OK so I agree completely with what Rheall said in that post that no one is above anyone in this community and I get the clique is an illusion sentiment. But you have to admit that when the smaller simblrs watch “Bruce the Dolphin” go round and round the same 30 people what are they supposed to think? Or when they watch simblrs with higher notes re-blog only from other simblrs with the same amount of notes.

We tell them to reblog and interact because you know the more popular simblrs are the same as us but I just think maybe sometimes all of us can do better at cultivating this community. It is nice to reblog posts saying everyone here is valid but how many put that sentiment really into practice?

Well except for the black simblr community. Y’all already do this. Whether someone in large or small, young or old, vanilla or alpha (and everything in between) they are welcomed. Replies and asks are answered and smaller simblrs are reblogged and shouted out. The rest of the community could really take some notes.

Yeah, I do agree with this too nonny (which is why I added some additional tags on that post).

I'm not gonna put words in her mouth or anything cos I can't say, but it felt like maybe she was describing some of the better parts of this community? When you don't interact with or just block certain blogs, your time here gets exponentially better in my experience, it becomes a lot closer to the ideal. But that also goes along with what she said about trying your best not to focus on the notes. Because the fact of the matter is, a lot of the really bigger blogs are kind of assholish, and if you really want a lot of notes regularly you gotta kiss tip to stay in their circle (or somewhat adjacent) and not ostracized/hit with the chain block. And the people that really care about notes will stay walking on eggshells to stay there no matter what happens which creates that toxic, clique-like environment imo. This goes for both of the bigger chunks of the community which I tend to separate between cc makers and non-cc makers in my head. That's just how it is and I don't think that's going to change.

In reality, I think making your experience here better is a mix of the two ideas. Following Rheall's advice is a really good idea and I highly encourage it. But also, you do have to be a little picky about who you interact with in the first place. This is why I'd actually encourage talking a lot to people that are smaller rather than trying to aim for people with huge followings. They're more likely to be friendly and willing to encourage you and spread your posts, and you can gain awesome friends that way. They're less likely to be focused on popularity and more likely to say what they really think. Yes, no one here on simblr is better than anyone else, we're all the same- but some people do think they are better than everyone else, sadly. There's some big egos and nasty souls in this community that simply aren't worth getting wrapped up in, even if they treat you nice for a minute or get you some extra notes. I'm not going to say notes don't matter, we all know they do; but what I'm saying is, I'd rather some real genuine comments from my mutuals than a thousand silent reblogs from people that don't give 1 shit about me, you know? Or a reblog from someone that would turn around and blast me with waves of anon hate cos I disagreed with them. It's not worth it.

Instead, you have no choice but to work hard to cultivate your community for yourself. That includes a) what Rheall mentioned, reaching out to others and being kind, and b) blocking those that display the behaviors you mentioned above. Because you can't make the mistake of expecting them to change- they won't. If I see someone only reblogging from the same people & the same 500+ note posts over and over again, ignoring people in the comments and only speaking to the same people, and constantly circlejerking to nauseating amounts, I just block them. If I see a huge creator that only posts their paywalled cc, never interacts, and ignores the people using & gushing over their content, I block them. And what seems like closing a door is actually opening another. Even now, simblr is a big place, and blocking those blogs won't shut you off from the best part of it. It just blocks that behavior from your view and allows other simblrs and subsets of our community to shine.

I think why black simblr is so good at this is the fact that we are a smaller section of the community, relatively. It's more niche and tight-knit, and there's also a variety of tags you can use to find more. And while some of this section is fairly large (I would say more medium size follower wise), you will notice that most of the super big simblrs are not black simblrs. Or at least, don't interact as much with that subset of the community. You also notice this with most of the big cc creators being non-black as well. (I actually think black simblr is often used as a talking point for more notes at best or punching bag at worst for a lot of big simblr, but that's another discussion entirely.) Common niches will always stick together and promote better in simblr, whether that's based on race or by common interests, such as royal simblrs, simblrs that like kpop, etc. Find simblrs that are similar to you, and that can very well be a launching point to being part of a community you didn't even know was there.

I feel like I'm repeating myself a bit, but what I take away from the discussion as a whole, is not that notes don't matter. Not caring about them can be really hard, that's valid and makes perfect sense for all of us. But more that, what you have to do to get them quickly and consistently, what you have to do to stay there, and the toll on your mental health because of it is not worth it. I have interacted with all kinds of simblrs here in my time, big and small, and a lot of what you see at the perceived "top of the top" is just ugly. There's a lot of jealously, resentment, contempt, and burn-out brewing up there, usually built up from sitting in that same place for years. There's a sense of bitter cynicism that leaves a bad taste in your mouth just from being around it. And it's very easy to get sucked into that and the negativity too, I know that myself. Even though some may joke or mock anyone for talking about it and brush it off as being not that deep or whatever, it's true. It's really not a place or mindset you want to be in.

