I feel like people are forgetting that the SAG AFTRA strikes were not JUST about getting better pay for actors and writers. Another very big benefit of the strikes, that is more overlooked than people care to admit, is protection against AI.

The reason why people overlook the damage that AI does to actors (including voice actors) and writers (as well as many others) is because people just aren't educated enough on it and this is because it is being advertised to be this amazing, technological advancement that will save the economy when it's actually the complete opposite. AI is damaging the economy because it is putting so many people out of jobs. Not to mention the fact that strikes are usually concentrated around getting better pay for people, so when uneducated people hear about the SAG AFTRA strikes, they tend to assume that it's because the actors/writers that are striking are just asking for more money (which they ARE doing and which they have the right to do because the pay they get stinks) and so avoid the other, equally important factors.

There are so many cases where I've seen AI being advertised/used in a "positive" way recently. This included a boy from my college mentioning how he couldn't be bothered to do the homework that had been set, so he just used AI to write his homework for him. Are we really seriously going to allow this to happen? Are we seriously going to allow young people to neglect their education and use AI to fake work for them, getting them target/expected grades that are much higher than what they're actually going to get, giving them false hope?

Another example from what I've seen includes an ad on TV for a new phone that used AI with the camera, and boy did this ad piss me off. Part of the ad sees a group of teens taking a picture, in which they are all frowning, with this phone. They then use the AI included with the camera to edit the picture so that they are all smiling. Why? Was it not easy enough to ACTUALLY smile? If not, was it because they genuinely aren't happy? And if that's the case, should we really be sending a message to TEENAGERS to just hide the fact that they aren't happy and fake a smile instead? Use AI to cover up the fact that you're struggling? No. No we should not.

I know a lot of people reading this probably think I'm reaching or overreacting, but AI does genuinely have a long term effect in these cases.

But I think the most common, most damaging example of people using AI that I've seen is from social media, specifically TikTok but other platforms as well. And this is the use of AI voice filters.

The SAG AFTRA strikes have worked hard to benift actors of all kinds, including voice actors, and the reason I'm drawing so much attention to this fact is because people just aren't getting it into their heads how DAMAGING AI voice filters are for voice actors. Several voice actors have already lost their jobs from being replaced by AI that can replicate THEIR voices, the voices that form part (the most important part) of their identity. Not to mention how damaging it can be for voice actors' dignity to hear their own voice coming from something else, especially considering how this "something else" can replicate within MINUTES what they had to perfect for YEARS. Voice actors put so much effort into getting their voices to be perfect for the role that they're playing, yet AI undermines that effort by imitating those "perfect voices" within minutes. Voice actors actually care about their roles/characters and the fans that love these characters. AI does not. All it does is copy. Yet companies would rather have heartless machines working for them than real life people who actually care about bringing characters to life for fans.

And you wanna know what the worst part is?

Apparently, those "fans" would rather hear AI voicing their favourite characters too.

Because it is YOU (the fans) who create, use and/or like AI voice filters on TikTok/Twitter/Tumblr. It is YOU who cannot accept the fact that your favourite character's VA didn't say the crappy line you came up with at 2am that you commented to them on Twitter, so instead used AI to make the character say it yourself because OBVIOUSLY you're gonna drop dead if you DON'T hear them say that line. Obviously, you can't go on with your life without causing a completely innocent and good person to lose their job AND their dignity for your own entertainment.

Another VERY big issue with AI voice filters is that the majority of voice actors whose voices I have heard being used with AI have specifically said that they do NOT support AI and do NOT wish for people to use AI to replicate their voice. Obviously, some people may not know this, but others do and they choose to ignore it. This does not just go for the people who create the filters. It goes for the people who use and/or show support for it too (such as liking videos that use a filter, etc. ) because you are spreading the use of AI and making companies more aware of it and how easy it is to use, and are therefore causing actors to be replaced. How would you feel if you heard your own voice being used by strangers without your consent for their own entertainment?

So for that reason, I am going to say what most people are just too scared to say:

Fans are just as responsible for the SAG AFTRA strikes for using AI as the companies that have been treating actors/writers like shit for years.

If you have EVER created/used/liked/reblogged/reposted/shared/etc. a video that uses an AI voice filter, please please please PLEASE go back and delete/unlike the video, and NEVER do it again. Do NOT interact with videos using AI voice filters AT ALL. If you get a video on your TikTok fyp, it's not that hard to just scroll past and ignore. If you're still not sure what kind of videos I'm referring to, a good example of a popular AI voice filter that I've seen recently that people need to STOP using is a filter of Luz Noceda (voiced by Sarah-Nicole Robles, who has specifically NOT given consent for AI replications of her voice to be used) and Hunter Whittebane (voiced by Zeno Robinson, who has also specifically NOT given consent for AI replications of his voice to be used) from The Owl House singing She Wolf by Shakira. If you have EVER interacted with this filter, please go back and undo however you interacted with it and spread this message to others.

I'd like to end this "rant post" by saying that I am NOT in anyway an actor/voice actor, but I am an aspiring writer. I remember one day earlier this year seeing something on the news about how companies were considering replacing human writers with AI and how in a certain amount of years, human writers may not even be needed anymore, and this scared the shit out of me because writing has ALWAYS been my dream and I thought my future was over before it had even began.

So in conclusion, PLEASE spread awareness of how damaging AI can be (for actors, voice actors, writers, etc.) and PLEASE make sure to NOT interact with it when you see it being used, unless you are asking another person to stop creating/using/interacting with it. And if you see a VA asking for people to NOT use AI to replicate their voice, just do the bare fucking minimum and respect their wishes. Your life isn't over just because you didn't get to hear Luz and Hunter singing She Wolf. Put the livelivoods of other people before your own entertainment. Thank you.

