Five Fics Friday: December 15/23
Hey everyone!!! I hope you've had a wonderful week and are ready for some great fics to read this weekend!! Check out this fics I've added to lists recently!! Enjoy!!!
SIGNAL BOOSTING
Control by ladylindaaa (E, 2,270 w., 1 Ch. || Doms and Subs || Light BDSM, Dom Sherlock, Sub John, Blow Jobs, Hand Jobs, Emotional Sex, Comfort, Safety, Mental Health, Past Suicidal Ideation, Established Relationship, Face Fucking, Edging, Artsy Smut) – Somehow, even with the firm limitations of the universe in place, Sherlock touches him everywhere, all at once. The scientist has ignored the science—which was his very religion, before John came along—and persisted, still fighting for a complete integration of cells, an indivisible unity that’s derived from the sum of two.
RECENT MFLs
I Got Shot, Let's Have Dinner by Musings_0 (T, 5,583+ w., 4/10 Ch. || WIP || Alternate First Meeting AU || BAMF John, Meet as Kids, Reunion, Protective Mycroft, Big Brother Mycroft, Flirting, Past Relationship, Domestic Fluff, Humour) – What if Sherlock Holmes and John Watson already knew each other from school? When Mike reunites them, is something more than friendship rekindled?
Nothing to Celebrate by DiscordantWords (M, 30,066 w., 23 Ch. || Post TRF / S3 Rewrite, Reunion, Not-Nice Mary, Secrets, Lies, Pining, Angst with Happy Ending) – Sherlock Holmes is back from the dead. Things only get worse from there.

but you saw enough by markofalover (G, 1,882 w., 1 Ch. || LOKI SERIES || Lokius, S2E5 Rewrite, Time Travel, Recovered Memories, Love Confessions, First Kiss, Getting Together) – “What if,” he breaks the silence, at his desk. Loki’s got a chair pulled up right beside him, actually studying the TVA manual, because they can’t go anywhere without the other these days. “What if—we go look? Together?” Loki looks up immediately. “To your place on the timeline?”
Off The Beaten Path by ChaosAndOrder (T, 2,219 w., 1 Ch. || LOKI SERIES || Lokius, Post S2, S2E06 Fix It, Grief/Mourning, Loki Has ADHD, Feelings Realization, Pining Mobius, Angst with Melancholy Ending, Made Me Cry) – Mobius deals with the aftermath of Loki's choice and makes one of his own.

Right, so Graduation Day and Fool for Love advance to the next round. I just want to remind everyone that use of bots and fake accounts in voting is prohibited, and will result in the disqualification of the 'winner'. I'm sure everyone will behave going forward.
I have a feeling that today's polls will have less contentious choices, but we'll see, I've been wrong before.

Top 5 episodes from any show-ever?
Oh boy… this is tough. Any show ever? But there’s so many good shows! Ah!
Well since my blog is mainly me reblogging ouat stuff, I’ll do that, but as a bonus (for replying to this so late) I’ll add in five more at the end (mostly because I suck at making choices)
So in order of occurrence, my top 5 episodes of Ouat:
1:S1E08: Desperate Souls
2:S1E12: Skin Deep
3:S2E06: Tallahassee
4:S2E14: Manhattan
5:S3E8: Think Lovely Thoughts
(Runners up S1E17: Hat Trick, S2E04: The Crocodile, S2E11: The Outsider, S2E15: The Queen is Dead, and S2E19 Lacey and probably many many more beyond that but these are the 10 I’ve rewatched parts of the most.)
If anyone would like to see some non-ouat stuff, or even some more ouat stuff, feel free to ask me more top 5/10 related questions!

Character Headcannon: Eda the Owl Lady.
HOOhoohoheehEEhehoo I didn't expect to actually get responses to that post I reblogged >:]
(For this one, keep in mind I'm only through S2E06)
Headcanon A:  realistic
Eda 100% has a secret love for small cute things. Between taking in King, fawning over the Bat Queen's kids, and even being the one to suggest the palisman adoption event, she has slowly let her tough persona erode enough to reveal to us the big softie underneath. She still thinks it's embarrassing, though, which is why she doesn't indulge in it around other people... but just imagine the most feared witch in the Boiling Isles stopping to watch doe-eyed as some ducklings march across her path.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
She knows perfectly well what the human junk she finds actually is. She just also has a good enough business sense to know that the intended function of those items is of little consequence when she can instead play up how shiny or twirly or bizarre they are to her potential customers on the Isles. Plus it's really funny to play dumb and watch Luz get all confused or exasperated over it.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
How about: since she was a kid, she'd always wanted to study every magic track just because it's fricking cool, and c'mon, doesn't everyone want to be in the Emperor's Coven? But, after being cursed, she also had new reasons to avoid having her magic sealed off by a coven brand--namely, she was terrified of giving up even more of her power and autonomy after losing so much to a curse that seemed to have struck completely at random. Almost overnight, being free to cast every type of spell went from being an exciting life goal to being a necessity for survival, as well as the last semblance of choice that she felt she had left.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Eda knew the glyph patterns existed before Luz figured out what they were for. She never paid much attention to them or had any inkling they were related to magic--why would she even think about that sort of thing, when every witch she's ever known has their own biological source of magic?--but with how much respect she has for wild magic and the Titan in general, I feel like she would have at least seen the shapes in their natural forms like Luz did in the snowflake, etc. By the time Luz was trying to figure out the glyphs in more detail, Eda either wanted to leave her to figure it out on her own or just simply couldn't remember which patterns she'd seen where.

