Winterfest Ball, Redwood Manor Brindleton Bay 1842.

Lord Barrow and Lord Redwood took each other by the hand and walked towards the center of the ballroom, all the dancing couples were surprised and stopped dancing to make some space for the host of the evening, Edgar and George were disconcerted by their father's attitude.

All the guests looked at Jacques and Mordecai. Being the host of the evening it was impossible to ignore, in addition to the fact that they were two men waltzing.

Percival and Thaddeus were surprised to see another male couple dancing like them, as if it was a silent validation from Jacques. Rose watched everything from the piano, afraid of people's reaction and uncertain of how whatever was happening at that moment would end.

After several twists and turns, Mordecai tried to converse with his dance partner, who seemed unaware of the consequences of his actions.

Mordecai: Jacs, what are we doing? I don't want you to be foolish with what we're generating in the atmosphere. Everyone is watching us

Jacques: Mord, I have been a watcher for over 30 years. Even though it's late for us, I don't want to miss the opportunity to be the interpreter of my own life.

So I think it goes without saying Thomas Cresswell and audrey rose is on this list.

(I'm grouping people to make it easier)

Jude St. Francis from a little life. He is such a complexing character and I am always thinking of that book and his quotes especially. Often people argue that he doesn't 'get better, even the author, but to me its more complex than that. There are times when he is in a better place, where he is happy. And time when he is understandably not. His relationships and his views on them are perhaps the most intriguing for me.

Also honorable mention for a little life is Harold. I think its because I know someone in real life who reminds me so much of Harold by his unwavering kindness. (And of course wilhem is amazing too)

Another set im going to group is feyre and aelin because they are again complex. The throne of glass series was one of the first main series I read so aelin will always be special. And feyre was one of the first characters who I saw myself in. She is quite but fierce, often seen as week but when she needs to be is powerful and determined

Next is jude duarate and Julitte cai. Unhinged powerful women. Enough said. But also they are more than that. They are fiercely loyal and loving and that cuases them to distance themselves and become powerful.

Mare barrow is also a character i forget about but still love. The red queen series is another one that got me into reading and mare is just another character I love.

Libby Rhodes from the atlas six. The most annoying thing I found in that book was how the other characters, nico included, treated libbys anxiety. It felt that every single page had at least one of them pointing it out and saying it was annoying and they'd wish she'd stop. They wished she would tone it down or fix that aspect of herself otherwise she'd never reach her potential. Its was such bullshit to read. Almost made me stop reading because her anxiety is valid and natural and I just hated how she was treated.

Addie larue is also another character I related to and loved. Henry as well. Unpopular opinion maybe but I didn't like luc or the romance between Addie and luc. Forever will ship Henry and addie.

I don't really watch TV or films and can't really think of any at the moment but I hope you enjoyed this

Susan McClare + Daniel Aldridge, who hate each other with a burning passion but have this common goal of preventing their children from marrying each other.

Thomas Barrow + the Crawleys at the Sinderbys/Aldridges, don't remember exactly what happened but he got a guy sacked or something.

Thomas Barrow + Downton's Staff in the first movie, when they all think ''hmm... we've got to do a jerk move and be sneaky'' and they all think ''let's ask Thomas!''

Isobel + Violet, whenever they stop bickering to put their forces towards a common goal.

Redwood Manor, Bedlington, Brindleton Bay 1842.

New Year's celebrations arrived in Bedlington, Redwood Manor was filled with ostentatious decorations and mistletoe everywhere as a way to say goodbye to the year and celebrate a warm evening in this cold winter.

The Redwoods were dressed in their traditional red, proud to see the family reunited once again as in the old days.

This year they also invited Edgar, Clara and their families to join the dinner. The younger members of the family came to celebrate as well, John was happy to be able to play with his cousins, he loved entertaining little Greenland and Lucile along with Suzette.

Madeleine and Wendla joined each other at the diningroom, it was a coincidence of life that both were pregnant almost at the same time, so they could talk about how they were coping with the pregnancy, both couples were very anxious about the arrival of future heirs.

This is cursed but my friend (who got me into Downton) just told me about those pictures from like 2020 of Dominic West and Lily James. Google it if you don‘t know about the ‚scandal‘.

And it had me thinking about a sort of AU where Rose and Atticus go to visit Thomas & Guy. Guy is bisexual (maybe Thomas is too but that’s not that important for this AU) and they all have some fun times 😏

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)

I want to open this review with a disclaimer. I think that this film is absolutely necessary for the representation it gives to people of color. I will not discuss race further than that because I am white, so I don’t have anything to add to that larger conversation here.

The framing of this story is a popular trope of Grandmother (Phylicia Rashad) is telling a story to her grandchildren. I don’t think the framing is necessary here, so I’m not sure why it’s included. But this is also a film that is not intrinsically about Christmas, it just takes place during Christmas. So, maybe that was to make it more Christmas-like?

I do understand why the story starts where it does- with everybody considerably younger. Jeronicus Jangle (Justin Cornwell) and his wife Joanne (Sharon Rose) run a toy shop or boutique or something. What the shop sells is not clear, but they are all his inventions. His apprentice Gustafson (Miles Barrow) and his daughter Jessica (Diaana Babnicova) are also there, both trying to invent things with him. Jeronicus finally invents his “greatest creation,” a sentient matador doll named Don Juan Diego (Ricky Martin). Don Juan doesn’t want to be mass produced though, so he convinces Gustafson to steal him and all the plans, and they start their own toy company. I think it’s toys anyway. Jeronicus is devastated and loses his spark of invention, and when Joanne tragically dies, he sinks into a deep depression, pushing Jessica away.