I BELIEVE this little guide I put together over here might be helpful to you, also! I touched on pretty much everything you brought up.

As for reference material when it comes to facial expressions, I have a mirror next to my desk which I glance at often and make weird faces at LOL and for consistency, it's really a matter of learning to dissect and remember facial structure. It's just something you end up developing an eye for when you've done it for long enough! Naturally, if we're talking about drawing existing characters, it's always helpful to just look at some pictures of their mugs and take a minute to define what features about them make their faces recognizable - I touch on this at the link above as well!

I do plan on making a "drowstarion" (love that, by the way LOL) playlist eventually, life's just been kicking my ass and I hardly have the time 😭and when I do, I just wanna draw.

Thank you! I believe this was in reference to this post. Something like that takes me about... An hour??? If we're talking just the colors, at least. Though that's a really rough estimate because I take a lot of breaks, so my sense of time when I work ends up pretty skewed. Even if the application of the colors themselves took less than 20 minutes I probably spent 2 hours just staring at it LOL.

My friend, I have no idea. I'm in a constant battle between "I want to draw more realistically" and "I want to simplify my art so I can draw more/faster". What you see is the result of that ongoing brain-tug-of-war.

Also, just the way I assume everyone else develops theirs - they see stuff they like and emulate it until their art is Frankensteinish enough to be it's own unique thing!

Alas, I was one of those people who was already drawing in kindergarten 😅 though I would say I only started taking it seriously when I was around 15-16 years old. As someone who has tried their hand at several other hobbies since reaching adulthood, I get what you're saying that it can kinda feel like... You missed the wagon? I've felt that way about all kind of things lol

That said, I've seen adults managing to develop their art skills extremely fast and effectively before. Understanding where and how you need to improve, and how to follow lessons/guides best is something that is vastly improved by maturity and knowing how to best hone your time, attention, and resources - and those are skills we completely lack as children. So, I sincerely believe that as long as you commit yourself, you can definitely get to a point that you're happy with in a couple of years if not less.

JUST DO IT BUDDY we are all just people looking through a screen and you won't ever see, talk, or meet 99% of the folks who ever clap eyes on what you post. Whenever you start getting nervous about sharing something, take a minute to ask yourself why you're nervous, and if none of the reasons have any genuine substance besides being afraid of what people "might think", just go ahead and post it. You're no mind-reader after all, and if you are, I doubt you can hear what a guy from Argentina or wherever is thinking about the art you made.

Point is, nobody online can touch you 🤷and if someone doesn't like what you do, they can simply choose to not interact with it, and if they do you can block and move on. There are zero reasons for you to feel "bad" about putting up a doodle when our experiences on the web are so easily curated nowadays.

Hey! I'm currently writing a fic rn, and I thought I'd ask you about a few things, just for help..

So, number one, how do you depict your characters so well? And I mean that as in how do you make them seem so real and almost exactly like the show? I'd love to know

Secondly, what's your best advice for making things flow together and sound smooth? Instead of choppy bits and 5 different events happening at once?

Ok well, when it comes to writing for specific characters, I don't know what else to say than consume all the media. A lot of little ideas and details I use were inspired by comics or other fics that I've read. If I'm in the middle of writing and I get stuck I literally just scroll through hazbin content on here. And for dialogue, when I rewatch the show I try to keep in mind how characters talk to eachother and (in Lucifer's case) little reactions that you might not notice unless you're purposely looking for it.

Another thing I do is try to write like little bios about characters (kind of that practice makes perfect idea) but it's great to have those little choppy bits if it helps you get a feel of the character more! For the reader, I actually just try to base it off my little oc I made when I first started writing. Mentally, it helps me keep track of what kind of character the reader is from fic to fic. That all takes some time to develop but I really think it helped me in the long run. And for Lucifer, I have a pretty structured idea about what kind of person he is and what his relationship with Lillith was like, and I make sure that doesn't change between each fic. Technically that does limit me to Lucifer fics but ngl I'm not mad about that

When it comes to flow, my stories actually do start out as a bunch of choppy blurbs! I'll like write down in my notes intrusive thoughts throughout the day and try to connect it with details that'll just make it flow more. For the Demon Barber, I wanted to play with the relationship between a demon who's known Lucifer since he was with Lillith. And I had another blurb about touch starved lucifer who loves being pampered by some kind of cosmetic reader. So I combined it, even if it's the smallest details, it really fleshes it out. Once you get a super vague idea of what you want, it's easier to come up with those little blurbs. It's literally how I start all my fics, so you're definitely already in a good spot already if you have some little ideas you wanna expand on.

Some little, unrelated, tips: When I wanna write a big story I use my laptop and for some reason that puts me in a mindset for better writing. Keep an eye out for repeating phrases and google synonyms if that's the case! And honestly rereading it over and over again really helps. Like even the really small details, trying to connect A to B can literally be as easy as adding a sentence or a dialogue.

I hope any of this helps and it didn't just come out as a bunch of gibberish! I'm seriously so glad you like my stories, and I'm super excited to see what you come up with!

Hi, I just wanna share that I ship Ashley and Leon since the original RE, and I ship them even more now more than ever. I just wanted to say that I’m glad that I saw your blog. You defend them from hate comments. I could never do that. All I do is hide the fact that I ship them because people online (and IRL) can really be mean when I say that they have a good potential together.

I just think that their relationship can be wholesome and built on trust. It is without ill intention and born out of care & adoration. Which I think are the some of the foundations of having a healthy relationship, that’s why I love the idea of them together. I know this may be cliche to say this, but I think they can complete each other in some ways.