The Order S2E06
I’m rewatching The Order for the 4th time and basically just gonna live blog it so if you don’t want to see my blabbering posts about each episode you can block the tag #Rachel obsesses about The Order
2.06
Vera’s little finger pointing “No!” like a real Mom™
Of course Vera doesn’t want them dead, she loves them!
“That’s cannibalism, you asshole!” yikes
The sticky note on Hamish’s picture says “TA to professor Krowchuck. new to magic. Drinker.”
“He says no. Actually, he’s just laughing.”
FARMERS MARKET FROM HELL
idk how Vera thought that showing Xavier an empty room was going to prove anything
“I’d say….. use the force, Luke.”
Hamish is great at being a lil shit and totally derailing Foley’s little ‘magic show’
Do Foley and Salvador know that Hamish is a werewolf? Or they just know he’s part of The Order?
HAMISH JUST KICKED AN ENTIRE DOOR OFF ITS HINGES
“You know that being a werewolf is magic?” “I prefer to think of it as ‘magic-al’”
Who takes selfies with magical objects ugh
Randall just full on trashing Foley’s house, hell yeah.
“We fight, we kiss, we fight, we fight, we kiss” yeah that pretty much sums up their relationship
((they fight, they fight, they fight they fight they fight……. fight fight fight, fight fight fight….. The Itchy and Scratchy Show!))
Jack is easy to manipulate as long as you use Alyssa as your pawn
Gabrielle just *shoves phone in Vera’s face*
“You guys really need to re-evaluate your hiring policies”
Jack is pretty clever in the way he communicates with Vera basically in code and she being the smart boss ass bitch that she is figures it out
“I’m being told that I have to go die now, so I guess this is goodbye”
C’mon guys, you could be a little more subtle when talking about ‘the stuff’
Okay the Randall/Gabrielle silence of the lambs moment is pretty endearing but she’s still mostly a shallow bitch, even if we know she gets some character development later
Alyssa just stands there watching the Prometheans as they turn Jack into a fucking tree and doesn’t even say a word??????
Randall was maybe not the best choice to impersonate Salvador… he’s too much of a goofball
Don’t get me wrong that’s literally my favourite thing about Randall, but he’s not a very ‘professional’ kinda dude
Did the Prometheans stay the night at the temple? They must have, unless they legitimately spent that entire day and night ‘negotiating’ but after Vera decides on blood atonement, I imagine they all went to bed……somewhere….
Vera is also an alcohol……… aficionado
Randall is so bad at magic
Gabrielle isn’t a mediocre magician, even for just an acolyte, but it definitely seems like she’s a mediocre student
“Yeah, whatever mom, I’m trying to watch The Voice” “She hit her head pretty bad”
I love the way Hamish just grabs Foley by the ankles and drags him across the ground
Finally Alyssa protests against what they’re doing to Jack, she stood by watching for so damn long how could she bear it
You can truly see how guilty Jack feels over Lilith :(
Jack as a tree is the stuff of nightmares
“I’ve known Jack Morton for over a year, and I want to kill him at least once a week.” that’s fair.
Poor Vera, she’s clearly been through so much heartbreak and pain and god knows what, and she is still so strong and powerful and beautiful
“I bear it because I already lived it”
Please give us more of her life story
and then she looks so broken, so resigned to accept death if the Xavier really did kill her
‘Magus-level strategy’ I wonder if Jack will become Grand Magus one day, that would be an interesting turn of events
VERA WAS IN AN IMPROV TROUPE
Randall is a soft boi as always, looking after Gabrielle
“You know, just because I saved your ass doesn’t make us BFF’s” “It doesn’t mean we’re not BFF’s”
Can’t leave without smashing that trophy

THINGS I WATCHED IN 2022: Bridgerton (Season 2)
Do you think that there is a corner of this earth that you could travel to far away enough to free me from this torment? I am a gentleman. My father raised me to act with honor, but that honor is hanging by a thread that grows more precarious with every moment I spend in your presence. You are the bane of my existence. And the object of all my desires.

The Punisher Season 2 Easter Eggs And References
Yes, I know. You don’t have to tell me that the second season of The Punisher dropped on Netflix a month ago. Surprisingly, this last month has been extremely busy for me. Birthdays, family stuff, changes in management at my day job, changes in editors (thrice!) at my freelance job, plus prepping my tax stuff has left me with very little free time. I finally managed to finish the second season this weekend (and I started Umbrella Academy, which is really interesting, but something I’m not familiar with, so no Easter Eggs on that one, sorry!) and finish writing up Easter eggs as well.
