“Three 16-Year-Old Thieves Must Go To Work on Farm,” Toronto Star. July 24, 1942. Page 30. --- Wrong to Think They Can Live by Stealing, Magistrate Tells Them ---- PUT ON PROBATION --- A Police Court, City Hall - Magistrate McNish ‘If you have the idea that you can live by stealing and not work, you are wrong,’ said Magistrate McNish in ‘A’ court to Reginald Irwin, 16; Roy Cook, 16, and William Powell, 16, up for sentence on charges of theft. ‘There is a crying need for farm work, and instead of staying around the city stealing, I am going to se that you three go to work on a farm. If you do not stay on the farm you will be brought back here and sentenced on these charges,’ concluded his worship, placing the three on suspended sentence and probation for two years.
Irwin was convicted a week ago on six charges of theft, which included a microphone, spray gun, a watch, gasoline rationing book and war savings certificates. Detective James Ledic stated Irwin visited various offices looking for work and stole the articles.
Cook was convicted on two charges of stealing tricycles and Powell on one charge of stealing a bicycle.
Abraham Gold, alias John John Krichakovski, charged with robbing Louis Carman of $205 with violence, was remanded to July 27.
In sentencing Melville Cherpeau [TOP image] to two years in Kingston penitentiary on a charge of robbing William Cole of $35 with violence, Magistrate McNish said: ‘I hope that others in the Jarvis and Dundas St. districts will note that persons convicted of rimes like this will go to the penitentiary.’
At a previous hearing Cole said he was in a hotel at Jarvis St and Dundas St. and saw the accused. ‘We left and went to a house with another man and woman. Later going home through a lane near Sherbourne, I was hit, kicked and robbed of $35,’ he testified.
‘I have no hesitation in registering a conviction,’ said the magistrate. ‘We continually have men before the courts for various crimes from that district, some of a similar nature. I don’t hold you responsible for all of them. At the same time you must pay for the crime you committed. It was a brutal thing to do and the complainant’s hard-earned money was taken.’
Convicted of attempting to break into an apartment on Harvis St., Edward J. Quigley, 19, was sentenced to three months.
J. S. Mines, caretaker, stated that he saw the youth with a knife tampering with the lock of an apartment door. ‘I grabbed him and called the police,’ he said.
‘I went there to see a fellow who owed me 25 cents,’ declared accused.
Whitney Stewart, Gravenhurst, admitted driving carelessly on Yonge St. and was fined the maximum penalty of $50 and costs or 15 days.
Seven days, his car impounded for three months and his license suspended for six months was the penalty given Joseph Raets, who pleaded guilty of drunken driving.
‘The accused came south on Ossington Ave., and drove east on Bloor St.,’ related P.S. Watson. ‘He was drunk. It was a very warm day. All the windows in the car were up and the sweat was just pouring out of him.’
“Gets 2 Years in ‘Pen’,” Toronto Star. July 24, 1942. Page 30. ---- County Police Court, County Buildings Magistrate McIlveen Stanley Moore [BOTTOM picture[ was sent to Kingston penitentiary for two years on each of nine charges of defrauding Bertha L. Rae of $826.60, when he appeared before Magistrate McIlveen today. He had previously pleaded guilty. The sentences will run concurrently.
Accused admitted he had spent 15 months in jail before on similar charges. According to the crown, he had told the police he intended to give the money back.
‘That is the least you can do,’ commented his worship.
According to evidence presented at a previous hearing, Moore led Miss Rae to believe he was renting a farm at Smithville and agreed to engage her as a housekeeper. On several occasions, it was stated in evidence he had borrowed money from her with which to purchase livestock and pay general farm expenses and rent. Later it was found, evidence disclosed, that no such farm existed.
“Had Cheap Jewelry” Toronto Star. July 24, 1942. Page 30. ---- B Police Court, at the City Hall - Magistrate Gullen After being held for some days in custody, Michael Pohulk was this morning charged with vagrancy. He appeared before Magistrate Gullen in ‘B’ police court.
The only evidence against the 19-year-old youth given by Constable Wheeldon, who arrested him at 3.30 a.m. on July 18, was that he fund him sitting in a Queen St. restaurant with a cheap piece of costume jewelry in his hand. The lad, on holiday from his mother’s farm, had a meal ticket and a room in a Richmond St. house, also owned by his mother.
‘Dismissed,’ said the court, ‘the evidence does not support the charge.’
