i finally got around to reading "Rappaccini's Daughter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne and now i have Dahlia Thoughts™

Rappaccini's Daughter, according to the Ace Attorney wiki, is where the inspiration for Dahlia's last name comes from. I read it with my Fandom Goggles on, and not to get too english class here, but....we're about to get pretty english class

For those of you who haven't read it, it's a gothic short story abt a medical researcher whose experiments with poisonous plants result in his own daughter, Beatrice, becoming poisonous. The man who falls in love with her slowly learns the truth about her nature and struggles to cope with it.

"Am I awake? Have I my senses?" said he to himself. "What is this being? Beautiful shall I call her, or inexpressibly terrible?"

A large portion of our MC's internal narration heavily revolves around the idea of one's appearance vs their nature. He refers to the garden as "an Eden of poisonous flowers". When he shuns Beatrice for what she is, she tells him that even though her exterior is poisonous, her soul is pure.

This is a direct contrast to Dahlia, who Phoenix refers to multiple times as an "angel". And, needless to say, her soul is quite the opposite.

But the one thing the story makes clear about Beatrice is that she is, at the end of the day, a victim of her circumstances - in the same way that Dahlia arguably is as well. The MC's realization of the truth comes like this: he realizes that because Beatrice has been raised in the presence of poison, she has become poisonous herself -> i feel like I don't even need to relate this back to Dahlia at this point, it kind of slaps you in the face.

Beatrice confronts her father, too, and asks why he inflicted this miserable curse on her; but he is adamant that he hasn't done anything wrong.

"Wouldst thou, then, have preferred the condition of a weak woman, exposed to all evil and capable of none?"

He claims it's anything but misery to be as terrible as you are beautiful, to have the power and strength against which no enemy can prevail -> does that not give you big Morgan vibes

At the end, she takes an antidote given to her, believing that it will cure her of her poison - but because she's been so inextricably tied w the poison, there's no curing her anymore.

To Beatrice,--so radically had her earthly part been wrought upon by Rappaccini's skill,--as poison had been life, so the powerful antidote was death

The comparisons to Dahlia are interesting, I think, in that the 'poison' can be used as a metaphor for literally anything else. If we stick with the whole 'you can't escape from your nature and whatever you are raised in the presence of is something you can't separate from yourself anymore', then in a way Dahlia is the exact opposite of Beatrice. One actively fights against and rejects her nature, isolating herself from the entire world, while the other accepts it wholeheartedly. It also can be used to draw further comparisons between Beatrice's father and Morgan: one purposefully molded his daughter to fit his desired image, while the other actively was not involved, but still led to the same end result.

Beatrice's tragedy is that she's aware of her poisonous nature and hates it. She tells Giovanni, her love interest, "I am poisonous! I am deadly! I am like the fatal basilisk that slays with a glance!" She's a prisoner of her father's making, a living weapon who longs for normalcy. Dahlia, on the other hand, embraces her poisonous nature. She uses her charm like a weapon, manipulating everyone around her. There's no longing for normalcy with her; she revels in the chaos she creates.

"Thou hast filled my veins with poison! Thou hast made me as hateful, as ugly, as loathsome and deadly a creature as thyself--a world's wonder of hideous monstrosity!"

And, unwillingly, Beatrice ends up passing on her poisonous nature to Giovanni - and now he's forced to live with this curse. What, then, does that say about Phoenix...?

Thinking abt divine fruit mc and how I feel like mc being Lilith's descendant kinda walks back on how the brothers should move forward with their grief. Cause idk, it just feels cheap to have it be "Oh! The reincarnation of your dead sister is here! So all those thousands of years of grieving and learning to move on are okay now! One big happy family 👍" Cause, idk if mc was a descendant of the person Lilith gave the fruit to it would be more interesting as the brothers would probably have some sort of animosity towards that person.

As they were technically the one who ruined everything. And hell, they might have even demonized (lol) them. Blaming everything on that person whether they were aware of it or not. But making MC a descendant of that person, someone they grew to love and care about makes them realize "Oh. They were just a normal person." And maybe began to see why Lilith loved humanity so much.