Apologies for word vomiting back at you so badly lol, but I'll try to wrap it up now. I just really think that, while I wish the dynamics of simblr would change as a whole, that just isn't going to happen. The Reblog Debate comes up every half a year and every time everyone says the same thing and the bigger simblrs cat fight with the smaller simblrs and the vague posts fly out by the thousands and nothing changes either way. The only solution is, honestly, to just aim low and find a few good mutuals here and that's it. Anything more, well, that's a pleasant surprise- right?

Hi! I was wondering if you have plans to update your Petrichor eye defaults to work with the new Infants update? I love these eyes so much; but due to the recent update they break the toddler eyes :(

Hello!! Long time no see, everyone. ^^;

First of all, I'm so sorry I disappeared there! Real life and my worsening chronic fatigue symptoms have made it too difficult to keep on top of the Sims community. I'm excited about this recent expansion/update, though, so yes! I will be updating my mods!

I've been out of the game for a few months though, so it might take me a while to figure it all out, but once I do I'll DEFINITELY share updates for my default eyes, my default skinblend, and my CC Wrench replacer.

I'm on the case! 💪 Just please be patient with me. I'm looking forward to getting these updates to you all! <3

I absolutely love your Petrichor eyes, but I've been having some trouble with the heterochromia unfortunately- it shows up fine for the infants, but from toddlers onwards, I can't find them anywhere under skin details. I've switched my toddler's eyes to the aveira felicity eyes since cuz the heterochromia on those works for them, but I figured you ought to know.

Hmm, this is a weird bug! I've tried replicating it myself, but I'm having no luck; the heterochromia file works just fine for me in all ages. :\

It's listed under "Dimple - Right" in the Skin Details section; here it is in my own game (thumbnail near the bottom right of the image).

Could you try re-downloading the heterochromia file from SimFileShare and see if replacing it helps? Sometimes files get corrupted or messed up a little when downloading or updating your game.

Anyone else having this problem? Worst comes to worst I could try re-creating the file from scratch.

Hmmm… actually, you know what could be the problem?

Try removing the Aveira Heterochromia eye file from your mods folders and see if it shows up then.

It could be because I copied the Aveira heterochromia package file to use for Petrichor, and they might be interfering with each other in the game.

If that's the case, I'll do my best to fix it. Let me know how it turns out! <3 (Sorry I can't do too much investigating right now, I have some IRL stuff to take care of!)

Hi @sanmyshunosunset!

I have an automated Photoshop action that does it, but it's really easy to do. Click through the cut to see the steps!

First I take a screenshot of the text box/notif I want to use. I open it in Photoshop and select the relevant part using the selection tool, then copy and paste it on top of my edited screenshot.

Then I apply a layer style to the notif. You can reach the Layer Style options by right clicking on the layer and selecting "Blending Options", or double clicking on the layer thumbnail. Here're the relevant settings:

The Outer Glow adds a very fuzzy dark shadow the notif, to help set it apart a bit more from the background. You can also use Drop Shadow for this, but I use Outer Glow because I don't want it to be offset. :)

The Inner Glow just softens the inner edges of the notif a teensy bit, blending it with the border a bit better.

The main part is the Stroke, which is set to 41% opacity so it's not so stark.

The result:

I made adding this layer style into an automated action so I don't have to redo the layer style settings every single time I edit a notif.

Hello♡ I love your eyes & all the colours you make with them! I like that they match each other & Aveira's so well since it was my go to eyes before it stopped updating.

Idk if it's ok to ask, if it's not, you can ignore this! But I'm wondering if you can also do the same with Aveira's other eyes, the "EYES #11 remake"?

It's absolutely ok to ask! No worries at all. ^^

The main reason I made the Maxis Match versions of Aveira's Felicity (N15) eyes was so I could use them myself; I preferred MM sclera options for default eyes, and I just loved the Felicity eyes so much!

When I made my own Petrichor Default Eyes, though, I no longer needed the MM versions of Aveira's eyes, though I still try to keep them updated because I still think they're gorgeous and I know a lot of people get use out of them. ^^

Unfortunately, I don't have plans to do the same with any of Aveira's other eyes. I don't have a lot of energy for CC projects nowadays, so I tend to stick to things I would make use of myself.

