also if it makes me seem weak to you bc i dont actually wanna kill things-
dawg.
imma say this as if im your close personal friend whos very concerned about you, your wellbeing, and how you've been lately-
you sound like an actual nazi.
#i think true strength is being perceptive enough to know when bloodshed is entirely unnecessary.#diving in head first to a bloody battle and grinning with glee for it- kinda makes it hard to not look like a nazi then.#im very distrustful of people whomst violence is one of if not their first instinct in resolving conflicts.#i grew up in stl ok. ik that shit aint a joke. and it shouldnt be treated like one.#when you say that shit- people WILL take it literally.#unfortunately even if you're joking or not serious. ig tone plays a huge part but no one can read tone online. sooooooo............#not knowing if you're joking makes you even less trustworthy.#yes yes ik ive made jokes like that before why do you think i understand all of this so well.#been there done that. its old news.#but im saying this to you rn as a warning. bc ive met people irl who are like this. who wanna be violent so quickly#and see their love for violence and tendency toward it as a quirk- meanwhile other people see it as an actual threat they're making.#and like i said- stl- so its something you dont wanna mess with or risk your life with even if they are just joking and being quirky in an#edgy teenager kinda way. i avoid those people as much as i possibly can. acting like this is naturally repelling.#kinda the reason i used to do it. but idk if the ppl ik who do it or did do it do it for that reason or not.#no one knows if you're acting that way as a defense mechanism. they see whats on the surface. so you cant be mad at them for#avoiding you. be realistic. ppl are repelled by you and your method of political advocacy. so maybe its time for a change?#otherwise you will attract all the wrong people. people who might not just be kidding. people for whom it may not just be a quirk.#and you dont wanna find yourself in a situation you cant easily leave from bc you have some crazy freak w guns keeping you in line

TwiFicmas Redux: Shadow To Light
Tumblr media
Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope 2024 is a beautiful and positive year for everyone - I think we've all earned it.
As promised, as an auspicious offering, the first 1000 words of the STL Ch 13 draft. Mary-Alice is being profoundly difficult about this chapter, but she's allowed to be a little bit messy.
Here's to a great year with more regular updates and more of my self indulgent nonsense ;)
Fourteen. Starved for so long of beauty
Once upon a time, a lifetime ago, she made a choice. It was an easy choice to make, because it was the right one. Because she didn’t truly know what came next; her certainty in her own visions, her certainty in who she was going to be - who the Major was going to be - had made her confident.
(She doesn’t regret it, she would never wish to go back and make a different decision. She just wishes… she just wishes that she knew better what was to come. What it was like to be stripped right down to the bone, layer by layer, from loneliness and violence and hopelessness. She wishes she’d read the contract she was signing in blood and tears and time, just so she could look fate in dead in the eye and make the same choice without a second thought.)
The Major smells like… he smells like something she doesn’t want to acknowledge.
(He smells like home.)
She feels silly after the worst of her panic attack is over, and the Major is there next to her with his arm around her. She feels utterly ridiculous, actually - the stolen t-shirt in her arms, curled against him so tightly… She almost feels ashamed.
(Except… she’s frustrated. She wants to demand answers - when is she allowed to fall down? When is she allowed to break apart and have someone else put together the pieces? In more than eighty years, it’s always been up to her to maintain control, to be the thing that bends but does not break and she’s so tired. But she’s also supposed to be better than this. Isn’t that what the Major always said? Why Peter always resented her? Even Maria noticed. Mary-Alice is sturdy, reliable, consistent. If she falls, she gets back up. It… it would just be nice not to, just once.)
“How are you feeling?”
The Major’s voice is warm and kind and it almost makes her feel less pitiful.
Almost.
“Present.” Her voice is quiet but her tone is clipped and distant, and she regrets it when she feels him withdraw slightly. She’s wrecking this, like she wrecks everything. It’s all she ever does.
(Maybe that’s why she was such a good soldier; she knows exactly how to ruin things.)
