from the tags of my previous post: seriously, thank you! no one seems to acknowledge it, but there are a few "stores" (literally just drop shippers that buy low quality stuff for cheap from aliexpress and sell it to you on a different website as a "brand" for a marked up price) that advertise here on tumblr under the lolita tags with super retouched pictures to make the items look decent that i hope no new lolitas fall for. "sugarplumstore" and "kawaiibabe" are ones i see the most often.

#and that's not to say all resellers are bad. there are decent resellers of taobao stuff like 42lolita that are trustworthy and honest #but acting like this is a “small business” of any sort marking up prices and editing pictures this much is simply disingenuous #they also lump in random maid cosplays and stuff that isn't egl and advertise it as lolita that probably confuses a lot of people

I hate how so many shops now on Etsy just take general product images from other stores and use them in their store front so you have to scour the reviews hoping someone’s posted pictures so you can see images of the ACTUAL product.

And you never really know who the original producer/maker of the item is when there’s 5 other products with the SAME EXACT IMAGE all from FIVE DIFFERENT SELLERS

I hope that some of you remember yesterday's teaser post, hinting that the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation had discussed and voted on a very important issue. That issue? The COOL Online Act, a bill that:

... requires products posted online from sellers in the US to display which country they were made in, much like products in US stores display the same 'made in' labeling. In other words, a legal requirement for resellers to admit that their products are mass-produced overseas!

Though it passed yesterday (details linked above), it still has to go through a few more legal steps before becoming law. The ISG and the preliminary results from our Marketplace Research Survey have made a tangible impact on the results of yesterday's decision, and we intend to keep our foot on the pedal:
