objectively hilarious how alice, jasper, emmett, alice and edward are like. carlisle and esme’s children and then bella is like. the daughter in law. for all intents and purposes emmett should also be a son in law since he was like. brought in via rosalie. alice and jasper adopted themselves 

like edward and rose are carlesme’s children and then like. emmett and bella are the ones who married into the family and alice is like esme’s niece and jasper is like carlisle’s nephew who met before they met esme and carlisle and they’re basically their kids but All This To Say. bella’s the only “official” in law. and i think it’s hilarious.

I just read your post about how easily Bella was able to adjust to vampirism, and do you think it was has something to do with she had already tasted human blood before she turned?

like if we go for the eternal damnation angle, where after you're turned you're supposed to drain the life of the kind you belonged to but that doesn't happen to Bella nor does she suffer through it as she had already tasted Blood and thus had already damned herself therefore making her immune???

I mean I know Smeyer didn't go for that angle but this adds an added layer of depth and darkness to the whole "Eww Bella drank Human Blood and LIKED IT" and " Wow, Bella has adjusted so well to being a vampire" like i feel like it ties the whole thing up in a neat lil bow

I could get behind this! She's already tasted human blood, "screwed her total," as she said, before she even becomes a vampire, and so she's primed for it, she's already doomed. There's no angst because the vampire essence had already taken root. I could also accept that the James bite did something to her, or even the pregnancy had changed her in a way that made the adjustment to vampirism less of a shock to the system.

I still wouldn't love that it was such an easy, non-event though. I don't, personally, feel like becoming a supernatural creature with an insatiable blood thirst is something you can really "mentally prepare" for. Like sure, making the choice beforehand and being informed might take the edge off; it could remove a few of the layers of chaos and fear, and that could help. She's not waking up in a strange world surrounded by strange people like the others were. But it should still be hard. You're still dealing with all-new senses, all-new instincts, all-new painful bloodthirst. "I just thought about it and made up my mind not to eat people!" is such a boring explanation.

And also, for me, the whole thing I found compelling was this sort of impossibly difficult and painful self-denial the Cullens had going on. It's only interesting if it's difficult. Newborn!Carlisle banishing himself to the woods and trying to starve himself for months and then spending centuries perfecting his self-control enough to be a doctor is just WAY more interesting to me than Bella hanging out with her human dad on day 2 of vampirism. Alice wandering alone and trying to make sense of her visions and having only "sporadic success" at not eating people is a hundred times more interesting to me than newborn!Bella dressing up all sexy and going to meet a lawyer. The mental image of Carlisle, Edward, Esme and Rosalie ALL having to tackle newborn!Emmett to try and keep him from eating someone because he's so outrageously strong is way more compelling (and scary! and sad!) than Bella just getting "distracted" by Edward and not eating the hikers. Jasper still struggling with the bad habits he picked up in the vampire wars; Rosalie killing her attackers without spilling a drop of blood because she knew she wouldn't be able to resist that; lovely gentle Esme slipping up and killing people and having to come home to Dr. Perfect Record with red eyes. Edward going on his rebellion because he didn't want to be in pain any more. THAT's the stuff I find compelling, that's the stuff that sucked me into this series.

But totally! At least explain her success with some actual lore. She's already tasted blood, she's already been bitten, she's been somehow changed by the nightmare pregnancy. All of that is better than "mentally prepared." Or at the very very very least really make it clear her success was about her circumstances. It was easier for her because she was informed and supported, not because she's innately magic or unusually self-controlled.

“How are we gonna do this?” Rosalie asked after receiving some sort of message from Emmett in an apparent “Operation: Get Carlisle and Stella to Make Up and Make Out”

“Well, we need to trap them together first.” Emmett said

“Trap who together?” Alice asked, walking in on the two of them discussing

“Stella and Carlisle.” Emmett answered

“Ooh!” Alice said, joining in the discussion

“I heard Carlisle and Stella discussion.” Jasper said, joining the three of them

The four of them started discussing of ways on how to get them to talk to each other again. It was obvious that they didn’t have much planned. That was until a knock on their door was heard

“Who knocks on our house?” Rosalie asked, speeding and opening the door for whoever it was.

“Stella!” Rosalie greeted, a grin on her face spreading

“Where’s Carlisle?” She asked in a rush, her whole body tensed

“You’re talking to him now?” Rosalie asked her with hopeful eyes as Alice, Emmett, and Jasper enters the room, shocked to see Stella

“Where’s Carlisle?” She asked again, and it seemed that she wasn’t gonna let anyone distract her from her main purpose of visiting

“Here.” Carlisle said, it seemed like he had done something but no one could pinpoint what it was

“You and I are having a long chat.” Stella hissed angrily, dragging him in the kitchen of the house by the ear. From the looks of it, Stella could have pulled Carlisle’s ear off in anger.

“Should we worry for him?” Jasper asked, sensing the tensed atmosphere

“No, he’s at fault. He’s getting his karma.” Rosalie said, sensing that they were about to witness an angry witch

“What’s happening?” Edward asked, entering the house with Bella

“Stella and Carlisle.” The four answered in chorus

“You foul vampire!” Stella angrily yelled at the vampire, who was sitting down on one of the island chairs like a child that was about to be scolded “You can’t do that!”

“Dear—

"You can't just leave and come back and think that I'll be accepting you with open arms!" Stella angrily yelled at Carlisle, who cannot do anything other than to listen at her outburst

“You can’t casually send me an email as an apology thinking I will forgive you with just that!” Stella hissed, shaking from holding back her tears

“Because you know I will!” Stella yelled, frustratingly running her hands through her hair “You know I’ll always forgive you, I just wanted to hear it from you instead of some stupid email!”

"Stella—

"You can’t just persuade me to join a night’s out and get me to go home only to have all of you gone!” Stella continued, her tone louder than the last

“You can’t do that!” She cried, pointing her fingers at him and doing everything in her power, literally and figuratively, to not show weakness at this vampire she once trusted

However, she was unable to conceal it from Carlisle. As the next thing she knew was how she felt Carlisle’s cold but comforting arms around her, pulling her closer to him, and allowing her to cry on his chest. Stella always hid any sort of weakness to anyone, in fear that it would be used against her. It’s what they taught to her growing up. But she felt vulnerable, knowing that the guy she had discovered to be her mate may and can abandon her at any time.

Carlisle had never seen Stella break down as she did now in all the centuries that they've known each other. He was devastated to learn that he was the one who had led her to have such a big breakdown. He had long suspected that she was his mate, and his suspicions had been confirmed. And it was only after he departed that he understood how badly he screwed things up. Because he opted to depart rather than remain with her. He opted to be self-centered. With his selfishness came the risk of losing his mate by his side.

“I’m sorry.” Carlisle muttered repeatedly, rubbing her back and holding her close to him. He vows on that day to never leave her again; he has all of eternity to fix his relationship with her. And he’s gonna start now.

“My confident witch, my star, my Stella, I’m so sorry for hurting you this way.” He whispered, leaving pecks of assurance on the temples of her head “It was selfish of me to leave you after what had happened.”

“You l-left.” Stella cried, though it was muffled from the fabric of Carlisle’s shirt “You a-all left. You left u-us.”

“And it was the worst mistake that ever came across my mind.” Carlisle comforted, rubbing her back and playing with her hair “Leaving you is the worst mistake that I have ever done. And I apologize for hurting you this way.”

Carlisle made no attempt to make her stop because she deserved to let out all of the grief that she had been holding in for months in order to be strong for both herself and Bella.

“I’m sorry mi amor,” Carlisle hushed, looking at Stella’s swollen face “I will never, ever leave you again. Unless you want me to.”

“N-no.” Stella argued almost immediately “Never leave like that again, I need you.”

“Then I will never leave.” Carlisle decided at once “You will never be alone again, I will be with you from now on until the end of eternity.”