As usual, there are spoilers, but I went episode by episode with the Easter eggs. Anybody worried about spoilers has probably already watched the show at this point. I feel like I was probably the last one out there who hadn’t watched. Despite it taking me forever and a day to watch the show, there’s still a chance I didn’t catch everything, especially since the Punisher doesn’t seem like a show with a lot of in-universe Easter eggs.
Happy reading!
S2E01 “Roadhouse Blues”
The Van
Oh, look. Pete AKA Frank is using a van full time. In the comics, the van houses a wide variety of weapons and surveillance equipment, but Frank isn’t quite that high tech without the help of someone like Micro around. He also calls it the Battle Van.
Lola’s Roadhouse
It’s probably just a coincidence, because Lola is just one of those names that pop culture junkies seem to love, but… who else thinks it might be a nod to Coulson’s favorite car in Agents of SHIELD?
Fiona
Some people will try to find the Marvel character that is “Fiona,” but again, I think this one is a coincidence. Why? Fiona is a weirdly popular name in comics. There’s a Fiona who is an Inhuman who can fly. There’s a Fiona who founds the sisterhood and hates men. There are also Fionas who are artists/writers/pencilers/etc in real life. I think this is just a case of them picking a pretty name.
Michigan
It’s the last place anyone would look, you say? Kind of like how it’s the last place anyone seems to care about because Flint still doesn’t have clean water? Yep.
S2E02 “Fight Or Flight”
Pete and Rachel
I like that Frank is still using the name Pete, but can we all laugh for a second about how these two are Pete and Rachel? It makes me laugh because these are two characters in friends. Pete only asks Monica out because he overhears Monica and Rachel talking about their love lives (or lack of them). Pete, funnily enough is like a Tony Stark character here: wealthy, throwing money around to get what he wants, buying women buildings, etc. He’s also played by Jon Favreau AKA Happy Hogan in the Iron Man movies. It’s one of those things that’s not meant to be a connection, but proves you can find “Easter eggs” in anything.
Rachel AKA Amy
Amy is based on a comic book character, but she’s been completely changed for the show. In the comics, she was a little girl who saw Frank escape a crime scene and promised him she wouldn’t tell anyone. He helped her out a few times as well. But, like I said, completely different. (Of course, the use of the name Rachel, and some of her later story gives a nod to another comic book character as well. We’ll talk about that later.)
Larkville, Ohio
Clearly based on Clarkville, Ohio. They thought leaving off one letter would make it less obvious? Anyway, here are some fun facts about Ohio in the MCU. It’s where there was a secret wing of a prison for powered people (thanks, Agents of SHIELD). It’s also where Coulson and company went to get information about CENTIPEDE (again, thanks Agents of SHIELD). Lincoln Campbell tried to escape Inhuman life as a doctor there (again, Agents of SHIELD). It’s also where Bucky sarcastically remarked Steve Rogers was from for one of his many fake ID’s to get in the army (Captain America: The First Avenger). And, it’s also where Helmut Zemo tracked down a super soldier in hiding (Captain America: Civil War). So, what I’m saying is, if you’re interested in lying low in the MCU, you don’t go to Ohio. Someone will find you.
Billy’s Memory
Billy Russo’s memory being jumbled, or having gaps, provides a nice storytelling device, but it’s also a nice nod to the comics. His memory was manipulated, or he was brainwashed, a few times. The only thing that restored his memory those times? Fighting the Punisher, of course.
A Jigsaw Puzzle
Lots of puzzle references to Billy, and with good reason. In the comics, he’s Jigsaw. The guy gets thrown through a plate glass window and his face is put back together like a jigsaw by a surgeon. He takes on the name and vows revenge.
Billy’s Mask
His mask is more than just to build suspense by covering up his face. You’ll see there are red and blue colors on the sides? It’s meant to be a nod to an art therapy practice that’s become helpful in treating soldiers with PTSD as a result of their work. Soldiers are instructed to create a mask to show people what they’re feeling on the inside, even if they can’t say it. National Geographic did a whole piece on how the work has been helping people. I wrote about it in my Jigsaw list, briefly.
S2E03 “Trouble The Water”
129
The door number that is clearly visible when Billy breaks out of the hospital with his therapist’s help is 129. To be fair, most house numbers, door numbers, and phone numbers are completely random. This one might be a coincidence. But… Amazing Spider-Man issue 129 was the very first appearance of the Punisher. Jigsaw AKA Billy Russo appeared over 30 issues later in the same series. It seems purposeful.
Mahoney
Look at Mahoney, making the rounds still. He started as a character on Daredevil and has worked his way through the Netflix shows.