Is it wrong to want a potentially healthy relationship for Leon? I don’t get why people hate on the idea of it so much. I mean people can not ship it, and that’s fine. I just don’t get it when others start attacking because I mention that I ship them. It’s like I feel like I’m about to get executed whenever I say that they have a chemistry together 😆

Also, I apologize for talking so much about them. I just have no one to talk to when it comes to them. I just wanna share it to someone.

Lastly, I wanna say that you make deep analysis on not just their relationship and dynamics, but also on other lores on the RE franchise which I enjoy reading. It really gives a lot of new perspectives & insights on a lot of things that I don’t notice when I play the game. Thank you for this, really!

I also went through a period of very many years where I wouldn't say out loud that I shipped Leon and Ashley, because there was a stretch of a very long time in fandom where you got tarred and feathered if you dared have a Leon ship that wasn't Cleon or Aeon. Even shipping him with Chris was considered taboo back in the day (and, wouldn't you know, I do that, too).

And I was scared that people wouldn't take my (completely unrelated, mind you!!) meta seriously if they knew I shipped Leon/Ashley, so I just kept quiet about it. I even tried to pass it off, for a while, that I had no RE ships at all. It was just easier to say that than be dodgy about it.

It was actually kind of funny. For a while, a not-insignificant portion of the fandom went to me, specifically, for all of their Leon things, and I just had to kind of laugh at how ridiculous it was that these same people would've just stopped agreeing with anything I said about him -- things that they agreed with and had been relying on for their own interpretations -- if they'd known I shipped him with Ashley. It's all very, very stupid.

But now I'm in my 30s and I don't give a fucking shit anymore. I don't care about being an authority on canon anymore. I'm happy to be a reference if someone needs it, but I don't care about being the central hub of information. I don't need to try to make people feel impartially about me anymore.

But, authority or not, I'm still a story analyst at heart before anything else. I look at Leon's character first and then think about any possible ships second. And, yeah. After analyzing him for so long, I've noticed that Ashley brings out a side of him that isn't shown at any other point -- and it's in a positive way that's absent when she's gone. So, naturally and logically, in my head, it stands to reason that there's something to that.

Some people seem to be under the impression that Leon's character arc lives and dies by Ada's involvement, and boy is that just not the case. There's a lot of different moving parts when it comes to Leon's character arc, but he's primarily defined by the striking lack of agency he has, despite being one of the main characters of the series. Ada perpetuates and exacerbates that helplessness, but it would still exist without her. In Leon's own words: "nothing ever changes" and THAT is what's at the center of his character arc.

But even beyond that, Leon is a character who needs to be needed; it's something that's shown over and over and over and over again. So, as much as people like the idea of a "partners" type ship (like Chris/Jill) and so they ship him with Claire -- or as much as people like the whole cat-and-mouse will-they-won't-they thing that Leon has going on with Ada -- neither Claire nor Ada need Leon, so it would never really work in the long-term.

And as much as Leon doesn't want Ashley to need him... he still needs her to. Because he doesn't realize that Ashley can both need him emotionally because that's what romance is you fucking stupid idiot, Leon -- and also be her own independent person living her life to the fullest at the same time.

And you know what? I like queen/knight ships, and that's exactly what Leon and Ashley are. So I just embrace it.

This isn't to discount other people's tastes or ship preferences. Ship whatever the hell yall want. But Leon/Ashley has always existed, will always exist, and it's just as valid as any other ship. Thankfully, the remake seems to have made it more "acceptable" -- which really just tells me that the only reason why we Leon/Ashley folks were blacklisted for so long is because the vast majority of the fandom was just bad at RE4 and took out their impotent gamer rage on Ashley, as though it was her fault they sucked at the game. (If you got annoyed at Ashley screaming for help in OG -- or in remake, even -- it's because you let her get grabbed. It's player error.)

Tagged by @pertinax--loculos. Before I begin I just wanna say...Pockets...this BFF-ship is not one-sided. You're super cool and I always love seeing you on my dash and I miss reading about your stories (haven't heard about ATN in a minute D: I know it's in the 'second draft/editing' graveyard so I get it). My only disappointment is that we evidently live in different time zones so we're never active at the same time :'(. But yeah just had to clear that up. So EHEM, onto the tag!

What motivates you to write?

Oof. I've been trying to remind myself of the answer to this because your girl seems to keep forgetting. I think @pertinax--loculos put it beautifully: 'I write for the same reason I breathe. Because if I didn't, I would die'. I don't think I'm necessarily motivated to do it at this point, it's just that I'm incapable of NOT doing it. Which inevitably makes it difficult when I find myself in a slump and desperate to give up because I can't produce anything I deem "good enough". I know despite my frustrations I will keep trying to produce something because giving up is evidently not an option. In the past though, I think I was motivated by the prospects of other people eventually reading my work and wanting to give those imaginary future people the same feelings/experiences my favorite authors have given me when I read my favorite book. But as it's gotten harder and harder to get eyes on my work, that's stopped being a motivator for me (which is probably for the best).

A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud of/happy with. If not, maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them):

Can you believe it took me SO long to find an answer for this LOL. I think I'm mostly proud of how scenes I've written turned out, not necessarily specific lines. But I'll go with this one, because it stuck with me the most after I wrote it:

Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them, and what are they like?

Hands down, it's Vince. Like, I love that boy. I can think about him in relation to almost everyone in my cast of characters and I smile even harder. But I think the relationship that I love the most in my story is the one he has with Cami. It's just so...wholesome and pure and playful and loving. Like the two of them truly come to care for each other so much, in a way that almost transcends any kind of relationship (their relationship is fully platonic btw). But Vince is just a lovable idiot. He is the resident himbo. He doesn't take life or himself too seriously which makes him easy to get along with. But he also has such an incredibly big heart and is actually quite sensitive once you get to know him. But the care, respect and admiration he grows to have for Cami over the course of the story is just so beautiful to watch and is one of the parts of my story I look forward to writing/developing the most. I could ramble on and say more but I will reign myself in.