“You better be.” Stella said, a small laugh coming out her lips

“Come, it seems like you haven’t gotten a lot of rest.” Carlisle offered

“Will you be there when I wake up?” Stella asked, looking at him with hopeful eyes

“I will be with you until my heart stops beating.” Carlisle announced at one

Stella blushed at what Carlisle had said, wanting nothing more than to hold on to Carlisle’s words. She was still wary, Carlisle knew that. But he had all of eternity to prove that he would never leave her like that again.

And that eternity starts today.

“What’s happening?” Bella asked everyone who was listening intently just outside the kitchen

“Either we’re getting Stella back in this house, or I’m throwing Edward for suggesting that we leave Forks.” Rosalie said in an annoyed tone, getting Emmett to have a small proud smile on his face

"Let's not blame each other." Bella said, trying to ease the atmosphere

"Stella and Carlisle have always had this sort of relationship where you don't know if they're together or not. I can't possibly be at fault alone." Edward defensively said

“They’re each other’s mate!” Rosalie hissed angrily “They know that! And we know that!”

“Carlisle wouldn’t be this protective of Stella if she wasn’t his mate.” Jasper agreed with Rosalie

“I can’t believe we have a coven leader who has never asked his mate to be with him for eternity.” Emmett said, showing frustration at how Carlisle handles his relationship with Stella

“Because we play a part in getting them together.” Alice said, just finishing having a vision

“What’d you mean?” Edward asked, even though he could read into her mind

“We plan it out.” Bella said in realization “We see what we can do to actually get them to tell each other what they feel, given that they haven't said anything to each other yet.”

“What are you thinking?” Rosalie asked, hopeful that Bella actually had a plan on helping Carlisle and Stella to be together. It was the first time that Rosalie actually wanted to listen to her

“What are you planning?” Stella’s voice boomed from outside the kitchen, Carlisle behind her like some lost puppy

“Nothing!” All of them said in chorus. Even though Stella knew that it wasn’t just ‘nothing’

“Come, you need some rest.” Carlisle invited, his arms making its way to rest on Stella’s waist

“I think the fuck not.” Rosalie said, walking to Stella and hugging her, pulling her away from Carlisle “I missed you so so so much!”

“If it ever comes down to choosing between you and Carlisle, count me on your team.” Emmett teased, hugging Stella next as Rosalie pulled away

“Count me in too!” Alice gleefully said, tackling Stella in a tight hug

“Just for Carlisle, I’ll stay with him.” Jasper joked before hugging Stella “But I will make sure to miss you every day and influence Carlisle with it too.”

Edward was last, he was awkward while moving to Stella and facing her. He had a speech in mind before Stella tackled him to a hug

“Never ever be a dumbass again.” Stella said, feeling Edward hug her back

Carlisle watched as they all hug Stella, a content smile on his face. He didn’t know what could still happen, seeing as Bella was still human and Stella was on the Volturi’s watchlist.

But he was now back with his confident witch.

All is well.

“Fighting again?” Stella asked an anxious Carlisle

“A newborn army, and no, you’re not joining the fight. You’re staying with Bella and Edward.” Carlisle quickly instructed, earning a groan from Stella

“I’m not babysitting two horny teenagers!” Stella argued, while Edward let out a ‘hey’ from upstairs “I’m gonna fight!”

“You’re not gonna—

“Who are you to stop me?” Stella asked in a dangerous tone

Her question caught Carlisle off guard. Who was he to be this protective of her? Was he willing to let her know his suspicion that she was his mate?

“I know I’m your mate and all but come on!” Stella whined “You can't be too protective of me, especially when I'm capable of handling myself. What good is being the blessed witch of today if I never use my abilities?”

“You know I’m your mate?” Carlisle asked, a hint of glee in his tone

“And you ignored the other part, of course you ignored the—

Carlisle had lost control of himself, 286 years of being with her, 280 years of pining. He ran in and grabbed her by the waist, kissing her on the lips in the process. The warmth of her body was pressed against the coldness of his. It was contrasting but it was perfect for the both of them. Her warm hands found its way to rest on his chest, taking support. They would have continued in that position for much longer if it hadn't been for the witch's need to breathe.

“I’ve waited bit too long for that.” Stella teased, wrapping her arms around Carlisle’s neck. The both of them having giddy smiles on their face

“I hope it was worth the wait.” Carlisle teased back, before going in for another kiss, pulling her closer to him

"Carlisle, we have train— that explains the emotions." Jasper said, seeing what was happening between their coven leader and his strong witch

"It's not what it looks like." Carlisle said defensively, pulling away from Stella. Before leaving the room, Jasper only nodded. But Stella knew he wasn't going to believe anything Carlisle said, especially since they'd all been waiting decades for them to get together.

“You seem so offended with the thought of us together.” Stella said, crossing her arms, and frowning at Carlisle

“Mi amor, I've been waiting for this for a long time; all I ask is that they don't find out through Jasper or Edward's abilities.” Carlisle comforted, wrapping his arms around Stella’s body. Smiling as he rests his head on her shoulders

“We have training!” Emmett shouted from outside the door, most likely receiving instructions from Jasper not to burst in.

There were flying bodies everywhere. All the vampires are being destroyed by the Cullens or by the wolves.

“Carlisle, watch out!” Stella screamed, too far away to help Carlisle since two vampires were focusing their attacks on her.

Rosalie stepped in to help Stella beat the two vampires. Carlisle ran up behind Stella, refusing to be separated from her for the remainder of the fight. They were each other's eyes and ears, guarding one other against the vampires that wanted them dead.

The two was about to kill another vampire, though she showed hesitancy in fighting back. Carlisle looked at Stella, who was already looking at him, and knew what this would mean for them. She was young and it looked like she didn’t even know that this was the purpose as to why she was changed.

And soon, the battle between the newborns and the Cullens and wolves came to an end. Edward informed everyone that the Volturi are coming and that the wolves should leave. Carlisle informed their pack leader that he would follow soon to take care of Jacob, who had his bones broken from a newborn.

“Impressive. I've never seen a coven escape an assault of this magnitude intact.” Jane said, seeing glimpses of the burning vampires

“It’s only because they have a witch on their side.” Alec said, a chuckle escaping his lips

“What would a weakling like her do to an assault like this?” Jane snickered “Surprised that she’s still alive.”

“She’s more than capable of fending for herself.” Carlisle said, pushing Stella behind him.

Even though he knew Stella was capable of protecting him and herself, he was still afraid. He left the Volturi on bad terms centuries ago, but he didn't simply disappear. He pulled Stella into his mess, dragging her into the messy world of being a vampire in a world full of vampires that didn't think witches and humans were worth anything. He was now afraid that this was his long-awaited retribution, and that Stella would be the one to pay the price.

“It appears we missed an entertaining fight.” Alec said, looking at the vampire bodies burning near them

“Yes.” Jane agreed “It's not often we're rendered unnecessary.”

“If you'd arrived a half hour ago, you would've fulfilled your purpose.” Edward said, in annoyance of the Volturi’s presence

“Pity.” Jane said, before her eyes averted on the newborn behind Carlisle and Stella “You missed one.”

“She’s with us now.” Stella immediately said, taking a step forward

“We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender.” Carlisle added, backing his confident witch up

“That wasn’t yours to offer.” Jane disagreed

“Nor should you offer any punishment as she surrendered herself.” Stella argued before stabs of pain was in her body. Stella let out a yell, dropping to the floor, and realizing that Jane was using her abilities on her.

“Stop!” Carlisle yelled, shaking Stella as she groans from the pain “She has nothing to do with this!”

“Oh, she has everything to do with this.” Jane said, looking at her

With Jane’s comment, she launched one more assault on Stella, knocking her out cold because of the excruciating anguish she was experiencing.

“She’s waking up! Call Carlisle!” Stella heard a voice call, and multiple footsteps come in and out the room. But what was dominant was the pain in her head.