The Pilgrim
That’s the name given in press releases to the religious villain who has some, uh, questionable tattoos removed once upon a time. He’s not a specific comic book character, but a lot of people have compared him to the Mennonite from the old Punisher comics.
S2E04 “Scar Tissue”
WHiH
The world news station of choice in the MCU, this one gets more attention in the movies. It’s covering news from every corner of the globe. Recently, it’s made its way into the Netflix shows, Agents of SHIELD, and Runaways as well.
WJBP TV
Another station in the MCU, this one is local. It’s typically only seen in the Netflix corner of the universe, so it’s usually covering New York news.
The Kitten Hanging On The Branch
I’m sorry, but did anyone not see one of these posters if they grew up in the United States? Nice nod to the inspirational poster schtick the public school system has. I think I saw it in guidance counselor offices at every school I went to.
New York Bulletin
Yes, the Bulletin is still going strong despite losing a lot of its staff in the second season of Daredevil.
Amy AKA Rachel
Okay, so despite looking like a nod to the little kid who keeps Frank’s secret in the comics, this character also appears to be a nod to Rachel Cole. She ended up in the middle of a gang war and became a vigilante, falling in with Frank.
Baseball
So, Billy had a thing for baseball? You know who else had a thing for baseball? Dex AKA Bullseye in Daredevil season two. Nice job keeping your sociopaths on theme, Netflix MCU.
S2E05 “One-Eyed Jacks”
Three Card Monte
I have a hard time believing that Frank Castle, marine, killer, and all around street savvy dude, doesn’t understand how Three Card Monte works. Then again, maybe no one has tried to swindle him with cards because they value their life. Who knows? Anyway, I found this version interesting because most people who hustle with it want you to “find the lady” as the queen of hearts. Here, it’s the queen of diamonds. I’m not sure what that says, but it’s interesting. (Also, I feel like Amy AKA Rachel and Skye AKA Daisy would get along. It reminded me of the sugar packets and Mike’s ID in the Agents of SHIELD pilot).
Turk Barrett
At this point, if you don’t know who Turk is, I’m just going to assume you haven’t seen any of the Netflix shows before. In which case, why are you reading these Easter eggs? Go start watching from the beginning, and then come back.
Oh, sh1t!
I think it’s cute that for all her life as a hustler, she doesn’t use actual curse words, but instead, speaks the way teens might curse via text.
S2E06 “Nakazal”
“You could always burn the place down.”
I feel like this is a nod to how arson tends to be a last resort for Frank in the comics. He prefers to go in, guns blazing, and just take people out. There are a few stories where he’s torched whole buildings, but they usually are just a minor thing in a major story arc.
Anderson And Eliza Schultz
Not comic book characters, but they do share their surname with Herman Schultz AKA the Shocker. I think that’s probably not a big connection. Instead, it’s more likely that the writers liked the name, and as a bonus, it gives them a nod to comic creators Charles Schultz (Peanuts) and Mark Schultz (art for DC, but also really big in indie comics).
I’m not going to list all of the political commentary in this episode, but whew. They really went for it.
S2E07 “One Bad Day”
The Title
“All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man to lunacy.” Or at least, that’s what the Joker believes in Batman’s The Killing Joke. It’s one of the biggest Batman stories ever, so I’m thinking the title is no coincidence. I also think a few staff members are Batman fans since the kid in the first episode also had a Batman backpack.
Fragmentation Grenade
An interesting choice for a weapon since in the comics, Jigsaw gets healed a few times, only to have his face ruined again by the Punisher. One of those times is the result of a fragmentation grenade.
S2E08 “My Brother’s Keeper”
The Fatal Shore By Robert Hughes
The book Amy reads when she’s bored in the trailer is actually about the founding of Australia. History teaches us it was a penal colony - the place where criminals were shipped to start over - but there were already Aboriginals there, which made for quite the conflict. Someone like Amy probably would have found the crime, the hustle of the whole thing, interesting, but she doesn’t strike me as someone who would be into history, so it’s no wonder she put it down.
“He did everything he could to you to make sure you suffered for the rest of your life.”
Yes. This is exactly why Frank leaves Billy alive in the comics. He kills everyone who had a hand in the deaths of his family - all but Billy, even though they weren’t as close as brothers in the comics. He leaves Billy alive so that the guy can suffer, but also to serve as a warning to anyone who comes after him. Billy spends a lot of his story arcs either trying to get revenge, or trying to get his “pretty boy” looks back.
S2E09 “Flustercluck”
Valhalla
Do we say this is a nod to the Thor franchise, or do we just accept that the world at large has the idea of Valhalla as paradise? Your call.
“I’m not the one that dies…”
I’ll confess Punisher is not my comic book cup of tea, but I feel like he said this line in a comic once. I could be wrong.
S2E10 “The Dark Hearts Of Men”
The Title
Pretty sure this is a nod to a Bible verse about humanity. But I’m not up on my Bible knowledge and a google search just gives me a bunch of reviews of this episode, so I’m sorry this isn’t more specific?
