Let's Review: Thor Love and Thunder

*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SALTY LANGUAGE AND SPOILERS FOR THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER*

It has been said, many times by many people, that comic books and comic book movies are our new modern mythology and superheroes are the new gods and goddesses of that mythology. Well, it's very easy to make that case when the heroes of your comic book movie are literally figures from Norse and Greek mythology, such as Thor and Zeus. These gods were indeed the first superheroes, so things come full circle here, an ouroboros of inspiration that sees these classical deities donning capes and, occasionally, saving the day.

But if the opening of this movie teaches us anything, it's that the gods are still as petty and powerful as ever.

We start off Thor: Love and Thunder with, of all people, our main villain Gorr, played with equal parts brooding gloom and sadistic glee by DC defector Christian Bale, as he loses his daughter and begs for help from his god. But his pleas fall on deaf ears, leading Gorr to take up the god-killing Necrosword and become Gorr the God Butcher.

While Gorr is not exactly a top-tier Marvel villain (that title still belongs to Thanos and Killmonger), Gorr is definitely a higher tier Marvel villain that comes close, thanks in large part to this opening. It reminds us that the best villains are those that think that they're doing the right thing; they have a persuasive worldview informed by relatable pains caused by shortcomings of the world around them. They do what they do in order to take back some control and change their circumstances. And although avenging the unjust death of a loved one is not exactly new when it comes to villain or antihero motivations, we can relate to that feeling of being let down by a supposed higher power who not only refuses to help you, but flat-out tells you that your existence is pointless, that there is nothing meaningful beyond this life, and you were a fool for believing that there was in the first place. And yeah, the gods can be pricks sometimes and they do deserve to be punished and wouldn't it be nice to knock them down a peg or two? It's a very appealing notion, one that Gorr is more than happy to take advantage of.

Especially when you look at someone like Thor.

Now don't get me wrong, Thor has changed and grown a lot over the course of his movies and throughout the MCU, but even now he can still be a bit oblivious. Most of the time that's what makes him so lovable but sometimes it can ring hollow when you put him next to characters who are dealing with actual problems, as we will see with his ex-girlfriend Dr. Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman (who FINALLY gets to have some fun in a Thor movie), and *MAJOR SPOILER COMING UP* her struggles with stage 4 cancer.

Thor's biggest personal obstacle in this movie is his own masculine insecurity, which is fitting for a guy whose sense of self-worth is measured by the size of his biceps (rumor has it that Chris Hemsworth achieved his biggest physique yet for this movie). That struggle takes many forms, ranging from getting back into shape after the events of Avengers: Endgame (because Gods forbid we have a fat Thor, am I right?) to dealing with the return of Jane, who has taken up the mantle of Mighty Thor and has assumed ownership of the reconstructed Mjölnir.

Although it's exciting to see Jane really step up and become a proper hero in her own right, her journey puts a spotlight on Marvel's ever-present problems that they still have with their female characters.

First off, Jane only gets to be powerful because she is a cruel victim of fate, getting this aggressive form of cancer out of nowhere just so she can become Mighty Thor by borrowing the tools and persona of her male counterpart in order to regain her vitality. This basically makes Jane a Smurfette figure despite her obvious strengths and her insistence on being called Mighty Thor, not Lady Thor. But her power and superhero status is achieved by essentially being a direct extension of her ex-boyfriend. Thor gets to be Thor, but Jane has to contend with being Lady Thor. Granted, this is handled fairly well in the movie and none of the characters really express any problems with this. After all, Valkyrie gets to be King of New Asgard and it's a non-issue. Between this, Florence + the Machine's song "King", and the upcoming Viola Davis flick The Woman King, it's nice to see that our mainstream media is actively trying to make the title of King a gender neutral term.

Speaking of Valkyrie, she and Jane are the real heroes here. They're the ones making battle plans and staying on task and holding their own alongside Thor.

I would even argue that Jane has better chemistry with Val than she ever did with Thor, who's too busy whining that his ex-weapon Mjölnir doesn't like him anymore while trying to appease Stormbreaker (which I have to admit is pretty hilarious).

Bottom line: Jane and Val display major BDE, or in this case BHE (Big Hammer Energy) in this movie, and for that they deserve our respect.

However they both still get viciously sidelined, albeit briefly in Jane's case, right before the climax despite proving themselves to be extremely capable warriors several times over. This turn sends the implicit message that, while women can be powerful, it's best that they're not too powerful, lest they overshadow the men.

