#fave spotting #michael craze #ben jackson #doctor who #gideon's way #1966 #boy with gun #itc #a relatively rare fave spotting! outside of his DW work‚ Mike didn't make a huge amount of appearances in cult tv‚ at least not many that #survive or are easily seen; he'd previously starred in Target Luna‚ a completely lost serial‚ but didn't return when the show carried on as #Pathfinders in Space (oddly‚ perhaps because of a change of director‚ every single returning character was recast) and beyond #there were also episodes of Dixon pf Dock Green and Armchair Theatre but these are also in all likelihood lost tv; others‚ like an ep of #Hammer's sci fi anthology Journey to the Unknown‚ are frustratingly unavailable to the average viewer (I was really hoping Network would #do something with JttU after they announced an agreement with Hammer but alas it wasn't to be) #mike would have been about 22 when filming this ep (around May '65) but was still largely playing juvenile parts as here #(his age isn't given but as a borstal runaway he's clearly intended to be a teen); this aired in feb or march '66 in most regions‚ by which #time he had presumably been cast in DW (or very near to it; he'd debut in The War Machines in June of that year) #DW would act as a sort of transition for Craze from youth parts into adult roles (i mean Ben's own age is debatable but I'd say he's surely #meant to be at least 18?). there'd be some more guest spots and a few horror films to come (he was a regular collaborator with Norman #J. Warren) but he doesn't pop up with the regularity of many other Who companions so this was a lovely little surprise (zero memory of him #being in it from when i first watched years ago)

Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue - Whatta Man 1993

"What a Man" is a song written by Dave Crawford, and originally recorded by Linda Lyndell, whose recording reached number 50 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1968. The song was essentially improvised by Lyndell, record producer Dave Crawford, and the Stax studio musicians in Memphis, Tennessee.

In 1993, American hip hop trio Salt-N-Pepa recorded the song retitled "Whatta Man" for Runaway Love, an EP by En Vogue, who is credited as the featured group. Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor wrote the rap lyrics and produced the version, with Cheryl James (Salt) also credited as one of the songwriters. Salt-N-Pepa sampled Lyndell's original recording and remade the song as a rap song.

"Whatta Man" was a major hit for Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 7 on the UK Singles Chart and number 6 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Single.

The music video won three MTV Video Music Awards: Best Dance Video, Best R&B Video, and Best Choreography in 1994.

"Whatta Man" received a total of 76,4% yes votes!

Something about the way Percy tries to convince Annabeth about how she should be the one to go on with the quest and not be the one to sit in the chair really hits me in the feels (ep5).

I mean, the fact alone that Percy is ready to lay down his life for someone he barely even knows is just so......tearjerking to say the least, but this is not what this post is about.

Its always portrayed pretty well in the books that Annabeth tries really really hard to live up to people's expectations of her. We see this especially clearly in the Battle of the Labyrinth, where Percy finds her sleep deprived, overwhelmed and drowning in her books and manuscripts.

Annabeth Chase is someone who is extremely self-aware of her abilities. What she might not be aware about is her self-worth.

We see this as she tries to be on her toes at every single waking moment. After all, it's her that people look up to for information, it's her who needs to cater to her mother's pride, it's her who has to be on their guard so that they don't get killed.

And in ep 5, we see that runaway morsel of insecurity when she's not ready to believe she's best for the job. We see that morsel which tries to convince her that she's not enough for the boys. Percy's already said that the reason she's here is not because of her smarts, but because she's too rigid to be his friend(something that he's regretted since but she doesn't know that). Her mother abandoned her the very first time Annabeth messed up. Her father and his family doesn't want anything to do with her. There must be a reason for that right?

I loved the way Percy's the only one who understands this, or at least, is beginning to understand it. I loved the way he tries to drill into her head that it's HER he chose, not because of the whole "you'll be betrayed by a friend thing", but because she's so incredible, and witty, and so fucking courageous. She's here because if it's anyone who's saving Olympus, it's her.

The entire team of writers did a fantastic job of elaborating on the character, but it definitely wouldn't have been possible without Rick Riordan at the center of it all.

And of course, Leah Sava Jeffries is a fabulous actor and she's really sold the fact that I can't imagine Annabeth without her anymore.

I listened to the final ep of @anotherkindofmindpod's Fine Tuning, yesterday. I'm so sad it's ended. I loved every.single.second. I don't think I've posted about it at all, but it's only because everyone was already saying it better, and my posts end up in drafts half finished and confused and full of runaway sentences of little import.