“Carlisle is in the middle of a surgery!” Another voice yelled, knowing that Carlisle would want to do some check-ups on her before allowing her to go back to moving around

“How are you feeling?” Alice’s sweet voice asked, trying to block the noise from everyone that was panicking

“Shit.” Stella muttered, opening her eyes and adjusting to the bright light of the room

“How does it feel, Jane’s power?” Bella asked her, wiping her forehead with cold wipes

“Like thousands of knives have been stabbed in me, but not so much.” Stella explained “How long have I been out?”

“Like 6 days or so.” Bella answered “Carlisle has been more anxious lately since he expected you to wake up after 3 days.”

“Do you want anything?” Rosalie asked

“Carlisle, maybe.” Stella said, frowning from the lack of presence from her vegetarian vampire

“Of course, she’ll ask for Carlisle.” Jasper grinned, knowing how much information he and Edward were withholding from those who couldn't sense emotions or read minds.

 “Carlisle’s on the phone, he wants to talk to Stella.” Edward said as Bella and Alice helped Stella to sit up. Stella grabs the phone from Carlisle and ushered everyone out the room to give a little bit of privacy between him and her

“Hello, mi amor.” Carlisle greeted, and even if he wasn’t in the room, Stella knew that he had a wide grin on his face

“Hi Carlisle.” Stella greeted back, a soft smile creeping on her face

“How are you feeling love?” Carlisle asked

“I don’t know how to explain it.” Stella answered honestly

“Throw words, I’ll understand you.” Carlisle comforted. Despite the fact that she knew it was because he was a doctor, Stella felt butterflies in her stomach because Carlisle seemed to understand her effortlessly, despite the fact that what she was saying no longer made sense.

“Dear, I know that I have my way to your heart, but you have to let me know what you’re feeling.” Carlisle teased Stella, followed by a light giggle, in an attempt to bring her back to her senses.

“It’s just there’s pain in my body.” Stella started explaining “Like there’s something in me just poking my head and sending pain all over.”

“Anything more?” Carlisle asked with a hum

“I don’t know. I think I just need my vampire with me at the moment.” Stella said in a low voice but she knew Carlisle got that

“Well, your vampire is needed at the hospital at the moment. Would you like any of the vampire kids to substitute in the time being?” Carlisle asked her “Or human, if you’re preferring Bella right now.”

“Eh, we’ll see later.” Stella shrugged “You go back to work now; I’ll see you later tonight.”

“Yes, you better stay in bed and rest, mi amor.” Carlisle reminded her

“But—

“If I get informed by any of the others that you left bed today. I won’t give you your daily cuddles.” Carlisle threatened, earning an angry gasp from Stella “I have not done any of my check up to you, I’ll need to make sure that you’re perfectly alright now.”

“Fine.” Stella could only mutter angrily before ending the call

“They’re together, aren’t they?” Rosalie asked from outside the door. They shouldn’t be eavesdropping, but it was Carlisle and Stella, and they have been waiting forever for them to end up together

“No.” Jasper and Edward answered at once

“Are you serious?” Emmett asked

“Yeah, they haven’t made anything official yet.” Edward answered to them

“Oh, for fuck’s sake!”

Edward and Bella were on their honeymoon at Isla Stella, an island Carlisle bought for her way back the 1900’s, spending time alone as a newlywed couple while the rest of the Cullens stayed back.

“100 dollars, and we’re coming back with vampire Bella.” Emmett said, throwing the 100 dollars on the coffee table

“100 dollars and we’re not coming back with vampire Bella.” Rosalie intervened, throwing her 100 dollars next to Emmett’s 100 dollars

“Not coming back with vampire Bella.” Jasper said, throwing his 100 dollars with Rosalie’s money

“1000 dollars in the not having vampire Bella yet.” Alice said, grabbing 1000 dollars and placing it with Rosalie and Jasper’s money

“Are you betting the outcome of their honeymoon?” Stella asked, walking in and seeing the dollars on the table

“…no?” Rosalie answered, though it came out like a question

“2000 dollars and we’re not having vampire Bella until later.” Stella said, using her magic to make 2000 dollars appear on her hands and dropping it on the coffee table

“I don’t think so though.” Emmett disagreed, grabbing his wallet and dropping at least 300 more dollars on the table “I saw what Alice packed for Bella, I think dear Edward is to lose control.”

“Are you betting about Edward and Bella?” Carlisle asked, resting his body on the doorway. Stella turned around and saw her vampire, wearing a fitted button up sleeve that made her witch heart beat just a teeny bit faster

“Yes.” Stella confessed, a cheeky grin on her face

“What did I say about betting?” Carlisle reminded everyone

“That they shouldn’t do it with me.” Stella answered for them, grinning widely at him

“You really are a bad influence to our kids.” Carlisle said, an endearing smile on his face as he moves to where she was, resting his hand on her waist and pecking her forehead

Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, and Alice exchanged smirking glances. They could see where this was going and couldn't wait. It had been much too long since they had known and had this kind of connection, and it was time for them to be together.

“You love me.” Stella teased, a giddy smile on her face

And before Carlisle could answer, Rosalie’s phone started ringing.

“Bella?” Rosalie asked as she answered the phone

“I need your help.” Bella said

Edward and Bella were returning the next day. Bella's baby bump was visible, and Edward remained silent. Carlisle began using ultrasounds, but none of them were able to penetrate the fetal sac. And Alice was not seeing the kid or Bella in the future. Stella went through all of her literature, looking for anything on a human-vampire relationship. Looking for anything that could be of assistance.

“Shit.” Stella said in realization, understanding that she has to leave.

And when everyone was out looking for food at night. Stella gathered some of her belongings into a tiny suitcase and informed Bella and Jacob of her plans. Bella's eyes showed the grief of Stella's departure, but she accepted after some persuasion. She grabbed one of Carlisle's shirts before heading out, just to have a small remembrance of her home.

Bidding her goodbyes to Bella and Jacob, Stella quickly flew up in the sky. So high that she wasn’t gonna be visible down where the Cullens were hunting. She didn’t think that the day will come where she’ll have to come back to where it all started. She was anxious, but she didn’t want to leave her family in the dark.

She was sure that Italy had some answers to her questions.

Chapter three.

The week was actually normal. To me, that was awesome... that's all I truly dreamed of for two long years. Finally, my problems, are regular teen problems.

When Saturday came, Carlisle invited me to hunt with Esme and him, they do try their best to parent me. Hunting is always a mixed experience, I am not quite good at the craft, so they always help me grab my prey. I feel like a baby lion.

"You got this Y/n! I'm sure in a couple months you are going to be so good at hunting." Esme is the cutest vampire ever. However, I still feel less like a vampire. Such mixed feelings, hating to be a vampire and hating to be bad at it. Lots of hate in my heart.

The couple held hands and started walking in front of me. Esme and Carlisle were worried about Alice's new vision, and some new members of the Volturi clan escalated to meet me. All vampires respond to their big three, I don't remember their names and don't really want to.

Since Renesmee birth, the Volturi clan has kept an eye on us. Carlisle thinks the newborns that are coming, are being tested by them as well. Alice saw them as four brothers, one girl, and three boys.

" They don't really think of a fight coming. However, let's not be naive and prepare for all outcomes." I overhear Carlisle. " Let's prepare Renesmee and Y/n. They are too young to fight but must know how to protect themselves."

" Jacob wants to hide Renesmee," Esme confesses. "She's going to be in La Push for the next month, as we don't know exactly when will they come."

"I think it's good, after all, they only want to meet Y/n. See for themselves if she has any powers that could be important for the Volturi clan." He responds while looking at the horizon.

I am not nervous about meeting the four of them. I have nothing that would benefit them... I am a vampire who can barely hunt...

Back at the Cullen mansion, Renesmee was found watching sports with Emmett. My conversations with him had been few for the past years... He is incredibly loud and the way he hunts scares me the most. He never mistreats me, however, his personality is just too much for me to handle.