Just look at what happened to Black Widow (fridged), Scarlet Witch (villainized), and Captain Marvel, who although not victimized in the same way as other female Avengers still earned endless vitriol for essentially being more powerful than the boys. So when it comes to female heroes in the MCU, they can either be all-powerful and lose their humanity (again, see Scarlet Witch) or have some power (but again, not too much power) before ultimately getting sidelined, sacrificed, damseled, disempowered, or killed off.

But with all that said, Jane does get her best character development in this movie and, like I said earlier, she actually gets to have some FUN here. We get to see her actively owning and enjoying her newfound power while adorably trying out different superhero catchphrases. She gets to be strong and weak in equal measure without diminishing her power, thus avoiding the trap of the tired Strong Female Character trope. She gets to be goofy, gets to figure herself out, gets to share that enthusiasm with her comrades, and gets to have an awesome bromance with Valkyrie, cementing a strong female friendship with a fellow female superhero.

She also gets to have a great story arch worthy of any hero. *MAJOR SPOILERS COMING UP* We learn that, although Mjölnir grants Jane better health, strength, and stamina, her body becomes unable to fight off the cancer whenever she's not using the hammer, and it gets worse every time she uses it. During the climax, we see her make the ultimate sacrifice by taking up Mjölnir one last time to deal the final blow against Gorr before succumbing to the cancer and dying in Thor's arms. This death feels like a cog in the Marvel machine, which sees characters come and go based on the availability of their actors. But it was nice to see that in the post-credits scene Jane is greeted by Heimdall and welcomed with open arms into the halls of Valhalla, earning the reward of a true hero. *MAJOR SPOILERS END HERE*

This movie is such a mixed bag of steps forward and steps backward when it comes to feminist representation. The female characters are both central and peripheral here, but overall it's definitely moving in the right direction and I, for one, would like to acknowledge that fact. This movie offers an abundance of hope for the next generation and it's exciting to think of all the girls and women (and others) who'll start cosplaying as Mighty Thor in droves for cons and for Halloween, having been given unspoken permission by this movie to do so.

On another note, I am happy to report that Thor: Love and Thunder has the best queer representation of any Marvel movie yet. To quote Mighty Thor, this movie really brings the rainbow. *SPOILERS COMING UP* We get verbal confirmation that Valkyrie had a girlfriend (albeit one who was unnamed and killed off and doesn't appear onscreen), thus fulfilling the studio's promise to make the character openly bisexual (while still putting out a cut of the film that can be easily censored to appease homophobic countries); plus we see her chivalrously kiss the hand of one of Zeus' handmaidens while making bedroom eyes, so that's something I guess. We learn that Korg has two dads and gets a boyfriend by the end of the movie. We get to meet Heimdall's son Axl, who tells us that he used to be called Astrid, and although it's never confirmed canonically that Axl is trans, he's definitely coded as such. Either way, I was shocked to see Thor deadnaming this kid as a joke, which, I can't believe I have to stress this, is NOT OKAY. Despite this, Axl gets to play an important part in the story, taking up a leadership role amongst the children who are kidnapped by Gorr and getting to fight alongside Thor with them in the final battle. *SPOILERS END HERE*

Marvel movies are at a critical tipping point right now, and if they hope to stay prevalent and relevant, they're going to have to start shaking things up. The Marvel formula is starting to get stale and it'll need to get thrown out and replaced with something fresher very soon, or else we'll going to start consuming something else.

This has never been more obvious than it is in Thor: Love and Thunder. The vibe for Love and Thunder, just like it was in Ragnarok, is bright and outrageous, like those spray-paintings on the sides of vans showing unicorns and sorcerers. But that painting is starting to fade around the edges. That classic brand of Marvel humor is starting to get old (i.e. those goddamn yelling goats) and has been reduced to poking fun at Disney themed parks, as we see in New Asgard (but, to be fair, it's also poking fun at New Zealand aka Middle Earth, which tracks because director Taika Waititi is from New Zealand, so he gets it). It was hilarious to see those Asgardian actors at it again, and now it makes me want to see a spin-off starring them, just so I can see what they do in their downtime outside of work.