What process of writing do you enjoy the most?

I know this is an uncommon answer but...editing. Blank pages intimidate me. I hate coming up with words on the spot with nothing to build off of. But I love coming back to a chapter I've written, opening up a blank doc beside it and rewriting the chapter with stronger language/words/prose/dialogue etc. I'm often able to flex my writing chops when re-writing or editing a chapter rather than just writing it from scratch. The right words just come to me a lot easier and I can phrase things more eloquently than before. I know this is not what true true editing is...come back and ask me again in 6 months when I have to edit the completed second draft of my story and I'm writhing in agony.

What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

Dialogue. Dialogue. Dialogue. I struggle with writing an engaging narrative voice/exposition. Can't worldbuild for my life. Descriptions scare me. But ask me to write a compelling, emotional, humorous, realistic conversation between two characters and I will hit the ground running.

What is something in the writeblr community that is most enjoyable?

I think Pockets also had a good answer for this that I agree with - people never forget you. You can be gone for 4 weeks, 4 months, or 4 years, but the minute you log back on and make a post, people will welcome you back into the community with open arms like you never left. And you realize just how much of a place you actually had in the community whereas often when you're in it on the day to day it can feel like you're shouting into the void and no one's listening. But people are listening and lurking and liking your posts, they just may be too shy to approach you or prefer to be in the shadows. But I can think of like at least 5 writeblrs who I've thought about in the last month and wondered where they went off to because I haven't seen them on my dash for months. Despite my qualms with writeblr at times, there is a semblance of a community here that I don't think many other platforms have or can replicate.

A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)

Scrivener. Literally Scrivener. I would not be able to do anything if I didn't have Scrivener. Scrivener is my life. It literally has everything a writer could need and more. When I tell you that everyday I'm discovering a new feature on this shit as if I'm using it for the first time rather than the mf 10 years I've had it. It legit has everything. “But what about —?” Yes. The answer is yes, it can do that, too. And I'm so grateful for it. And it's a ONE TIME purchase which is such a steal. It provides you so much and asks so little in return.

A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law, etc)

I feel this way about a lot of peoples' interpretations of the League and their interactions. Not just Spinner and Shigaraki, but all of them. I feel like a lot of gestures get blown way out of proportion. Shigaraki's "I just want them to be able to live how they see fit" does not equal "Their happiness is my priority, and I'm going to work to create a world where they can be happy". I'm sorry but those two are not the same thing, and I haven't seen Shigaraki act in such a way either. Those two goals may point in the same direction (they don't because he's a fucking liar to his own face and so is Toga to her own face), but that kind sentiment did not suddenly mean that he is prioritizing their happiness and wellbeing above all else. If that was the case, well, they wouldn't have formed a giant ass army to take on the world at war and risk dying (which one of them did) and Spinner wouldn't be in the situation he is in now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

I don't want to rain on people's parades either, but my opinions are pretty clear and have been for a while and people have had plenty of time to block/unfollow me as they see necessary. So at this point, I don't hold back (I try very hard to avoid being super negative though about any character in general). I used to hold back my not so popular (in the villain corner of the fandom) interpretations on the League up until recently. As we've gotten closer to the end, I've decided that I'm just gonna put my opinion out into the void even if many people--specifically in the little circle of blogs I occupy--don't like it. And many don't, and that's okay. My opinion doesn't change unless the manga gives me a reason to change it.

Spinner and Shigaraki--I have a lot of issues here, MAJORITY of it due to fandom hyping them up as more than they are. And look, I don't care when stuff is clearly fanon or headcanons. Posts that are meant to be taken that way are usually pretty clear about it. But these are whole analyses based off of this overblown bond/friendship that literally only Spinner seems to acknowledge/be so attached to.

I don't doubt Shigaraki views everyone in the League as a friend in some capacity. I don't doubt that at all. I don't doubt that he cares and genuinely wants them to live how they want. However, I would like for someone to show me where he pays the same type of special attention to Spinner that Spinner gives to him. Imo, Shigaraki treats them all pretty equally--Spinner included.

I didn't know that about the Japanese, and yet, I still felt this way. Assuming that someone who has a good understanding of Japanese can correct your statement, I'm gonna take your word for it since I can't say shit otherwise lol. But cool--yeah that particular line is used quite a bit. And I get it! It's fun especially if you ship the characters or just enjoy their interactions.

But I feel like people overlook the fact that Spinner's idolization and attachment is literally negative and is a challenge in his arc, not some cute uwu friendship that was just about video games (when would they have played video games in canon??? WHEN????).

Spinner decided to seriously devote himself to Shigaraki (which in itself is a weird not great thing to do) during MVA, because it looked as if Shigaraki had made progress and overcome a barrier and become this all powerful destructive god who can make dreams come true (dreams for someone who wants to lash out at least). But MVA was not any of that. MVA was Shigaraki doing exactly what AFO wanted him to do--get worse emotionally, spiral more mentally and become even more unstable, and hate himself to the point that he sees no point in thinking or hoping for change for the better. Perfect, all according to keikaku. And THAT is when Spinner was like "FUCK YEAH THIS GUY". I know Spin didn't know that, but come oN guys THE TIMING OF IT IS SO FORETELLING.

AND IT WAS. Because look now. What has turned me completely off to this dynamic is the fandom hyping it up as a pure devotion that isn't stemming from a lot of self-worth issues and negative idealization. Spinner associates Shigaraki with destruction, rage, anger, and misery. That's also what Shigaraki associates himself with, and that's exactly what AFO wants. And man, he sure got it out of both of them.

