Not me visiting Fagradalsfjall volcano only days before it erupted. 🌋 I didn’t get any photos too close to the edge but all that black stuff is lava from last year’s eruption. & you can’t tell, because it kind of just looks like Austin is sitting right next to a small stream of lava, BUT it’s like hundreds of feet down and he’s just sitting on the very edge and that’s a very large stream of lava.

did a lot of things, but I just wanted to share some of my photography i loved the most. This was the best experience if my life, and I dreamed about it last night so I thought I’d share my photos. I miss Iceland🇮🇸
A bucket list. From my understanding, a list of things we humans want to do before we co the aforementioned bucket. These lists feel a lot like aspirations, like something just out of reach. Things we want to do but rarely do I ever hear of people completing them, the list itself putting an expiration date on adventure. But at the ripe old age of 19 (soon to be 20, please don’t hold my youth against me) It was time for me to venture off and complete one of my “bucket list” items. Iceland.
After a very hot and sweaty summer spending stinky hours in kitchens and cafes. On off days Swimming in the sea and biking the hills of Block Island it was time for my trip to Iceland. What has felt like an eternity was now at an end. I didn’t know eternity could end, but when it did I was ready for what this trip held. I was at the threshold ready to be pushed through to the land of fire and ice.
After a red eye to Keflavik and an hour bus-ride which was accompanied by the most beautiful sunrise we arrived in Reykjavik. Because we were not allowed into our hotel room we only had one option explore. What started with a walk by the fjord in some brisk 40 degree weather (mind you I’m wearing SHORTS) lead to a tour of some of Reykjavik’s downtown attractions which included Hallgrimskirkja and Iceland’s very own punk museum. All this walking and we had finally made it back to our hotel room where we proceeded to crash for the next 14 hours in a deep sleep that would rival Snow White and sleeping beauty’s.
The next day brought tours of sculpture gardens and SHOPLIFTER’s chromo sapiens, an art installation made of thousand and thousands of tracks of synthetic hair that made you feel like you were in the inside of a muppet (I am not complaining about this). But the main event occurred on our last day when we spontaneously decided to book a tour of the golden circle and the blue lagoon, which was extremely worth it.
And that’s when it clicked. We stepped into the blue lagoon and that moment I understood the methodology of bucket list. Simply speaking for myself, I have an innate appreciation for beauty of both the natural and unnatural world and while a bucket list can sometimes be unachievable, it can also be inspiring. So with one adventure ending and new one on its way one can only hope the future holds more beauty for me.
The strangest museum I have ever been in, bar none. The Icelandic Penis Museum is a fascinating place created by a man who likely didn't exist on the same plane of consciousness as the rest of us. Gifted a penis cane at a young age, he embarked on an epic journey to collect penii (penises?) from every mammal in Iceland. In the end, he got much more than that, very much including human specimens. Some of the most entertainingly kitchy souvenirs I've ever seen (the 'I'm not a donor' shirts stood out) and a collection of employees who seem exactly like they belong in a penis museum. Also, dick-waffles, as dessert.
Rob and I split up in the morning where he went to work out at Thor's Power Gym and I went to walk around the city. More about Rob's gym experience later, but let's just say his entire Iceland experience has been made 😂.
Lots of sightseeing in a day, from Harpa Concert Hall, the nearby lighthouse, Hallgrímskirkja (the most famous church in Iceland), city hall, Perlan museum (with an ice cave!), and the Sun Voyager both in the morning and at sunset. I liked seeing the abundance of street art in various parts of the city, the mix of plain houses and colourful buildings, and just walking around to take in the atmosphere. The weather has been amazing - mid teens and sunny in the afternoon, mid/high single digits in the morning and evenings. The locals said this is basically their summer because 'real summer' was awful this year.
Overall though, glad we only budgeted a full day in Reykjavik because while it was nice to see, I have a feeling the following days out of the city are going to be really special 😁.