At the end of the day, you can still rest assured that this movie will have plenty of love and thunder in equal abundance. It's still a good time, you'll still laugh at the jokes, you'll still enjoy hanging out with some of your favorite characters (we even get to see 2 out of 3 Marvel Chrises when Starlord and the Guardians of the Galaxy briefly show up in the beginning), you'll still enjoy the action scenes, the colors and visuals are still amazing (especially when our heroes get to the Shadow Realm in a sequence that's visually on par with the slo-mo flashback of the Valkyrior battle against Hela in Ragnarok), and you'll still bob your head to the soundtrack, which slaps pretty hard although the one big strike against it is the overwhelming lack of AC/DC's "Thunderstuck"; I mean COME ON people, it's fitting for both the God of Thunder AND all the Aussies in the cast. The last thing I'll say about that is if (i.e. when) they make another Thor movie, it would be really cool if it could find its way onto the soundtrack.

Either way, it's nice to see that Thor can still bring the thunder.

I wanted to throw a party for my boyfriend of 7 years. Tom and I have known each other since ‘The Impossible’ movie. I was an extra, but Tom and I bumped into each other on set, and we hit it off. We found out that day that we lived in the same city, 30 minutes away to be exact.

I scrolled through Instagram, and I saw old interviews with Tom. I decided that I was gonna make Tom’s party about the things we love about him. For example, we love his quirkiness, his love for dance, and his love for his fans.

For the quirkiness, I decided to go back to his 'quackson' interview, and his 'I'm Batman' interview. I told the whole family to dress up as their favorite superhero from DC or Marvel. And for the cake, I had Sam make a cake in the shape of a croissant, that says 'Happy 25th Birthday' in the middle.

For dance, I rented out a club with a huge dance floor. There is also a giant tv that we were gonna use to showcase our favorite Tom moments. I wanted to go all out. Nikki was to find the best photos. Dom was the funny man, so I made sure that he would be the one up there saying a few words about his son, in the video.

Harry and I both blocked Tom on our social media so he wouldn't find out. Harry and I went online to ask fans to send us videos of nice comments, favorite moments, or even just to say happy birthday. Let's just say, our phones were blowing up after our post.

I asked Harry to work with his mom to make the slideshow. It would include the pictures, Dominic's words, and the fan's birthday messages.

Paddy also helped by watching Tessa, and when the time was right, Paddy would hide Tessa at the club. He would call 2 hours before the party, so we could all help find Tessa, as Tom's friends got the party-ready.

Now it is Party day, and I was to distract the party boy. Tom and I had just woken up. Tom looks over at me, with my back to his chest. "Good morning, darling," Tom said with a smile, and a raspy voice.

I turned around, and I give him a soft kiss. "Good morning, birthday boy," I say going back into the kiss, but more passionate.

I trace my fingers across his chest, as I lay on top of him. "You know, it is your birthday. How about I give you one of your presents now," I give him a mischievous look.

Tom lays on top of my sweaty body. I watch his muscles glisten in sweat. "Wanna... go... again," I say between breaths, with a blissful smile on my face.

Tom's face looks up at me with a serious face. "What? Was 3 rounds not enough," he jokes?

I give Tom a sad look. Having an actor for a boyfriend really helps when you want to play a character. "Okay, it is 11 AM. How about we go to brunch. Your favorite place, and since it is your birthday, you don't have to order my food," I say getting off the bed.

Tom pulls me close to him while we stand in front of the long mirror, hanging on the closet door. "Ok, but will you wear the outfit I love," Tom begs.

I nod and walk into the walk-in closet. I pull out a short sleeve black crop top with a tan plaid lace-up mini skirt that hugs my body. I put on the outfit, before calling in Tom. "Wow, happy birthday to me," he says, grabbing my waist.

"Maybe we can do that 4th round," he continues, putting emphasis on the can.

"Too late. I am dressed, and I don't want to ruin this outfit," I pat Tom's shoulder, before walking out of the closet.

Tom watches me leave and mumbles, "But, it's my birthday," with a pout.

Tom gets ready, and he walks out in a tight polo shirt and black jeans. I so wanted to tear those clothes off of him and take him, but I remembered that we were gonna change at the party.

We are at the brunch place and were sat on the patio. I am currently texting everyone to make sure everything is in order. I put the phone away when our waiter brought our food. I had scrambled eggs, ham, hashbrowns, and a croissant. I love it when Tom says croissant, but Tom hates it, and that is why he didn't order today. Tom had the same thing but with pancakes.

Tom sat his orange juice down, after taking a seat. "Babe, today is a beautiful day, and your waisting it on your phone. Who were you texting?" he asks.

I look up from my food,';., with a scared look, "I wasn't texting. I was looking for dinner reservations."

Technically I didn't lie. I do have reservations at the club, and there will be catered dinner. Tom seemed alright with my answer and continued to eat.