Also, you could probably have belphie not become so homicidal by having MC technically have Lilith's blessing. Like, instead of diavolo having her reincarnate, he sets her up as a sort of guardian spirit for MC's lineage. Technically saving her from being a wandering spirit.And so by killing mc belphie realizes that he basically spat in the face of his beloved sister's gift.

Also I remember a post saying belphie should've been the last one to form a pact with MC. Lucifer would be second to last. Maybe during the celebration of the family reuniting. He gives them his pact as thanks for helping heal his family. Cause with belphie being the final one we get to see his growth over the next few months where he learns not only to love mc, but to love humanity again.

Idk, cause the entire narrative is about helping a broken family pull itself together and move on feels cheapened when the answer is "Oh, your technically (?) Sister is back! Dw!!!"

Also, tbh if ANYONE should be similar to Lilith it should be Satan. Like, the entire reason he was born was out of the rage Lucifer felt when god cast him out for trying to save Lilith.

That and I think it would add a layer to his relationship with Lucifer. Cause imagine the pain Lucifer would feel every time Satan accuses him of not trusting him enough. The same words Lilith would say to him when they were still in the celestial realm.

Also thinking about Lilith giving the human the divine fruit to save them parallels to the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden being the original sin and HOW THE ORIGINAL SIN HERE IS BORN OF LOVE. BECAUSE THERE IS NO MORE OF A TWISTED AND CRUEL CURSE THAN LOVE BUT AT THE SAME TIME THERE IS NOTHING MORE DIVINE AND MERCIFUL THAN THE BLESSING THAT IS CALLED LOVE.

your post abt knives and vash’ fate mirroring castor & pollux!!! yes yES YES!!!! ive been rambling about that to my best friends and i thought i was “insane” for not seeing anyone else mentioning that symbolism/reference and the possibility of their ending going that way!!! (at least on twitter, i didnt see anyone mention it, until i checked tumblr and here i am)

and your tags too!!! i personally believe it’s the best possible scenario, too because not only it would derive too far from knives’ fate in trimax, but it would also imo symbolizes their union = finally understanding of each other, a love that’s requited after all the heartbreak they experience at each other.

(also i personally hate vash’ fate at the end of trimax where he is still hunted by humans, so. i think if the twins die together, it would also serve the narrative purpose of vash being a saint.)

The constellation Gemini despicted in the ending of tristamp is something that is hard to miss, I find, but it goes beyond that. Castor and Pollux are twin half-brothers in Greek mythology. Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, while Pollux was the divine son of Zeus and Leda. Two brothers. One divine, one mortal. Kind of like Nai is more god-like than human: he is emotionally detached from others, dislikes participating in human activities like eating and thinks of himself above the humans who worship him as their god. His powers awakened earlier and he is in full control of them. Meanwhile Vash is more human-like: he is very compassionate, prefers to live among humans, enjoys eating delicious food prepared by them and lived the majority of his life like a human since he was not fully aware of his powers. Another detail of the story that struck me was that Castor and Pollux became patrons of shipwrecked sailors and travellors. I immediately thought of the great fall of the twins' spaceship and the years of travelling that defined Vash's life. Castor and Pollux even had a sister with a tragic fate. (Not very similar to Tessla but I thought I'd mention it since Helen was a victim and treated as a contested/desired object similar to plants in the eyes of humans, if I'm allowed to make this reach. Adding to that Castor and Pollux were motivated by retribution because of the abduction of their sister). They are often referred to as the evening star and the morning star. It's said that in China they were associated with Yin and Yang.

The Saverem brothers have already plenty of parallels to characters from the bible, why not throw greek mythology in the mix? And according to Wikipedia Castor and Pollux have been absorbed into a Christian framework too.

I really hope they will be reunited in death. My ideal ending is Knives and Vash dying hand in hand or hugging each other and from their bones grows an apple tree under which two brothers are laughing and playing. It would fullfill both of their dreams: humanity will continue to thrive in the garden Eden that they've created together and this time they'll stay together forever. It'd be a bittersweet ending and tragically poetic. No more lies, no more betrayals, no more running away, just them. 🥹