And I'd like it if people acknowledged that more for what it is, but it's just reduced down to "two gamers that AFO groomed and took advantage of". And I feel that is just super oversimplifying what actually happened. AFO didn't groom Spinner from the age of 5, he took advantage of a vulnerability he was able to pinpoint super quickly after Spinner made it painfully obvious.

I like Spinner more on his own, and I like the potential for him to face the reality that him ignoring his gut instincts in favor of that dream of destruction he associates with Shigaraki eventually led to him making things worse for Shigaraki--unintentionally. I mean he hasn't made shit hit the fan YET--but man if things aren't looking ominous as fuck right now. AFO is counting on Spinner? Oof. But the potential for drama here is exciting, and I'm ready for it.

But yeah. I agree--it's overblown imo. It has become a plot point in Shigaraki's arc in a negative way. So I feel people miss the mark when they focus on how devoted Spinner is to Shigaraki during all of this mess, because that's exactly why things look the way they do lol.

I am always happy to chat about ideas but I definitely hesitate about using them for my own writing. Which is a little funny because I have no problem at all with people using anything I talk about for ideas to write their own stuff lol! But I have so many ideas that I don’t even have time to write them all. I know sometimes people get an idea that really takes hold and they want to write it themselves but don’t think they can for some reason, so they just talk about it instead. And in that case, I will always encourage people to write their ideas! This has happened to me multiple times irl because when people find out you write, they hesitatingly tell you about an idea and then come up with a million reasons why they can’t write it.

But I know sometimes people just wanna chat about their ideas even if they have no intention of writing it themselves! And that’s okay too! I just like to make sure before I do anything with it because I will always encourage people to write!

I also have opinions about whether or not people can call themselves writers lol. But based on what you’ve told me, I would say you are definitely a writer, anon! Of course I feel that people can use whatever words they like to define themselves, but I think a lot of people feel they can’t call themselves a writer when they definitely can. I’ve been writing for a long time and as far as I’m concerned, if you write that makes you a writer! Writing occasionally as a hobby still counts in my opinion!

Im not super engaged with fandom so I'm not sure what opinions are popular and what opinions aren't but one thing about the db fandom that sticks out to me is that people tend to say x character has become a joke and x character is mischaracterized more than all else, to which I understand the frustration but I think ignores the fact that ever since Super has been released there hasn't been a single character that hasn't been brutally mischaracterized recently except for like.... Jaco of all characters. There's weirdly a lot of unnecessary division in this fandom. I'm answering this vaguely on purpose cuz I don't wanna get caught up on it. Ummm a more specific opinion is that I think Satoko Houjou is a well written character and everything that she does in SotsuGou is in character for her. Thanks

Ok, seen a lot of people say that movie eggman is 90% Jim Carrey and 10% eggman, a while I haven't heard anyone say that it's explicitly a bad thing, I wanna go a step further and say that he's one of the best eggmans in recent memory.

Since sth2 is still new, I want to use an example from the first movie to say why. So there won't really be spoilers, don't worry.

I think the problem with eggman in the 'modern' era, (which is hopefully behind us, with Flynn at a helm) can be summed up with this quote from Sonic boom; "sometimes you forget he's a doctor!"

Of course, Sonic boom was a satirical show in general, and 'boom' eggman wasn't meant to be taken seriously in the first place. The problem is that you can put him side by side with 'modern' eggman and most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The problem is that 'modern' eggman isn't treated like a serious threat in the first place.

I want to clarify that the problem isn't just that 'modern' eggman is comedic, but that the comedy undermines our ability to see him as a legitimate threat. 'Adventure' eggman has long since proven that comedic eggman can be threatening too. The problem is that it's entirely 'Tell don't show'. Anytime 'modern' eggman is on screen, he will be nothing but a joke, And we have to leave it to the other characters to tell us how bad he is, and what his apparently 300 IQ mind is capable of.

I mean I know it's beating a dead horse oc into the ground at this point, but Sonic forces had said he tortured Sonic for 6 months, takes over the vast majority of the world in that time, made a doomsday device, AND LITERALLY NO ONE CARED. As soon as Sonic saw him again it was just more jokes, and with the power of black screens we never see him do anything to prove that he's smart enough be a serious threat to Sonic the hedgehog, forget the almighty boss slayers Cream and Cheese.

However, the is one scene in the Sonic the hedgehog movie that is confusingly given the exact same name as two entirely different sonic games that is not just hilarious, but also entirely convinces me that 'movie' eggman is smart enough to pose serious threat. And it looks like this:

No I'm not joking. For you see, this is, to my knowledge, the first time we see Dr. Ivo Robotnik doing SCIENCE. Experimenting, figuring out how the weird quill works, recording his findings- all to apply to his machines later in the film. And yes, having the time of his life while doing it.

Jelloapocalypse, in his hour long rant about the main cast of Scooby-doo (specifically about Velma), pointed out that a lot of scientists in media don't act at all like real scientists, treating it as a set of hard rules rather than being super excited about discovering a Weedle. Well I'm pretty happy to say that 'movie' eggman would be absolutely estatic to discover a new worm, and that's exactly why I can genuinely believe that he is a genius that can give Sonic the run-around.

Tldr; 'movie' eggman shows that he is actually a scientist, striking a great balance of goofy and threatening, and that honestly makes him the best eggman we've had in a while.

He finds himself digging the knife that was meant to kill you into the the skin of his own arm after making sure you were out of sight. He couldn't finish his job in the end, after all he put you and himslelf through.

Back at fatui headquarters, he reports back to the Tsaritsa. No one has questioned him about the stitches on his arm or anything regarding his mission. Except of course the one who gave him the mission.

Scaramouche knows better than to lie to the Tsaritsa. So, he ends up confessing that he failed to complete his job. And also that he had fallen in love despite the strictly specific instructions to not. Also apologizes for having claimed he was incapable of regular emotions such as those before taking on the task.