An indeterminate number of years later, Jessica (Anika Noni Rose) has a 10 year old daughter named Journey (Madalen Mills) who is obsessed with the idea of her grandfather and tricks Jessica into sending Journey to meet him by herself. Sending children long distances to see family you haven’t seen for years is another trope I find very strange. Like it’s convenient for the plot, but how often do people really do this? Journey finds Jeronicus (Forest Whitaker) grouchy and running his pawn shop. A local boy Edison (Kieron Dyer) helps him around the shop, and my personal favorite, Ms. Johnston (Lisa Divina Phillip), the mail lady, shamelessly hits on him as much as possible. Jeronicus is convinced that he has lost the magic of invention, but Journey is determined to help him find it again.

Meanwhile, Don Juan is bullying Gustafson (Keegan-Michael Key) because he has run out of things to produce from the plans they stole years ago. Gustafson tries to use his own invention, but it doesn’t work. Don Juan tells him that Jeronicus has to have something hidden, so Gustafson sneaks around to find something good. Introducing Buddy 3000 (Tobias Poppe)! An interactive robot that only works if you believe he is will! Gustafson steals it, but his buyers don’t believe in him, so the robot won’t work. Journey and Edison steal it back, but Gustafson won’t go down without a fight.

This is a musical, and I was very impressed with the score and the dance numbers in this film. They were the best part of the whole movie (except that the lip syncing in the first song broke my suspension of disbelief for a bit). I also really loved the costuming and hair for this story- the bright colors and unique styles really added to the complexity of the story. Overall, I give it 3.5 stars.

Sitting at the table, you looked at the book in front of you as you ignored the dinner in front of you, completely unaware of everything else going on around you.

“Put down your book and finish eating before it’s too late.” Mrs Patmore said.

Thomas glanced up from his own plate, and he watched as everybody looked at you.

Your book was taken from you and you looked around confused, brows furrowed and Daisy pointed to your plate.

You looked at Thomas.

Why did she take my book?

He gestured to your plate and you nodded, picking up your knife and fork.

“Give me the book Daisy.”

“Of course.”

She beamed brightly as she brought it over and he snatched it back from her, just like she had done to you.

You hadn’t done anything to deserve the way they treated you, and now they were teaching Daisy and any other new servant that joins to do the same thing to you.

Thomas didn’t agree with it, just because you were different to them.

He was different to them.

You ate your dinner, watching as your plate was taken away from you and he watched as everybody else left.

Walking over, he sat next to you, handing you your hook back and you grinned brightly at him in thanks as you opened it again.

After a few minutes you felt a tap on your arm, and you turned around to face him.

Put the book down for a moment.

You nodded your head, turning your attention fully to him.

Do you understand why they do what they are doing to you?

Because I’m different. I know.

He sighed, nodding his head.

It’s okay, I’m used to it. Everybody always treats me different.

He leant back in his chair, lighting a cigarette.

Does it bother you?

You shook your head, smiling softly at him.

No. I have you. That’s enough friends for me.

We are not friends.

We are the best of friends.

Thomas rolled his eyes as you, and turned around so he couldn’t see you signing anymore and you smacked his shoulder.

He carried on ignoring you and you walked around him only for him to turn around once more.

Reaching to the table you too his tin and shook it so he knew that you had it.

He spun around and you put it up your sleeve was he wasn’t able to grab it back from you.

Don’t turn your back on me that’s not nice.

He held out his hand, waiting for you to return the tin to him.

No you don’t deserve to smoke. Smoking is bad anyway.

He picked up your book, tucking it into his liveries.

Come in!

He rose a brow in question, and you rolled your eyes, repeating the words a little slower this time.

Sometimes you forgot that Thomas was still just learning how to sign, he knew a bit when you arrived, and over time he picked up more from you.

Give me the tin and I will give you the book.

You huffed, crossing your arms.

Really? You are going to ignore me?

You turned to the side so you could still see him out the corner of your eyes, but you didn’t have to look at what he was saying.

Thomas scoffed a little, shaking his head as he picked up his news paper.

You weren’t exactly quiet when you moved, so when you tried creeping up on him he knew straight away.

You tried to grab the paper and he held it to the side, when you went that way to get it he stood up and held it up in the air so you couldn’t reach it despite how much you jumped for it.

Thomas smirked a little, looking at you as you huffed again and stopped, looking at him.

He held out his hand and you reached into your sleeve, holding out the tin and he set the paper down, taking it.

He took out a cigarette and walked away while you followed him.

When he was outside you hit his arm.

He smirked a little, pretending that he couldn’t see you.

You sat down next to him, knocking your shoulder into his a few times until he did the same thing, making you rub your shoulder where you collided with him.

Thomas tapped the back of your hand and you looked at him.

“You’re so childish.” He said slowly.

You are mean.

He reached into his pocket, handing you your book back.

“I know.”

You grinned brightly and took it.

Thomas rolled his eyes as he watched you run back inside to go carry on reading.

You weren’t a bad person, and he knew that, but in a way he was glad the others couldn’t use sign language like he could.

He could talk to you about things nobody else needed to hear about, and you always kept them to yourself.

You knew about him, who he was and why he was different and you were just happy to have a friend, you couldn’t care less that everybody else would find him revolting.

He knew what it was like to be persecuted for being different, and maybe that’s why he was so protective over you without realising it.

You were young, and it wasn’t your fault you were deaf, it just happened, and you needed somebody to watch over you and that’s what he would do