*delusional* maybe if Kenji Muto fully embraces the plantcest shipper inside his heart he'll make them kiss, they merge their souls in a scene allegorical to sex (this time consensual) and their life force will substain the desert planet and revitalize it. Nai gets to become one with Vash but their sacrifice that made Nai's dream of a paradise come true and redeemed him will be for the sake of humanity just like Vash would have wanted. Through this selfless act that would sanctify them, Nai's lies about him and Vash being angels who were send from heaven to save humanity will turn into reality.

his mbti is infp (which fits him sm bc of how like. caring. and idealistic he can be) and his enneagram is 6w5 (the guardian) which, again, SO fitting for a man like him. so loyal but also very pensive kinda guy. analytical one might say.

i never really thought abt it before but. god he DOES have a green thumb actually!! his apartment is full of plants because he still feels weird being in night city and wants to remember being outside (even tho "outside" is a desert). i think he also grows plants to manifest the future he wants, aka being at peace in a place that's connected to nature and had NOTHING to do with night city. he also gardens i've decided just now bc he can't stand all the factory foods (which is gonna be a useful skill when he DOES get his little haven away from everything!!)

– finley is trans!! it's a ripperdoc in the bakkers that did his top surgery a few years ago and there were some complications (normal thing to happen in the badlands methink) so his scars are now a little jagged and strange, but he loves them nonetheless – was taken by raffen shivs as a kid to be sold or eviscerated. he ended up killing and maiming his way out of the camp with a scalpel and running away before being found by some bakkers scouts. – sometimes, when he can't sleep in his apartment, he goes down to the garage and sleeps in his car. it's something that's more familiar to him and it soothes him despite the grief that comes with it.

🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?

he definitely prefers a few close friends. doing what he does—infiltrating the project at eden's gate years ago and now juggling his allegiances as best as he can—, it's much safer to only rely on a few friends he can really depend on rather than risk being ratted out by hanging out with too many people. he's also very slow to trust, so he's never even had a wide circle of friends, even as a child.

🤍 WHITE HEART — what are three of your oc's neutral/questionable traits?

– maxwell is an excellent hunter. he learned as a child with his uncle and his big brother achilles. he never liked it. – tends to be quieter in most situations, only there as support for whoever he's with (be it jacob or eli). he doesn't take sides during fights, which is why he's so conflicted about the reaping and its factions. – doesn't listen to much music. idk if this counts as a trait but there it is!! my poor underdeveloped boy

🍝 SPAGHETTI — what is/are your oc's favorite food(s)?

he likes homemade foods, no matter what that food might be, but the food that brings him the most comfort is saltines and peanut butter. it's just a little snack he used to get as a kid when they were a little tight on money and it brings back a lot of memories, good and bad.

💚 GREEN HEART — does your oc prefer being inside or outside?

outside!! carter grew up on a spaceship, so being outside on earth is one of his favourite thing. i mean, there are trees, flowers, rivers, lakes, animals, bugs!! so many things to see, so many beautiful colours, so many different smells!!

strawberry,,,, he's a very strawberry and banana kinda little guy and strawberry ice cream is just so sweet AND pretty. all pink. important also to note he hates pistachio ice cream (projecting that on him rn)

carter listens to all kinds of music!! growing up with peter quill as a father, he ofc listened to a lot of music from the 70's and 80's and they're what he listens to the most nowadays, but he also enjoys pop music a lot and the shrek 2 soundtrack!! he's also a BIG fan of dolly parton

Fallen angel Ash + Red??????? do tell :D

OKAYYYY i've already Established red and ash in the last ask so. let's talk abt their dynamic as fallen angels shall we? ^_^ (ramble under the cut)

so the dichotomy between then is that red accidentally became a fallen angel while ash intentionally fell from heaven. although both of them have themes of free will, the way free will plays into their fall from grace is vastly different. red used free will and had a consequence that was Much Harsher than ash, who knew exactly what is gonna happen when he fell (and he wasn't really a big fan of angelhood anyways)

also on top of that, red mourning his angelhood while ash just. simply cant understand is sooo. yeah. red and religious trauma. (he has so much of that oh my god) . and also red not understanding ash's willingness to rebel intentionally. insert thing about their ideologies being Directly opposed here bc ash thinks red isn't living his best life for being so willing to submit himself to a higher power. Yeah

but the thing is. even though they're fallen angels for vastly different reasons, they're still the closest thing they have to understanding each other. because whether they like it or not, they're still in the same place. after everything. so an arc where they reluctantly accept each other and talk about fallen angel stuff would go so hard i think. (also add them working out their feelings together and *chefs kiss* i loveeee that trope sm)

and maybe. once they work things out and realize they only have each other, they can have hope that things will be better. because they have each other. they might not understand the other all of the time, but from what they understand, they can forge something between the others. and maybe from that, they can realize they can survive this new and cruel world they find themselves in (also yes this is another paradise lost parallel. guess what story sparked my idea for this /silly)