I waved shyly, Renes blew me a kiss while laughing at some comment Jasper had made about the sport. Rosalie on the other hand followed me back to my room. "How it went?" She asked about my hunting, and I said "As usual, I am not meant to be a vampire, Rose."

"None of us were darling... Just Bella, she annoyingly accepted this fate!" We both laughed, Alice entered my bedroom with Bella by her side also laughing. We were all crowded on my giant bed, it felt like they were trying their best to calm me down.

"I am not nervous girls," I said calmly.

"We know, but I saw their tests on you...They believe Carlisle transforms the best vampires... And they think you might be their new pet." Alice stated while hugging me sweetly.

"Our history with the Volturi has been worse than you can imagine. They aren't easy to deal with," said Bella.

"They will want to bring you to Volterra. So Aro can see you in person.'' Alice told me with the saddest tone I ever saw her speak.

Silence filled my bedroom and suddenly the girls weren't filling the space like before. I will be left alone, I will be with the Volturi, and Aro himself will test me.

Which reader has it worse? (Worst to best)

1. Yandere cullens reader

Reader is emotionally, verbally and most of the time physically abused

They would have to deal with being treated like a child for hundreds of years all while everyone imposes their fantasy of what they have to be

She has to be Rosalie’s sweet girl

She has to be Edwards therapist

She has to be Alice’s doll

She had to be jaspers constant gratification

She has to be Esme’s mommas girl

She has to be Carlisle’s daddy’s girl

She has to be Emmett’s cute little sis

She has to be bellas only friend who gives good advice and lends an ear

Reader can’t even have the privacy of hating them in their mind because Edward is constantly going through their thoughts

They have to be all these things all the time without a mental rest and also balancing their power

If they put one foot over line Carlisle has them kicking and screaming from punishment

Readers early life will be good most of the time

Apart from the occasional outburst from David and the constant abandonment from Paul reader would grow up with the thought of a decent childhood because of Dwayne, marko, max and star

It all comes crumbling down when reader becomes a teenager

The boys can’t handle you growing a personality outside of them, they wish they could mould you with the qualities they wish to enforce on you

They will constantly abuse you, most of the time mentally and verbally but occasionally physically

They cause reader to go into constant depressive episodes and only take interest in them when it’s convenient for them

Once reader grows up to be a person with desires and goal outside of them, they grow colder and more strict

They heard readers calls for help and thought that it was for attention

Not to mention the punishment room that reader never really recovered from

The boys would rather have you be dead than away from them

So all in all, much better than the cullens but much worse than the rest

3. Yandere Micheal Myers daughter

Michael genuinely cares for reader in his own way

While yes, he may view them slightly as a pet, he still cares about them

He makes himself more available for them

Michael stayed in the mental institution for so long because it meant that he could have you in their younger years

He loves reader more than most things in his life, accept for killing

That means that when he does break out and track you down when your old enough to take care of yourself, he’ll leave you for weeks to get his bloodlust out

He does this so you don’t see him being aggressive because sometimes he gets concerned that he may accidentally hurt you

What puts Michael so low on this list is the lack of physical or verbal abuse

He refuses to lay a single finger on you

You two have a fight? He does to kill to get the anger out

The only times he ever came off as aggressive is the times you’ve asked to leave and he’s broken things around him in frustration

He may use his size to block exits or to intimidate but he will not hurt you

He’s gone for weeks on end so if you want to leave what’s realistically stopping you?

There’s no locks on the doors or windows, your allowed a phone, you can go out, food is delivered to your door every week

You could leave at any moment and yes Michael may find you but he won’t hurt you or take you back

He’ll just watch to make sure your safe and kill people he sees as a bad influence

He just wants to make sure your safe

The only reason he isn’t the best is because he will not accept you growing up and he killed your family

Once cullen reader has escaped the cullens, they would take anything

If we follow the plot we know that most if not all of the volturi are yandere

Yet they don’t use this to excuse cruel actions towards you

They give you options and let you grow into a person

The volturi kings even offer and provide mates for you while the cullens killed anyone who you could even consider an friend

They would respect your diet, accommodate your powers and provide you with outings and experiences

They can be cruel and controlling but compared to the cullens they are a cake walk

Which of the cullens is most likely to get them haunted by a cursed doll, and what would they do once they were?

I will always think of this beautiful Simpsons episode.

But alright, let's do this.

Alice

Alice notices her future blink out when she interacts with the doll (as she interacts with a haunted doll which she can't see). Alice throws it out and chooses the futures where she doesn't deal with the doll/blink out.

As a result, Alice either uncurses herself or else never gets cursed.

Bella

Highly likely.

Either in the New Moon period Hallucination Edward tells her not to touch the doll so Bella touches the doll then has no strength of will to avoid being possessed.

Otherwise, Bella feels impervious to all danger being a vampire now/protected by Edward and so touches the doll because "ooh, shiny". She gets possessed easily.

Carlisle

A connoisseur of the bizarre, Carlisle is ready to believe in evil dolls. While he tries to dismiss it at first he accepts that it's possessed by an alien consciousness that is perhaps malign.

This likely saves him from being possessed or haunted.

Edward

If the doll talks a good game then Edward's doomed.

Emmett

While Emmett has no interest in the doll he also wouldn't take it seriously when it starts acting mildly weird. This leaves him open to attack.

Esme

Esme, weirdly, is too detached from reality to likely easily be haunted or possessed. The doll is no doubt terrorizing, but Esme looks on the bright side of things. The doll finds itself at a loss.

Jasper

Entirely too paranoid to end up in this mess. The doll gets lit on fire in early stages.

Renesmee

Growing up in a bubble, Renesmee doesn't realize this is strange and is easy pickings for the cursed doll.

Rosalie

Rosalie doesn't trust creepy dolls and finds it tacky looking. She doesn't give it enough time of day to be cursed as she too probably lights it on fire.

If the cullens were in the TVD universe, headcanons

Obviously, the Cullens are still considered "vegetarians." And one of the few vampire clans that feed off of animal blood.

Carlisle is Lexi Branson's real father, and you can't tell me otherwise.

Lexi would introduce Stefan to the Cullens, and Carlisle and Esme would be the psrents that Stefan needed.

Edward and Stefan were distant around each other at first, but then they got along and got real close later.

They are still mostly located in Washington Forks, but they still travel.

Damon would obviously meet them and at first hate them for stealing his brother, and I also think he feels like he's being replaced.

Lexi loves Esme and Carlisle and her adopted siblings.

Stefan, Lexi, Emmett, and Alice definitely go to Bon Jovi concerts together.

Stefan and Rosalie bonded over fixing vehicles together.

Stefan and Jasper get along decently, but I think Damon and Jasper would be closer, considering they were both soldiers.

Carlisle and Esme did not like Damon's behavior along with the trouble and misery he caused Stefan, but they know Damon's Stefan's brother and that Stefan loves him despite everything.

Damon (lowkey) gets close with the Cullen family and (maybe 😏) a connection blooms between him and Rosalie (ENEMIES TO LOVERS!!)

After Caroline was turned, she joined the Cullen clan, and they loved their new member of their family.

Stefan and Edward definitely went through the rebellious ripper phase together (big sister Lexi fixed them)

The cullens would know of the Mikaelson (what vampire doesn't know of them?) and would fear the Mikaelsons as much as anyone, but when it comes to Stefan, Damon, Caroline or anyone of their family, they would die for them.

Family reunions every few years.

Hate Katharine with a passion, especially Alice, Rosalie, and Lexi (protective sisters... Let's gooooo!!!!)

When they got introduced to Elena, they obviously have concerns (mostly Lexi and Rosalie). But they learn to accept Stefan and Damon's choice of women (Rosalie doesn't like Elena, same with Bella)

The cullens are gonna get involved with the drama at mystic falls (obviously), same thing with Stefan and Damon getting involved with the Cullen drama.

The Volturi are terrified of the Mikaelsons but at the same time worship them (Elijah obviously created them)

Bonnie is cautious of them, but she gets along well with some of the cullens.

