hello, thanks so much for doing your scam busting, is the account @/shtunning another palestine scam? i can't find the images used on google anywhere, but the lack of a gofundme makes me wary
This one is looking veeeery suspicious & is pretty much most certainly a scam for the dollowing reasons:
El-shab-hussein, a Palestinian who's been helping us with vetting real Palestinian fundraisers from scams, says that the ONLY confirmed Palestinian fundraisers who claim to be in Gaza are on this list, and that blog is not one of them
That blog already has me preemptively blocked 馃え 馃毄 I've never interacted with this person in my life, and its a big red flag to have scam busters blocked
Their donation post was made YESTERDAY, and their archive is turned off 馃毄we see scammers do this to hide how old their blog actually is (that it's new and suddenly asking for money) and to make it harder to investigate them
Their donation post reblogs and replies have been turned off 馃毄scammers do this usually after someone has called them out on their suspicious behavior, often with proof that they're scamming, and they do it to hide the evidence and prevent anyone from seeing or reblogging this evidence against them
They're asking for donations, but do not provide a paypal or gofundme attached 馃毄 scammers nowadays also often try to hide their paypal because they like to reuse one account across multiple scams, and used them enough for those accounts to be recognizable bc scam busters keep track of them. Additionally, you can tell someone's actual location by a paypal link, so scammers often are trying to hide any discrepancies in their fake story (like say, pretending to be in Europe but are actually in Canada). Laura Deramas & co have been doing this a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was her
They claim that the photos they provide are of their family in Gaza, but there's literally a watermark of these photos originally being from the website Gazanow 馃毄 why you would use a seperate website's photos of your family & then blur out your family's faces from the photo (even though it's already on a public website & that's where you got it?), instead of any photos that THEY themselves took, makes no sense to me, & is extremely suspicious.
They claim their "entire family" is in Gaza and that they've been working & supporting their family abroad (presumably allegedly in Europe since theyre asking for money in Euros) since 2016, and that they are 24 years old. So according to them, They've been the single sole supporter of their entire family in Gaza & moved to & have been living in Europe ALONE since the age of 16? Idk that kinda doesn't seem that plausible to me.
They've backdated their blog, and tried to use posts with thousands of notes to make it harder to find that out lol 馃毄馃毄馃毄according to the screenshots below, they backdated their blog (& in particular, this post) to look like it reblogged a post on February 17th, 2024. But once I looked in the notes, I very quickly found it in the most recent notes that it was ACTUALLY reblogged YESTERDAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image description: two vertically stacked screenshots with a blue water filter over them. The first shows a screenshots of a reblog by the user shtunning, showing a falsified reblog date of February 17th 2024. The second shows the real date within the notes of this post that they had reblogged, dated to "1 day ago", April 17th, 2024. End image description.]
And as another thing, they're claiming to be Palestinian, but using language an actual Palestinian who has lived in Palestine would never use lol, such as "revive peace between us". There was no "peace" in Gaza before this, Gaza is an open air prison under a settler colonial occupation and has been bombed regularly for decades?
Tumblr media
So yeah this is definitely a scammer lol

Scammers pretending to be Palestinian quick list from main list. As with before, I鈥檒l add the names they鈥檙e using since they are often reused across accounts. These names are often stolen off real people.

My favorite type of scam is where someone makes an account impersonating a famous person on social media, and then just goes into DMs and asks for money while also saying a "catchphrase" in a weird attempt to make themselves look legit