“Drunkards Prayer”
This is the song that plays when the Pilgrim is both fighting and recovering from his fight. It’s a song about wanting to be pious, but knowing you’re an addict. And it fits with his character pretty well. AJ McLean (of the Backstreet Boys) covered it once, if you’re interested. I think you could also apply it to just about any character in Castle’s world - people wanting to be better, but unable to leave the bad things in their life behind. And no, I won’t dissect every song choice for the season, but this one stuck with me.
Making Castle Believe The Worst
Making the Punisher believe he killed innocent people is straight out of the comics. It’s one trick a villain uses to bring him down, though ultimately, he figures out he wasn’t the one responsible. That looks like the same thing here with Castle believing he killed the women and the therapist’s “I know how to break Castle” thing.
S2E11 “The Abyss”
Queens
I find it interesting that the Punisher is frequenting Queens a lot in this season. (The warehouse where he gets arrested, as noted in the radio broadcast, is in Queens.) Why? Because he was introduced in a Spider-Man comic and frequently crossed paths with the web crawler. Where is Peter Parker from? Queens.
Karen Page
Karen’s appearance as Frank’s “lawyer” here muddles the timeline a bit. We’ve all been thinking this occurs after season three of Daredevil. That season ended with Matt and Foggy reforming Nelson and Murdock, but with making Karen a partner as well. Never mind that she doesn’t have a law degree or anything like that. But, Karen introduces herself as representing Nelson and Murdock. Maybe her name isn’t in the business because she’s not a lawyer? Or maybe this is actually set before that? Who knows? It’s all very ambiguous.
Sacred Saints Hospital
While this hospital didn’t appear in another episode, the Sacred Saints Cemetery did, and I wonder if they’re connected to one another? Sacred Saints is where Elektra was supposedly buried, which gives us a lot of Daredevil connections in this episode, huh?
Matt Murdock
Frank mentions the man himself while talking with Karen. I feel like this is more of a reminder that Frank knows Matt is Daredevil than it is a legit comment on the state of Matt and Karen’s relationship.
Karen’s Shoes
Not an Easter egg, but I like that the payment to the morgue tech/assistant medical examiner was her very expensive shoes, not something tropey like drinks with him. Thank you, writers. This was cute. Also, it gave Karen the means to run around the hotel easier and not be held back by her heels.
S2E12 “Collision Course”
Mr. Blue
The only thing I noticed in this episode was the nickname given to Billy by the florist. It’s actually the alias Betty Ross used in the comments when Bruce Banner was a fugitive and she tried to stay in contact with him. Probably not intentional, but you never know.
S2E13 “The Whirlwind”
“...pull your spine out of your throat…”
In the “Space” stories for the Punisher, he does something like this to Ultron, funnily enough. He reaches into Ultron’s mouth and pulls his core out, not his spine, through his throat.
Dive School In Florida
Okay, I couldn’t find any characters associated with the Punisher who spend a lot of time in Florida, but I can tell you Florida made its first appearance for Marve in Marvel Comics #1, that Man-Thing is from there, and that Captain Marvel spent time there working for NASA. Florida has also popped up in a few episodes of Agents of SHIELD. It’s where Joey (former SHIELD ally and Inhuman teammate) lives, where Elena has friends, and where May and Coulson pretended to be married to steal a painting.
The Final Shot
That final image of Castle in his Punisher vest opening fire has been in several comics. It’s clear it’s intentional.
Stan Lee
The final episode closes with an “in loving memory.” Not really an Easter egg, but worth a mention. While Stan Lee did not create the Punisher, he had a hand in his name. Originally, Frank Castle was going to be called the Assassin. Lee thought they should go for something a little less on the nose, and coined the Punisher.
A few notes for the season:
Castle never purposely uses lethal force against law enforcement. I guess that’s supposed to make us believe that his killing of all the bad guys is acceptable.
The support group that Curtis leads? One of my favorite things is that there are a lot of flyers on the bulletin boards behind them for things like free puppies. A lot of these guys would do better (not suddenly be whole again, but maybe do a little bit better) with an emotional support animal. It’s proven that having an animal to come home to can actually help you live longer. It’s one of the reasons there are groups that take animals into children’s hospitals and retirement homes for people to play with.
The season finale actually feels very final to me. I think this might have been the only one of the MCU Netflix shows where the writers thought they might not come back? Because it seems like they closed everything up nicely instead of teasing something else down the line.
That’s all I’ve got this time around. The next Easter egg list on the horizon for me is, I believe, Captain Marvel, which should be up the same weekend it releases since I’m seeing that one opening night.

Part 14 of the series in which Phryne retrieves the evidence before turning it over to Jack. Eventually.

Team Jack - Marked for Murder (S2E06)
When it comes to footy, the most important thing is picking a team and STICKING with it. And, although miss Fisher isn't a footy fan, she has already chosen her team, and her choice is being on Jack's side.