He gets dismissed and gets asked to wait for her excellency's decision regarding his future as a fatui harbinger for failing a task that could've led them alot closer to their goal altogether.

During the unendurable wait, he also faces the unbearable heartache of knowing that all he ever did to the one he loved was use them, give them a fake relationship and fake happiness and hurt them. How could he live with himself knowing that? Even though he didn't have a choice in his forever continued existence, which he knew he didn't and never would, he really really just wanted to make himself hurt more than he hurt you.

He stares at his arm for a long moment. And it hits him. Even if he is unable to die, he can still feel pain.

Reaching for the nearest blade, he begins to recount and regret—

"Harbingers." The Tsaritsa calls out, as all eleven of them assemble in front of her in a flash and bow down in perfect coordination.

She holds her chin up as she proposes this new task which as she puts it is top secret and of the utmost important.

"This assignment is associated with the rumoured archon's child in Sumeru. Remember, this is an undercover mission, thereby forbidding you to ever reveal your identity as a fatui harbinger at any given point in the duration this year long mission." Making sure to accentuate her point regarding the seriousness, with just the surface level details, she takes a quick glace at the assembled group before continuing. "Be warned. The ploy is to extract any and all information about the whereabouts on the dendro gnosis and of course if at all possible given your status or position acquiring the gnosis itself, and then eliminating the informant." She pressed on the last part.

The tension in the throne room rose significantly, as looks were exchanged. But nobody expected the Tsaritsa to say what she said next.

"For this particular informant to become trustworthy— and let me be clear about this, you are required to use romance to soften them up. For this reason, only a person who can forgo of their own emotion can be the candidate for the job." With that in mind the duration of the mission starts to sound a lot more intimidating. The Tsaritsa patiently waits for them to process it.

In the matter of a few seconds, two rising figures are seen. She raises her brows in curiosity, she certainly didn't expect volunteers.

The figures that rose to the challenge were none other than Signora and Scaramouche, while the rest remain in their respectful stance.

Scaramouche boldly steps forward with a smug expression on his face. As Signora watches this she suddenly decides back down.

—Oh how he wished she hadn't. Because it ended up with him here. On the verge draining all the blood from his arm.

After a few hours of waiting in agony he heard footsteps as he hurriedly covered his arm and hid the blade.

"...T-the Ts-sarits-s-sa will see-e y-you n-ow." The quite anxious agent said through the door.

"I'll be there in a minute." Scaramouche replied trying his best to hide the tremble in his voice.

Walking back to the throne room after cleaning up his arm and hiding the wounds. As he nears it he begins to have this growing feeling of dread in his chest. He tries to reassure himself that its all in his head.

But when he finally reaches the throne his eyes immediately fall onto the corpse at the feet of her excellency's throne. There was no mistake.

He started in utter horror as his face pales and he feels a shiver go down his spine as he realises that the Tsaritsa is out of her seat. Behind him he feels a finger trace the length between his shoulders as her voice whispers in his ear "why don't you step forward and look at your now finished job." Her voice is like steel. She steps back as he moves forward at her command.

He drops down, his legs unable to support him any longer.

It was almost as if his heart stopped as he stares into your lifeless eyes.

"With...this out of the way, guess what? You can keep your position as a harbinger. Congratulations." The smugness in her tone was not even attempted to be hidden.

I'll pick something small that I don't think I've talked about before: Starscream's hired mercenaries!!!

In canon he hires a bunch of bounty hunters to track down mini-cons that he'd lost track of. I've done a LOT of research on them for my AU and I absolutely adore them!!

From left to right we've got: RoughEdge, Razorhorn, and Shadelock!!

RoughEdge is a former Autobot (his insignias are scratched out on his shoulders, and one of the showrunners said it's not bc of a political statement, but bc the long years of war scuffed them up a bit, and I think that is SO COOL). He also has a "vocal condition" which is never explained or touched on literally at all, so he doesn't speak (save for the occasional grunt/yell during combat), but 🥺🥺 I'm always soft for characters who have vocal and/or hearing conditions just like meee. He also has pretty yellow optics under his visor <3

Razorhorn is an Insecticon!! He doesn't have any lines... and his name was never mentioned in the show until one of the showrunners revealed it on his website... and that's... really all the info I have about him. I love him. I love his scary teef.

Shadelock is my favorite of the bounty hunters!! He used to be a Vehicon, but took charge of his own life after the war, AND I THINK THAT IS SO AWESOME. He does the most communication w/ Starscream since the other two mercenaries don't often speak. He's described as someone who is "completely fine with atrocious acts" (like murdering on sight ig) but he doesn't take pleasure in it like you'd expect, he just sees it as a job that he's gonna get paid for. He's really cool-headed and I loooove his design.

For my AU, Starscream hires them not just to find the mini-cons but also to find "a human with long hair and many spots on her skin" and he gives them one of the missing posters for them to look at. And they're just like... yeah ok the former SiC of the Decepticons is gonna pay us more than plenty to find mini-cons and some random human that happened to stop the war for two years and somehow capture the spark of literally everybody in their own faction, including the fucking leader of the Decepticons. Hm. That's fine. We love getting paid. Whatever he wants to do with mini-cons and one very specific human is none of our business.

And they keep bringing back humans who might look similar to Keri but they're obviously not her. One after another every few hours for several months they bring back a girl w/ long brown hair and he's like "this one doesn't have spots" and they try again and he hisses "this one doesn't have brown optics, are you not paying attention to my very clear instructions??"

