Arnold's A Traitor - After talking with Anna Strong, Brewster and Olivia ride full speed towards West Point, NY to deliver the message to George Washington. Ben and Olivia tried to shoot Arnold, but due to their closeness, they couldn't.
1780-10-02: John André Hanged - André was born a child of Athena and knew about the Greek Gods. He knew that Olivia was spying on him, but didn't comment on it until they were in private before his execution. The Fates had cut his string in front of him when Olivia posed as a maid and had demigod dreams of his death. John knew that Olivia was a legacy of Apollo and Athena, he didn't want to hurt his family.
1780-12-14: Alexander and Eliza Get Married - Eliza accepted John’s relationship with her husband as long as Alexander doesn’t cheat on her with other women.
1780-12-15: Olivia Boards L'Hermione - Olivia joins Lafayette to bring down turncoat Benedict Arnold. They join 1, 200 troops and sail south to Virginia.
1781-05-20: Abraham Boards L'Hermione - Abraham gets captured by the French and gave information to Lafayette, but before anything else happens, the ship gets attacked by cannons. When Brewster and Olivia identify Abraham as a spy for the Culper Ring named Samuel Culper Sr, they sail to Yorktown, Virginia.
1781-09-28: The Battle Of Yorktown - Olivia gets shot 3 times during the battle but recovered soon after. Lafayette soon bid Olivia farewell to sail back to France. Olivia gives him her very long lock of braided hair inside a portrait locket necklace of her for him to remember her by. He also gives her a braided lock of his hair and a portrait locket of himself.
1782-01-22: Olivia Becomes An Aunt - Phillip Hamilton was born.
1782-08-27: John Laurens Dies - Olivia, Alexander, Hercules, and Lafayette get letters from Henry Laurens that John died in South Carolina. In her letter, Olivia receives her husband’s wedding ring. Heartbroken, Olivia vows to never marry again.
1782-09-01: Olivia And Alexander Return To New York - Olivia gets a house in Harlem near her brother and his family. She led a quiet life with her children, unlike Alexander, for a while.
1783-01-01: Olivia Bids Angelica Farewell - Over the course of the years, Olivia and Angelica became best friends. She hated the fact that Angelica and her family would go back to the same country they fought for years.
1783-06-20: Pennsylvania Mutiny - Olivia watches the 10 leaders of the Pennsylvania Mutiny be gunned down by their own men beside Alexander and Ben.
1783-09-03: The End Of The Revolution - The Treaty of Paris was finally signed which negotiated between America and Great Britain, ended the revolution, and recognized America as an independent.
1787-10-?: Alexander Asks Olivia To Co-Write The Federalist Papers - Sometime before the writing of the Federalist Papers, Alexander asks Olivia to co-write it with John Jay, James Madison, and himself. Olivia politely declined because she believed that the three men could do it without her.
1787-05-25: The Twins Go To The Constitutional Convention - Olivia Hamilton Laurens and Alexander Hamilton were one-half of the New York delegates. The former was the only woman to go to the Constitutional Convention. Though the twins did little in writing the Constitution, they signed the paper anyway.
1789-02-04: Olivia Becomes The First Woman Vice President - Olivia ran for President all in good fun. The results were unanimous because she was one of the contributing factors that helped America become independent, only second to George Washington, and became the Vice President of the United States.
1790-03-22: Olivia Meets Thomas Jefferson - When Jefferson and Olivia met, let’s just say that they will forever be enemies. This is partly the reason why Alexander and Jefferson were also enemies.
1790-06-20: Olivia Refuses To Go To The Jefferson Dinner - Olivia doesn’t go to the dinner with Jefferson, Madison, Alexander, and a few others saying she had other things to do. But she doesn’t go because she didn’t want to be caught in the middle of a verbal fight between Alexander and Jefferson, again.
1791-07-05: Olivia Finds Out About Alexander’s Affair - Alexander needed to speak to someone about his affair with Maria Reynolds, so he went to Olivia (naturally). Olivia slaps him and tells him about his promise to Eliza when he married her. She tells him if her husband finds out and tells/writes you to give him money to keep the affair a secret, he himself would pay entirely.
