Day 27 of Inktober, a Drawing based on one of the Tales of the Stories from Le Roman De Renart.

Ysengrin asks his Nephew (Renart) if he could find some delicious food for his Family for Christmas. Renart knew a way to trick his Uncle, so he manipulates him into having his own tail be used as a Fishing Rod for Fish to come out and even grab his tail through the Frozen water. However, when Fish to not come out of the Water, what he doesn't realize was that Ysengrin had been tricked by his own Nephew as his own tail gets frozen solid through the frozen water. In which, Renart laughs about it (and in some versions, he does steal his Uncle's food) and leaves Ysengrin rot to death in the Cold Winter.

I will eventually post pics of my Reynard fursuit when I have made some adjustments to the outfit that goes with it and gotten some decent, well-lit outdoor photos.

In the meantime, have some concept art by Toastermutt (who made the suit) and Fortunata Fox (are either of them on Tumblr?) as well as a coat of arms I designed for him.

I had originally planned for this to be a big performance art project with the suiter's identity not widely known but a number of things took the momentum out of that. But it's a cool suit and I want to wear it more!

Peut-on apprivoiser un renard ?

Imaginons que j’en ai envie. Juste pour l’idée. Mettons que, par exemple, j’ai rencontré ce renard, et que j’ai envie de l’apprivoiser. Comment est-ce que je devrais m’y prendre ?

Non, non, ce n’est pas un renard à quatre pattes qui vient creuser sous les poulaillers pour se faire un banquet de volaille. Je ne vous parle pas de ce genre de renard. Non, la question était plutôt à propos des renards à deux pattes. Vous savez. Ceux qui ont l’air humain, très aimables, rusés mais sympathiques, ceux qui ont toujours un petit mot amusant à vous murmurer à l’oreille pour médire discrètement du reste de la société… Ceux qui connaissent très bien les conventions et s’en amusent, ceux qui savent faire danser les autres à leur rythme, pas après pas, jusqu’à ce qu’ils les aient amené exactement là où ils le souhaitaient. Et ensuite les dévorent, j’imagine. Après tout, un renard est un renard.

Ils portent tous des masques, ces renards-là, de beaux masques dont on ne voit pas les ficelles – la seule chose qui les trahit, au final, est de voir leur queue touffue cachée sous leurs vêtements d’humain. Vous savez de quoi je veux parler. Vous connaissez les signes, vous aussi. Comment je le sais ? Oh, disons que ça se sait. J’ai demandé à gauche, à droite, et me voilà. De toutes manières, quelle importance ? Je n’ai pas l’intention de vous faire du tort.

Non, c’est d’un tout autre renard que je viens vous parler – je ne suppose absolument pas que vous êtes un renard vous-même, bien entendu, jamais je n’oserais dire une chose pareille, vous pensez bien. Non, je vous parle d’un autre renard. Un très, très beau renard. Séduisant, amusant, captivant. Je sais très bien comment attirer son attention, il suffirait d’être une jolie proie. Mais je veux plus. Je veux l’apprivoiser. Je veux qu’il devienne mien. Comment pourrais-je m’y prendre ?

Allons. Vous pouvez me le dire. Nous sommes entre nous. Quel risque y a-t-il ?

De la nourriture, peut-être ? De la viande crue, ou au contraire des plats délicats ? De l’extraordinaire ou du réconfortant ? Qu’est-ce qui pourrait détendre mon renard toujours sur ses gardes ?

Du charme, alors ? C’est lui le maitre charmeur, mais peut-être a-t-il envie d’être courtisé à son tour. Tenue experte ou naturel désarmant, qu’est-ce qui peut faire mouche et faire tomber le masque ?

Et si je me contentais d’être honnête, après tout ? J’ai deviné ce qui se cache derrière son masque, mais peut-être sera-t-il touché que j’enlève le mien. J’hésite. J’ai peur de lui faire peur. Vous, depuis que je suis là, je vois bien que vous n’êtes pas du tout à l’aise. Je le sens, même. Alors que tout de même, nous ne sommes plus au moyen-age. Soyez moderne et cessez de trembler, que diable.

Le Roman de Renart (2005)

That movie forged my childhood and changed me forever. I was fascinated by the animation (that looked great for how little budget it has by trying to mix CGI and 2D before it was cool, even if funky sometimes and with lots of errors), found all the characters endearing, it made me discover and be obsessed with the original tales for years after I was gifted a beautiful edition on the next Christmas, which by butterfly effect made me fall for medieval tales and legends in general which opened the way to being one of he best kids in French class knowing lots of general facts about French literature without having necessarily read it to the point nowadays I may not love to read at all, I love the world of literature in general and it is all thanks to that movie I watched at age 7 in theaters with my mom and we were only a few people in there and only I laughed with nobody not even the kids giggling even once. And I didn't know why because it was one of my favorite as a kid. Then when I watched it again as a teen it... of course lost a lot of its charms, I saw it as a bad movie I still had nostalgia for. As an adult I still love it, for nostalgia, everything it did for me in the long run, for openly loving my guilty pleasures as well since now I am too old to feel shame for what I like, and also because I got one of my biggest OTPs from there lmao