(Plus I'm very weak for the idea of Starscream, at first, when being told "we found her!" getting all hopeful, walking forward with his hands out as a nonthreatening gesture, softening his voice and saying "Keri, darling, it's me, it's Starscream, your Starlight! you must recognize my voice, surely? I know I look different, but I promise I'm still--" but once he gets closer and studies her face and finds out that he isn't talking to Keri but just some girl who looks a little bit like her, then he immediately shouts "WAIT THIS ISN'T EVEN HER HOW CAN YOU MESS UP THIS BADLY. YOU, PATHETIC HUMAN, FORGET EVERYTHING I TOLD YOU -- NO I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO WITH THE FLESHY JUST GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT")

And the mercenaries are just CONFUSED CONSTANTLY, because HEY BOSS you told us to find a little human with brown hair, brown optics, spots all over her flesh, THIS IS WHO WE FOUND. WHY DO YOU NEED SOMEONE SO SPECIFIC, ALL HUMANS ARE THE SAME ANYWAYS, THEY'RE GROSS AND FLESHY AND EASY TO SQUISH

At one point Shadelock makes a comment, not to be malicious but just as a general statement "you can have any old human as your Conjunx if you want one so bad, I don't think the one you're searching for is alive anymore, or even worth anyone's time at this point" and STSC does That Thing™:

Anyway.

After the right human is found they're just staring at her across the vessel while Starscream is hugging and sobbing her name and Shadelock is just... staring her down. Not in a menacing way, but just... studying her.

And she's confused because she doesn't remember half of her relationship w/ Starscream or any other bots for that matter, plus she doesn't know why he's so emotional and hugging her so tightly, what he could possibly mean by "I'm so glad I found you" -- where the hell has she been, exactly? And she can't understand why he looks so different. At one point Shadelock is about to approach her, kneel down to her level and ask her a question, but by that point she's lightly tugging on Starscream's claws, going completely nonverbal and shutting off, and he notes her discomfort bc he knows his girl by heart, so he says something along the lines of "okay ALL OF YOU need to leave us alone now or I'll offline you, thanks for the help you literally did not give me. all of you are disappointments. go find the mini-cons, if you can actually handle that, and if you do, I'll pay you and we can finally get on with our lives. also if you disturb me and my Conjunx in ANY WAY, if walk in on us without knocking, if you so much as BREATHE in our direction, I will not hesitate to fire my missiles, bitch"

So I'm reading this sad Chreon story - as one does (it's me, I'm one) - and I just had the weirdest epiphany? Like, I dunno, it's probably dumb and far from a hot take or some eye opening character analysis no one has done before but I noticed that people (including myself, so like not saying this in any kind of bad way) tend to write Leon as stand offish, apathetic, and cold. Like this story stated it specifically, said something along the lines of "this is what Leon gets for cultivating a reputation for being unapproachable, apathetic, and indifferent" and the insinuation there is that he's done this on purpose, put on this front to seem unaffected by things when in the presence of others, and I think it's pretty true for his character. Like anything post RE2, Leon is kind of. I dunno, I wanna say deadpan? He seems to express v little emotion, and when he does it's usually in the form of a quip, one-liner, or snarky come back. Sometimes awkward small talk lol. But it feels like he's built this wall, this persona around himself, not just to protect himself from losing more people (bc he probably sees it as some kind of inevitability, and with his track record I certainly wouldn't blame him), but to protect people from him. This poor man has spent so long fighting, trying to save people, and even tho he saves the day in the end, so many people get lost in the process, and Leon feels every single loss personally. Right off the bat we see it every time someone dies in RE2, then again in RE4 with Luis, who he knew for a short period of time and yet mourned so heavily for, and even Krauser to an extent. Leon is someone who is quick to trust, even as he gets older, and we see that in RE Vendetta, too. Like that's probably one of the big reasons he's so devastated after losing his team. Not only was he entrusted with a group (which doesn't happen often, as far as we have seen), but he probably put his trust in them as well, including Petrucio, the man who betrayed them. I just think Leon is such a complex character who hides so much of himself (which is convenient for bad writers at Capcom who can't write good dialogue to save their lives lmao, but I also think it's a decent part of his character now), probably so what happened in RE2 doesn't happen again. Bc that shit was probably so traumatizing, and Leon was still a baby! I'm only a year older then he was at the time of RE2 but like, as humans our brains don't finish growing until age 25, so that kind of trauma at that age is for sure gonna stick with you, and it seems he picked up some unhealthy coping mechanisms from it that's more than just his drinking problem. Anyways I guess I just wanted to rant about how Leon is the most "emotionless" character in RE but in reality he feels and cares so much, so much so that if he doesn't put up that mask of indifference then he'll destroy himself. This man would die so that others could live, he's saved the world multiple times without a care for himself past the need to finish his mission and keep as many people as possible safe. He's such a tragic character and I love him so goddamn much, like he's one of those characters who you aspire to be like, in a way. Selfless, capable, dependable, reliable, smart, passionate, caring. And some of this might be my own character building I've done based off of other headcanons and character analysis posts and stories I've seen, but I do think we see a lot of this in the canon content, too. I just really love Leon S Kennedy, okay? He makes me sad but also so so happy and I love him v much, he is a big time comfort character for me. Sorry for the rant, just needed to scream about this with someone who would understand lol 😅

oh anon, I get you, I dooo. I think that you're right in that Leon has kind of this shell around himself because it's the only way he can cope. but there are so many cracks in his shell, and he lets people in so readily even when it would stand to reason that he shouldn't trust anyone anymore. he gets attached to people lightning fast, and he'd die for them even when he's barely met them.

this borders on headcanon territory, definitely, but I tend to often write him as someone who gets attached easily and falls for people easily (be it friendship or romantic or anything), but then he doesn't know how to properly let people in because he's got his defense mechanisms, he's trying to keep himself from breaking, and what if he truly lets someone past those walls and then another disaster strikes and he never recovers from it?