1792-?-?: Olivia Receives Word About Lafayette’s Capture - Historians would never know the date when Olivia gets a letter that Lafayette fled from France and in prison because she only wrote the year and stopped writing in her diary for the rest of that year. They figured that she was extremely heartbroken to write.
1793-02-25: Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf -  Olivia was poisoned by a loyalist named Micheal Key. Thankfully the poison was expired and went on to sit in Mount Vernon for hours talking about the establishment of the first U.S. bank. But due to Olivia’s frail and weak body for not eating and sleeping at the correct times, she became gravely ill. She sent her four children to Setauket with Abraham Woodhull. the week before. The four mentioned people came to her room in Mount Vernon. minutes before Olivia died. She gave Washington the locket he gave her all those years ago, gave Benjamin her sun hair comb he gave her when the war was over and her golden spy ring, gave Eliza her and John’s wedding rings and gave Alexander the Hamilton family ring and her diary (she instructed him to only read the entry about their true heritage when he is on his deathbed). She then instructed Ben to give Lafayette, her one true love, to give the gift he gave her when they started their relationship, a sapphire bracelet when he visits America once more. Olivia told the three to forgive her for leaving too early, she remembered the time she gave Washington piano lessons (which failed), the time where she forced Alexander to eat and sleep more regularly, and the time where she helped Eliza with her pregnancy with Phillip and her other children. She sang, “Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf,” which she does when she tries to reassure those around her. Olivia’s last words were, “I’ll see all of you on the other side, John, my love, I’m coming.” She was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery with a large monument. When the States learned of her death, the nation stopped working for days. Everyone who knew her (which was a lot) attended the funeral ceremony. Washington placed a bronze statue of Olivia depicting her holding a gun in her right hand and her diary in her left hand with the four rings on her fingers to show that women too, can be powerful.
1793-02-26: Micheal Key Hanged - Because he assassinated the Vice President, Micheal John Key was hanged the next day at noon.
1867-01-11: Olivia On Currency - In memory of Olivia, they put her face on the $20 on her birthday. However, in 1928, she was briefly replaced by Andrew Jackson but quickly regained her place after much controversy.
1999-12-15: Olivia Becomes Lyria - Olivia Rachel Hamilton Laurens, rebirthed to Lyria Eclair Graham de Vanily, the most powerful demigoddess of her century.

Bulbbul Review
Tumblr media
June 27, 2020
by Inakshi Chandra-Mohanty
In the last few years, Indian filmmakers have reinvented the horror and supernatural genre for the Indian audiences. Taking inspiration from Indian mythology and literature, these new-age films have left behind the conventional use of jump scares and ghosts in havelis, that dominated the narrative of early Indian horror. Many of these tropes were directly lifted from Hollywood films and placed in an Indian setting leaving little room for innovation. But lately, filmmakers are exploring different territories in this genre. From Pari to Tumbbad, the conventional horror film has been transformed into a vivid display of mythology and fantasy, and now the latest edition to this list is Bulbbul. A supernatural period drama, the film traces the life of a child bride as she matures into young woman presiding over a fragmented household. In the midst of her reign, a series of murders take place and her London return brother-in-law decides to uncover the truth behind the rumors that this is the work of a chudail (witch).
The film is nowhere near perfect. The progression of the story is mundane and predictable. Yet, it is difficult not to marvel at the ambitious nature of the concept and the novelty with which it is executed. A lack of suspense and thrill don’t take away from magnificence of the tale being told. The slow, brooding nature of the story revels in the horrific themes explored in the film. Based in patriarchal sentiments, the film emerges as a feminist tale and twists the age-old terrorizing legend of the chudail into the story of an audacious young woman, plagued by a traumatic past. The roles are reversed as demon becomes human and human becomes demon. The film isn’t meant to be a horror film set in a fantasy world with unknown evils. Instead, it is reflective of the world that we live in, and the demons within us that bring out the demons within others.
