[Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001] : Kyo & Kyosuke
Tumblr media
Kyosuke Kagami first appeared in the 1997 3D fighting game, Rival Schools: United by Fate. Four years later, Kyosuke made his 2D fighting game debut in 2001's Capcom vs. SNK 2. That being said, the first time we'd see a Kyosuke sprite was two years earlier in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash.

Versus TCG was a physical trading card adaptation of SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash, released by Mirai Hachi Karuta Shoukai in 2000. Maintaining the same rules and set of 300 cards from the original pair of games, Versus TCG also added 36 alternate-artwork versions of cards.

Here's a thought: Steve has a Ryu Number of 1, which he qualifies for through at least 2 different games: Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, and Super Smash Bros. Which character would have the largest number of games they could qualify for a Ryu Number of 1 through?
And a follow up question: which character not from Street Fighter has the largest number of games they could qualify for a Ryu number of 1 through?
Breadth isn't my strong suit, so it's entirely possible that my cursory research is incorrect. That being said, the answer seems to be, unsurprisingly, Chun-Li. The specific number is a little weird since there's the open question of "how many versions of a game do you count", but excluding Limited Ryu Number-only appearances like Fortnite, Ryu and Chun-Li share a grand total of (give or take) 47 games.

(Ken's probably the runner-up: he has the first Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but loses out on both versions of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, base and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, and Teppen, where he's on multiple cards while Chun-Li is a playable Hero. Akuma is probably third.)
In terms of non-Street Fighter characters, the clear answer is Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers, who by way of appearing in almost every Capcom crossover game for somewhat obvious but still baffling reasons, appears with Ryu in (give or take) 18 games.

I caved in and bought the Pokémon TCG game for Gameboy on my 3DS. I was originally going to wait for it to come out on Nintendo Switch Online but there’s no knowing when that’ll happen. So I figured for six bucks I could just get it now and enjoy it without a subscription. I’ve never played the card video game before. Obviously I have plenty of Pokémon experience, and I have played the physical card game a decent amount. I got fully into Pokémania when I was a kid and it was in full force so seeing all these old cards is pretty nostalgic for me.
And I finally have that Base Set Blastoise I’ve always wanted to build a deck around. It’s in one of the starter decks so of course I picked it.
And unlike in SNK VS Capcom: Card Fighters’ Clash you can actually win matches early on to build up your deck. I really wanted to like that game more. But grinding out in the beginning is a nightmare because if you go second you lose.

[Metal Slug Advance] E-Cards
Tumblr media
Metal Slug Advance (GBA, 2004) was the franchise’s debut on Nintendo hardware. This entry in the series actually introduces some unique features that haven’t been used since. Most notably, players now have a life bar, giving users a little more cushion for their mistakes.
Metal Slug Advance also has collectible “e-cards” which according to the back of the game's packaging, “enhance your abilities” and “assist in the completion of your missions”.
Tumblr media
The artwork on these cards is nice and bears a striking resemblance to the cards in SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters’ Clash.
Tumblr media
As for the rest of the game’s visuals, it’s a bit of a downgrade from the mainline series. With many Gameboy Advance games from this era, the colors are washed out and animations aren’t nearly as fluid as they are in the arcade games. That’s to be expected though, and honestly, the game looks good because it’s still a Metal Slug game.
