Man, the folks at WSU who worked on the Cosmic Crisp really produced a banger. My local grocery store just started carrying them, so this is the first time I've had them--one lived in my knitting bag for a week and it is just as firm as it was when I got it. Absolutely nuts!!

One more bee wearing flower pollen.
It was a small bush in a meadow.
The branch is coated grey because the farmer sprayed manure and slurry all over there...before the blackthorn was blooming.i think the blossoms are a variety of sloe: prunus spinosa purpurea, not a kind of cherry but iam not sure. Same i think of other bee and sloe blossoms pictures of mine here in the tumblr.

#1919 - Acaena sp. - Bidibid
Tumblr media
One last one from @purrdence’s trip up to Aoraki Mt Cook.
Biddy-biddys (piripiri in Māori) is a genus of some 50 species mostly found in Australia, New Zealand and South America, although one made it to Hawaii and one to California. On the other hand, some of the Acaenas have managed to become weeds in other parts of the world, which is highly unusual for a NZ species. Their spread is aided by the long arrow-head barb on the seeds, which attach to fur or socks. Presumably they also attach to feathers, since the only native land mammals in New Zealand were three species of bat, and one of those is probably extinct.