But the Major doesn’t leave. He just shifts so he’s not pressed quite so close, his cheek no longer resting against her hair. But his arm is still around her.
“Do you need to hunt?” He asks, and she doesn’t know. Everything feels odd and off balance and maybe she’s not as back as she originally thought.
So she doesn’t answer. She just rests her head back against the wall and closes her eyes.
The Major watches her for a moment before looking away. “When I met the Cullens,” he begins in a gentle voice, “I swear Esme only made Carlisle approach me because I resembled a drowned cat. Hadn’t stopped raining on the East Coast for weeks, and I’d been roaming the woods the entire time. I was disgusting. Maria would have thrown a bucket of water at my head weeks before if we’d been back home.
“And Esme took one look at me and whisper-bullied Carlisle into approaching me, like I couldn’t hear every single word. She kept saying that I looked cold.” The Major chuckles and she’s close enough that she feels the vibrations through his chest and it’s… it’s not unpleasant.
It’s strange being this close to another person and not being on edge. Not waiting for the killing blow, trying to figure out how to get to their throat first. Making sure that she knows exactly where their hands and teeth are, that she’s prepared for their next movement, for the tightening of their muscles before they lunge…
(It’s very strange being this close to someone, at all. She prefers to keep her distance normally. But this… it’s not the bad kind of strange, she doesn’t think. She’s just so intensely aware of him.)
“Just imagine it, will you - Esme wearing a tweed coat and riding boots and a hat to go hunting, and I look like a monster who spent a week sleeping in a swamp,” the Major continued, “And she was worried about me, like I was a soggy kitten.”
She can imagine it, honestly; his hair sticking to his face, and that gaunt, murderous look he got on his face when he was thirsty. Weeks of grime pressed into his clothing, his skin, looking like the monster from an old story or some mythological horror rising from the riverbed. Nothing sympathetic or pitiable about him for most people.
Right now, she feels oddly grateful to Esme for looking past all of that and seeing the Major as he could be.
“And you followed them home?” She tries to make the words sound light-hearted, but they fall flat and ugly, and she wants to take them back.
That makes the Major laugh out loud, a rumble against her side that is startling and she jumps a little.
“No. I told them to fuck off and leave me be; I had to tell them that a few times over the years until I gave in and talked to them. Let Esme convince me that taking a shower and accepting new clothing was a right and not charity. Let Carlisle remind me that I owed them nothing by ‘visiting’ with them. It took a long time for them to lure me over the threshold.” The Major takes her hand in his; his thumb smooths over a patch of scar tissue, a repetitive motion that feels… soft. Nice. “I think in the end, I hinted that I was ready for them to ask me to stay with them. I don’t think I was subtle about it either.”
“They didn’t ask you before then?” Mary-Alice feels the frustration boil for a second. She watched as much as she could bring herself to, for many years, and there are pieces that she’s missing. They just weren’t important enough for her to see, or something changed and recalling what she’d politely dismissed was too difficult.
(She had entrusted the Major to the Cullens. It didn’t matter that they had had no idea, all those years ago, her visions had made the contract. And even now, knowing that it all came together the way it was supposed to, it upsets her that he had to wait for so long to be taken home to his family.)

Adventures in 3D Printing
Blizzard has released the STL files for their models in the Arclight Rumble game. They're sort of big and chunky and have a fun cartoony look. AND they released one for Baron Rivendare. Naturally I have to give my boy some love.
Tumblr media
I think I'm on one of my last bottles of resin. I ordered grey but they send you a tester of a different color when you order a certain amount. Suffice it to say I was surprised to get clear green!