Writer-director Anvita Dutt has built a fantasy aesthetic out of a real world in her debut film. The film is meticulously put together. As a director, she has excelled. However, as writer, she falters. Conceptually and structurally, the writing is strong, but some of the character are half-baked. The two characters, which are extremely well written and have the strongest arcs are Bulbbul and her sister-in-law, Binodini. This may be due to the unusual bond between them. They are the antithesis of one another. Bulbbul defies all odds to do what no other woman would dare, while Binodini is the one to conform, relishing in the luxury. Yet, they are not much different. They have both suffered. But, Bulbbul’s suffering becomes her strength as she refuses to become another Binodini. While she had many complaints with the latter, a victim turned victimizer, she also held a bit of sympathy for this woman who had suffered a similar plight to hers.
Compared to these strong female characters, the male characters are poorly written. They are all written in relation to Bulbbul, thus their own personality and motivations are clouded by Bulbbul’s character development. Satya and Dr. Sudip are the most disappointing. They are the characters that compose the conflict in the climax. Yet, that conflict is only believable when the characters’ arcs are clear. Satya’s anger towards the chudail and his behavior at the end isn’t justified, while Sudip’s mysteriousness remains a mystery. Maybe this can be attributed to the fact that the writer is a woman, making a film about women. Thus, the focus heavily shifted towards the female characters.
These characters would be just words written on paper if the actors hadn’t brought them to life. Tripti Dimri essays the titular role, Bulbbul, and masters the role with elegance. This is the most layered character in the film with the strongest shifts in personality. The same smile that propagated innocent charm as Laila in Laila Majnu displayed cunning boldness as Bulbbul. While in her former film, she fit the part and provided a great companion to Majnu, in this film, she owns every frame and displays consistency in complexity. It’s not just an improvement. She has truly reinvented herself for this role. Paoli Dam as Binodini is equally as admirable. She emotes so seamlessly, though her screen time is considerably less than the former. Avinash Tiwary, Rahul Bose, and Parambrata Chatterjee are apt in the roles written for them.
While Anvita Dutt is definitely the master of this project, due credit must also be given to Clean Slate Productions, helmed by Anushka Sharma. The company has been backing ambitious, content-driven projects with a focus on new talent. Even though Bulbbul and the company’s previous horror outing, Pari, are not perfect, both have had a large impact on the approach to horror in Indian cinema. Hopefully, as more and more artists begin to experiment with the genre, these great concepts will lead to great cinema.
Though with its flaws, Bulbbul scores on many points including story, acting, soundtrack, camerawork, editing, and direction. This is a film that I would have loved to watch on the big screen just for the visually stunning imagery, consisting contrasts of red and blue, and the haunting background music. It has a charm, an elegance, and a vision that is unmatched. This fairytale with a sinister twist is one to remember.

Star Wars: The High Republic #2 Review
Ultimately a 7.5 out of 10, this installment was slightly better because of how Cavan Scott decided to advance the plot. While there some are nice nuggets of good-story telling and character interactions, even worse than last time, it’s bogged down with cardinal errors that truly make me question Scott’s competency as a writer for this story.
Tumblr media
The issue comes right off the back end of Keeve being promoted to a Master Jedi and chronicles her first mission in the position. She is still dealing with the growing pains of what it means to be a Jedi which is depicted with her ongoing internalized self-doubt as well as her difficulty expressing certain Jedi mantras, such as “May the Force be with you.” Arguably exacerbating this bottled up uncertainty are the Keeve-proclaimed legends of Jedi Masters Sskeer, and identical Kobati twins Terec and Ceret. These twins are Bond-twins and as so are able to share the same mind and experiences of each other.
Tumblr media
As they exit “hyperspace” (more on that later), the four masters come across the leftover demise of a ship that has been attacked. The Jedi were tasked with responding to the scrambled distress call that the ship had sent out sometime ago but, it seems as if they arrived too late. Both Keeve and one of the twins, using the Force, are able to sense survivors within the ransacked ship. As so, they board and enter.  Almost as soon as they are inside, they are met with poisonous Nihilian ovax gas and utilize a device called “rebreathers” to mitigate the effects.  Fully aware that the Nihil have raided this ship, they continue their investigation and split up to cover more ground. Traversing in groups of two, Terec – who is accompanying Sskeer – can sense the Trandoshan experiencing extreme trauma which means that Ceret can feel it as well via their bond; specifically, Sskeer is having flashbacks to the exact moment he lost his arm in the Battle of Kur.