It's a great idea, though, so I encourage anyone else to give it a go! If you're fine with the sclera design and you just want the N11 Eyes updated for the infant patch, there's a batch fix in S4S that will do it for you. ^^

Oh goodness, you're so kind!! I'm so glad you like them, and yeah, I'd love to make some new ones some day! Just need some inspiration…

I actually have a few WIP hairlines that I drew but didn't like the look of in-game. One of those was a middle-parted hair, and even though I really liked my drawing for it it didn't work out with almost all of the EA hairs I tried it with, so I put it aside. Here's a preview of what it looked like:

The middle-part just didn't work. Most EA hairs had hard edges to them that made the middle part look bad, or the middle parts just didn't line up properly with each other; they were crooked or slightly off-centre. I tried hard, but just couldn't make it work.

Then my cloud-saving messed up and saved over this file with an older version and I lost the progress on this hairline. :\ Grr. But that's how it goes! I might have a .png of it that I used to test with lying around, but my file system is a rats nest and I haven't had a good look.

To answer your other suggestions, first about more masculine hairlines: I'd love to make more! I do consider my hairlines to be pretty androgynous, my masculine sims often use all of the ones I've made, but Stoic is pretty firmly in the "masculine" camp, for sure. Making more pose a couple difficulties:

Masculine EA hairs (as well as CC masc hairs) have hair lines that are all over the dang place. Making them line up properly to even a few is a huge headache, at least without making a million bazillion swatches. It's a lot of work!

Also: I'm a bit out of ideas! That being said, if you have any reference images and examples you'd like to see me make for your sims, please don't hesitate to send them to me! I'm always looking for more ideas, since my energy is pretty low these days and it's hard to come up with them by myself. ^^

Afro hairlines: I addressed this elsewhere, but I'm hesitant to try because I have zero experience with afro-textured hair, how it works beyond what I can find with an image search, or what's fashionable. I'd rather that folks who do have experience with that hair-type make them, and many have! Setsuki's come to mind, as do all the snatched edges and baby hairs out there which are so gorgeous. :D As for me, though, I don't have the ideas or the experience, so I don't feel qualified to make them.

I'm also really picky with what hairlines I release. I've made a few WIPs that I never shared because I'll only share the ones that actually look good in-game! It's tricky for me to make something that passes my internal quality control. X) But if I do have an idea and can make something I like in the future, you bet that I'll share it with you all. 👍

About Nude Buff Hello rheallsim! Thank you so much for letting us know how to tune the nude buff! I too have been thinking about how to fix this buff. If you don't mind, there is something I would like to know. With this tuning method, the "Insyance" value becomes 0, but "Type" does not seem to become 0. Is there a problem if I leave it as it is? The Sims41ife tutorial says to also set "Type" to 0. I couldn't figure it out, so I asked you. I'm sorry if my questions are bothering you!

Hmm, this is a good question!

I'm not an expert, I don't make CC clothes, so I may be wrong… but the original tutorial says to turn the characters in the "Type" field to 0's too, so I'd assume you do both!

Anyone else with more experience know what that right thing is to do here?

Hi!! I'm having the same issue as the last user who messaged about the wrench icons and said other icons were glitching out, and I have the most recent version of the mod. I just wanted to let you know, thanks!!

Oof, I'm sorry to hear you're having problems now! :( The other asker found that an out-dated file was the problem; I know you said you're using the most recent version, but if you could try re-downloading the newest package and replacing your old file and letting me know if that fixes it, I'd appreciate it! It's possible your file got corrupted at some point.

I'm not having any issues with it, nor is anyone else to my knowledge, so if it is broken for you specifically for some reason I don't know how I'd try to fix it. :( Maybe try someone else's CC Wrench mod, like @claudiasharon's? It's this one, here. Theirs has been confirmed working with the newest patch too, so it's worth a shot!

Hope you can work out what the problem is! 💗

EDIT: Oh, I should add, if you have a mod like TwistedMexi's Better BuildBuy or Weerbesu's More Columns in CAS, any mod that alters the UI, be sure to take out the old versions and make sure they're updated and cleared for the new patch before putting them back in. Those also regularly break the UI with new patches. <3

If you're still accepting ideas for alien eyes, back in the day before they were taken down Noodle's Glossy alien eyes had little stars in them and I thought that was super cool. When they made their Clarity eyes for aliens they made them more similar to the regular alien eyes, and I've never been able to find others with stars. I just think it's a really neat idea for aliens that I'm surprised no one else has done, and would love a set with that idea in mind.

Just did a quick image search, and you're right! They're super cute! :D