How to spot a (heart wrenching sad cat) Charity Scam
So I've been get a lot of requests for money in my askbox lately, from users I have never seen before! Usually sad cats, sometimes gender affirming medical bills, a queer person being made homeless etc etc... and guess what? None of them are real! It's scammers who have learned how to work tumblr's userbase and prey on our general sense of community and charity.
Tumblr media
Here it is, so sad! So tragic! But let's note a few things:
It's generic. They don't know me, I don't know them. it's addressed to 'friend', no use of nicknames or usernames.
Even the cat and the problem are generic 'little kitty' who has 'urgent needs'. This is not how real people talk, this is because this scam is being used over and over with different accounts a different 'cats'.
Praying (uh huh.)
Asking you to reply privately- This is so people don't spot the scam and point it out the mark and because if too many people posted replies to the same message it would beome really obvious that this is a scam. If they're looking for 'boosts' so badly, then why do they need you to reply privately?
Now that I'm suspicious, let's investigate.
Tumblr media
Sent me an ask and then followed me! Sounds like they're just hitting up anyone and everyone, but even more likely they have a list they're working from.
(I get so many, I'm probably on a mail-out list a mile long, just being hit up for cash. Likely I fell for one of these once and got my name added to every scam list for miles, but oh well.)
So let's see if they're a bot or a real person!
Tumblr media
The blog looks genuine enough, they've got a bio, a fandom etc. And it says they're an artist!
And of course there's that sad cat post, pinned right to the top, so I don't have to look any further through the blog for verification... Looks super legit, pics of the cat, pics of the bill... of course anyone can print out a bill and take a picture of it...
As I do scroll futher, it's full of reblogs making this look like an active user. So how can I tell it's not genuine?
Well, if they're an artist they probably post right? Doodles? Pictures? Let's have a look at their origional posts.
The fastest way to do this is by using an outside tool like Original Post Finder.
Tumblr media
just type in the suspicious username and go...
Tumblr media
Voila! As suspected, the only post this bot account has ever made is Sad Cat Post.
Confirmed: Scam. Do not give your money to these guys, it looks so real but they're just here to make you feel like a bad person for not handing over everything you can. Charity is wonderful, supporting friends is wonderful, but tbh save it for people you actually know irl/ mutuals you have an actual relationship with. Don't believe any rando who comes knocking!
Love and kisses, stay safe out there.

Some tips and tricks on how to spot scam accounts in general. This isn鈥檛 a detailed explanation as I have more info on my other blog but here is some general things to go by and what to look out for overall.
The pinned post is only a few days old or even a few hours old. The text may occasionally be multicolored for the link.
The ask they sent you seems catered to a specific issue or event and looks very odd if you read it throughly. Text might seem out of place or make no sense at all by a health standpoint.
They sent you an ask after following you and have no prior interactions and isn鈥檛 someone you鈥檝e met before. This is usually prompted when interacting with a trending post or sharing a post related to certain topics.
The blog doesn鈥檛 have very many posts. It鈥檚 usually limited to a few posts from a trending tag, a popular topic, or catered to pass at a simple glance if you don鈥檛 scroll far enough down. Most posts are made the same time as the pinned and shared seconds apart.
Even if your bio says no aid asks, the account will send you one anyway because they don鈥檛 read or don鈥檛 care they just want your money and will keep spamming asks until you share the post or block them.
Sometimes the same ask is sent from multiple accounts all using the same story and setting as the account that sent it to you at a different time. Any errors in the text don鈥檛 get fixed and it鈥檚 usually a quick way it鈥檚 a scam.
The accounts usually base their blogs overall theme around whatever is going on at that moment more often then anything else.
Sometimes the ask is about sharing their pet aid post. Any images used may be stolen off somewhere else so it鈥檚 advised to ask them questions back and see what they can tell you and if it matches.
On occasion they鈥檒l say to answer privately because they don鈥檛 want anyone else to see the ask.
In general, most strangers asking you for money in your inbox found you from searching tags and you need to check and ensure their being honest as scammers unfortunately exist. Not everyone asking for money is a scammer! Just do your research.

Hey guys, it's time for an Internet Safety lesson!
Tumblr media
It's been a while since I got one of these messages. It helps that they all use pretty much the same script though!
This is a scam.
Please try to remember how this looks - learning to recognize these patterns is an important tool that will help us later.
This ask is not addressing you by name or directly referencing anything personal - it's meant to be sent out to 100s of accounts and thus must sound generic.
This account has no posts that are older than 23 hours.
The user is requesting payments through paypal, asking to mark it as friend or family, because if you ask for your money back, you will not be able to dispute it as a fraud donation.
The user is stressing keeping this donation drive private because many people recognize this scam and will speak out against it.
If you're worried, please search the #tumblr scam page and feast your eyes upon many other cats in eerily identical medical situations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Always remember to verify donation drives before you give away money. A person who is actually in need will understand your need to double-check details before donating.