Music and clip bits in this video:
1. The Pointer Sisters - Jump (For my love)
2. Sia - Together
3. Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team
P.S. This one was probably the hardest one to make. I haven't seen any other episode of the series with so many unrelated scenes, but yet so relevant to the story, so it was pretty difficult to make this video flow, which I still haven't achieved. And for that I apologize. Be kind, please? 🥰

Jessica Jones Season 2 Easter Eggs And References
Instead of a six sentence Sunday this week, since it’s been over a week since the second season of Jessica Jones dropped on Netflix, I bring you lots of Easter eggs. They’re all broken down by episode so you can skip to the ones that interest you.
First and foremost, before we even get into the episodes, is this that someone pointed out on twitter. Just like in the first season where plenty of iconic imagery from the comics was used, even the promotional image Netflix uses this season is based on a comic book panel. And just like in season one, the episode titles are all actually voiced in the episodes.
S2E01 AKA Start At The Beginning
Metro General
Apparently, this is the only hospital in New York, and its staff, other than Claire Temple, is all pretty much useless since they didn’t notice a teenage girl suddenly appearing out of thin air 17 years ago.
Lizards Wearing Human Skins
This probably isn’t an outright Marvel reference since it’s used as a joke in sci-fi all the time, but when one of Jessica’s potential clients mentions this, it reminded me that Agents of SHIELD did confirm that one of Marvel’s reptilian races, the Gegku, exist in the MCU since Fitz was wearing their larva as a pin in season five. As for the “wearing human skin,” Agents of SHIELD also did that with the Chronocoms in season five, and we know that the Skrull (who are shapeshifters) are heading to the MCU in Captain Marvel next year. So, hey, maybe it’s a reference after all.
The Whizzer
A guy with a penchant for yellow and blue who happens to have super speed isn’t just an invention for the show. Though his name is revealed as Robert Coleman, he was Robert Frank in the comics, and really popular in the 1940s. He was a character some fans theorized would pop up on Agent Carter because of his ties to the time period, but he was adapted for a (brief) time on Jessica Jones instead. The character actually fell out of favor with audiences as Captain America gained popularity. His comic book origin was the result of Dr. Emil giving him a blood transfusion from a mongoose… which gets a reference on the show too, though in a surprising way.
Trish’s Patsy Costume
That costume, right down to the colors and the go-go boots, is something teenage Patsy would have worn in the comics. They’ve really done a nice job at the callbacks for this character.
The Killers
The movie playing on the rooftop is the 1946 movie The Killers, which was adapted from an Ernest Hemingway story. In it, a boxer was paid to throw a fight and thinks he’s going to be killed after the fact. Which is basically the backstory for Daredevil’s father.
Trish Keeping “the others’” Secret
Trish makes a point of saying that she didn’t reveal Jessica’s identity on her talk show, even if it’s easy to trace Trish to Jessica. But she also mentions that she didn’t reveal any of the others. That’s a reminder that the two of them have now met the main players from Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in The Defenders in case anyone forgot that Trish’s superhero complex wasn’t just a result of her friendship with Jessica, but living in a world full of heroes and just being Trish.
Maynard Tiboldt
The hypnotist that Trish mentions is a comic book character called the Ringmaster, just like his father before him. He debuted in the sixties in the comics and used a mind controlling hat while he was in charge of the Circus of Crime. A version of a Ringmaster actually appeared in Iron Fist as well, so I feel like this is more a case of the writers wanting to reference another controlling male character than planning on doing anything with him.
Crap On Jessica Day Is Next Month
Okay, so I know this isn’t a reference since writers didn’t know exactly when the show would be released when they were writing, but I found this line by Trish funny only because Infinity War’s release date was officially moved up to April, which is the month after Jessica Jones drops, and when the world will, presumably, go to crap, for the heroes living in it.
S2E02 AKA Freak Accident
Josie’s Bar
Look, it’s not just Matt, Foggy, and Karen who like to take their shots at Josie’s anymore. It’s becoming a regular Netflix hangout. And one with a Game of Thrones pinball machine.
The Patsy Walker Posters
The illustrated images used are pulled straight from old comics.
Those Spider-Man References
The idea of a spidey sense and the whole “with great power” phrasing has become such a large part of pop culture, that it they might not be a purposeful shout out to Spider-Man, but they should be. “With great power comes great mental illness” from the Whizzer and Griffin’s “scoty-sense” being referenced reminds comic book readers that on the page, Jessica was actually a classmate of Peter Parker’s when she was a teenager - which is obviously a very different timeline than the MCU. Jessica even had a crush on him at one point, but literally no one even noticed her until her family’s tragic accident. She didn’t take it well.
Simpson’s Inhaler
It plays a role later in the show too, but it’s confirmation that Will Simpson is a character inspired by Nuke if the red and blue pills from last season weren’t enough. In the comics, the pills activate his adrenaline, strength, etc. This season, he’s upgraded to the inhaler for a quicker method of application.