The same officer charged Kosty Karrandzos, 17, with vagrancy. He followed accused along the street and into the same restaurant where he had some of the same costume jewelry. More was found shoved down behind the rear seat of the police car at arrival at the station. Accused had no money, the officer said. He lived wit his parents. ‘I had 50 cents,’ said the youth.
‘Do you want to give evidence or call witnesses?’ asked the court. ‘No,’ replied accused.
‘Then there will be a conviction.’
‘I did tell the officer where I got the jewelry and answered what I was asked,’ said the accused.
‘He has been in trouble before,’ said the crown.
‘You will be fined $25 and costs or 30 days,’ said his worship.
James Herbert, 19, also charged by P.C. Wheeldon with vagrancy, had some cheap jewelry on him and wasn’t eating. He had been with Karrandzos prior to entering the restaurant. He had 50 cents, the officer stated.
‘I had $2,’ said accused, ‘and had been eating. I have a home and was working for four months up to two weeks ago.’
‘You had means of support, but were found wandering abroad and did not give a satisfactory account of yourself. There will be a conviction and you will be fined $10 or 10 days,’ said the court.
Peter Senuch, also charged with vagrancy by P.C. Wheeldon, had been followed into the restaurant. He had a registration card which the officer said was not his own.
‘I just finished work at the General Electric Co. at 1 a.m., and walked up to the restaurant with these other boys whom I had known for a short time. I had something to eat, bought cigarettes and had five cents left.’
‘That charge will be dismissed,’ said the court.
Rog Notman, remanded until today in the care of the Salvation Army on a charge of vagrancy, failed to appear when called. ‘He disappeared last night,’ said the crown. A bench warrant was ordered to issue.
Kenneth Green and Sidney Bert faced charges of theft of auto markers, auto theft having burglars’ tools and unlawful possession of offensive weapon. Green also faced a charge of careless driving.
Harold Chaplin, defence counsel, pleaded not guilty to all charges and elected trial by jury. Counsel asked for an adjournment on the careless driving charge to July 29 at 2 p.m.
‘We will proceed with the auto theft charge first,’ said Crown Counsel Charles Hamm, whereupon defence counsel asked for exclusion of all witnesses.
The crown called B. A. Pennock, Dovercourt Rd. On July 11, witness testified, he left his car in his car in his side drive at midnight. It was completely locked up, he stated. A fifth tire was in the trunk, also locked. At 9 a.m., the car was gone.
Detective Harold Hodgson of the auto theft squad stated that on July 17 at 11.40 p.m. in company with Det.-Sergt. Max Richardson, he saw a maroon parked on a lot bearing license 66L79, which plates had not yet been reported as stolen from Inglewood, Ont. Investigation showed two other sets of holes on the license plates, and looking into the car, two C.N.R. lining bars could be seen as well as pick and axe and sledge hammer, also stamped C.N.R., he said. The car was not fully locked and the ignition wire were found crossed and the radiator ot.
‘Believing whoever had the car would return. I got into an old car, six feet away,’ said Detective Hodgson. ‘Richardson went to take the police car out of sight and call for help. Then I saw three men approach. One of those men was Kenneth Green, whom I had known for two years. When he reached the driver’s side he wasn’t eight feet away. Sidney Bert went to the other side. I didn’t know him by name, but had seen him with Green before. The third man I didn’t know.
‘Green got into the driver’s seat, but couldn’t start the car. I jumped out and they ran up a lane to Paton Rd. I fired a warning shot but they escaped into a T.T.C. yard, and I put a call over the radio to pick up Kenneth Green.
‘A police car with Detective Scott and other officers arrived then and in the car was Sidney Bert. Later at No. 7 station I saw Green who had also been picked up. Green was cautioned and charged with auto theft, having burglars’ tools and having an offensive weapon.’
‘When we searched the stolen car we found two revolvers wrapped in a handkerchief on the front seat.’
[AL: Cherpeau was 36, married, from Toronto, a construction worker, with a long criminal record of 6 previous convictions in jail and a term in the reformatory. He appealed his sentence, and the appeal was dismissed August 29, 1942. He was convict #7035 at Kingston Penitentiary, and mostly worked in the tailor shop. He was reported three times for breaking the prison rules. He was released April 1944.
Moore was 42, single, an English immigrant who came in 1925 via Quebec, and claimed he was a cattle dealer. He had previously been in the reformatory. He was convict #7005 at Kingston Penitentiary and mostly worked on the prison farm. He was released March 1944, and headed back to Maple, Ontario, his hometown.]

