Something about roses symbolizing unsatisfied women/women realizing they don't need their respective unfulfilling male partners. Something about the "blonde mother" motif not necessarily being that these mothers are "bad" bc they forsake/leave their neglectful/abusive husbands (go queens), but that the choices they make when they realize they don't want to be forced into that life hurt their children and continue the cycle.

Joyce is a single mother, who is clearly not a blonde mother, like obviously. She's a brunette. It's intentional. It wasn't wrong that Joyce divorced that POS Lonnie, not at all. She doesn't need him. It's that Joyce continues to support and love her sons even when it got so hard for her and she doesnt have many choices being a single mother in a conservative town. When Lonnie came back and tried to make her let go of Will, she pushed him out and never gave up on getting Will back no matter what.

You have Karen who is naturally a brunette but dyes her hair blonde. We see that she almost cheats but decides not to, putting her kids wellbeing first and foremost over her happiness ultimately.

Or blonde mothers like Billy's mother who just leaves. I can't judge her of course- it's intentionally complicated. These sorts of things happen to families and the only one who holds all the blame is Neil- the abuser. But as you see Billy, without he presence of his mother, goes onto become like his father.

Or the shittier mothers like Mrs Cunningham and Virginia. Enforcing high standards on their children and abusing them. Both these women are portrayed as highly powered (Mrs Cunningham clearly is the person who runs the house and Virginia is the one who goes out to Brenner without consulting Victor) and are independent of their distant husbands. These women enforce the conformity on their kids that was forced onto them, never actually learning their lesson or trying to make a better life for their kids.

And as we see El after leaving NINA has her rose shirt. She's now becoming fully aware she doesn't need Mike and she's so much more dissatisfied with him after the confession. I mean she's literally pinned up against the rose door during it, can they even get more obvious?