S2E03 AKA Sole Survivor
Foggy Nelson
So, it’s not just Josie’s that Jessica Jones is borrowing from Daredevil. This is just your reminder that Foggy now works at the same law firm as Jeri Hogarth. Him reaching out to someone having a tough time is probably also serving as a reminder that he’s having a tough time of his own - he thinks his best friend is dead.
Leslie Hansen
Hansen might just be a fairly common last name in the MCU, but it could also be that this doctor is related to Maya Hansen, seen on the big screen in Iron Man 3. She was one of the scientists working on the Extremis serum, and over the course of the movie, she was killed. Fun fact: She was originally supposed to be the villain of the movie, but the script was changed because Marvel didn’t think a female villain would sell toys. I like to think that Jessica Jones, a show that had all female directors for its second season, and all female artists doing its posters for promotional work, picked the name Hansen on purpose to prove a point, but that might be reaching.
Captain America’s Action Figure
We’ve seen Avengers toys and things in the MCU properties before, but it’s a nice nod here that this action figure belongs to a kid that lost Cap’s shield, so he had to make him a new one… which is exactly what just happened to Cap himself since he’s getting a new shield in Infinity War. Also a fun nod? A magnet was used to attach a new shield to the toy. There was a time in the comics when Cap used a magnetic glove to make sure his shield returned to him.
S2E04 AKA God Help the Hobo
We Prefer Gifted
The MCU has typically thrown around the word “enhanced” when it comes to people who were experimented on and ended up with abilities. “Gifted” is used less often simply because of its association with X-Men and the divide between Marvel Studios and FOX. It’s an interesting choice to have Jessica use the term (she also used it in season one) now that FOX has its own Marvel superhero show in The Gifted, which is set in the X-Men world.
Are you bulletproof?
I think Vito asks Jessica this as a nod to Luke Cage, but it could be a coincidence. He’s the only hero we know who got press for being bulletproof in the MCU though.
Hedy Wolfe
When audiences get a glimpse at the magazine cover highlighting Trish out with Malcolm, there’s a smaller headline that reads “Hedy Wolfe clashes with gal pal.” Hedy was one of Patsy’s costars in the comics.
S2E05 AKA The Octopus
Malcolm’s Painting
Funnily enough, Malcolm had a painting of an octopus in his living room in earlier episodes. I don’t know if someone in the writers room just really likes the animals or what.
“I know how you people like to team up.”
It does seem to be true in the MCU that one super powered person leads to a group. We’ve got the Defenders, the Avengers, the Secret Warriors, SHIELD itself, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
David Kawecki
Not a comic book character, but I think this name might be a nod to Annette Kawecki. She was a cover artist and letterer for Marvel in the 70s. The promotional team for the show released posters/book covers for every episode this season all designed by women, so I like to think this was a purposeful shout out. Especially since the character liked to draw. I feel like there could be more names that acted as shout outs to women in the industry as well, but I didn’t catch them all.
Don’t smile.
Okay, probably not an intentional Easter egg, but you have to admit that seeing a guy tease Jessica not to smile when he’s taking her picture actually made you smile instead of the sick feeling provided by Kilgrave’s command for her to smile.
S2E06 AKA Facetime
Purple and Yellow
I’m sure everyone knows that purple makes up the primary color in Jessica’s show. Each of the Netflix Marvel series has a signature color, so when Jessica and Oscar get busy and knock the paint over, of course it’s purple. The color isn’t just a nod to Killgrave’s Purple Man, but also the color that dominates her comic book covers. The working title for the series is also Violet. Funnier to me is that during the sex, they also manage to knock over the yellow paint, even when Jessica tries to move the paint cans out of the way. Yellow is Luke Cage’s signature color. But maybe that’s just a coincidence.
Karl Malus
The doctor that did all that experimenting is based on a comic book villain. He wasn’t one of Jessica Jones’ villains though, but Jessica Drew. Rumor has it Jessica Drew could be making appearances in Spider-Man movies soon, so that seems appropriate.
Jessica’s Painting
Oscar’s painting for Jessica might have a pretty distinctive style if you’re familiar with the comics. David Mack creates art in that same style (pretty sure he’s who painted everything that belongs to Oscar) and designed comic book covers and posters for Jessica Jones.
S2E07 AKA I Want Your Cray Cray
Jessica’s Mom
The big reveal here is that Jessica’s mom is alive. In the comics, Alisa Jones is the name of the woman who adopts Jessica, not the name of her birth mother, but the show’s using the name all the same.
Gentech
Genetic Technology seems to be the fun way to name many a research company in the comics. So many companies get called “insert name here” Gentech. In fact, Maya Hansen worked for a company called Prometheus Gentech. So, it’s nice that carries over into the MCU as well.
That Music Video
Everybody else got some serious Britney Spears vibes from Trish’s music video, right? Similar aesthetic, similar pop music, and similar career path (at the time).