Tumblr media
On Keeve’s side of things, she and Ceret come across the corpses of a Hutt and Gamorrean guards. Upon further examination, it seems the Hutt was killed via an amalgam of stab wounds, blaster bolts, and nagnol poisoning – the latter being a toxic natural gas, capable of disrupting starship sensors, poisoning beings based on dosage, and a key element in the Nihil smokescreen.
Tumblr media
On Sskeer’s end, he comes across a barley crop and together the Jedi deduce that the Hutt was capitalizing on the grain shortage that has occurred thanks to the Great Disaster. As the twins work on trying to ascertain where exactly the crop came from, Ceret is attacked by a Nihil that has been left behind; this causes both twins to feel the pain but, the wounds are not fatal. Sskeer charges ahead and chases after the Nihil raider, who is already suffering from serious injuries previously sustained in the raid. While Sskeer is perturbed that he cannot sense the attacker he is able to fatally strike down the assailant; coming to gripes that he has just killed, Sskeer goes on a rampage and continually slashes the bifurcated carcass only be brought back to his senses when Keeve addresses him.
Tumblr media
Afterward, the Masters relay their findings to Marshall Avar Kriss and with the analysis from Master Maru, come to the conclusion that the barley – specifically Vratixia Renanicus – is a key ingredient in bacta; moreover, the shipment likely came from the Sedri System – principally, Sedri Minor. With this in mind, Kriss assigns Sskeer and Ceret to got to Sedri while she and Jedi Master Rwoh convene with Keeve and Terec to collect the Hutt ship that is breaking trading sanctions. Keeve moves to go with Sskeer but, Sskeer stonewalls her to stay with Terec.
Tumblr media
Arriving on the planet, Sskeer is met with unwecolmedness by a citizen, Kalo Sulman who makes it clear that the Jedi’s presence will interfere with the colony’s independence. As the two are discussing, Ceret sees a Rodian in the crops motioning him to come over – as Ceret goes deep into the brush he is attacked by Drengir.
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, Kriss and Keeve are discussing the remains of the corpse that Sskeer has left; Kriss reprimands Keeve for not telling her sooner but, also admonishes herself for not looking deeper into the signs the Force were giving her – such as not being able to hear Sskeer’s “song”.
Tumblr media
As this happens, Terec – who is being medically assessed by Rwoh – screams out in pain feeling his brother’s anguish and relays this to Kriss. Kriss immediately contacts Sskeer and asks if Ceret is with him; when Sskeer realizes that the twin is gone rushes into the fields only to find his lightsaber.
Tumblr media
What I liked:
A growing plot pivoting off of the bacta manufacturing that was touched on by Jedi Grandmaster Veter; this is much welcomed world building within the parameters that is the High Republic.
A very competent and aptly written investigation, analysis, and deductive reasoning done by the Jedi as a whole. The way the Jedi got on the ship, looked for clues, relayed their information to the data analyst/forensic expert, and hash out a plan to go to the planet where the clue originated from was great and definitely resonated with the idea that these Jedi are analogous to Texas Rangers. They certainly seemed like proto-Jedi investigators, not unlike future Jedi Master Tera Sinube.
The continued delving into Jedi Master Sskeer. I like the balancing act that is being conducted with his character. He’s a virtuous being that is dealing with trauma but, that doesn’t, ultimately, stop him from being a Jedi – it just tests it. He is still a “knight” and applies that chivalry when it needs to shine. Witnessing his accident and how it is affecting his psyche, ability to use the Force, and his morality is the highlight of this issue. This is what should be focused on to establish WHY Keeve looks up to him – give her these thoughts in accordance with herself doubt.
Tumblr media
The dynamics of Ceret and Terec as interconnected Force Twins (could be seen as “Dyad Force-bond” inspired). Their link is a double-edged sword that reminds me of the Tomax and Xamot Paoli from Cobra Command. The original Star Wars was centered around Force sensitive twins and it’s nice to see that element played with more here – haven’t really seen that since the Mikkian twin sisters – Tiplee and Tiplar – in Clone Wars.