Caroline and Alice obviously are fashion sisters

Stefan, I feel like would kind of get along with Jacob since they both are into auto mechanics.

My take on Twilight Mates - Part 1 Soulmates/True mates.

I still question whether vampires actually ‘mate’ for life, and I will delve deeper into this in a later post. For now, I can categorically say that I do not believe in the ‘true mate’ or ‘soulmate’ trope. 

By ‘true mate’, I mean the idea that two individuals, irrespective of them being vampires or humans, who are destined to be together. They usually feel some kind of inexplicit pull towards each other the instant they meet, and it’s like the universe is always coming up with ways for them to meet. 

When I wrote my first twilight fanfiction 8 years ago, I was obsessed with this trope. The notion of a human having a metaphysical and unbreakable bond with a beautiful and powerful vampire was the perfect premise for my self-inserted fanfictions.

But my stance has changed, and there are a few reasons for this:

First: How does it actually work?

This is especially relevant for vampires, who are often over hundreds, if not thousands of years old. Most vampires also do not interact with humans or other vampires. All this is to say that the chances of vampires meeting their destined mate is not looking good statistically. Therefore, considering the amount of vampires who are ‘mated’ in canon, I highly doubt the plausibility of there actually being a ‘destined’ mate, 

Also, what happens if a vampire does not find their ‘mate’ in time to turn them before they pass away? What if their mate existed before their existence? Are they subjected to a mate-less eternity, or simply ‘mate’ with someone and accept the reality that they have settled for second best, and might never meet their ‘true mate’? What if they find their ‘true mate’ after already having mated with someone? 

It’s all quite depressing. 

Second: How it impacts the characters and their relationship dynamic. 

If you were told that your partner is destined to be with you, and would love and support you unconditionally, just how healthy is that? Not to mention the underlying ethical implications involving personal autonomy. (*Imprinting has left the room*).

Personally, I would want my partner to fall in love with me because of my qualities, values, or aspects about myself that I am proud of and worked hard to achieve. If I were told that my partner would still love me even if I were a horrible, abusive, lazy, selfish narcissist, I would seriously question the foundations of our relationship. 

It also takes away the abundance of complexities and challenges that come with relationships, especially one involving a vampire and human. Knowing they are fated to each other really lowers the stake (pun not intended). 

Third: Why do we still do it? 

It feels safe:

For many authors and readers (myself included…), the idea that a vampire, who is theoretically better than humans in every way, is destined to be with us and will never leave us, is very reassuring. Less work and uncertainty is involved in the relationship dynamic because even the universe wants us to be together. 

It is convenient:

This is especially relevant in the twilight-verse, where vampires often view humans as poultry, and other vampires as territorial threats. It is certainly not the optimal premise for falling in love and developing a substantial and meaningful relationship. 

I think Stephanie Meyer herself recognises this, hence why most relationships in the book feel very sudden, shallow or lacking depth. There is the recurring theme of them meeting…and then being in love. Rosalie saved Emmett from the bear, and they are now in love; Carlisle saved Esme from her fall, and they are now in love; Alice saved Jasper by finding him, and they are now in love. 

Sure, the book is written in Bella’s perspective which partially explains the lack of detail, but this is also a convenient device for Meyer, and enables her to justify this lack of depth by presenting these supposedly strong relationships and circumvent the crucial question of how they manage to fall in love in the first place. *The recurring theme of one partner ‘saving’ another warrants a post on its own in the future.*

Kate and Garett were the only other vampire couple that got together right before our eyes, and I want to have a gentle conversation with anyone who is convinced by their relationship. 

If Stephanie Meyer struggles to do it herself, I wouldn’t blame fanfiction writers. It is very convenient to rely on a supernatural bond to force proximity between the characters. It also explains why a particular vampire would waste time to discover how attractive and special their lunch really is, instead of immediately going in for the kill. 

Overall comments:  

This is not a complaint, nor is it me trying to discourage people from continuing to pursue this trope. The wonderful thing about fanfictions is that there is no right or wrong in most cases. It provides an outlet for people to share their creativity and channel their inner fantasies through their characters and worldbuilding, and there is nothing wrong with that.

That being said, I always appreciate fanfictions that are able to explore and portray the originating of a convincing and authentic relationship in Twilight, without relying on a predetermined, supernatural bond. This is especially difficult to achieve for human x vampire pairings (particularly with some of the blood-drinking/Volturi vampires who have little regard for humans). I'm always so curious to discover how a meal can prove their worth to them.

Headcanons for Sam Uley with a vampire boyfriend please 🙏

Sam Uley. You know the name. The alpha of the La Push wolf pack. Half brother to Embry Call. Hard. He’d never imprinted on Emily Young. That honor went to Leah Clearwater. Jared, Paul, Quil and Jacob had all imprinted and Sam, while happy for them, was resentful that a lot of his brothers had imprinted and found their soulmates.

Sam was loney. He wanted to have someone to love. He didn’t even care if it was a guy. Despite the elders, LGBTQ+ was wholly accepted in La Push thanks to One Billy Black. 

There was a ninth Cullen no one knew about. Y/N Cullen. You were turned after 9/11. you were one of the selfless police officers who tried to help those trapped. 

Emmett was the one to turn you. The entire Cullen clan (minus Jasper) was at ground zero helping. Emmett tried to save you without using the bite. He really did. Despite what people chose to believe, Emmett was serious. He had learnt medicine from Carlisle and despite every trick he used Emmett had only one option to save you. So, he turned you. Carlisle wanted to be mad. But, when he thought about you and the reasons why, he couldn’t even find it in himself to be annoyed.

You were 18. Fresh out of the NYPD academy. You wanted to be a cop since you were three. So you jumped at the chance to become one right after High school. You served with honor and distinction right until your last breath. You were grateful to Emmett for saving you. You were a bit miffed at having to wait a while before you could be a cop again but you’d rather wait until you had your blood thirst under control until you returned to duty. 

When the Cullens moved to forks you were still in Alaska. You didn’t like moving. Something you hated even as a kid. So you stayed in Alaska until you got word from Carlisle that the voltri wanted to kill your nice Reneesme. You were called in as they needed all hands on deck. You came running. You had never met Bella, Jacob, or any of the pack. You sent a gift to the wedding but you stayed away. Mainly because you couldn’t bear to see everyone with their mates. You’d never believed in soulmates until you were turned. Seeing the way Carlisle and Esme or Alice and Jasper or Emmett and Rosalie looked at each other made you believe. But, It also made you hurt. It seemed everyone but you and Edward had your mates and it tore at your very soul. You knew sooner or later you would meet your soulmate but until then, you were content to be away from your adopted family. 

You drove your Mustang as fast as you could without getting a ticket. Time was of the essence. The voltri had said they would appear at the first fall of snow. It was december 5th. You had planned to spend Christmas with your family anyway. However this made sure that you would be planning and training as hard as you possibly can. It just wasn’t your life that depended on it. It was Carlisle, Emse, Emmett, Jasper, Alice, Rosalie, Edward, Bella, Reneesme and the pack’s lives at stake too. And you’d be damned if you went down without a fight. You would fight for your family until your head got separated from your body.

As you pulled up to the house, well manson, You saw more cars then what belonged to your family in the driveway. This made you both happy and nervous. You were happy that your family had allies. But, you were nervous as you’ve never met shifters before. As you stepped into the house you were surprised to find yourself being hugged by alice. You were all smiles as your family greeted you. You very much missed them. When you were introduced to Bella she was cold to you. You just assumed it was the stress. You were the ‘sweet uncle’ to Reneesme. She loved your hugs and  your stories about you growing up In New York. 

You were a bit surprised to hear Jacob had imprinted on her but Once it was explained to you and you knew it was something he didn’t have a say in you were fine. The whole time imprinting was explained to you, you could feel eyes on you. You looked up and saw the most beautiful man in the world.