(^ also that one is inspired by the ending of paradise lost where micheal [non fallen angel] talks to adam and tells him to story of jesus and how there won't be a battle against satan and how jesus [adam's future son] will be hurt and killed instead. but even as adam hears that, he still has hope things will be better. even if everything is horrible rn. he still has hope because he was made in gods image. and its a wonderful parallel to an earlier scene where satan is sitting in the garden of eden and crying at all of the grace and beauty of it and yet he doesn't feel better because he's so full of hatred and spite. that has nothing to do with the hc its just one of the coolest things in paradise lost i think . )

i have quite a bit of info on my au but it is pretty difficult for me to like. write it out... plus i am still developing it! i am gonna try put something here about the basement tho cuz it's probably the most developed part-

the basement is a weird, somewhat imaginary place between life and death, people are sent to it to learn something about themselves which is usually that they're dead but it isn't always that. once the person learns whatever lesson they need to learn they can leave, usually. sometimes they don't get to leave, just depends on however the thing that controls the basement feels.

the feelings of the most recent person to enter the basement also affects how the like. wildlife(? monsters n stuff) will behave, if they're scared- it'll be more aggressive, if they're calm- it'll be more calm. this can cause the basement to be incredibly chaotic at times but there is a place in it where it's always calm, the garden of eden. which is. the garden that eden has! they're very determined to make sure there's no conflict there but... there's been some issues

that's all i can think to type out.. i hope it's good, i dont wanna give away too much rn

It had been months since he proposed the idea to you. Kuroo quickly began to be a bit more welcome to spending time with you on a more affectionate level. It was different at first — he wasn’t used to how you wrapped your arms around his torso when he cooked for you. Or how your face warms while begging him for more during feeding sessions. Before you had been quiet and reserved, the two of you respected each other’s boundaries enough while remaining amicable and enjoying the distance between the two of you.

Now, it’s like he wants the distance to disappear. Centuries of being alone with just his friends and all his passing romantic interests must not have taught him anything — he somehow feels alive again.

“I’ve never met someone who makes me feel like this.”

You look over at him, the two of you laying on a thick quilt in the yard with the starry sky stretching above you. Even now he’s got a celestial glow about him, but you’ve always thought that.

His words are a breath of a promise across your lips. He doesn’t just mean a kiss, you both know that. But you aren’t sure if you’re ready for that just yet. “The Talk” was always on your mind lately...

Still, you nod like always, completely captured under his spell. For the first time since he welcomed you into his home — into his life — you welcome Kuroo’s lips for a different reason. The kiss is like shy carnation petals, delicate and barely touching each other. It’s the perfect representation of what your relationship with the vampire is.

And yet, it turns into something much more passionate before you can even realize. He’s halfway hovering over you, caging you underneath his upper body while his lips capture yours in an embrace that makes you dizzy. Somehow it’s lustful at the same time that it’s romantic, but maybe the sound of the koi fish in the pond and the buzzing of the cicadas adds to the mood.

This is something 99% of the Christians I stumbled upon on this hellsite fail to understand but : Christians are supposed to settle for the limits that God gave them. God gave us a brain, 2 legs, 2 arms, companionship and deemed that "it was good". We don't need anything else to do our bidding into this world. If you need anything going above your own physical capability/a miracle? PRAY & ask God. But this whole "yeah I can control elements" is straight up satanic trash. God NEVER intended to give men the power of "controlling elements". That's also why He told us to NOT dip into astrology, necromancy and all this demonic stuff because He knows there is actual power into it and that humans don't have the spine to handle it because he's satan's territory.