The holster to the lightsabers – it’s a nice, subtle way to convey how the Jedi of this era are more in a time of peace and reservation. To have a weapon holstered means that they have to take the extra moment to consider brandishing it. This underlying detail syncs really well with the time period considering that most of their enemies would be lifeforms and could be reasoned with – “life is precious.”
This can be seen as succinct yet distinct dichotomy between this era Jedi and the Skywalker Saga Jedi, as their sabers were without a holster and normally fashioned around the hips allowing for both instant access and draw in an age encompassed by war with droids – “droids are replaceable.”
Tumblr media
What I disliked:
The application of Keeve’s personality traits continues to feel like a mismatch for the particular time period and volk she supposedly has been training and studying with; Ezra Bridger – who by the High Republic’s standards would not even be a Jedi – acts more like a Jedi than Keeve does. If anything, the uncertainty, quirks, and misapplication of Jedi traditions would have fit Ezra WAY more than it does (or really doesn’t) with Keeve. The concept itself is fine but, the iteration is what is flawed. Keeve is fast feeling more like a Jedi from post revenge Revenge of the Sith – like Kanan Jarrus – that a High Republic Jedi.
The sloppy fan service – there is a scene not only of a Hutt but, the Hutt is dead with its tongue out, surrounded by dead Gamorrean guards. It would be one thing if we just had a dead Hutt, I can even look past the Gamorrean guards (even though it would be nice if we saw this race in more roles than guards – there are some but, it does seem like guards is niche as far as the universe is concerned) but, to also have the Hutt dead with its tongue out to me just screams “DO YOU REMEMBER THAT ONE SCENE IN RETURN OF THE JEDI WITH JABBA?!!!” Just, how much are you going to dilute a reference? Make the fan service substantive and or just not in your face – the Rodian luring Ceret is a good version of fan service; present, notable, but not impeding in terms of the narrative.
Tumblr media
What I Marked Off:
The completely wrong depiction of hyperspace; Star Wars Hyperspace is blue and certainly not immersed in stars when one is traveling through it. This error is on the very first page of the issue. This shook me to my very core and yanked me out of the immersion. IT’S THE FIRST PAGE! HOW DOES ONE MESS UP ON THE FIRST PAGE?!!! To add grave insult to mortal injury, hyperspace is a FOCAL element of the High Republic Era – you CAN NOT mess this up. Ultimately, it’s a team mess up but, Scott gets the brunt of this reprimand because this is his story and arguably his script is the one that should be guiding the artist.
Tumblr media
The fact that Scott continues to fail to make the necessary references about crucial dynamics, events, and positions within this era. I had to learn from a YouTube video (link below) that Sskeer is actually the “Steward” to Kriss’ Marshall role. As of issue #3, this position is still not established to be held by Sskeer which is a real shame as it adds more substance and weight to his plight as a perturbed Jedi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPeRcyJE5dk&feature=emb_title
In summary, this issue was a 7.5 out of 10; slightly better than issue one because of how the writer decided to advance the plot and who he decided to advance the plot with. The genuinely good moments of story-telling are bogged down by ineptitude that can literally throw one out of the immersion. Nonetheless, if you can tolerate the faults there are elements to enjoy, especially when it comes to the characters. I hope those elements promptly become prominent.

Back from the void
Hello everyone! Me is back from the dead.
I kinda decided to come back to tumblr 15 minutes ago. But hey, I'm here! And I'm ready to stay - that's the plan at least.
What happened to me during this time off? Well, I don't exactly remember when I logged out, but I know a lot of stuff went down in my life so I'm here to sum everything up:
New pronouns! I'm she/they, and I would appreciate if you called me Paoli. I am in a journey of self-acceptance and self-discovery, so that might change, but for now I feel comfortable and me this way so yeah, that's it.
Art school is almost over! In October I'm starting my last year. I'm working on my essay thesis and my project thesis (the first one is about male gaze and the depiction of people in art/ videogames/ literature; the project one is a graphic novel about mental health issues and found family).
I just cut my hair! And I really like it this way.