When I saw that the supported file was to be printed in one step I was a little worried, because it was so large and it can lead to more avenues for misprint. But the model came out well with only one error on Deathcharger's face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But nothing a crack job application of greenstuff can't fix. Otherwise the piece is good. The sword is the correct thickness and there are no strange 'splices.'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the painting I applied a simple zenithal highlight of a black base with a Wraithbone highlight. I went with the GW rattlecan because I had it on hand. Plus it has really good coverage. I did a little more shading with the transparent gray before laying out the colors I planned on using.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started with Rivendare's armor using a combination of the Rumble and in game models as a reference. I ended up using a cooler purple for the plates. The skirt and Deathcharger's mane and skin followed as they are the biggest parts of the model. It is also easier to touch up darker areas than lighter ones, which is why the skulls were one of the last bits to be painted. For the horse's flesh I went with a warmer scale black tone to bring in some contrast. Finally I knew I wanted a strong contrast between the Rivendare's armor and Deathcharger's skull, so I made the horse's head much more yellow than I normally would.
Tumblr media
The main portion of the piece is complete. I printed out a few gubbins this afternoon and I plan on shifting the rider to a larger base to accommodate. I would say that it DOES look like a toy and that the paint and technical choices to reinforce that. But I think I like it? At least, I think that is how the designers intend it to look.

someone in the skip and loafer tag was live blogging their experience reading the manga, and noticed all the moments showing mika and Nao-chan's relationship, and they seemed very concerned the series is teasing some sort of romantic or sexual relationship between them (if you don't know anything abt the series, the characters are a 16 y/o girl who is friends with the protag and the protag's adult aunt), to which my thought was "Uh, what the fuck are you reading, NO, lol???" but it did remind me of how I recently read Insomniacs After School, and I started it very suspicious of the series when it's been nothing but wholesome so far.
It also reminded me of something that happens online when a piece of media gets popular, but someone does call out an aspect of it. for example, when spy x family's anime came out, there was a post going around criticizing the series, mentioning its light tone regarding fascism, the fact that there's a sis con character, and the author writing a child in a sexually provocative way to try and be a homewrecker to the main protag's family, and what bugged me back then was that there were people sharing the post abt it like "I know nothing about it, but I knew it was weird, I could tell." and I was like ??? Not that they have to read the work itself to see that it's bad, but if they knew nothing about it, all they could know was that the series just has a child as the 2nd protag w the father as the main character... that's not inherently strange or concerning (the bad thing is probably more the author's inability to create well-written female characters). my point is, are these all bad faith judgments from fandoms based on how "problematic" elements aren't a rare occurrence in anime/manga, or...
I just think about how when I read stl, there was literally nothing that made me even think it was suspicious, its just an elder sister-type relationship? So it also reminds me of when people online see familial relationships in media and interpret them as romantic/sexual... so that might be a media literacy thing? i dont really understand where the concern is coming from

can I see your ocarinas
YES OF COURSE
I bought all of these from St. Louis Ocarinas AKA STL Ocarinas!
This one is a plastic twelve-hole and has the best tone out of my three! Yes it is unfortunately AOT themed.
Tumblr media
This one is my gorgeous and lovely ceramic four-hole shaped like a rupee from LOZ <3
Tumblr media
And my third one is currently lost to the whims of house clutter (in a protective case, thankfully), but it's another plastic twelve-hole that's blue with a little yellow triforce on it <3

Guitar and Bass DI Shootout notes!
Put this together to shootout Direct Input options for recording guitar and bass, as well as get better with my critical listening while getting  acquainted with my new interface. I might be making mountains out of molehills, I might be making strides in my audio engineering and songwriting journey- either way I have way too much time on my hands.