January 24 2024 Scam Alert:
There's a new phishing email making the rounds that looks like an authentic message from Google, warning you that unless you take action your Gmail account will be closed and all your messages deleted. All you have to do is click the link to confirm or deny the action.
It is, of course, fake. It collects your password "for verification" then hijacks your account.
Don't click any link in an email no matter how official it looks. Instead, go to your Gmail dashboard directly. If there is indeed any risk Google wants to delete your account, you'll be notified there.

I did not just find an Etsy store using AI fucking photos to sell amigurumi patterns
What bullshit is this??!??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please ignore my tabs I need those but THERE IS NO WAY this isn't AI. Here. Let's take the worst one I found and dissect it.
Tumblr media
Like,,, okay. Just try following the line of yarn in front of the poke ball. It splits off and attaches in ways that yarn doesn't. There are completely detached circles of yarn!! What even is that metal thing?? I've been knitting and crocheting for a decade and I don't know what that is. Why is the yarn wrapped around a jar?!
Is there anything I can do about this? I just feel bad for whoever is gonna buy that sonic the hedgehog pattern (which was NEARLY ME) and gets totally ripped off. Bc if you have to use AI to sell your pattern, something tells me that the real pictures of the pattern's results aren't going to look right.

Latest account ran by the scammer stealing fundraiser text: sweatytimemachinepost
Name listed as: Rawan Abu'M
Likely another attempt at impersonating the real person who runs a GoFundMe. This account is not them, is not associated with them, and isn鈥檛 running the real fundraiser that can be found by searching the text of their ask. They are targeting accounts who share popular Palestine posts.
Do not donate to this user. Please report them and their PayPal account screenshotted below:

Sharing this here, because that's where i saw people sharing about this "free link to click" -> PLEASE STOP CLICKING IT AND SHARINGIT. IT'S A SCAM, AS SAID BY THE UNRWA ITSELF (see photo of the screenshoted mails here)
Tumblr media
(For reference, the UNRWA is the organisation where this free link site said the money was going!)
PLEASE SHARE AND RB
(if you have any questions, please use the comments so i can answer in one place)
Edit: the "/fr/" in the url is because of the language settings (french being my native language). It's not a different website... There's only one. (please look how urls work if you're not sure 馃ゲ /nm)
Edit 2: so i found out that people were reblogging a rb that called me a liar out of nowhere, and claiming the screenshots are fake...
Here's my last reblog on the subject, in which i posted all the emails one by one.
As i said in the last comments, i'm personally gonna take unrwa's word as is, and not click or share that shitty link anymore. Better safe than sorry. You do you. But whatever you do, i DO NOT appreciate being called a liar behind my back and people getting misinformations on the issue. I'm an honest person. I don't know what more i can do here, but i've done all what i could. Peace out. Bye.

PLEASE REBLOG TO SPREAD AWARENESS: NEW DISCORD SCAM
Tumblr media
THIS MESSAGE WILL GET SENT WITH A FAKE EMAIL. THE SCAMMER IS A REAL PERSON WHO IS IMPERSONATING CHAO CHEN.
They will tell you you have charges for illegal purchases and fraud from multiple people and your account will be deleted in 12 hours. There will be no suspicious links or bot behavior. The biggest signs are a change in how they talk and a screenshot of an email you did not receive.
They will ask you to call and screenshare while they walk you through the steps of giving them your discord contact information, bank details, and enormous sums of money claiming they'll be refunded through "Discord insurance".
If you message another person about it they'll tell you doing so is illegal and against Discord's ToS. It's not. They are lying.
Do not give them any information. It is a scam. Don't panic. Just block and report. This is the profile to look out for, they are using Chao Chen's linkedin's profile picture.