I'm really grateful for the whole thing. Grateful the way I was when I watched Understanding Lennon McCartney the first time, like being given a genuine gift of fandom making sense of itself. I don't know. It's just lovely to have. And it's done so well.

When, in the first ep, they casually mentioned that there were going to be ELEVEN episodes I knew it was going to be amazing. Proper genuine "we have a lot to say and we're going to say it all so you don't think we didn't think it through" you know? I love that they didn't start making eleven episodes and then decide that was too many and cut 40% of it out, it's more like they wanted to make twenty episodes and then cut out about 40% of that. Making eleven episodes and then being like 'we didn't even have time to talk about anything that we LIKED about this book' is a real move. A perfect shiny move.

The fact they made a spreadsheet sends me into fits. I love it.

Cards on the table I have not read Tune In properly, I have skimmed and picked at it, and obviously I've seen loads of it quoted on tumblr, but EVERY quote you read from it (and everything he says in interviews) makes it so fucking OBVIOUS that he doesn't understand basic things, I've never been able to face it full on. And the frustration that people (men) can't see how bad it is. So having it put out there like this, bit by bit, oh the joy of it.

And then it's also so much worse than I knew, because I'd never really worked out that he was just MAKING UP QUOTES and mushing them together to say new things, and oh my god the stuff that's NOT in there, is insane. The bit in episode 3 where AKOM quickly list off about five or six really interesting things about Paul's art in his schooldays and then you find out that Tune In didn't even MENTION that he liked to paintklsjdofihoijsodijfohwoisjdf OH MY GOD.

I'm blown away by the work of it, and the scale of it, and how well put together it was. I love the *feel* of it. I love its tone when they let the sarcasm ride high. The voices of "sincere surprise" are just my favourite thing. "Oh, so he mentions that Paul did x and y right?" "Actually, weirdly he doesn't!" "Oh, HOW STRANGE. But does he say he was interested in z???" "Oddly no." I love the sense of giddy anticipation in the intro ep, it must have been killing them to have made so much of it and not be able to talk about it.

I'm so fully aware that all of what they're saying will move into other podcasts, and become things that men sort of talk about as if obviously everyone kind of sees the bias in Tune In, even though they've always talked about it as if it's a great work of truth until now. It kills me softly. And they'll claim it's only POSSIBLE to see that now, ten years later when it's spelled out to them, as if it's aged badly or something, when actually female fandom has been fucked off with Tune In for fucking years. But that's FINE. WHATEVER.

Also glorious have been all the posts people posted around it, and how the conversation grew, and especially the fact that @mythserene had clearly been doing a lot of the same work. Her posts in tandem with the show are so wonderful, and make it even more special, the depth of fandom for the love of fandom <3333333

Omg i love this ep so much.  It was the absolute perfect way to introduce the new doctor to the show; Matt had some big shoes to fill after David but he did so perfectly in this episode.  All of the other doctors I had to get used to, and I especially thought I’d have to following my fav ten, but i immediately fell in love with 11 with this episode. I also feel like this was a great plot overall and I loved both Amy and Rory in it. (@lavenderlace16 )

There. I said it. I want to see angst, struggling, emotional turmoil, crying, maybe a few holes punched in the wall, again, screaming, arguing. Everything.

They have been freed from the conservative prison that is the you know what network. Why not go big or go home?

Okay. If you think that bothers me, good for you. (It doesn't. IRL, I am the most drama-free, non-confrontational person ever, but I like my entertainment to be a runaway rollercoaster. Don't keep it mentally stable and happy. So boring.)

I've been pretty open about wanting Buddie endgame. But we don't have to take the romantic, sweet, easy route. We can go offroad, turn on the 4x4, and hit the bumps full speed.

So, if Minear and crew (or Oliver and Ryan *waves*) see this, let me throw some messy ideas your way. You want mayhem and chaos? Let's look for some!

Everything below can be supported by canon up to ep 7x5.

1- Have Eddie question why his romantic interactions with women are always forced, initiated or encouraged by someone else, and unfulfilling. Shannon pursued him. Ana was there and familiar. Marisol was there and familiar. Eddie never pursues women due to good old basic attraction. He falls into relationships with those who send him signals they like him and are kind of shameless and thirsty.

We have NEVER seen Eddie actually genuinely excited to go on a date or spend time with a woman. There was always some ulterior reason. He was trying to give Christopher the stable home he thought his son deserved, or Bobby gave some cryptic advice, or Buck said Natalia is the only person who sees him. Ahem.

But Eddie was was all smiles to go hang out with Tommy. The man was bouncing. Bouncing! And every time he has hung out with Buck, he's relaxed and happy. Ijs.