Hardware;
RME Babyface Pro FS Audio Interface
Radial Stereo PROD2 Direct Input Box
JHS Pedals Buffered Splitter V1 Signal Splitter Pedal
Land Devices PRE Guitar Preamp Pedal
TECH 21 SANSAMP Bass Driver DI Bass Preamp Pedal
Mogami GOLD Guitar Cable
Lava Cables Solderless Patch Cables
Gibson ES-335 Electric Guitar with stock pickups
Fender Jazz Bass with Seymour Duncan “Quarter Pounder” pickups
Guitar Center retail store picks (lol)
Software;
Logic Pro X digital audio workstation
Logic Pro X stock Limiter (+3dB on Master Bus)
Drums-
Native Instruments KONTAKT virtual instrument host
RoomSound Jay Maas drum library
Bass/Guitar-
FabFilter EQ3 equalizer plugin
STL Tones Howard Benson guitar and bass amp simulator (w/CLA Expansion)
Logic Pro X stock Compressor plugin
Logic Pro X stock Single-Band EQ plugin
I aimed to make a simple verse at 150 tempo in D minor with a low down bass pattern, mute-canceling strumming rhythm guitar part, and bouncing lead guitar melody in my arrangement at the end which these sections and parts cumulate to at the end of this demonstration. I imagine it as a lead into a driving chorus where a future vocal line can begin to wail out after a chilled-out verse- as my inspirations in songwriting originate from Nirvana and independent bands of the modern day. Using the STL Tones Howard Benson Plugin, I sought out a lightly driven Ampeg style amp for the bass tone, a Tubescreamer-fronted Vox AC30 style amp for rhythm guitars, and a pushed Fender Tweed style amp for the lead guitars. Only modifications were using the plugins’ internal reverb and delay sparingly, and added the aforementioned Single-Band EQ plugin for a subtle high shelf on the Lead Guitar. That’s it- no parallel processing, aux sends, or anything funny with the mixing. Nothing too fun until I can determine which method to record my Direct Input Guitars.
Audio Timeline - Total Length 3:44
Three routing methods described as;
RME Direct Input - RME DI
Radial DI Box into RME XLR Input - DI box
Preamp into RME 1/4th” Input (Sansamp for Bass, Land Devices PRE for Guitars) - PRE
Section 1 - 8 Bars testing
Three 8 bar instances of the riff, with 3 stages of testing (with drums, no drums, no plugins) - 0:06-2:04
Part I
Drums, Bass, Rhythm Guitars, and Lead Guitars - 0:06-0:44
RME DI - 0:06

Section 2 - 4 Bar testing
4 bars of each DI, followed by 4 bars with added EQ and Amp Simulation - 2:04-2:24
Bass (DI, then EQ+Amp Sim);
RME DI - 2:04
DI box - 2:11
PRE - 2:17
Rhythm Guitar (DI, then EQ+Amp Sim);
RME DI - 2:24
DI box - 2:30
PRE - 2:36
Lead Guitar (DI, then EQ+Amp Sim);
RME DI - 2:43
DI box - 2:49
PRE - 2:56
Section 3 - Which did I prefer? 35 Second Demo 3:05-end
Now, time for my favorite. I’d like you to guess which one my favorite is of the three routing methods with a 35ish second arrangement I made for this test. I used the same DI method for Bass, Rhythm Guitars, and Lead Guitars in this final example. I thought it sounded nice for what it was while not going deep into processing to keep the integrity of direct signals and keeping this test close to its roots, how a DIY musician approaches songwriting at the first step- plugging in and playing your instrument with minimal nor no outboard processing, other than maybe your favorite preamp pedal.

Wraith -- Our first monster! This creature is a kaiju from the GIANTS comic series from the Valderrama Bros. A giant behemoth that dwells on the frozen landscape of a derelict city. The world entered a new ice age and the humans hid underground, so now the surface belongs to these gigantic animals.
Tumblr media
Our intention was to embody this majestic design with the utmost respect, so we used the same digital sculpt made by Carlos Valderrama to bring Wraith to life. And because it was filled with details, we had a lot to work with. The only thing was adapting some of those smaller parts (like teeth and claws) so they could work fine in a printed model kit.
Tumblr media
Oh! And a giant monster is nothing without a good old city to rumble! We created a custom base for Wraith with some crashed buildings just as he appeared in the comic.
Tumblr media
Then, we sliced the sculpture so we could print the different elements separately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first prototypes work pretty fine! We started to join all the pieces together with putty so the seams weren't so noticeable.
Tumblr media
And of course, then came the best part: painting the model! First some black priming and then a coat of grey. We first started with the buildings so we could establish the general tone.
Tumblr media
And then Wraith. Because the design is so elegant, we didn't need lots of colors. It had to be simple yet striking. We were very happy with the results!
