No one Needs To Be Afraid Of Me - Maria x Giles - Drabble Rating - T Summary: After Maria's transformation the Council gets wind of her and a Council Member and three special ops guys show up to potentially take her. Things do not go as they planned. Author Note: Maria is the OC created/part of my Giles x OC Fic And The Wind Began To Howl
"The fact is Rupert she is an uncontrollable monster, a demon."
Giles' mouth set into a hard line. A member of the Council had shown up at the shop, unannounced, with three Special Operations Team Members in tow.
Maria was currently out the back, busying herself and probably making tea. In the ten minutes they'd been in the shop Giles had established they had no real idea what they were talking about. They probably didn't even know about the existence of Maria's branch of werewolf, then again they shouldn't know.
Harvey was never supposed to have the skin that turned Maria, he was never supposed to have been able to alter it. It should never have left the tribe he had stolen it from.
All this and they'd never met Maria, though Giles was often in awe of the strength in her. The kindness and power she showed in times of need, she was completely in control of all that power.
"Oh," Maria entered the shop front, books loaded in her arms and a smile on her face that quickly disappeared when she noticed the hard set of Giles' face and the other men. "I think I might have interrupted something." She said, dropping the books on the table and taking a step back.
"The uncontrollable monster you were talking about." Giles gestured to Maria and she glanced at him.
"Oh, me!" She pointed to herself and let out a laugh. "You're talking about me."
"Look, Rupert. I don't know what sort of hold this demon has over you-" The Council member stepped forward and a frown creased Maria's face.
"Apparently there have been whispers of a werewolf in Sunnydale, and apparently those whispers extend to the idea that said werewolf has, certain watchers and slayers under some sort of spell." Giles said, his mouth pulled tight as he spoke. "and the Council, and their friends, have come to investigate."
"Spells? I uhm-" Maria looked back at Giles for a moment. "Oh gentlemen I hate to disappoint you but I can't do magic."
The suited gentlemen and the three others wouldn't make eye contact with Maria, instead their faces were trained on Giles.
Even if they did know all the facts, that Maria was not a demon, that she hadn't chosen the wolf. If they decided to try and take her she would be going nowhere. If anyone thought they were taking the woman he loved from him, again, they were sorely mistaken. He would never make the mistake he'd made with Jenny again.
"Rupert, she may have once been something to you, but what I can only imagine as a foolish endeavour to become more than just ordinary, have turned her into a demon. She is dangerous, uncontrollable, and she needs to be put down before she hurts someone, someone human."
Giles made to move and Maria put a hand on his arm stopping him.
"Excuse me?" She asked stepping forward. "I didn't want this. I didn't ask for this and I certainly didn't seek this out. I was more than happy being ordinary."
"Rupert."
"Men." Maria shook her head at the Council members. Her breathing picking up in her chest. She took a step forwards. "This was forced on me. I was kidnapped and tied down. A man I believed to be my friend made me-" Her hands started to elongate, fur covering them. "-into this, hoping that it would force me to join his pack."
Maria cracked her neck as her trousers and shirt began to split under the bulk of her transformation. Giles could tell she was intentionally slowing it down, proving a point about her ability to be fully in control. His mouth picked up at the corner in a half smile.
"I didn't ask for this, but it's here."
And there she stood.
8ft of fur covered muscle and sinew. A coat of deep black and flecks of grey. Her claws and hands shined slightly in the light of the shop. She was impressive.
The four men looked scared as she stepped towards them. Giles imagined her hot breath rolling towards them as they got to see the full breadth of her dangerous jaws.
And after a pause, a silence filled with fear from the Council members and admiration from Giles. Maria was back to her human form, her clothes now tattered and torn.
"No one needs to be afraid of me," Maria said softly returning to Giles' side where he wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders and planted a kiss to her head. The hair tickling his nose.
"Apart from," Maria started confidently. "Those who wish the ones I love harm." A wider smile spread across Giles' face, pride blossoming in his chest. Given how soft and gentle she was most of the time, the power and strength in her still sometimes took him by surprise.
"I believe we may have been misinformed." The Council member swallowed without even so much as a glance to the operatives behind him.
"As you can said, you've been misinformed. Maria is not a wolf as we know them. But I will say that she has never been anything close to ordinary." Giles said, and Maria's face turned up to look at him a blush dusting her cheeks.
"Now I don't want to rush you but we have things to be getting on with and I'm sure Maria would like to change into something a little more.... whole."