and I think it shows a lot in how he's so awkward with small talk, he can throw in one-liners and dad jokes and try to keep his own (and anyone else's) spirits up with that. but oh man. beyond that? the boy doesn't know how to naturally talk to people. (even like in Infinite Darkness, with Claire, I think his "don't do anything stupid" was 100% meant to be a joke, both times, but it just didn't exactly land perfectly. poor awkward bby)

but like even though he might put up this unaffected front, he's still so very expressive? like... if you really pay attention to him? he's far from actually an expressionless and cold person. he just isn't very loud about it. (i was just going through ID screencaps yesterday and while Shen May is talking and Leon is on the background, he goes through such a journey in expressions alone :'D)

AND HE CARES. like, for example in Infinite Darkness, he sees Patrick is shaken and the first possible moment he has, he immediately asks him if he's okay and takes a moment to reassure him. they're in a hurry, he's supposed to get going and not check up on a guy he's never even met before, but he does it anyway. and I think it speaks a lot of his character. he's quick to offer support and comfort, and he genuinely tries to be there for others the best he can. he desperately needs someone to listen to him in turn, seriously. give him emotional support, damnit.

and I wanna highlight what you said:

in a story with many, MANY problematic characters, there is only One that truly fits the poor little meow meow label, and that is jin guangyao. everytime he cries about having had no choice in doing what he did, everytime he pleads with those big doe eyes... both him and NHS learned to weaponize the meowmeowfication, but while NHS still comes off as more pathetic, JGY found the perfect balance that just makes it impossible to look away. i adore him

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)

ahhh jiang cheng, a character that i adore dearly but in that specific way in which i love watching him have his pathetic male hysteria moments. you know that part in guanyin temple when he walked in through rain all badass, but then during the fight he (unnecessarily) tries to save wangxian by jumping in front of jgy's sword and ends up sitting down on the floor looking like an angry, sad, wet dog? that scene summarizes perfectly what i love about his character. i wanna put him in a pretty glass jar and shake it, i wanna poke him with a stick and see how much trauma oozes out, i wanna lie him on a pan and flatten him like a pancake. he was immaculately written but i cannot relate to any of my mutuals cause they either love or hate him unironically, so i'm sitting by myself in my little corner tormenting him like a bored cat playing with a bug

Damn the hard one huh? But I really enjoy them so here they go!

An Unexpected Journey

The company's arrival: From the moment Gandalf finds Bilbo to Thorin singing Misty Mountains, you can't stop smiling! It's so enjoyable and fun and exciting, especially seeing this cultural clash between hobbit and dwarves! And honestly, I like the changes from the book, although book's is more hilarious, exactly because we see more realistically the characters and really get the first taste of their dynamics and different characters!

Riddles in the dark: The movie nailed this scene! It was creepy and fun and full of suspense as it should! Bilbo is in this terrifying situation and shows a side of his that he never knew he had and all that to survive! And the moment he spares Gollum's life? Enormously important for him and his humanity but also for the eventual destruction of the ring!

Bilbo's speech: I put it as a bagginshield moment but come on! It is moving and of great importance! Bilbo convinces the company that he really is here to stay and help them simply because they deserve a home! And all the dwarves are so moved because no outsider ever showed such empathy for them and this gives them the courage to carry on!

Bilbo saving Thorin from Azog: A small hobbit yeets himself to a huge orc to not touch the fallen dwarf to who has no obligation, what is not to love?! Seriously he didn't have to do that, he didn't have to risk his life but he did, and with acts showed how far he's willing to go for them! Plus Azog's face is everything!

The hug: I'm basic, I see two guys hug, I fall in love! Jokes aside, this is the moment where Bilbo and Thorin make a fresh start, open up and are willing to try to be better! Two lonely, stubborn in their way and proud men admit their faults and want to form a connection! And that makes me too sentimental!

The Fellowship Of The Ring

Bilbo's birthday party: I love this part because not only we see what happened to Bilbo after all these years but most importantly who is really Frodo! And Frodo is a young man, dreaming of adventures but loving his home, having fun and dancing but also a gentle and kind person! Everytime I see how happy he was I wanna cry!

The council: All the important people are here and discussing seriously about the ring, therefore, we get to know more about the relationships between races and the world in general and while all the big folk is yelling a hobbit offers to be the one who will carry the ring like it's nothing! They're all moved and don't dare to be proud or scared anymore and thus the fellowship is formed, from people truly willing to do what it must be done! A bit naive maybe but for sure honest!

Frodo's and Bilbo's scene: I know Rivendell again but damn these scenes are so SO moving, especially after watching The Hobbit trilogy! You know why Bilbo feels that way and what it means for him to give his mithril shirt and Sting and of course the burden of the Ring to his beloved nephew. Yep, pain.

Moria: of course all the arc here is amazing but I'm specifically talking about the moment they find Balin's tomb and Ori's skeleton and GOD THE PAIN IS REAL HERE (poor Gimli) and the words Gandalf offers to a scared and lost Frodo! That no matter the burden or the dark situation we're to deal with, we have no other choice than move on and maybe sounds simple but it's far from that!

Sam follows Frodo: Frankly, the finale is amazing, from Boromir's fall to the Ring and his immediate regret to the Three Hunters determined to save Merry and Pippin! Merry and Pippin being willing to be bait for the orcs so Frodo can slip away, Aragorn saying to Frodo that he would follow him till the end but lets him do what he must, Boromir's sacrifice to save Merry and Pippin and his last words to Aragorn! All of these are amazing and painful! But to the top I'd put Sam denying to let Frodo go alone and almost dying if Frodo didn't catch him! The one is willing to give everything and the other willing to accept help! They know very well that they may never return but still clench to each other and keep moving towards their goal, because simply it must be done!