Tumblr media
And once we put Wraith with the base... Totally magical...
Tumblr media
And this was all the process for this Model Kit! We learned a lot doing it, and we think it's a very cool piece if you are a fan of GIANTS or just simply adore new original kaiju. If you want to own one of these, in GARGANTUA we offer digital STL files in our shops, and we are open to printing and preparing blank and painted versions of the monster. Don't hesitate if you want to put one of these on your desk! Ko-fi / Cults 3D

The number of objects that you can design in three.js very limited and nearly all of them are some basic geometries like cube, sphere, cylinder, torus, and so on. We all know that there are a tone of various models that can be created using designing software and platforms like Blender. You can use these 3D models to create a web based game or animation or any kind of 3D interactive UX designs. Any of these 3D models have a specific kinds of file format such as STL, OBJ, FBX, PLY, GLTF, BLEND and so on. So, we need to be able to load all of these files in order to use them in Three JS. In This tutorial, we will get familiar with the STL loader in three.js and learn about the details of it. You can find different 3D models for free on websites like CGTrader.com, Thingiverse, and so on. You can also find a tone 3D models of human characters, animals, and all kinds of different objects. A great job you can do is to further modify these models in 3D softwares like Blender and add clothes to the human characters. We will soon have a blog how to create the 3D model of yourself using your 2D image captured by your phone. A simple example from scratch: We will get started with the main elements of a Three js scene, including the camera, the renderer, the scene, and the object. Before doing that, we use the Vite plugin to easily create all the folders and files you need to run the Three.js code. First off, create a folder in the directory of your projects by using the following commands: Coppied to clipboard. mkdir STLLoader cd STLLoader Then, inside of the your project folder, create the necessary files and folders by simply running the Vite plugin command: Coppied to clipboard. npm create vite@latest Then enter the name of the project. You can write the name of your project as the name. And also the package (the name is arbitrary, and you can choose anything you want). Then select vanilla as the framework and variant. After that, enter the following commands in the terminal. Notice that here STLLoader is the project folder's name, and thus, we have changed the directory to STLLoader. The name depends on the name you enter in the Vite plugin : Coppied to clipboard. cd STLLoader npm install Afterward, you can enter the JavaScript code you want to write in the main.js file. So, we will enter the base or template code for running every project with an animating object, such as a sphere. Also, do not forget to install the Three.js package library every time you create a project: Coppied to clipboard. npm install three The code: Now, enter the following script in the main.js file: import * as THREE from 'three'; import OrbitControls from '/node_modules/three/examples/jsm/controls/OrbitControls'; import STLLoader from '/node_modules/three/examples/jsm/loaders/STLLoader'; import Stats from '/node_modules/three/examples/jsm/libs/stats.module'; const scene = new THREE.Scene(); const light = new THREE.SpotLight(); light.position.set(20, 20, 20); scene.add(light); const camera = new THREE.PerspectiveCamera( 75, window.innerWidth / window.innerHeight, 0.1, 1000 ); camera.position.z = 3; const renderer = new THREE.WebGLRenderer(); renderer.outputEncoding = THREE.sRGBEncoding; renderer.setSize(window.innerWidth, window.innerHeight); document.body.appendChild(renderer.domElement); const controls = new OrbitControls(camera, renderer.domElement); const material = new THREE.MeshStandardMaterial( color: 0xffffff, metalness: 0.35, roughness: 0.1, opacity: 1.0, transparent: true, transmission: 0.99, clearcoat: 1.0, clearcoatRoughness: 0.25 ); const loader = new STLLoader(); loader.load( 'models/3DModel.stl', function (geometry) const mesh = new THREE.Mesh(geometry, material); scene.add(mesh); , (xhr) => console.log((xhr.loaded / xhr.total) * 100 + '% loaded'); , (error) => console.log(error); ); window.addEventListener('resize', onWindowResize, false); function onWindowResize() camera.aspect = window.innerWidth / window.innerHeight; camera.updateProjectionMatrix(); renderer.setSize(window.innerWidth, window.innerHeight); render(); const stats = Stats(); document.body.appendChild(stats.dom); function animate() requestAnimationFrame(animate); controls.update(); render(); stats.update(); ; function render() renderer.render(scene, camera); ; animate(); Now if we save the code, and enter the following command in the terminal: Coppied to clipboard. npm run dev The above script will give the following result:

A Step-by-Step Guide to Spindle Motor
Tumblr media
Spindle Motor
Since its establishment in 1998, Changzhou Troy Mechanical get-together and Electric Co., Ltd. has been a creative messenger in the readiness, gathering, and Quick Shaft Motors.