As a child, you'd often read story after story which featured young witches practicing magic to different degrees and for different purposes. At first you'd believed that magic was just something written about in books not something that could exist in the real world and certainly not something that you could learn to do yourself. It wasn't until you were older sifting through books on witches in the public library that you'd stumbled upon a page of a spell book someone had slipped in between the pages.
It was a simple spell, one in which anyone could master but would take a few tries at first in order to be successful. A spell which would allow any desired plant to bloom, simple and effective. After a few attempts the flower began to bloom before your eyes and there was a sense of accomplishment that filled you, making you want more magic, more spells to conquer.
Soon enough you were scouring the libraries for spell books, in Sunnydale or nearby towns, wherever there might be a whisper of magic or covens. Never had you thought that there would be more than witches in the world but as you read, as you researched, an entire world filled with the supernatural, opened up before you. Demons, vampires, any creature that once had been considered mythical was brought forth into existence for you. Spells and incantations were used only when necessary, there were certain ones that you'd only read up on but dared not practice. Spells that you couldn't ever imagine helping anyone or anything although you knew that in some way, shape, or form, there would be a person out in the world finding its horrific use.
You read on and on, studied magic as well as regular school work. Graduated high school, college, and returned to Sunnydale. Giles knew the makings of a witch when he saw one, it wasn't hard to see, wasn't hard to notice. Especially now of course, especially with Willow beginning her own practicing of witchcraft. For you, when you were younger and just starting out, magic seemed like science. This was the only comparison you could make and perhaps the only reason that you ended up teaching science in the first place.
While you couldn't confirm what relationship Giles had to the supernatural or the paranormal or whatever anyone wanted to refer to it as, you knew he was watching you. He was a librarian, what interest could he have had in entering your classroom during your classes, what interest could he have in a biology lesson. Certainly the knowledge of the structure of a motor neuron was not of any personal interest to him. He watched you and you dared not confront him, dared not let him know that you were aware of his suspicions.
He watched you, watched and waited for any sort of sign that what he suspected was true. But there was no doubt that he was watching you, and Giles knew that he had stumbled, knew there was some lack of obliviousness, knew that you were on to him. Entranced may have been the word he would use for how you made him feel, entrancing is what you were to him.
Watching him, knowing that he was there, you wanted to use magic. You wanted to whisper a spell, even the simplest of one just to show that he wasn't wrong, that he wasn't mistaking anything he had found out or witnessed regarding you. You wanted to slip up except there was no amount of caution that would break, there was no way you were going to expose the secret which needed to stay as such.
Sunnydale often has other ideas. Giles was afraid he'd misjudged even though Willow had also seen the same signs. She was a powerful witch in her own rite but even then there was no telling what spells would be needed in order to capture the demon that had been found roaming free. Buffy could fight, that much was true, but this was something that she couldn't do all on her own this time, there was too great a risk.
Part of you know what he was going to ask before the words were out of his mouth and the other part of you wished that you'd be wrong. There wasn't an exact idea of what he was going to ask you to face when you thought about this moment. Now that it was here, even when Giles promised to keep you as well as everyone involved safe, you still felt a building fear within you. It was terrifying to think that the one thing you've spent years practicing could mean life or death for someone else.
You had to agree though. Without agreeing more people would suffer, more people might die. If there was a way that you could stop it, if there was a way that you could help put an end to the destruction, and in some way teach a young witch, then you would do so. Giles seemed pleased that you had agreed and yet sorrowful that the two of you would be connecting on such a matter.
As soon as the incantation began you felt a fight within you, an overwhelming rage, a binding to the demon that you were meant to defeat. Voices existed beyond you, vague words in the tone of Giles, Buffy, and Willow being the only voice that seemed to echo the same words you spoke. You could see the demon, see Buffy facing it, weapons going to kill. The words spoken faster, louder, a ripping through you in a way that you had never felt before. Searing pain that you were aware of needing to fight through, aware that without the fight you could be lost and so could others.
Time passed in odd ways when you called out the incantation. Had it been hours or days you couldn't tell. All you felt was exhaustion verging into pain as you were connected to the demon, to the ground you chose to sit on, and to the people nearest in the room watching over you. Eyes closed you found that you could see the last moves that had to be made, the last cut of flesh that Buffy took. You watched as the demon collapsed to the ground.
Giles watched as you let out a deep breath, as your eyes shot open. You stood on weak legs, attempting to stand, attempting to get as far away from what had occurred as you could possibly go. Sleep was all that you wanted in that moment, the exhaustion too overwhelming. Giles watched and caught you as you collapsed, whispering softly, quietly so as not to wake you, that he would care for you.
He wondered if you may forgive him when you awoke.

am begging fandom at large to adopt my niche but ultimately extremely correct take that giles would have been immediately tech literate had jenny lived. HE WAS HOLDING A PROGRAMMING BOOK WHEN HE TRIED TO ASK HER OUT. man was doing his HOMEWORK. he loves her so much & his reticence re: computers would have eroded just the same way he stayed at that monster truck rally. it would have been full of passive aggressive comments in places but he would still be taking notes on every single thing she has to say.

