Friday, March 27, 1987.

Steve stares at the date on the calendar, his morning coffee clutched tightly in both hands as he takes a deep breath in and out. It's been a year already.

A year since Eddie died.

It feels like just yesterday he was holding Dustin's hand as they watched Eddie's empty casket lower into the ground. The people of Hawkins had treated the day like a holiday, they'd smiled as they drove past the funeral, and by the end of the day, Eddie's grave stone was covered in graffiti. Steve still goes there often to clean it because if he doesn't do it, then Wayne will, and the man has already been through enough.

Sometimes, Steve wakes in the middle of the night convinced he's still in the upside down, convinced that he can hear Dustin screaming over the walkies for help. Some nights, he cradles his pillow in his sleep thinking that he's holding Eddie's lifeless body. He hasn't had a peaceful sleep in over a year.

He should probably call Wayne, offer to have him over for dinner. He can't imagine what Wayne must be feeling; he lost the only thing he called family.

There's a noise to Steve's left, someone coming down the stairs. He tears his gaze away from the calendar on the fridge and reaches for the cup of coffee that had been waiting on the bench.

"Coffee, love?" He presses the warm mug into his partner's cold hands and presses a soft kiss to his forehead.

A sleepy "Thanks." Is all he gets in reply as his partner leans his head on Steve's shoulder, they're both staring at the calendar now.

"Happy death day, Eddie." Steve says softly.

Eddie lifts his head off of his shoulder and presses a chaste kiss to the side of Steve's mouth; the scars on the side of his face are lit up beautifully in the morning light. "Happy death day to me."

people who think clem surviving makes no sense are so funny. "they were literally foreshadowing her death the entire season" let me introduce you to the concept of a red herring. she tells lilly she isnt lee and shes right. the narrative was forcing her down that path, a path she saw as an inevitable fate waiting to take her too, but its a narrative broken by aj, who is also his own person and not S1 clem

"it happened to lee, and itll happen to you" lilly tells clem she'll die protecting aj from some mistake he makes, when in reality his defiance of her will is what saves her life after she had already accepted her fate. he breaks clem free from the lee cycle and they get their relatively happy ending. good for them

#anyway in the commentary they talk about how they Were going to have a death ending but didnt like the idea of the good/bad ending #and how people would moreso try to avoid the 'bad end' which i understand and appreciate bc thats usually what happens #so instead they gave us both :) idk why some people seem to have such a huge problem with that #they broke the cycle :) the ericson kids broke the cycle by being a loving community :) they all break the cycle by refusing the delta #lilly and minnie were both lost to the cycle. lilly with her dad and minnie with lilly #minnie couldnt let go. clem almost did the same and it would have killed her too. but aj makes a Choice and it saves her #god even tho clem is noticeably happier in s4 shes still so gd depressed and Tired. she accepted it so fast im so glad he saved her #like idk you saw her come back on screen after that massive fake out and you got Mad?? i was crying twice as hard #i know ive made this similar post before but like i still see this criticism in 2024 and i just have to laugh now #it speaks #twdg #i just love the narrative threads of S4 bro.... seasons 1 and 4 are two sides of the same coin and i love that. its satisfying

i love dawn and willows relationship like- so much. So honestly one of the things i spend most time thinking about is like times theyve bonded in the fake memories.

you want examples? well, i will provide:

the first time they met. willow is over at buffys house for the first time. she has no clue buffy has a sister cause buffys embarrassed. dawn has heard all about willow cause buffy thinks willow is fucking awsome. dawn pretty instanly very much agrees. Willow eats dinner at the summers, the whole family is bickering and apologises for it but willow being used to quiet and cold or just lonley dinners adores it.

Halloween in s2. Joyce is out of town (like in canon) and buffy sure as hell doesnt want to take dawn. and joyce doesnt want her with a stranger so willow offers to take her with the rest of her kids. Dawn who hasnt hit her growth spurt can wear the same costume as last year(a witch) and stays herself the whole night. When willow leaves the group to talk to giles she puts dawn in charge to make sure no one gets themselves or anyone else killed, her included. cause with slayer princess, shooty xander and cordelia, shes the most reliable and she knows dawn can be responsible if it calls for it, sometimes. Dawn loves willow more than ever and when its all over she quietly admits she was terrified and willow says she did wonderfully.

the end of s2. dawn is staying over at the hospital while willow is in her coma (and that way misses buffy and joyces fight). Shes as terrified as the rest. shes there when willow does her first spell, she thinks its so much cooler than being a slayer.

between season 2 and 3. joyce is depressed and spending alomst all her time looking for buffy. willow is guilty cause she thinks she failed the soul spell, and therefore caused buffy running away. she comes over with cookies and realises dawn is kinda being neglected, so she offers to babysit. Joyce appreciates it a lot. willow thinks its nice too, takes her mind of her guilt and this way she can get out of her empty house and almost pretend she has a family.(she does, the scoobies, dawn and joyce included, but like yk what i mean, normal family)

gingerbread. MOO never tried to kill dawn but they stopped her from interfering and kept her close saying stuff like "were doing this for you, the children". She doesnt talk to her mom to at least a week and when she bumps into Sheila in the street she spits on her.