House of 1000 Corpses director Rob Zombie and actress Jeanne Carman. Carman played a character called Miss Bunny, who re-enacted famous movie scenes using dead animals as puppets. Unfortunately, her scenes were cut from the film along with many others that were deemed too graphic for an R rating.

Goodbye Elizabeth. – there’s something different in his voice, and when she just exits the car and look at him with the help of the street lights she sees something in his eyes that just make the felling in her stomach awake, and she knows what’s he’s doing, he’s pushing her away.
We gonna meet tomorrow? – she asks just to make sure her voice is still there, and that he isn’t going anywhere again, because she made peace with herself, she knows what they are now, knows he will come to collect, and she’s okay with it.
Uhm... yeah. – he hums, but doesn’t look at her, and when she can think of something to say other then the pain in her side and the look he was giving her he is already gone.

“Where’s your brood, Elizabeth?” Rio countered.
“Well if you’re asking you must already know. Dean took them to his mother’s where they’re not in danger. Says I have to choose,” Beth intoned, no emotion bleeding through her words as they usually did.
Rio scoffed and shook his head. “Ain’t nowhere safer for those babies than in this house. Carman’s an idiot.”
Beth turned to look at him then, narrowing her eyes, “Is it? Because I’ve had a gun held to my head on more than one occasion in this house. So you tell me, how safe is that for my children, Rio?” She spat out, lips pressing together in a firm line.
Rio didn’t turn to look at her, just smirked that half-smirk that infuriated her. “You still sittin’ here alive, ain’t you? I ever show up here wit’ a gun to your face while your kids around?” He shook his head then, “Nah, I ain’t ever do that and I never would, either. Damn, you still don’t get it, do you, ma?”

"Name," he husks, mouth parched. “I need her name.”
"Beth. Elizabeth Boland.”
There it is. Three little words. Three taut burns.
“We call her ‘The Chef' but she could be a fuckin’ witch. She cooks that shiz out the back of a store, with an apron and a Vitamix."
Rio palms the man’s shoulder, smile slicing, sharper than a Japanese blade, “What store?”
“I… It’s some weird-ass name. I-I don’t remember.”
“No?” he asks sweetly, eyebrows raised up to his hairline. “That’s okay,” he chuckles, seizing the man’s sweaty nape. The dampness there makes the contact clap like the forecast for thunder. “I can help you with that.”

"Find my friend," she blurts out and he raises his brows, waiting for an explanation.
"The find my friend app. It'll show where Beth is."
She reaches for her phone but he steps back, closing out of the messages, to pull up the app. Of course these housewives would be dumb enough to leave their location on. He's gonna have to have a talk with Elizabeth. About a lot of things.
And there she is, her smiling icon placing her right in the middle of...
"A cemetery? Y'all bitches get into grave robbing when I wasn't looking?"
Annie doesn't answer right away; it takes a minute for the confused furrow of her brow to smooth out into something resembling understanding, and that's all the confirmation he needs to know the location is right. He tosses the phone back at her, lets her scramble to catch it.
"Wait–" she tries but he's already got the door open.

