Note

Roman is set to meet Neo's new girlfriend. She opens the door, and Ruby Rose comes in. It naturally leads to an... awkward dinner with all three.

(I can do that, though its probably less awkward for Neo)

Roman watched as Neo finished getting ready for her date, still curious about who his partner in crime had been dating these past few months. Not that he really cared, but at the same time, Neo had been acting differently ever since she mentioned she had a girlfriend. Their crime sprees seemed to be at a stand still in Vale, only ever going out to the villages just outside the kingdom walls or going to Mistral whenever they had a job. And that concerned him. “So, are you ever going to tell me who you’re dating?”

Neo paused for a moment as she finished brushing her hair, then shrugged as she signed. “Maybe tonight.”

“What do you mean maybe? I’m your best friend, your partner, surely you’d tell me who you’re dating.”

“You’ll hate her.”

“Hate her?” Roman asked with a scoff. “If she can put up with you, then I’m not sure I’ll hate her.”

Neo smirked. “Great, she’ll be here for dinner.”

Roman paused for a moment as he held his cane, staring at Neo when he realized what she had signed. “Hold on, you’re inviting her here? Why didnt you tell me?”

“Because you were going out for a meeting.”

“Well, I can put off going to that meeting if it means meeting whoever’s caught your eye.”

“Dont say I didnt warn you.”

Roman rolled his eyes and put his cane up, watching Neo as she finished getting ready for her date. He’d thought that after nearly ten years of living with her, he’d seen just about everything she could do, but watching her put on her makeup, use her semblance to try out various looks before finally settling on an outfit, and almost seem more excited for the night than she’d been for any of their jobs, it was almost as if he didnt know her as well as he thought.

It wasnt long until he heard a knock at the door and he opened with a smile. “And you must be Neo’s-” The smile on his face dropped as he stopped talking, staring at Ruby standing on their doorstep. “And what, exactly, do you need, Red?”

Ruby looked away for a moment as she double checked the address. “I’m… here for Neo.”

“For Neo. Right. And what do you need her for?”

“A… dinner… date,” Ruby answered, holding back a bit of anger and a bit of embarrassment.

Roman paused for a moment as he took a quick look back at Neo who had a smile on her face. Then, it finally hit him why Neo thought he was going to hate her date. With an annoyed sigh, he moved out of the way of the door, and defeatedly motioned for Ruby to enter. “Welcome to our apartment.”

Neo immediately ran to Ruby to hug her and started to walk her to the kitchen, signing away to her. Roman closed the door and watched the two, regretting that he had moved his meeting in order to meet Neo’s date. Ruby Rose, the thorn in his side for nearly five years by getting in his way at just about every turn of a job, the huntress that practically made it her mission to put him behind bars, and now she was standing in his kitchen, welcomed by Neo. The world suddenly made a lot less sense than it had a few minutes before.

“I need to double check something, so stay here with Roman.” Neo signed very quickly before rushing into her room.

Roman sat down, watching Ruby as she stood at the other side of the kitchen. A cruel joke, that’s what this had to be. The gods were just playing a cruel joke on him. Neo would never date his nemesis, there had to be something more to this. Maybe Neo had some dirt on Ruby or this was just a way to keep Neo out of trouble.

He was pulled out of his thoughts as he heard Ruby move a chair and sit down across from him. “So… Red…” Roman did his best to keep from looking at Ruby, clearing his throat between his words. “You… you and Neo are-”

“Dating.” Ruby said with a nod, looking away from Roman. “Y-yeah… we… we are.”

“Right. And… how long?”

“Does it matter?”

“My partner matters to me.”

“Two years.”

Roman gave a quiet nod. Of course he knew it’d been two years, Neo hadnt been quiet about having a girlfriend. The only thing she’d been quiet about was *who* she’d been dating. Still, he was going to try to be civil about it all as long as Ruby was someone Neo cared about. “How?”

“How?” Ruby asked.

“How did you two start… dating?” Roman asked as he finally looked at Ruby. “I dont see how this didnt start as a way for Neo to get something.”

Ruby took a moment to answer. “She saved me after a mission went wrong.”

“What do you mean she saved you?”

“I mean she saved me.”

Roman frowned at the answer, but didnt argue as Neo came back out and started to bring over the soup she’d made. He got up to help her, pushing Ruby back down into her seat as she tried to get up. “You’re the guest, you dont have to help.”

Neo smiled a bit and directed Roman to grab the rolls and bowls. “Get along with her,” she signed.

“I’ll get along with her,” Roman said in a hushed whisper as he grabbed everything. “But I dont see why you’re dating her.”

“Because I love her.”

“I dont like this.” Roman sighed and finished grabbing what he was asked to grab and made his way back to the table, setting the bowls down along with the rolls as he watched Neo sit down next to Ruby and excitedly sign to her.

Once the table was set, he sat down to eat an awkward dinner as he watched Ruby and Neo talk to each other as they ate. He couldnt help but quietly eat as he learned about what Ruby had been up to, the missions she had taken, and the jobs that she’d managed to stop, all while doing his best to keep from interrupting. Though, he was glad once dinner had started to come to an end.

“We’re going out,” Neo signed to him just before clearing the table.

“Dont be out too late,” Roman said quietly as he watched Ruby help clear the table and follow Neo out. He had to admit, he hadnt seen Neo that happy in years and it was a breath of fresh air. He leaned back in his chair and let out a heavy sigh. “Of all people, why did it have to be Red?”

I'm bored and am in a RWBY mood.

SO HERE ARE MY 10 FAVORITE RWBY SHIPS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!

(Note: This is not a best ships list. This is a ships I personally like list. It literally means only that. If have you have different opinions than me, that's good.)

White Rose: Because come on. Come on! How could I not?