AN: This fic is a continuation of this one. I just want to say a big thank you to @rmoonstoner and @queenofthehobos for your interest in the previous part and I hope you enjoy this one just as much.
Warnings: canon typical violence, mentions of violence, and jealous Ares.
You rested your forehead against Rupert's as you struggled to catch your breath in the stacks of the library at Sunnydale High.
"Did my kiss leave you breathless?" Rupert teased.
"Hush," you ordered before dragging his lips back to yours.
"GILES!"
Rupert regretfully broke the kiss, "What could they possibly want now?"
"They're kids in a library on a hellmouth. My guess? Academic support."
Rupert frowned at you, clearly not amused by your joke, before straightening his clothing and walking out to greet the teens. You walked out a few minutes later.
"Hey (Name)," Xander said as he sat at the table. "Any luck with breaking the bond that connects you and Ares?"
You shook your head, "Everything we've read so far states that since Ares created it, he's the only one who can destroy it and it doesn't exactly end well for the person on the other end."
"Why can't these gods keep to themselves?" He groaned.
"Well, I've been doing some research on the situation on my own," Wesley announced. "With the resources that the Council has graciously permitted me to use."
"Does he ever shut up?" Buffy groused.
You however had a completely different reaction, "You told the Council?"
"Well, yes. I am obliged to keep them updated with all the goings-on in Sunnydale." Wesley adjusted his glasses.
"If you were on a battlefield and you had been impaled in the shoulder, would you contact the Council and update them in the middle of the battle?"
"Don't be absurd," Wesley scoffed. "I would be placing the people that I'm fight...oh." He trailed off sheepishly.
"Glad we understand each other," you snapped. "Call me if you need me to patrol tonight Buffy."
You met Rupert's eyes before you walked out of the library. They were soft and apologetic but did little to cool your anger.
That night, your dreams were anything but restful. You dreamt of wars fuelled by passion and in each of your dreams, you could feel Ares' growing presence. In your last dream for the night, the god appeared in front of you and captured your mouth in a dominating kiss that left you woozy. It took far too long for you to realise that Ares had pressed his hand to the small of your back to keep you in place as he kissed you.
"The mortal's kiss might have taken your breath away once but my kisses are the ones that you'll be craving until the end of time."

Google is trash and I don't remember the name but I read a fic ages ago on livejournal or dreamwidth or even a personal website where giles becomes a vampire after being turned by either spike or drusilla
Things I remember
-he still helps fight Glory
-he still cares for dawn
-drusilla dies and it upsets Spike and Giles
-debate over whether to give him his soul back
Does anyone know this fic, or fics like this? Please help me!!

mini fic for btvs 1x04 Teacher's Pet
---
There are times when Rupert seriously, genuinely, very much questions every single life choice that led him to Sunnydale.
Not because the town is just about teeming with all sorts of demons in addition to the vampires. Not even because it is, for some reason, built on top of a hellmouth, which just seems like an irresponsible choice all around, but what can one expect. No, it’s simply that no one thought to tell him in advance that the calling as a Watcher would involve so much worrying about humans and the things they got up to.
Witches—he can deal with witches, even those whose motivations are a mystery to him. Cheerleading. Really. After all, there he may have gotten up to some thing or other in his youth that, to an outside observer, may seem just as mysteriously-motivated. Stupid, even, perhaps. Maybe even to Rupert himself, if he were to judge his past self now. Which he will not, because it bears no relevance, and he is much too busy trying to keep up with more young people than he ever expected to be responsible for.
It astounds him, on occasion, how quickly he conceded the possibility of the Slayer going to school and making friends. Then he looks at her, and it astounds him that he could ever have considered trying to keep her from it.
At the moment, the main thing that astounds him is the readiness—and enthusiasm—of one Willow Rosenberg for the committing of illegal acts. He knows her as a shy, unassuming girl trying to keep out of trouble. Apparently, trouble with the law is not as much on Willow’s radar of concerns as trouble with her peers, for she cheerfully and skilfully uses the computer to conjure coroner’s reports and teachers’ records alike. He does admire her, if he’s honest with himself. He hardly understands how to use this technology for the simplest tasks; if he were to attempt any such thing as she is doing with such casual ease, it would be embarrassing for everyone involved.
Rupert looks at her proud smile, full of innocent joy as she presents the results of her criminal activities, and vaguely hopes she will never think to look into what might be recorded of his own past.

The whole reason why Buffy and Giles know each other in the first place is because she’s going to die and he’s going to lead her to her death, but they make their relationship into so much more than that and. I actually feel incredibly fine and normal about that.

sooooo fascinating to me that of all forms of fiction, plays are the ones that are the most subject to reintepretation/transformative adaptation. like by their nature they are ephemeral because the original productions (esp. in cases of shakespere and euripedes😭lol) were not recorded and like even if they were those recordings are never going to be as widespread (or compelling!) as the original script & what a fresh pair of eyes can glean from it . AND the actors perform it differently every time depending on revisions behind the scenes or even something small like how theyre feeling on the day. a different delivery of one line could change the way you feel about the story entirely!!!!!!