2- I want to remind you that you created the character of Tommy Kinard, so his canonical history is not fandom's ideas. *points to show writers* They did it!

Tommy is canonically a racist, misogynist dbag. (See Hen Begins.) Sure, you can say he did it to fit in, but that also makes him a hypocrite now. He was always the first to follow in the former captain's footsteps when harassing Hen. Tommy wasn't a kid. He knew what he was doing was totally wrong and chose to be racist, misogynist, and possibly homophobic. I mean, I see that you have Hen and Chim forgiving him, which is fodder for a whole different post on retconning, backtracking, the forgiveness from minorities trope etc, but I digress.

I have always lived by the rule that when people show me who they are, I believe them. If you wanted to refer back to past Tommy Kinard, you could make him a total dbag.

It was obvious in 7x3 Tommy was not into Buck. At all. He didn't acknowledge Buck at all until Buck grabbed him. He barely spared Buck a glance when Buck grabbed his arm, pushing Buck's hand away, then looking back toward the direction Eddie exit the scene. That man was blinded by Eddie, who, see number 1, didn't give him the time of day. You could build on that and bring massive amounts of drama and pain.

3- If you really want to blow minds, have fandom go into a collective meltdown, be edgy, and create a storyline that would open the doors to all the main characters being involved, new bonds being cemented between characters who rarely interact, and serious emotional wreckage... just hear me out..

Give us an infidelity arc.

There are multiple options for this one. Some are pretty straightforward and relatively tame, such as Eddie and Buck realizing they are completely in love with each other and kissing, and some are just this side of being banished to Skinimax and HBHo, such as uncovering hidden facts that are scandalous, lying, and intentionally misleading others for your own purposes.

Those ideas could lead to enough material for seasons 8, 9, AND 10 if done properly. 😂 Certain watchdog groups and politicians will condemn you, but smart people don't like them anyway.

Honestly the train thing is perfectly good infantilized kid logic(we see she's been infantilized a lot in other eps)

She fully intends to stop the train. So no one is in danger. Since no one is in danger she is doing nothing wrong and mommy will love her. That's it. There's not planning. There's no 'the guy will snap out of it and tell on me when its done' because the future doesn't exist only the now.

It at least says something that she doesn't give up. She keeps trying, doesn't try to save her own skin or get annoyed.

Honestly while she has been infantalized before in her behavior I don't see this one as /that/ infantalized.

Like. Chloé is 13-14 here. And it's just that there's no thought for long-term consequences(like the trauma a perceived near-derailment could cause, or the injury that could still happen) or grander scale on why she shouldn't do that (even if things will work out fine, it doesn't mean you get a free pass to do something fucked).

So yeah I could totally see a kid her age faking some kind of disaster so she can swoop in to save the day. It's just at the level of 'cause a runaway train that she can stop' instead of something smaller like 'wreck the gym before the big dance so she can offer her hotel's ballroom' because 1.) this is a fictional cartoon and 2.) we have Magic Heroes and Villains so this sort of thing isn't as out of the ordinary.

LBD used the skeleton key to open the gates of the Diyu, so the world is slowly getting overrun by runaway spirits, as well as channeling the waters from it to freeze the land

apparently Macaque wants to consume every living thing he's trapped to fuel something, and nobody is sure what

anyway it's crisis politics time, nobody is having fun, everything sucks

time to check in with the past pilgrims for advice and some tricks they know, Monkie gang power up time

the dragon king of the north and his family are missing, time to find them

MK exchanges himself for the girl LBD got possessed, which builds the group time to wrap up lose ends

final battle time, hoards of the underworld versus whatever immortals got convinced to help despite going against the Jade Emperor's decree

MK sends a clone with his staff before he loses control back to the gang

Mei in dragon form fighting possessed MK, so that Red Son and Nezha can take a shot at MK to exorcise LBD out of him, Erlang and Muzha helping to hold Macaque back

MK gets shot with the Samadhi Fire, to explosive results

MK vs Macaque kaiju monkey battle time

Macaque gets nuked, LBD gets carbonized, Mayor dies saving people from the city before the fires get to them

everything is put back where it belongs, but there's a lot of loose ends to wrap up, ends in a bittersweet note

ACT 4, IMMORTAL: two years, S4 solely in name, basically a full overhaul lmao

oh man oh man shits gonna hit the fan lmao

the city is saved and the bad guys are gone; time for Consequences

Jade Emperor isnt very happy with the amount of unauthorized actions taken just now