He was built. And you appreciated that he wore tight clothing because you could see every curb and muscle. The second you looked into those deep light brown eyes you felt as if nothing mattered but him. Any thoughts of fighting for your family had been replaced with only fighting for this man. Even though  you just met him you felt a connection to him. It was as if he was the most important person in the world. 

“Oh great! Sam just imprinted on a leech too!!” the only woman who smelled of dog said. You immediately bared your fangs at the woman who dared insult this man. He deserved nothing but love and praise and- It was then you realized he was your mate.

You later found out that the man’s name was Sam Uely, the alpha of the pack. You were pleased to just stare into his eyes for hours on end. You spent whatever time you weren’t training spending time with your mate. You didn’t care about anyone else but Sam for a while.

When Sam heard your Backstory he gained a respect for you that he only gave to the wolves who won a tough fight. Every night before he drifted off to sleep with you in his arms Sam would say “I love you my brave officer.” You felt your heart melt every time he said this. No matter how many times he said it you felt like you did when your mom hugged you after becoming a cop. Loved, accomplished and complete. 

You and Sam fought the voltri as a team. You took care of each other. Though Alec, Jane, Felix, Demtri, Marcus and Caius joined your side Aro still had the advantage. It was only when Aro pinned Sam down and was going to Kill him did you consider using your gift.

You see, when you were human You had the ability to make split second decisions and have it turn out in your favor. When you became a Vampire you found you had the gift to Bend time to your will. You didn’t use it much as it could end up catastrophic. But, seeing your mate, your life, your reason for living under Aro, unable to get the mad king off him, fighting for his life woke something in you. You slammed into Aro, knocking him off of Sam. You used your gift to keep him in place as you sent him flying into tree after tree creating crack after crack in Aro. You somehow made it back to the clearing. You would never forget the look in Aro’s eyes when he realized he was as good as dead. You let each member of your family take a limb. You delivered the final blow, removing Aro’s head.

You and Sam got married a few weeks after the battle. Billy was the one who officiated. Well, he Officiated the wedding for the mortals. Caius officiated the wedding to have your marriage recognized by the Voltri. You let Alice plan both. You used to hate the way your family looked at their mates. But, now you had sam to spend eternity with.

Finished reading Twilight, what can I say, I didn't like the main character very much. Bella is quite contradictory.She is clumsy to the point of absurdity, but she is a great driver. She is strongly fixated on Edward and his beauty.The relationship between Bella and Edward is understandable, it's their first crush.After reading the book as an adult, I realized how annoying Bella and Edward are with their behavior. And realized how good the other characters were. Bella was annoying with her crush. I realize it's first love and all your thoughts are only about the guy you like, but it was too much. Constant thoughts of how beautiful Edward is, like an angel. It also remains a mystery what those around her actually found in her. After all, initially Bella is described as withdrawn, silent, frowning, with the usual unimpressive appearance and not following fashion, and then one - and almost all the guys try to hit on her. And after reading the book, I still don't understand what Bella was able to hook Edward with. Other than the fact that he couldn't read her mind and that he likes her scent, there's nothing special about her. It's scary to imagine what boring and uninteresting people Edward was surrounded by since Bella had him so hooked. In general, if I used to like the love line, now my opinion has changed. The relationships of the characters, in my opinion, looked maximally dramatized, exaggerated. And if Bella's behavior is still understandable because of her age, why does Edward, a hundred-year-old vampire, behave as if he were seventeen too? Bella literally dissolves into Edward, loses her self. This is especially noticeable in the second and third books. Sometimes it felt like she was uncomfortable in this relationship. I was missing some thinking, some reasoning. Bella is perfectly comfortable accepting Edward's vampire nature, not only that, she wants to become a vampire herself. And that wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for one thing: a complete lack of thought. Bella is ready to give up everything, to reshape her human life, to forget about her friends and relatives for the sake of a guy she's known for only a couple months. And yet not a single thought of what she loses. That kind of love is akin to insanity. What I liked was the easy and atmospheric reading of Forks with its forests, the smells of wet leaves, the meadows with colorful flowers, the beautiful views from the Cullen home. A moment that clarifies for us how Alice became a vampire.One of the best aspects of the novel is Edward's strong family ties. I especially like Carlisle and Alice, although Emmett is also a very interesting character! Jasper is quite mysterious, and Rosalie hates Bella for no apparent reason. Concerned for the well-being of the family? It's possible. Then Rosalie is the most appropriate character in this story. Esme is very sweet and caring!

I hadn’t thought about it, not really - I mean, of course I knew Bella was beautiful, I have eyes and I’m not stupid, despite my hair colour. It didn’t quite register, however, considering how Edward had made his claim on her clear from the very beginning.

She was his mate, she had wholeheartedly accepted that claim, and who was I to stick my nose in where it clearly wouldn’t be wanted? 

That is, until I saw them together. There was something off about it - she adored him, that much was clear - but she wasn’t fawning over him the way she should have. I had seen Carlisle and Esme find each other, and I saw how Jasper treated Alice, and it was nothing like the dynamic that was Edward-and-Bella. 

I couldn’t put my finger to it, couldn’t figure out what it was - couldn’t figure out why on earth I was so invested in my moody brother and his besotted human either. I talked to Emmett about it, he was my best friend after all, but he was of absolutely no help - he just stared motionlessly at me for a minute before breaking out in great honking laughter. 

The only logical solution was, of course, to stalk them. Easier said than done, of course, considering one of them is a mind reader, but I did have several decades' worth of experience avoiding Edward’s intrusive gift. The key was to simply think in several layers, where the topmost layer was so annoying he would never go digging deeper. In my case, I just kept the script to Bee Movie running on repeat through my mind. He hated that movie.

The only reason I followed them that day was that it was sunny. We usually all went hunting when the sun was out - as rarely as that happened in Forks, Washington - but that day, Edward had begged off. Carlisle hadn’t questioned him, just accepted it straight off the bat despite how Edward’s eyes were turning darker almost by the hour. 

In and of itself, Edward not going along for a family hunt wasn’t all that unusual, he had that whole lone wolf schtick going for him, but the weird part was that Bella had called in sick at school. She had seemed fine the day before, and it was incredibly unlike her to in any way neglect school, so like any concerned friend would be, I was worried. 

Swinging by Bella’s house revealed that she and Edward had already left - luckily, I’m a decent tracker, and I could have followed Bella’s scent even if I was the worst tracker in vampire history.

Coming upon the Volvo parked at the end of a secluded forest road, Edward and Bella nowhere to be seen, actually made me slightly worried. It was probably just superstition, but it was also the exact kind of scenario like half of all murder mysteries ever began with. 

Trekking through the woods, carefully following their tracks while doing my best to not alert them to my presence, did nothing to lessen the unease in the pit of my stomach. At the same time, I was also arguing with myself - it’s not like I had any business following them, they’re mates and want to be alone, it would be so much easier to just turn around and leave them be.

And yet. 

Something pulled me forward, Bella’s scent filling my nostrils, my entire being demanding I track the two of them through the forest. 

I reached the edge of a large clearing, and there in the middle, I found them. It was a beautiful clearing, and I could fully understand why Edward had led her here - it was beautiful, in a monstrous way, the way his skin glittered in the sun, throwing reflections across the entire clearing. 

I settled down, twenty feet up in a tree where the branches had grown to make a quite comfortable little nook for me to hide in. I could certainly hear them, and if I craned my neck a little I could see them as well. 

Bella was facing in my direction, and there was something about her expression that put me on edge. Despite her vicinity to Edward she looked almost uncomfortable, a glint in her eyes that I wasn’t used to seeing. 

“Don’t you love me?” I heard Edward say, in a tone I hadn’t ever heard him use before - and Bella’s face lost the uncomfortable expression as if it was a slate wiped clean, and the glint in her eyes turned to a cloudy, unfocused gaze, almost as if she was sleepwalking.

“Of course I love you,” she replied dreamily.