❄❄ Advent Calendiles❄❄
Calling all Calendiles Appreciators!
For this year’s festive period, I’ll be posting a new Calendiles drabble a day from 1st December up to Christmas Eve.
So, please feel free to send me asks with short prompts! For each one, I’ll write a 100-word drabble and post it here and on AO3.
Prompts can pretty much whatever you like – a word, a simple scenario, an object, something else entirely. You can go festive or non-festive!
When you send your ask, please let me know if you want it to be SFW, otherwise I’ll spice things up as the muse dictates.
Asks open from now till all 24 dates are full or 14th November*, whichever comes first!
Ready, set, get prompting!
(* Because I sometimes write at the speed of a comatose sloth (plus the potential for life events to derail things), hoping to get a few written as a cushion before 1st December.)

Stupid Idea:
#31 Giles themed~
My document: "Giles recognizes the abuse that xander faces at home and gives his parents a talking to "
Think that explains the fic idea enough but ill expand my own rambles further under the cut
I just think a fic where Giles happens upon a scene where Xanders dad is being verbally abusive to Xander and he just... Inserts himself and places himself in front of Xander and plays nice concerned school librarian until Xanders dad says the wrong thing and gets to have a sneak peek of Ripper and his strength and power of woopass. Very subtle/unsaid threat to Xander dad who tucks tail leaves a stunned Xander who is all like !?!? And Giles is like alright hurry up we're late and doesn't acknowledge it because he's Giles.

It's Valentine's Day and Giles has been bit by an unidentified demon. The venom's having unusual side effects.
“Valentine’s Day - oh lord, I’ve mucked everything up haven’t I? I had plans, exquisite, carefully detailed plans to spoil you. I was going to cook - not have you, ah, shag the sense back into me.” “Rupert, can I tell you a secret?” Jenny kisses the spot directly beside his ear, feels him melt to putty in her hands. In too weak a state to keep sparring with her, the strength of his self-flagellation no match for lust magic. He’s beyond adorable for thinking it would be. “I was planning to seduce you anyway.”
everyone come into this little corner with me - where calendiles had a silly demon issue on valentine's day, and nothing tragic happened at all (includes, scoobies being mortified, damsel in distress giles, and love/lust magic because that's my thing lately i guess). happy valentine's!

“I am a grown-up,” says Willow again, challenging, but he hears the question underneath. She wants the affirmation.
lately i have been wanting to step outside my comfort zone and try some more experimental and adventurous fic! (obvs jenny is somehow still very present in this one. baby steps.)
was thinking today about how much i'd love to see the weirdness of giles/willow explored, then went: wait. i can be that explorer. this is a first try, so we'll have to see how the rest goes!

Warnings: canon typical violence, Buffy spoilers, magic and obsession.
Strolling into the library at Sunnydale High School, you were greeted with a very odd sight. Jenny Calendar and Amy Madison standing opposite each other proclaiming that they loved Xander more than the other did.
“What is going on?”
Giles pulled off his glasses and rubbed his forehead, “Xander convinced Amy to do a love spell in order to break Cordelia’s heart because she broke his. The spell went awry and now every woman in Sunnydale is obsessed with him except Cordelia.”
“I’m not.”
“You’re not?” Giles and Xander asked in unison. Giles put his glasses back on and stared at you.
You shook your head, “Nope.”
“You have no idea how relieved I am to hear you say that.”
“What are you feeling now?” Giles questioned.
You were about to answer when Amy spoke “Goddess Hecate, hear my will! Remove this challenger from my sight!”
“Not good!” Xander cried, jumping out of the way.
Red lights swirled around her but instead of attacking you, it turned on her.
“Foolish girl,” Jenny clicked her tongue and crossed her arms over her chest. “If there’s a goddess of witchcraft then there are gods that govern other areas that belong to the same pantheon. You asked Hecate to protect you from a challenger.”
“Another word for challenger is fighter.” Giles breathed, “The reason the obsession spell didn’t affect you is because a god has already claimed you as theirs. I would classify this as a battle field and since Amy’s spell backfired on her, pushing her forcefully into the air, I know which god has claimed you.”
So did you, “It’s Ares.” You stated.
Giles nodded once, “Let’s return everything to normal, including Buffy and then we’ll find a way to break Ares’ hold on you.”
“What happened to Buffy?”
“Amy turned her into a rat and she’s loose in the school.” Xander explained, climbing up from the floor.
“Oh.”
“Just another lovely day in Sunnydale.” Giles complained.