Bumbleby: Again, COME ON!

Crosshares: I am already out of reasons for obvious choices. They're just cute man

Renora: They can't all be gay ships. Hell do I even need to give a reason for this one?

Monochrome: Honestly I ship them because of a single artist who keeps drawing them and converted me to their way. They know who they are.

Nuts and Dolts: Amazing dynamic! These two together are just sensational together

Rosebird: Summer would attach herself to this woman and never let go until she starts being happy. And honestly, that's what Raven needs.

Strawberry Shortcake: I don't know how this happened. I read one fic and suddenly I was trapped in rarepair hell again

Ladybug: It's just adorable. At this point, put Blake with anybody, just don't leave her alone!

And I know I said in no particular order. But that doesn't apply to this one cause this is my favorite ship and I suffer for it.

Milk and Cereal: I cannot tell you how much I wish there was more for these two! 269 fics on Ao3 is what I'm working with. And if we exclude the multiship fics it's even less! I NEED MORE! I'm reaching the "Fuck it! I'll do myself!" stage!

Honorable mention to literally any ship that doesn't include Adam, Cinder, or Torchwick. All ships are great, but those three specifically can fuck off.

Also, Arkos is a good ship, and I would have it on here... But I see too much Jaune in my fic hunts. I just need a break from him.

🔔 Ruby on Neo

Ruby flicked the small, golden bell attached to the pink collar she held, almost entranced by the sound it made. She still wasnt sure where it came from or why the box seemed neatly placed in front of her doorstep, or who wrote the note in the envelope that was neatly tucked into the string that kept the box shut. But listening to the soft ring that came from it seemed to keep her mind calm, clearing out any of the thoughts and worries that she had as she rang it again.

“What is the collar for?” Neo signed out.

“I-I… I dont know.” Ruby sat the collar down back into its box as the ringing stopped. “I found it on our doorstep this morning. It wasnt addressed to anyone, and it came with a small note, but I havent read it yet. I think whoever left it here gave it to us by accident.”

“You should read it. It might tell us who its supposed to go to.”

Ruby looked at the message on the scroll that Neo had typed out just before she had taken the collar out of the box and started looking over it. Everything about this felt off, but she knew she couldnt argue with Neo and that she had a point. It was left at their doorstep, which meant that if it was meant for someone else, she’d have to read the note that came with it to figure that one out. So, she did exactly that, picking up the envelope and carefully opening it to read the note inside. The paper seemed warm to the touch, almost as if it had been freshly printed even though it had been sitting in her kitchen for a few hours. She read over the note, a small blush crossing her cheeks.

For an unforgettable night and a change of pace in the bedroom. Place around your lover’s neck, ring the bell, and enjoy a night the two of you will never forget.*

Ruby sat the note down and watched Neo as she looked over the bell and felt the silk band of the collar. On closer look, it almost looked more like a choker than a collar, one that she wouldnt be opposed to wearing if she could get the bell off. But the longer she looked at the bell and listened to the small rings as it moved, she couldnt help but think about what the note had told her. “Slip it onto my lover, huh?” she asked quickly to herself.

Neo finally looked up at Ruby and cocked her head to the side as she slowly signed to make sure Ruby could understand what she was asking. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, but may I see that really quick?” Ruby asked.

Neo nodded and handed over the collar. “Did the note tell you who it belonged to?”

Ruby shook her head and walked behind Neo. “No, but I’d like to see how it looks on you.” Her hands shook as she moved the collar around Neo’s neck and locked the clasp in place, making sure it was tight enough to not move but still loose enough that it sat on her comfortably without giving problems to eat or breathe. Her fingers hesitated for a moment as she moved them closer to the bell, almost feeling a warmth come from it. Then, the bell finally rang as she flicked her finger against it.

Ruby and Neo stayed still as the bell rang, listening to the soft chime until it stopped and listening to the silence around them for a few more seconds, waiting for something… anything to change. Ruby let out the breath she held, smiling softly with a sigh as she tried to undo the clasp of the collar. “Of course nothing would happen. Must be a prank that someone left for us, trying to see if we’d believe them.”

Neo sighed and picked her scroll back up. “What were you hoping for?”

“I dont know, the note said to put it onto someone and flick the bell for an unforgettable night, but I’m sure someone just had a bit too much time on their hands.” Ruby frowned a bit as she tried to undo the clasp for the collar, unable to get it to open. “Just a harmless prank.”

“Everything okay?” Neo signed with a wince as she felt Ruby tug the collar.

“I think the clasp is stuck. I cant seem to get it to unlatch.”

“We could cut it off.”

Ruby shook her head and pulled her fingers away from the collar. “We could, but I’d rather not ruin this. It does look a bit cute, even if its not the right shade of pink for you.” She ran her fingers across the fabric of the collar and flicked the bell again. “And we could still use it tonight.”

Neo blushed a bit and tugged at the collar a bit to adjust it. “I-I could keep it on,”

Ruby kissed Neo’s cheek and playfully tugged at the collar to pull Neo close. “And if you’re a good kitten, I’ll make sure you get rewarded.”

“For you, mistress.”

“Good girl.” Ruby flicked the bell one more time and felt a chill run down her spine. Her cheeks felt like they heated up for a moment as she blushed. With a deep breath, she turned to look at Neo once more, swearing she saw a tail swishing behind her before going back into the kitchen. “But that’ll have to wait until after my meeting with Ozpin. You’ll be fine until I get back, right?”

“Yes,” Neo signed, pocketing her scroll and grabbing Hush. “I’m meeting up with Roman today for lunch.”

“Please promise you wont steal anything.”

Neo pouted. “Fine.”

Ruby smiled and kissed her as she made her way to the door. “Good.”