Satan's ultimate goal is to get CONTROL over God. He tried (and failed) to overturn the power in the Kingdom of God, and now he's trying to do the same with humans (although God technically lent to him authority on this Earth). That's why I cringe soooooooo bad whenever I see so called Christians hyping up these demonic shows featuring (little g) gods (I'm still not over the fact that there are Marvel is pulling out movies literally called as foreign gods' name, [Loki, Thor] and "Christian" are flocking to watch them en masse....spiritual adultery at its finest👌), superpowers/superhero, again worship (Avatart, the last airbender), nekketsu anime/manga, etc

If you're Christian AND reading this and entertain this material as a source of entertainment, I really compel you to stop. It's just satan making you fancy his dirty old tricks. Don't be inspired by them and don't try to create content emulating this agenda. Don't think it's actually okay/not a big deal just because you see so called "Christians" watching them. Sin isn't okay just because you see many people engaging in it. There will always be space for adulterers and hypocrites in Hell.

ok alright so I can’t stop thinking about this concept so I’ll just ramble abt it since I wanna be more active on here

Basically I have this oc who is the prince / king of Verona, Anthony Morningstar. He, obviously, lives in the palace. My idea was that some of my other ocs (from the same group) work / live at the palace, too. Like, Cali would be a jester, Rowan & Jane are knights, Cyber is an inventor (I mean, Cyber would’ve been living there regardless of this idea). Toby & Elliott wouldn’t live there since they’re gods & have their own planetarium thing.

The thing is...this would (obviously) change some backstories. I’m not sure about Cali’s yet (maybe the whole circus is the personal entertainment?? or he switched jobs??? idk man) but as for Rowan, I’m thinking that Kelly and Blair don’t die. Yeah, that’s right. One of the most iconic things about Rowan’s backstory, I’m changing. The main thing here though is that Blair LIVES. Like, not in an au or anything, the real deal. Ya know I’m kinda glad bc then my ideas for her in aus don’t go to waste (like her becoming an actress, for example) & Rowan gets to keep his original personality (though he does soften up a bit later on, gotta get some of that sweet character development, yo). 

I’m not sure if Blair will live tho....gotta have that sweet angst, too, lol. Kelly, I’m thinking, would probably remain the same as a Guardian Angel oR A CHERUB SINCE THEY WORK ON EDEN, THE PALACE’S GARDEN!!! & it would work, too, since then Rowan would be able to take care of her. idk how he’d get a hold of Blair lmao.

it still needs fleshing out (duh) but I think I’ll go through with it??? it does give them an excuse to fuck around / an explanation as to how they’re able to go on so many adventures n stuffs lol.

he has a habit of secretly collecting things from earth that have made him happy. some of the things:

a plant from the garden of eden that doesn’t grow anywhere anymore. he gave it to his younger brother raphael, who treasures it and keeps it very happy.

a few sachets of tea that lucifer bought once from a market in the 15th century. michael was watching him “not creepily, just to see how he was doing” from a distance and got some too out of curiosity. he thinks it smells nice

a nice smooth stone he found near a little rocky island in 708 where a man was building a church

a shiny silver feather from one of the first birds

he doesn’t really have the capacity to regret the whole war in heaven thing with luci, because he’s a little emotionally distant and 100% devoted to his family/role and doesn’t exactly have the room to be questioning anything, but he does miss him very much

what is good omens about?

short answer: six thousand years of pining, and also, like, the apocalypse

long answer: the angel who was guarding the garden of eden and the demon who was the snake that tempted adam and eve have been,,,, fraternizing for a Very Long Time, and then crowley is given the antichrist in order to like. Start The Apocalypse? and so he does that (but stuff gets.......a tad messed up) and then he and aziraphale talk abt it and decide that really, they rather like the world and kinda don’t want it to end (there won’t be crepes or like, good music afterward) so they work together to try to stop it. and also theyre In Love. it’s like. really good. obv there’s like. religious stuff in it bc it’s,,, about armageddon, so if ur triggered by that be careful, but on the whole it is uh. poking fun, not like..... preaching anything, which is nice. i wanna like talk more about it but also if you’re thinking about watching i don’t wanna like??? super spoil you for it? like it doesn’t. end unexpectedly, you can pretty much guess how it ends and it fits and makes sense but it’s still. like. the How of it and like the foreshadowing is just,,,,,,,,,that’s good content babey.