When she rounds back into the living room, the empty hamper sinks from her arms, smacking loud against the floor.
Cos there is a – a distinct and unexpected male presence in the room. Someone decked in head-to-toe black, almost literally. From the glossy jet shoes to the maybe charcoal-grey hat – which looks objectionably warm, if soft. Late spring is cresting entirely into summer and, particularly with the exertion of repeated stair-trotting, even in her relatively light dress, Beth doesn’t exactly feel cooled. And his buttoned up style ought to be seasonally inappropriate, not make her doubt her exposed skin, especially since he’s interrupted the privacy of her own home which–
“Aargh,” she says, exceedingly deliberate – if belated. It doesn’t seem a great effort in truth, Beth experiences that flop in the moment; the amused glimmer he gains highlights quite unnecessarily.
It reminds her a little of the way Annie tends to scoff at her insistent ow in response to Annie poking or prodding at her, as she quests for attention. Sure, that stuff doesn’t really hurt, but Beth’s adamant her disapproval over such things should be made very clear.

And The Nominees Are… (Part 2/2)
#younghowzetheatreawards
By Ricky and Dana Young-Howze
Mays Landing, NJ
Venmo: @rndyounghowze
The nominations for the first ever Young-Howze Theatre Awards are finally here! We have been working hard since March of 2020 reviewing over a hundred and forty digital productions. We have been poring over them all since January to bring you these categories and the shows vying for them.
Tumblr media
Let’s remind everyone what our criteria were: Because of the pandemic this year every show that we have reviewed was nominated for at least one category. We picked winners by a very specific set of criteria: What was this show attempting to do? Was it successful? Was it the most successful of all the shows that tried to do this? We apologize to anyone who thought that we would be announcing winners today. We decided that we wanted to save all of the spoilers for the live show on February 21st at 8PM EST. Please remember that even if you only get one nomination it is because we wanted to honor everyone who worked hard this year (every theatre artist who did a show this year deserves a medal). However we understand that specific nominations are useful for theatre creators in their resumes, grant applications etc.
All Nominees should receive a nomination email from us. If you haven’t gotten an email by Monday 11:59pm PST email is at [email protected]
Congratulations everyone! We are so proud of your accomplishments and amazing work. We’ve already seen shows this year that are award worthy. You all exceeded our expectations. Without further ado...

Carman Jones AKA Neo Killer Croc
Tumblr media
After Terry McGinnis washed up in the sewer system in Bludhaven, he was rescued but a mysterious reptilian woman with a high tech collar around her neck. She says her name is Carmen and that she lives in a abandoned part of the subways system. When the injured Terry has no idea who he is she lets him stay with her. For a few months the two become closer, with the amnesiac Terry (Or Blues as she calls him) often flirting with her. The relationship gets challenged when "Blues" discovers she has been supporting themselves by being a criminal. Carman pointing out because she is a "Freak" robbing Stores or Working as a hired thug are the only jobs available to her. "I hate it just as much as you do Blues but Freaks like me have no other options! If there was something better I'd have taken it by now!"   DNA scanners on the Batmobile Link her parentage to somehow be Killer Croc despite the fact he has been dead for 50 year with his body on display in a museum. And her at least a young woman.          Unlike the original Killer Croc she looks more human but rather transforms into a larger Beastlike form on command thanks to her Control Collar. Without it or if it's damaged she could not only loss control of her powers. Ultimately become a Feral killing machine that eats people.

“Happiness is not in our future—one day when the bills are paid, when we have everything we need. Happiness is in our present. It is right now. We can be happy now. It is a mental habit, a mental attitude. If it is not practiced in the present, it can never be experienced.”