MK goes to fucking trial for the crime of saving the world, it goes as well as one would think

luckily Guanyin comes in clutch and gets his sentence lightened to "community service"

there is an absurd amount of undead still walking around, which means MK has to get on that

also yknow. the devastating amount of damage in the mortal AND celestial realm

MK is given an assignment in the heavenly bureocracy, to help keep him in check and accountable to stuff. is great innit.

another part of his job is, dealing with Wukong's past sworn brotherhood cus they've been uppity since Macaque's attack and threatening to break the human-demon truce

Qi "two dads nuclear family" Xiaotian learns to deal with distant extended family relations with very specific social cues. again, goes as well as expected

under all that, Red Son still hasn't been able to get the missing memories situation fixed

also turns out even Wukong doesn't remember who MK was but he used to know. he doesn't anymore. and he doesn't know what happened. Red Son did not like learning that.

the celebration of Ulhambana in the Celestial Realm is approaching, and Red Son thinks he can get himself and MK invited to it so they can yknow, ask Buddha wtf is going on

so yknow, time to earn the trust of the Celestial Realm again, in a year. that's doable right? ahahah

and because he doesn't have enough on his plate, MK traded off a lot of his merits in exchange for LBD and Mayor speedrunning their time in hell so they can be reborn under his care

MK becomes An Uncle, what could possibly go wrong!

Ep 11: Escape from Pain

Day 11 of @trigun98watchparty.

This ep doesn't hang together as well as others do, but it does demonstrate the seedier, rougher realities of NML (dangerous terrain, human trafficking, slavery, extortion) and that even the best of intentions can have negative consequences for the innocent.

It is also a preview of the larger conflict to come between Wolfwood's pragmatism and Vash's idealism, with Milly standing in for Vash. (there is a very strong argument to be made that Milly stands in for Vash in many other ways where WW is concerned.)

--If you don't love Milly after this ep, idk what to tell you. Her intuition borders on being a sixth sense. She's all Vash's sweetness and love without the lifetime of pain and suffering, and with good sibling relationships.

--"Oh my, I'm about to go down in fuh-lames!"

--Life tips from WW: if you need to apologize to someone for being a dick, buying that person a gigantic bag of snacks is a good way to start.

--WW's "hoo-wee!" is priceless. Do not mess with Milly.

--it's okay, WW, you can admit you're sunk

--Throughout the series, if Vash is wearing his sunglasses and you can't see his eyes, he's in Stampede tough-guy-mode. Which is the biggest act he puts on, except... is it?

--"If people need helping, if I can, I have to help them. k?" damn, Milly, drop that mic

--the question is... is Milly helping? Or is she making things worse? She's going to get herself hurt in the process. Sounds like someone else we know.

--Meryl pulls a gun on Vash. He takes a risk that she's bluffing. She's crushed (he really is despicable, despite what she has seen?) she lashes out, she wants to kill him before he can kill the runaways... but somehow, she figures out he's bluffing too. And then, we see his eyes.

--And it's WW with a steel chair! er... Cross Punisher.

--Vash will use his terrible reputation to great effect when it serves a higher purpose. He'll be the fall guy. He's done it before. He'll do it again. He's got the scars to prove it.

--"I have altered the deal. Pray I do not alter it further."

--Even Mr. Ultimate Pragmatist Hard Man Wolfwood, who held his own gun to his head to prove a point to the runaways, is disappointed that Vash isn't who WW thought he was.

--Milly sure packs a wallop. She probably got Vash the ice pack, though.

--Exit WW, stage left. Time to report in. Guess he fixed his bike.

Did not realize until just now that WW doesn't see Vash again until after the Fifth Moon incident, and how long have I been in this fandom? One hundred demerits.

I think the moment Alicent finally released she loved Rhaenyra in a romantic way was in ep 1.4, but the sad thing is there wasn’t a turning back for way they become at this time, they weren't the same anymore.

She has a different life now - a motherhood and a crown she never really wanted but she has to behold and she also sees Rhaenyra as someone she could no longer trust, what they had and what they could never had was something in the past and nothing could change that. But the love was there, and I think that made her angry.

I always see people talking about "how jealously she was" but NO! She was heartbroken!!!!!!

Alicent was heartbroken because Rhaenyra didn’t trust her anymore, and she could never trust Rhaenyra again. Alicent was angry because she lied to her and she started to release that in some way Rhaenyra could find ways to runaway from the duties she could never run from, and I personally think that this don't really made her jealous but made her heartbroken because maybe everything she wanted was her by her side, supporting her and helping her to find ways to runaway from that too, but she could never have that, maybe she couldn’t even release that.

I think this ep was the first time she released she could never really have love for her.