Honestly, I’m not entirely certain what happened next, because all of a sudden I was standing before Bella, eyes trained on Edward, the thunderous sound of me hitting him still ringing out through the clearing. It looked almost like I’d tackled him, considering how he’d been thrown back several feet, but I genuinely had no idea how I’d ended up where I was. I knew why, though.

“How dare you, Edward Anthony Masen!” I hissed, venom flying like spittle from my mouth. 

“What the fuck are you doing, Rose!” Edward said, still lying prone on the forest floor where he’d landed. “What are you on about?”

“You’re mesmerizing her!” I yelled, still carefully keeping Bella behind me. She wasn’t doing anything, just standing there. It was like she was in a fugue, and how had I not seen it before? “How dare you mesmerize your mate!”

“Leave it, Rosalie,” he replied, tone suddenly much harsher than it had been. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“The fuck I do! You’re mesmerizing her, does she have any idea what you’ve done to her?” 

“She’s mine, Rosalie, don’t you dare do anything to her.” He crawled his way to his feet, eyes intently trained on her. 

“Me? I won’t do anything to her, it’s all what you have done to her!” Edward started circling us, and there wasn’t much else for me to do but start circling as well. He was much faster than me, I knew that, but I hoped I would be able to protect Bella anyway. “I know what mesmerized humans look like, but I’ve never seen someone mesmerize their mate before - it’s always been the prey that’s been mesmerized.”

That sentence was enough to make him stop in his tracks and straighten up from the crouching stalk he’d been using to circle us. 

“I don’t - I wouldn’t - I love her,” he said beseechingly, sounding and looking most of all like a lost little boy. 

“Not a good way to show it, Edward,” I bit out, cautiously straightening from my crouch. Behind me, Bella stood stock-still, neither moving nor speaking. “Look at her, she’s so lost to the world she’s not even reacting to either of us! Is she even your mate?”

“I don’t - ” he violently shook his head before turning on his heel and running off. I knew there was no chance of me catching him, and for that matter - Bella was still lost to the world. Turning to face her, I could tell she hadn’t registered anything of mine and Edward’s exchange, but then again - she wouldn’t have registered if a clown was dancing the macarena in front of her either. 

I inched closer to her, as slowly as I would close in on a spooked horse, carefully lifting my hands to place them on her shoulders. What I didn’t expect to happen when my hands made contact with the skin bared by the tank top she was wearing, was the zing that went through me. 

Static electricity wasn’t usually something a vampire experienced, but it did happen. Weird though.

“I hope you’ll forgive me for this,” I said to her, all while knowing she couldn’t hear me. The easiest way to snap someone out of hysteria, panic or what have you - the way I’d learnt when I was a human, anyway - was to slap them. It gave them a shock and something to focus on, rather than the spiral of thoughts that had brought them to the state. 

Of course, I’m a vampire and she’s a human, and while I do have a lot of experience regulating my strength in normal interactions, I really don’t want to take the risk of snapping her neck in the process of snapping her out of her fugue. 

That just leaves the other way. The other way, unless you had tranquilizers on hand, was to kiss them.

The first thing I noticed when my lips descended on hers was the sheer warmth she was emitting - I hadn’t felt this warm since before my turning, and it was absolutely beautiful. The second thing was that the static electricity hadn’t abated, and actually, wasn’t that one of the signs of meeting your mate? 

Third of all, Bella was a really good kisser.

I broke the kiss with an unnecessary gasp, breath heaving despite having no need for it, and was gratified to see Bella looking back at me, gaze clearer than I’d ever seen it - in hindsight, someone should have seen what Edward was doing to her. 

“You’re welcome to do that anytime,” she murmured, hands tightly clasped behind my back. At some point, I had apparently buried my hands in her hair, and it was even silkier than I’d thought. “What happened?”

“Edward’s been - well, it’s a way of catching our, that is to say, well… prey, really,” I replied, well aware of how horrible it must sound to a human who had not that long ago learnt about the existence of vampires. “Hypnotizing, in essence, so that our prey will follow us to a more secluded area - and we can hide our nature. It keeps them pliant and unafraid.”

I could see the revulsion in her eyes and tried to take a step back, mindful of hurting her with the tight grip she had on me. In spite of what she was clearly feeling, however, her grip tightened further - she didn’t have a chance of stopping me unless I let her, but I wasn’t of a mind to let go either.

“It’s not you, Rose, that terrifies me,” she said, raising one hand to feather it through my hair. “It’s what he did to me that disgusts me, and that I did nothing to resist him.”

“You couldn’t have,” I said soothingly, trying not to arch into her hand like a pleased cat. “It’s not something any human could resist, even if they wanted to. It’s like a drug, insidious and turning you against your very self if necessary.”

“Well, I should hope so - I’ve never been interested in men, before, and to be entirely frank - that first day in the cafeteria? You were the one who caught my attention.”

If I still could, I would have blushed. I was used to people looking, but the frank admiration shining out of her eyes would be my undoing. 

“I’m hoping I’m not the only one who felt the jolt when you kissed me?” Bella said teasingly, looking like she knew exactly what she was doing to me. 

“I - didn’t want to say anything, I don’t want you to feel pressured - not this soon after what he did to you,” I replied bashfully. Bashful wasn’t a word I’d ever used to describe myself, certainly not a word anyone else had ever used either, but in that moment, it was the only applicable one. “I think it was, well, it is often one of the more obvious signs of meeting your mate, especially when one isn’t a vampire.”

“Yes, I did read some of Carlisle’s literature on the subject - I didn’t think much of how I’d never felt it with Edward, I just assumed it was because I was human.”

“I think he just… mesmerized you into not caring.” 

She hummed thoughtfully, one hand fiddling with my hair. I was fairly certain that if she kept it up I’d melt into a boneless puddle, but I wasn’t complaining. I certainly wasn’t complaining when she kissed me again. 

“What do you say to getting out of here? I hope you know the way back to your car, because I have no idea how we got here in the first place. I would really like to be anywhere else but here, to be honest.” She looked around, a faintly repulsed look on her face. 

“Of course,” I said, not letting go more than absolutely necessary to swing her onto my back, gratified to hear her surprised squeal turn into helpless peals of laughter.

I'm not sure if its possible to get something like pigs blood from a butcher in the US, but i feel like someone like Esme would prefer that over hunting animals.

And maybe Carlisle and Rosalie would work on a blood alternative, kind of like TruBlood, for vampires.

What are your thoughts on that?

My understanding is that it's tricky in the US to find it, but with the Cullens' money they could probably pay off some local butchers to save blood for them. Just imagining Esme being like "oh I make authentic black pudding and sell it online!" as an explanation and they make like a fake online store front for it and then people start trying to actually order it and she's like, oh crap I guess I have to make some now? Like when you read stories about restaurants that were really fronts for mob activity but someone wanders in and the mobsters have to get their mom to cook some pasta for the oblivious customers.

But, really, if SM were more interested in 'vampire slice of life' stuff AND if she had more room in her story for the secondary characters to have desires and motivations outsides of either facilitating or resenting the main romance, of course Carlisle would have been trying to make a blood substitute, and of course Rosalie and Edward, with their various STEM degrees, would be helping him. And OF COURSE they would have researched the myths surrounding vampires having children long before Bella got pregnant. It's absolutely impossible for me to suspend my disbelief to accept that the Cullens and especially Carlisle were just like 'wow we literally never thought or wondered about this until just now' when Bella gets pregnant. Esme and Rosalie LONG for children! SURELY they've researched this before!?!? I could accept that they researched it but found no concrete evidence and thought it was just a myth made up by the Volturi or whatever but just the 'literally no idea . . . even though apparently there are books in our library about it, and our groundskeepers on Isle Esme know about it, and there are websites online about it' does not make sense to me unless the Cullens have just literally been standing around like unplayed Sims waiting for Edward and Bella to need them for something.