series: merrie melodies
director: rudolf ising
starring: rudolf ising (foxy), carman maxwell (foxy)
Tumblr media
one more time gives us foxy one more time. he’s credited as both rudolf ising AND carman maxwell... i’m not certain about the validity of that, but again—88 year old cartoon. this is the end of foxy’s very short lived career. predictably, walt disney asked if harman and ising could discontinue the use of foxy for obvious reasons. it’s a shame, as much as a blatant rip-off as he is, i really like his design! i don’t know if it’s the freshness of “finally, a new character” or just the relief of “finally, not a caricature”, but he seems to have slightly more personality than bosko. still barebones and transparent, but he’s fun to watch. in this short foxy assumes the role of a police officer, but maintaining order proves to be difficult when reckless driving and kidnapping gangsters interfere with his duties.
Tumblr media
we open with our favorite copyright infringement merrily patrolling the streets. all is well, until a handful of cars speed past foxy, nearly flattening him across the road. justifiably his mood turns sour as he launches into “one more time”, a very catchy, rhythmic patter song. he dodges various cars, cursing “just one more time!” and shaking his fist.
Tumblr media
he turns a corner for safety, when a gangster unprecedentedly rises from a trashcan and shoots foxy’s hat to smithereens. in retaliation, foxy pulls a gun on him, and a mouse extends out to give a hearty whack to the gangster’s head. these gags are predictable, but how i love them! they’re just so cheesy and fun. not to mention, this entire sequence (and cartoon) is paced really well. it’s snappy and quick, but not too breakneck, either. it fits just right with the brisk tempo of the song.
focus shifts to the hippo from smile, darn ya, smile! driving a fancy car. a mouse in a tiny car behind honks at her to get out of the way, and both of them battle for dominance. in the midst of their wacky races-esque battle, foxy gets run over by the hippo. rightfully so, he tweets on his whistle and goes to right her a fine.
Tumblr media
the song portion picks up again as the two patter song in argument. what a great sequence! the timing is just right. the beat is catchy and tactile, and the voice acting is relatively good compared to what we’ve seen. foxy writes her a fine as the hippo tries to negotiate with him before bursting into crocodile tears, occasionally checking to see if foxy buys it. to get her to shut up, foxy slaps a trash can on her head and walks away.
conveniently, foxy stumbles upon roxy and her dog (who i bet was not at all influenced by pluto in any way, shape, or form). the dog is ecstatic to see foxy and pins him against a wall, showering him in licks. foxy protests and roxy giggles, borrowing bosko’s catchphrase of “ain’t that cute?”
Tumblr media
she skips away to position herself at a player piano that just happens to be handy and bangs out “one more time” on the keys. foxy’s protests and the dog’s licks are executed in time to the beat. foxy briefly ties the dog’s tongue around its snout as a muzzle, but both become overpowered by the magic of music and join in dancing.
Tumblr media
another predictable gag that warms my heart regardless—mickey foxy uses pluto the dog as a player piano, playing the music with his teeth.
however, they’re interrupted by the sound of gunshots. a bird robs another hippo of a pocketwatch and speeds away, with the police going after the criminal (complete with a cat siren).
Tumblr media
foxy chases after the bird (who is driving a tiny excuse of a car). the bird drives through a pipe, and at the other end pops out a much bigger buggy and a gang of criminals who join in the chorus of “one more time”. we have some shots of the police and then the gangsters singing the song call and response style. once again, very catchy, with some lush barbershop harmonies.
the gangsters throw a grenade at the police, stopping them in their tracks, leaving foxy with the responsibility of stopping the crime.
Tumblr media
no crime is complete without a little kidnapping! the gangsters kidnap roxy and drive off, and foxy chases behind on the same mechanical horse used by bosko in ups ‘n downs. this entire sequence happens like a breeze, it’s so fast! but not entirely in a bad way. the music is fast and it’s the climax, so the fast pace is relatively charming.
foxy races behind the gangsters, and by pulling the horse’s tail, the horse extends its mechanical head to bite roxy’s skirt and bring her to safety. the tables turn as the gangster are the ones pursuing the chase instead of initiating it.
Tumblr media
god, i love this! foxy and roxy ride into a local jail cell with the gangsters hot on their trail, and pop right out from a manhole cover, locking the criminals in the slammer. it might be a trite gag (as all of these are), but it’s nevertheless amusing.
everything’s peachy keen as the criminals give a last bar of “one more time”, and foxy bows.
Tumblr media
that is until the bird also rises from the manhole and SHOOTS FOXY IN THE BACK. iris out!
so our loveable copyright infringement was killed off! that scene is set up to be funny and not to be taken seriously, but considering this is the last time we see foxy, it wouldn’t be stretching the truth to say he was killed off.
what a short! in my opinion, this is the most polished of the foxy cartoons. the pacing is perfect! there are only some repetitive scenes towards the beginning with foxy walking down the street. the jazzy score of the music picks up the pace and allows the cartoon to be bouncy, swingy, and chipper. compared to other cartoons, the voice acting isn’t half bad! very entertaining and a good way to bid goodbye to foxy. i’d definitely recommend a watch! i might watch it again, just one more time!