Right on time, Tom got a message from Paddy, 2 hours before the party. Tom put his phone in his pocket and quickly dropped his jacket.

I turned on my inner actress, "Hey babe, what's wrong?"

"Paddy accidentally let Tessa loose, and he can't find her. I'm gonna go help him," Tom says worriedly.

"Well, I'm coming with you. Come on. Let's go," I grab my jacket and head towards the door.

Tom, Paddy, and Harry all went out to look for Tessa. I opted to stay, just in case Tessa came back. What Tom doesn't know is that he isn't gonna find anything. Tessa is at the club, in her spiderman costume.

I didn't stay at Nikki and Dom's house. I went to the club to see the progress.

I walked in, and the building looked awesome. A gigantic dance floor laid in the center of the club. The open bar was sat across from the door. Dining tables were all scattered on the sides of the dance floor. Long tables, behind the dining tables, held the food, presents, and cake for Tom's party.

I saw the boys all talking in a corner. "Great job, you guys! This place looks awesome. Sam, the cake looks wonderful," I congratulate the boys.

They all thank me and go back to their conversation. I text the boys to bring Tom here. As I wait, I see Nikki and Dom setting up the slideshow. I head over and help them.

"Hey guys, why didn't the guys help you," I ask?

"Well, they've already done so much," Dom said.

"You planned an amazing party," Nikki said.

"Well, I have to go change. Tom should be here in 15 minutes," I tell the married couple.

I go and change into my Scarlet Witch outfit. One of the Marvel costume designers made a more comfortable replica of Wanda's Scarlet witch outfit from WandaVision.

Right as I walked out of the restroom, I saw Tom walk out of the men's restroom in his Spiderman outfit.

"This is the most comfortable Spiderman I've ever worn," Tom told me.

"And the sexiest," I bit my lip.

When the party starts, Tom takes my hand and we walk to the dance floor. "Did you see Tessa?" I ask while dancing.

"Yeah, what's her alias, Peter Barker?"

"No, Petra Barker," We laugh at the jokes.

Everyone had finished eating, and now it is time for cake. I gave the signal to the twins. Harry left his seat to get the slideshow ready, and Sam put the candles on the cake.

Tom sat in his seat next to his mother and I, as he waited for everyone to sing him 'happy birthday'. He didn't expect the giant screen to cut on. His fans, friends, and family all said their messages. Then mine came up.

"Happy Birthday, baby. Ever since that day we ran into each other, I have loved you to the moon and back. When we were fifteen, I looked at the sad boy, whose crush broke his heart. Seeing you sad made me sad. But, those feelings I felt made me realize that no one was made to love each other like us. Now we've been together for 7 years. I know it's not traditional, but can we make this celebration about you times two, by you marrying me."

The screen cuts off, and everyone looks at me and Tom. "So, will you?" I ask, with tears.

"Yes!" he yells out.

Everyone cheers, and Tom and I kiss passionately. We all head to the bar for drinks. The night ended with more partying, drinks, and celebration sex.

Love is found in the simple things. Even when you're dating a celebrity. Tom was Tom to you, not Spider-Man or Peter Parker or Nathan Drake or Arvin Russel. Tom was not Tom Holland, only Tom for you. You expected nothing from him, nothing more than what he wanted to give you. And a simple “hello” slowly turned, over the days, into "I'm going to take Tessa for a walk today. Would you like to come with me?".

So it's just as simple as you joined the Brit in the park. Tessa was a very social and affectionate dog, you had no trouble approaching her, with delicacy and restraint, to greet her. And after she sniffed your hand and showed her agreement, you tickled between her ears with a frank and happy smile. Tom scratched the back of his neck with a small smile, looking so good in his simple, slightly baggy jeans and oversized t-shirt, layered over a gray long-sleeved undershirt. Tom, simply, as you appreciate it.

He complimented your outfit and your cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

"There's this little trailer near Tess' favorite spot. Can I...can I get you a coffee there?" Tom asked you, shyly and you thought that was absolutely adorable

You bit your lower lip, still smiling, your eyes sparkling with vitality and joy to share such a normal moment with Tom. You realized he was waiting for an answer and just shook your head positively. The glint of joy in Tom's eyes was then reflected in a blissful smile.

"You'll see, they also make delicious Belgian waffles. I always get one and an extra whipped cream on the side for Tess. I know it's not good for her, but I like to make her happy. She has the right to eat some little sweets too..."