I also think the Cullens probably should have been working on some kind of sparkle-suppressing vampire make-up. I've seen people asking why they don't just use make-up to hide the sparkle or look older, but since their skin is so different from human skin, normal make-up probably wouldn't work that well. But again, you've got Alice the fashion maven and bunch of other vampires with backgrounds in biology and they can't put their heads together and come up with some kind of vampire-friendly, sparkle-proof foundation?

Again, I get it: at the end of the day Twilight is a romance, and romances generally and understandably have a narrow focus on the central relationship. But romances don't usually have so MANY side characters, either. Realistically, I would expect the Cullens, with their various medical and scientific studies, abundant free time (no sleep!) and unlimited wealth, would have already solved a lot of living-as-a-vampire problems by the time Bella showed up.

Assuming they can be solved, of course. Maybe vampire venom on the skin really just makes any make-up lasting for more than a half hour impossible. Maybe a blood substitute just doesn't work because there's some magical 'blood is the life' thing going on here. Maybe pig's blood is just too impractical to get from a butcher in the volume they need it. Maybe the act of hunting helps them release tension and they realize they miss it.

But yeah I'd have loved to have seen more of this. There's some stuff in Midnight Sun that hints at the stuff the Cullens get up to, but it's more like, Emmett and Jasper's complicated chess game with multiple boards, or Alice and Rosalie designing clothes on the computer. I don't think SM really thought about 'what would a vampire doctor who wants to be as human as possible be researching in his spare time?' and so we missed out on some of this stuff.

Dec. 5 prompt: What's one thing Esme loves about each member of her family?

Carlisle- the fact that he sees her. She adores his vulnerability, his integrity, his stubborn determination to see the best in people, the way his hair stands on end after a day in a surgical cap, and a million other things. But at the end of the day it's the fact he sees her for who she is and wants her to be who she is. Loves who she is.

Edward- his gentleness. It's a little paternalistic at times, but she mother-smothers him at times, so there's a balance. She's seen him face the darkest part of himself and come out of it a better person. He came back, of his own free will, to be gentle again.

Rosalie- the boldness with which she carries her intelligence. Esme is as brilliant as the next vampire, but she's generally drawn to the arts and lots of traditionally feminine pastimes. She is fiercely proud of her mechanic. Her astrophysics major. Her med student. Her engineer. She admires Rosalie's cleverness in arguments and her tenacity in demanding what she needs. There's a small, timid part of her that lives vicariously through Rosalie in this way.

Emmett- his energy. The house just came alive when he joined the family, and not a day goes by that Esme isn't grateful for it. Every time he crashes his way down the stairs or sings (badly) in the shower or endangers her antiques with his antics, she loves him even more.

Alice- the freshness of her outlook. Even on the best days, there's always an element of staleness to being a Cullen. Alice has the ability to get excited about an event that's coming up even if it's something they've done twelve times before. She can always find some new angle for her enthusiasm and/or find a new way to spruce up something that would otherwise be tedious.

Jasper- his determination. Esme sees how hard their way of life is for him: his difficult withdrawal from human blood in the early years, the temptation of being around humans for hours at school, the crowding of noise and emotion in their home. The physical pain and agitation of his thirst as he pushes himself to go longer between hunts. The uphill climb every time he has an accident or spends too much time away from humans. His struggle is made even more difficult by the fact that his motivation (in the moment) isn't stellar. But he keeps on keeping on, and it's not just about giving Alice the life she wants anymore. He's found something—for himself—that he's determined to keep.

Bella- her quiet contentment. Esme finds Bella very restful to be around because of her easy, comfortable presence. So often the Cullen kiddos (and teenage vampires in general) have one of three moods: broody, super energized, or agitated, and there's often no middle ground. Bella is a nice exception to the rule. Esme often finds Bella just wrapped up in a blanket by the fire, reading a beloved novel for hours on end without a care in the world.

Renesmee- her openness to new ideas and easy acceptance of others. She moves easily among vampires and werewolves and humans, gold eyes and red eyes, rich humanoid vampires and wary nomads, etc. This flexibility is partially due to her unusual childhood, but she also lacks the tendency toward stagnation that plagues full vampires—it's easier for her to change and learn and accept new things.

and another thing. i am tired of the whole hale twins / cullen siblings narrative. give me a story where yes, edward, alice and rosalie are the children of carlisle and esme and they bring home increasingly weird romantic partners. alice is their adopted daughter and she brings home this guy who used to drive around with a confederate flag on his car. rosalie brings home a science partner who carries around a bag of eggs. edward brings home the clumsiest girl in fucking existence who also drives an ugly ass truck. like just hear me out.

alice got adopted right before they moved to forks. she is now the younger sibling of edward and rosalie. the three of them r the new ones in school. emmett and jasper are both jocks but not on the same team, they both set out to try to recruit edward to be on their respective sports team. bella is not a jock but she is like. a teacher's assistant, she gets tasked with showing rosalie and alice around. rosalie can't stand her but alice likes her. emmett and jasper Know each other and they also both know bella in different ways; emmett likes bella she tutored him, bella on the other hand got injured in one of jasper's games before so they all loosely know each other. edward doesn't want to join either sports' team so he has to pick a different extracurricular while avoiding these 2 guys who won't leave him alone. meanwhile rosalie DOES want to join a sports team and she takes emmett's attention off of edward but this means jasper can bother him full time. 

edward avoids him so much he doesn't pay attention to where he's going and he full on knocks bella down in a crowd of people and alice and rosalie ream him for it bc ofc they do. however bella uses this to force edward to join jasper's team because she's a spiteful little creature. alice in sibling solidarity is like :) and we'll be at EVERY game! and bella's like. this is not what i wanted this is not what i planned and i just gotta say i do not understand. meanwhile rosalie is officially on emmett's team but she gets annoyed with a lot of the other guys and challenges him for captain and he's like ok what did i do but he accepts the challenge. edward and bella are both miserable but alice and jasper are having fun with their thing and they start making fun of them Together behind their backs. edward straight up tells bella its her fault she has 2 be there and bella is like ok well is it my fault you suck so bad? no. fuck off AND ESSENTIALLY... rose and emmett rivals to lovers bella and edward mutual irritations to lovers jasper and alice mutual shit starters to lovers

edward will occasionally call esme 'mom'. mostly in light hearted, teasing moments. it was a term of endearment he had never used with elizabeth masen, with her he had gone from calling her 'momma' as a small child, to 'mother'. 'mom' belongs to esme. he knows the effect it has on her, and in a way it's his way of saying 'i love you' without those specific words.

carlisle is very much just carlisle the vast majority of the time. but in the early decades, when in public he would refer to carlisle as 'father', knowing how pleased it made carlisle to hear it. he has less qualms about giving carlisle the title -- even with his dim human memories, he knows he didn't have the closest relationship with his human father. from about the 80s onwards, he becomes more comfortable jokingly referring to carlisle as 'dad'.

in terms of his siblings, rosalie is often 'rose'. he only felt comfortable calling her that after their heart to heart during emmett's change. if he'd tried before then, he's pretty sure he'd have had his head ripped off. emmett get's 'em', almost from day one. it's too easy to fall into being comfortable with him. jasper becomes 'jazz' before too long -- mostly following emmett's lead. alice does not get a nickname, she's just alice to him.

bella is always bella, or love, or sweetheart. he'd like to use more, but he knows it would just embarrass her, so he refrains.

he mostly refers to renesmee as 'ness'. he recognises the sentiment behind his daughter's name but that doesn't mean he doesn't also recognise that his wife may not have been in the best frame of mind. everyone had slipped so easily into following jacob's habit of calling her nessie, that edward had too. the look he god from bella would make him stop short, and he just sort of adopted the nickname of a nickname.

in terms of names he'll accept: 'kid' from emmett and emmett alone, 'ed' as long as it's not too often. esme can use as many terms of endearment as she likes, even if he does get embarrassed. 'son' from carlisle. his human father was the only one to ever call him 'junior' but he doesn't remember it. they were never really together enough to anyone else to need to differentiate that much.