Archaeologist/Indiana Jones AU with Carmen Sandiego and Red Crackle/Rebellious Birds 2
More of the Indiana Jones AU!
I’ve decided to name Archaeologist Dad Adhit meaning  “ Scholarly; Intelligent; Wise; Bestowed with Knowledge; Noble” and his last name would be Sharmila meaning “protection, comfort, joy”
Carman takes Adhit’s last name when she’s officially adopted but still calls herself Carmen Sandiego.
V.I.L.E. eventually catches wind of Carmen’s feats as a badass archaeologist and send their own team to intercept her to get their hands on the artifacts.
No surprise, it’s Gray, Tigress, El Topo, and Le Cherve
Needless to say, their team is shocked to see Black Sheep alive. Everyone assumed she ended up dead on the streets in Morocco.
Gray’s ecstatic to see her--all this time he was depressed because he thought Black Sheep was dead. He always blamed himself for messing up and letting her get away with the archaeologist. Ever since, he can’t help but hesitate with leaving no witnesses. Tigress is less than thrilled while El Topo and Le Chevre are both kinda happy and neutral.
However, Carmen is pissed--they almost killed her dad years ago if she didn’t save him in the nick of time. She’s also pissed V.I.L.E. has the balls to try and steal from her expeditions.
“It belongs in a museum!”
Yes, she does shoot her grappling hook at Gray and tries to throw him off a cliff.
Gray doesn’t know whether to fall in love or be pissed.
He’s a bit of both tbh. His best friend should come home if she was alive for all this time--why is wasting her life away on digging up old artifacts just to give them to a museum?
Carmen’s usually the one who gets around the temples and tombs unscathed due to knowledge of history and Player’s translations of the texts but Gray’s not far behind her.
Carmen reluctantly ends up saving her former friends’ asses if they almost die from booby traps due to their impatience.
Adhit hates Gray and his team--they’re trying to rob the world of knowledge for money. That’s unforgivable in his eyes.
Ivy and Zack don’t know V.I.L.E but they back Carmen.
“Who are these guys?”
“Don’t know, but if Carmen hates ‘em, they probably suck.”
Eventually because V.I.L.E keeps getting involved, A.C.M.E. gets involved. Chase and Julia join Carmen’s team.
Yes, Chase does try to outshowoff Carmen and usually ends with him almost dying. Julia is stuck between sighing and laughing her ass off.
Every time Gray’s team and Carmen meets, he tries to get closer to her. He was a criminal but he love--er--MISSED his best friend and he was determined to get them on the same side again.
Maybe flirting a little wouldn’t hurt either.

True freedom is found when it is God who is in control, and not people, events, or circumstances. This attitude frees us from animosity, hatred, aggravation, ill-will, grief, sorrow, pain, and suffering—all the things that poison and destroy your emotions, your mind, and your physical body.

Priest robbed, hit in head with gun, wants suspects to surrender
Priest robbed, hit in head with gun, wants suspects to surrender
A priest was injured Friday after someone robbed him and hit him with a gun in Little Italy, police said. Father Bernard Carman says he still has some bumps and scrapes from the incident but overall, he is doing OK. Baltimore City police said a man approached the priest, who is from St. Leo’s Catholic Church, around 4 p.m. on South Exeter Street. “I had noticed a car behind me already. I noticed…