What else... I'm 23 and still riding my rollercoaster of a life that hasn't won on me yet - this pal is a strong one - and I'm still in love with the colour yellow. I am currently working on a webcomic (still in the concept phase), reading a lot of comics and graphic novels, listening to the new Halsey album non-stop and idk, I'm back :D
How have you all been doing? Please tell me! I'd love to reconncet with you awesome people 💛💛💛

On October 29th 1740 James Boswell, the biographer, diarist and travel writer was born.
Born in Edinburgh, the son of Lord Auchinleck, Boswell matriculated in 1753 to study at the city's University. In 1759 his father sent him to Glasgow, where he attended the classes of Adam Smith and others, but he tired of student life and fled to London on 1 March 1760. He became a lawyer, a writer and, and most famously the biographer of the polymath Samuel Johnson.
Boswell met the famous Corsican nationalist Pasquali Paoli during his travels in Europe, and renewed his acquaintanceship when the latter was exiled in London. In 1771, Boswell brought Pasquali and the Polish ambassador Count Burzyuski to visit the University. They were greeted by several professors and a large crowd of spectators, and toured the printing works and the Academy of Art with the University printers Robert and Andrew Foulis.
In the autumn of 1773, Boswell and Johnson set off on their famous tour of the Western Isles, recorded in Boswell's famous The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides (1785). They stopped off in Glasgow on their return, and stayed at the Saracen's Head Inn near the University.
Dr Johnson was in “high glee” after arriving and particularly appreciated the coal fire. Boswell wrote of their night at the Saracen Head:
“On our arrival accounts from home, and Dr Johnson, who had not received a single letter since we left Aberdeen, found here a great many, the perusal of which entertained him much.
“He enjoyed in imagination the comforts which we could now command, and seemed to be in high glee. “I remember he put a leg up on each side of the grate, and said, which a mock solemnity, by way of soliloquy, but bud enough for one to hear it; there am I, an Englishman, sitting by a coal fire.”
Several figures from the university, then in the nearby High Street, joined them the following morning for breakfast before the pair departed for Ayrshire.
Please not this was the original Saracen Head that was demolished in 1905. The second pic shows Boswell in the middle in a depiction of their time in the Hotel.

Paoli Battlefield Site and Parade Grounds, Malvern (No. 3)
At 10 p.m. on September 20, British commander Major General Charles Grey marched from the British camp and launched a surprise attack on Wayne's camp, near the General Paoli Tavern, from which the battle takes its name, located near present-day Malvern. Grey's troops consisted of the 2nd Light Infantry, a composite battalion formed from the light companies of 13 regiments, plus the 42nd and 44th Foot. Altogether, his brigade comprised some 1,200 men.
To ensure that the Americans were not alerted, General Grey ordered that troops should advance with muskets unloaded and attack with the bayonet alone. In the case that loads could not be drawn from weapons, he ordered that flints should be removed instead, giving rise to the tradition this was a general order and earning the General the epithet "No Flints" Grey. In fact, Major Maitland, commanding officer 2nd Light Infantry battalion, was given permission to advance with muskets loaded, giving his personal assurance that his men could be relied on.
The British forces, led by a local blacksmith forced to act as guide, approached the camp from a wood and were able to achieve complete surprise. They stormed the camp in three waves—the 2nd Light Infantry in the lead followed by the 44th and the 42nd. Completely unprepared, Wayne's troops fled from the camp and were pursued. Near the White Horse Tavern the British encountered Smallwood's force and routed it as well.
With casualties of only 4 killed and 7 wounded, the British had routed an entire American division. Historian Thomas J. McGuire says that 53 Americans were buried on the battlefield but "whether these were all of the American dead or only those found on the campsite-battlefield is uncertain". Local tradition says that 8 more Americans killed in the battle were buried at the nearby Anglican church of St. Peter-in-the-Great Valley. 71 prisoners were taken by the British, 40 of whom were so badly wounded that they had to be left behind in nearby houses. A total of 272 men were killed, wounded or missing from Wayne's division after the battle. McGuire reports that the day after the battle, 52 dead Americans were buried (and another who was found later), 39 of the buried are un-named. The highest ranking American officer killed was Major Mareen Lamar (sometimes misspelled Marien).