Jessica Campbell Jones
In the comics, the family that adopts Jessica has the last name Jones. Her birthname is Jessica Campbell. Since the show had Jones as her name from birth, adding in Campbell as her middle name was a nice touch.
“I’m gonna live forever.”
Yes, I think this is more of a reference to FAME than anything else since Trish wants to be seen as extraordinary. But maybe it’s also a hint to Patsy Walker’s comic book destiny of dying and only to get super powers in Hell and come back as the hero Hellcat.
I’d also like to point out how sad it is that Jessica’s love for boots and leather jackets, plus the name of her business, is the result of the last serious relationship she had before the mess she got into with Luke Cage. The past was haunting her even before Killgrave.
Touch of Evil
The rooftop movie that we get a scene from here is the 1958 film Touch of Evil which is actually famous amongst film critics for its tracking shots. Who else is famous from long tracking shots? That would be the Marvel shows. Every Marvel Netflix show (and Agents of SHIELD) has employed single take fight scenes.
S2E08 AKA Ain’t We Got Fun
The Raft
Yes, you might recognize the name of this prison. It made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. You might remember it as the place in the middle of the ocean housing the Avengers that aligned with Cap. It was also in the comics before that.
Don’t feed the trolls
I feel like every woman in the entertainment industry has probably been told this about interactions on social media, so this line was probably easy for a show run by women to add in.
Trish Has Claws
Yes, she totally scratched up a guy’s face, a nice nod to the fact that Hellcat wears gloves with claws in the comics.
S2E09 AKA Shark in the Bathtub, Monster in the Bed
Stan Lee
He doesn’t have his usually police officer poster cameo. Instead, he appears on a poster advertising a law firm outside of Port Authority. Maybe he’s really a model?
Forbush
That law firm Stan is advertising is Forbush and Associates. Forbush-Man was a Marvel character. He was created for Marvel’s comedy magazine called Snafu. (Forbush also happens to be the last name of the police captain that Lee usually cameos as.)
S2E10 AKA Pork Chop
A Plant Based Component
I saw someone mention that the plant based component in the inhaler that couldn’t be identified might be a nod to Black Panther’s heart shaped herb. I like the idea, but I don’t think that’s the case.
“There’s a hole in your soul.”
This line reminded me of the fact that Trish’s mother actually attempts to sell Trish’s soul in the comics in order to extend her own life. Things like that are actually fairly common in the comics with things like the Darkhold, Ghost Rider, and Mephisto dealing with actually demons and a dimension that Mephisto likes to pretend is Hell.
S2E11 AKA Three Lives And Counting
Feline Distemper Vaccine
Amongst the things that Dr. Malus uses on Trish during the procedure to give her powers is the Feline Distemper Vaccine. Feline. Like for a Hellcat. The writers were not messing around with the Hellcat foreshadowing this season.
Cell Block D
Alisa was held in the same part of the prison that housed the Punisher and Kingpin. It’s where all the most dangerous Netflix criminals go.
S2E12 AKA Pray For My Patsy
WJBP
The station depicting the news has also appeared in other Marvel Netflix shows, and if I remember correctly, Agents of SHIELD.
“You can’t stop selling your daughter even if it kills her.”
Again, not just a reference to the fact that Dorothy Walker in an opportunist, but also to the fact that she tries to sell her daughter’s own soul in the comics.
Turk
Hey, look, it’s New York’s only street level arms dealer. Really, he’s appeared in every Netflix show so far, typically getting beat up by a hero for selling a weapon to a bad guy. At least this time around, he didn’t get beat up.
Doctors Giving Powers In Back Alleys
There’s this idea that people want superheroes so badly that they don’t care how they get them, appealing to shady doctors in suspicious areas to get the job done. This bit of dialogue is actually reminiscent of an Alias comic book storyline (that’s Jessica’s original comic book) that saw gangs kidnapping people with mutant abilities and harvesting Mutant Growth Hormone from them. It was made into a drug that they dealt.
S2E13 AKA Playland
You just used up two of your nine lives… not to mention those reflexes
Yet another nod to Trish and her feline ways, prompting more speculation that she’ll finally become Hellcat when she appears in the Netflix shows again. The end of the episode shows she’s got some super reflexes now, a reflection of her character’s agility in the comics.

Love and Football - Marked for Murder (S2E06)
Requested by Rebecca Jackson, Michele Martin, @mkgood2go
Jack is an Abbotsford man. But Phryne isn't, because she hasn't been allowed to attend football games. Especially since she's been known to smuggle beer to the players at the tender age of only 10 years old. She's a dangerous woman, this one. She makes the players celebrate even before they claim their victory. But Jack is OK with that, because "all is fair in love and football". And every other sport, apparently. So, obviously, Phryne decides to stay and watch the game with Jack. And Jack, as a token of his appreciation, wraps his footy scarf around her neck, like a good, romantic footy fan that he is. And from this moment on, history writes itself.
Music in this video: Marvin Gaye - Let's get it on
