Akio trying to convince Utena in the last episode that Anthy's suffering is a tragic but inevitable facet of reality and nothing can be done about it despite him being the primary one responsible for her suffering, and this being part of his smoke and mirrors illusion through which he maintains control, acting like his tower is the highest place in the world and he is the end of the world and there's nothing beyond the limits of his power and it's naive and delusional to think otherwise...and Anthy having internalized this idea that there's no hope for her and there's no possible future for her beyond Akio's abuse...and Utena rejecting this ultimately not out of some abstract idea of heroism or nobility or some clear idea of how to fix things but simply because she cannot accept it and she loves Anthy too much to not try to do something...and that giving Anthy the hope and courage to believe in a future where she can be loved and be happy and the strength to choose to leave herself and even subtly mock Akio's own immaturity and self-delusion on her way out the door as she goes to step over the line to the outside world while Akio is shocked because he never considered that his power over her was not absolute and he too believed in the indestructibility of the system he created...the revolution was the power to imagine the future!! the world (the stage) is free and wide!!

If Anthy ever did successfully grow weed as in the one jokepost whats the overunder on "time until a scaredweed brownie is in Nanami's hand". Whats the TTK.

negative 5 minutes, she would find the brownie before anthy ever even started growing it

the episode would open up on nanami finding a brownie left on her bedside table. she would go "oh that's so thoughtful of my brother!" and eat it and would immediately start getting scared. she'd go out and ask touga what was up and he'd say "that's normal womanly emotions, stop being such a woman" so she'd assume she was weird for not having been constantly scary high her entire life. she would chat with miki and juri at different points. juri would recognize she was high and give some recommendations nanami would completely misunderstand, miki would just think she had a cold and would freak her out even more. around the halfway mark utena would ask anthy what the new plant she was growing was and anthy would say "grass" as she watered the lawn and utena would go "no i meant... never mind" as nanami walked up to them. anthy would start winding nanami up even more than usual and utena would assume she was planning something. by the end she would have started to blame the brownie but for some completely erroneous reason and would say utena definitely planted the brownie before saionji said something that made her think he was responsible. the episode would end with anthy offering freshly baked brownies to the whole student council and smiling, saionji would be the first to bite and would immediately go fucking nuts

is this pretty much just "nanamis egg but with her getting high"? yeah, but i stand by it

It's interesting to me that Akio/Dios are portrayed so differently in the movie vs the anime. Broadly speaking, in the anime Akio is a menacing figure (albeit charming at times) and Dios seems more benevolent.

Whereas in the movie Akio is kind of a joke?? His flipping over the car hood is silly and dainty and frilly instead of this display of sexual power, he's full on panicking because he doesn't have as much control over Anthy as he thought, he's lost his keys, he falls out of his own window.

And in the movie, it's Dios who is scary, and appears at the end of the car chase to intimidate Anthy into going back. Dios is the final boss.

And since I interpret the movie as from Anthy's POV/in her headspace, I see that as a reflection of how she views Akio in the present vs Dios in the past.

Akio, as of the end of the anime, is not someone who Anthy respects anymore. He's foolish, because he didn't see the meaning in Utena's actions, and she sees that all his posturing is just that: posturing.

Dios, though? Dios is the one she loved, and cared about, and did everything she ever did for. Dios was Anthy's prince, and to leave the school isn't just to leave Akio, it's also to leave behind this idealized memory of what he was-- and, by extension, what Anthy was with him.

It's important to note that Anthy never really wanted to be saved from Akio. She wanted "a prince she could believe in," and that was Dios until he "became" Akio (however you choose to interpret that). Later, she saw Dios in Utena-- a new prince she could believe in, even if she couldn't bring herself to do so until the last moment.

But I think the point which the anime alludes to and which the movie hammers home is that Dios is NOT Anthy's savior, he's a piece of her prison. She needs to overcome and outgrow him as much as she needed to overcome Akio.