You let out a melodious and sincere laugh at the playful tirade of the boy who made your heart beat, then looked at him with a tender look.

"I would love to try these Belgian waffles, Tom" you confessed with a huge smile.

It didn't take you more than ten minutes to get to the trailer in question. It was all wooden, it wasn't a cold iron food truck like you used to see. No, it looked really warm, friendly and the window display made your mouth water. Tom ordered and offered you the snack, you thanked him even though you wished to return the favor.

The waffle was delicious, you had taken the whipped cream supplement with a caramel topping and a few chocolate chips. The moment was simple, happy and you couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Tom.

"You have chocolate everywhere" you said with amusement

"Where?" he asked trying to erase the wrong side of his face

"Wait, right here"

You took a self-service towel and wiped the actor's face like a small child, wrinkled your nose with an amusing grimace before laughing again.

"There, here we are "

"Thank you"

He looked his chocolate eyes into yours and you smiled, more shyly this time. Tom really appreciated that you liked him for him and this first date with you seemed so natural to him, as if he could already tell you everything. That's why he started, without fear

"I really want to kiss you, but I don't want to overstep the bounds."

Your eyes shone with blazing emotion, genuinely appreciating this man's gallantry. You shook your head positively, not sure the words would come out of your mouth. Tom then leaned over you and placed his lips against yours. First it was a simple kiss, an almost chaste touch before your lips moved into each other more tenderly. Like the English gentleman he was, Tom pulled out before the kiss grew hot.

It was at this precise moment that Tessa pulled on the leash in an attempt to chase some ducks. Tom's arm fluttered in surprise, dipping his waffle and whipped cream onto your nose. After the shock of the action, and a small reprimand for his dog, the Brit laughed and joked.

"Oh no, Y/N!, you have whipped cream everywhere" he laughed at you.

"Oh, is it true? I hadn't noticed! Do you want to give me a hug, Tom?"

You stretched your arms out to him, laughing out loud, followed by Tom. Yes, that first date was perfect...And the love was in the simple things.

Introduced as a one-off love interest for Peter Parker following his breakup with Mary Jane Watson, Tess Beck soon evolved into a fan favorite, with her backstory and investigative skills bringing in a unique demographic of comic books readers whenever she made an appearance.

The daughter of Quentin Beck and the mutant Beautiful Dreamer, Tess Beck is the best friend of Mary Jane Watson and long-time girlfriend and eventual wife of Harry Osborn. Briefly joining the rogues gallery under the alias Stasis, her popularity surged and the character has made several appearances in Spider-Man Adaptations.

Beck has been portrayed three separate times, although each with different names and varying origin stories.

Her first appearance was in 2002′s Spiderman, directed by Sam Raimi as Theresa Beck. Played by Linda Cardellini, fans were ecstatic to see her character grace the big screen, her interactions with Bruce Campbell’s character leading many to speculate the latter was actually Mysterio. Raimi kept largely to the character’s comic canon, portraying Beck as a loner at Midtown High, whose jealously toward Mary Jane and sardonic humor eventually led to a relationship with Harry Osborn and her arc as the villain Stasis in Spiderman 3. Which was received poorly due to the lack of screen time and development given to the character as a whole.

The character later returned under a new name as Emma Beck--portrayed by breakout star Stella Maeve--in The Amazing Spiderman. An extroverted journalist who was speculated to have ties to Matt Murdock, Marc Webb intended for Emma Beck to have a much bigger storyline in The Amazing Spiderman 2, but unfortunately it had to be cut due to time constraints. Emma Beck was also intended to be the next love interest for Peter Parker in The Amazing Spiderman 3, replacing Mary Jane Watson after the death of Gwen Stacy. However, the sudden cancellation of the series promptly put an end to that plan.

The most recent version of the character has appeared in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and Spiderman: Homecoming as the best friend of Michelle Jones (MJ) and a high school rival of Peter Parker’s. Prompted by the recent backlash following the cancellation of TASM3 and script leaks that ignited fan’s rage, Kevin Feige announced that Danielle Rose Russell would be playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that she would play an important role in the future of the franchise. Tessa Beck has been rumored to show up in Wandavision, in addition to her upcoming appearance in Spiderman: Far From Home, with many fans believing Beck will be the key to introducing mutants to the MCU.

Alrighty, big brain time: Welcome to "F1's Got Talent"

Lewis Hamilton - he's the winner from last year. Mentors the new entries. Despite not competing, he somehow wins this year again.

Valtteri Bottas & Kimi Raikkonen - they're judges and are the only ones that can keep a straight face during bad performances. Valtteri abuses the X button, Kimi has to be explained over and over again that he cannot use the Golden Buzzer every 2 minutes when a child goes on stage.

Romain Grosjean - also a judge. He is very Done™ with all of this, and rigged the show to get Lewis to win so they can all get out early. It doesn't work.

Sebastian Vettel - he does witty stand up comedy, with a flair for self-deprecation towards his 2020 season. The crowd loves him. Valtteri votes him out.

Charles Leclerc - he bitches the entire time that the green room he was assigned is not fit for an artist of his caliber. He throws a fit and doesn't end up performing.

Lando Norris - he goes for a contemporary dance routine. Unfortunately he misjudges the length of the stage and falls down, tanking the performance. He wins the 'Miss Congeniality' award

Carlos Sainz - his performance consists of him showcasing how to pick up various objects from the ground without kneeling. After all, it's not part of his culture.

Daniel Ricciardo - he's the show host. He wears the most garish outfits possible. People still remember the episode he filmed where he wore leather chaps for the entire evening.

Esteban Ocon - he doesn't even know why he's there. 10 extra points in the championship is NOT worth him losing his dignity. He does get into a fight with Max backstage.

Kevin Magnussen - he goes full Evel Knievel by jumping over three buses on flames. Surprisingly makes the jump safely, if a little singed

Pierre Gasly - he's a one man show and does the whole 'Spirit Fingers' routine from Bring It On. The judges are intrigued yet horrified

Daniil Kvyat - he shows off his newly aquired musical skills. In his head, he's Carlos Santana with a guitar. In reality, he's more akin to a fifth grader who just learned "Old MacDonald had a farm" on a plastic recorder.

Max Verstappen - he shows up in a three piece suit, ready to sign for the crowd and show off his hidden baritone voice. Esteban calls him a "poor man's soprano" and they have a fight backstage. Daniel decides to broadcast that and the show has massive spike in views.

Alex Albon - he does a whole routine with the Albon pets, where they jump through hoops, over obstacles and land in our hearts. (I LOVE THEM, DONT @ ME)

George Russell - he is ready to dance/sing/play on stage, hoping that finally Toto Wolff will notice him. He finds out the night of the show that Toto is not even there, so he spends the evening crying in the bathroom.

Nicholas Latifi - he does a dance routine. ON ICE. Tessa Virtue who???

Lance Stroll - much like Esteban, he decides this shit is crazy and will not take part on it. He supports Ocon in his fight with Max by taking pictures and yelling "YOU'RE DOING AMAZING, KEEP GOING"

Sergio Perez - he does a magician's routine in which he makes things disappear. In fact, his main act consists of him disappearing with that vacant Racing Point seat. Sebastian Vettel who???

Antonio Giovinazzi - he goes on stage and all he does is stare at the camera while he lasciviously (?) whips his hair back and forth for a WHOLE FIVE MINUTES.. Valtteri screams, Romain has a small stroke and Kimi falls asleep.

Book Challenge 2020 (100 books!!) (I did it!!)

After forgetting to track my reading for three years, I started recording my reading on Tumblr last year again, and I’m committed to continuing that this year!

This year is my final year of my Bachelor’s Degrees (I’m finishing English in June) and I’m planning to do a gap year from September on, so now more university after June (at least as far as 2020 is concerned).

I do not really foresee any issues or obstacles to reading this year, except of course finishing my thesis which will probably take quite some time, so I do expect a decline around April until early June. Although I do have a lot more time off in my gap year, I used to read a lot of mandatory books for my studies, so I don’t know whether having a gap year will mean reading more books. Since I’m not doing any university studying, I am interested in reading academic books by myself, studying by myself. Those books are often longer, denser and just take more time to get through; consequently, I might read fewer books in the same amount of energy and time spent reading.

To make a (somewhat) long story short: my expectations are in line with the amount of books I’ve read in the last years, so I’m expecting to read 75 books this year!

Update: it’s mid-October and I’ve already read 99 books this year, so I’ve finished my original goal of 75 books! Now I’m going for 100 books (which should be easy to do, and after that we’ll just see how it goes!).

The crossed book is the one I’m currently reading, I’ve written reviews for books that have a (x) behind them, with the (x) being a link to my Goodreads review!

Update: Today (November 23) I’ve read 114 books so I’ve finished my challenge of 100 books! Right now, I’m still 25 books ahead schedule! Let’s see if I can keep that energy up!