To guarantee that our things are of the best quality, we are continually setting resources into a new, top-level contraption for creation and testing. Clients both at home and abroad have come to trust us in view of our state-of-the-art progression and obvious quality. Our “WHD” picture is turning out to be coherently extraordinary.
Things from our STZ, STF, STM, STL, and STX series are overall found in CNC switches, scratching machines, depleting machines, edge banding machines, and other identical contraptions. Also, we can make custom hub motors to meet our client’s particular necessities. We have passed our things generally on over the spot, including to the US, Russia, Europe, India, Brazil, Iran, and different nations, for the sole reason of remaining mindful of our affiliation’s critical conviction of putting the client first.
A CNC spindle is an unsteady, changed bar with fixing closes that are utilized close by going to bend and twist string from a mass of wool or flax carried on a distaff.
The Working Rule of the Electric Shaft: The hours of the windings of the fantastic speed electric turn engine are 120° not comparable to one another. After the three-stage exchanging current is applied, the three-stage windings each develop a sinusoidal turning engaging field. The engaging field turns at a solid speed in a specific bearing, the charming field speed is the arranged speed of the electric spindle motor. The simultaneous speed n of the odd isn’t solidly settled by the recurrent f of the information engine stator winding current and the quantity of axles matches P of the engine stator (n=60f/p).
The CNC spindle motor is to get different velocities by changing the rehash and excitation voltage of the stream obligation to the stator turning of the engine. During the time spent on speed increase and toning down, speed addition and deceleration are performed by changing the rehash to keep away from a preposterous temperature increment of the engine. Since the heading of the subbing appealing field of the motor relies on the stage plan of the three-stage exchanging current obligation to the stator, changing the stage social affair of the information current of the mechanized turn can alter the disturbance direction of the computerized shaft.

THE BAD PLUS, JAZZ ST LOUIS, 6 JANUARY 2023
For most of their existence, this band has opened their year with a Wednesday-Sunday run at our wonderful venue. I saw one of the last year’s with founding pianist Ethan Iverson and then saw a couple of TBP 2.0 shows with Orrin Evans. The Iverson show was, according to the cognescenti, “contemplative” and “not as exuberant as other years.” Maybe he was checking out. Those same cognoscenti liked my sense that Evans brought an earthiness to the band. In any case, both were less hierarchical trios with compositions from all and a twisty angularity to sets that included covers of pop tunes.
I missed last year’s debut of TBP 3.0 with tenor sax (and clarinet!!!) Chris Speed and guitarist Ben Monder because of my uncertainty about guitars. But, with Melissa Aldana’s wonderful 12 Stars (and a Jazz StL show) with Lage Lund as impetus to look at Rollins/Hall, Desmond/Hall or Bickert, Lovano/Scofield, Ornette/Matheny, I have stepped back from that prejudice.
That tic could reemerge as Ben Monder was too often busy and pedal-y and rock-y. Worse though is that he and Chris Speed (nice dry tone, a welcome voice in the mix not unlike Wayne Shorter in later Weather Report, and that clarinet in the closer The Dandy) are sidemen. TBP is clearly Reid Anderson and Dave King’s band—their compositions (quite interesting), their telepathy, their inside jokes)—and not quite the adventure it retained with Orrin Evans.
The larger ensemble interestingly constrained Anderson and, to a lesser extent, King. Anderson did unleash a few times with longer, more oblique lines, but he had to juggle more voices and was more structured. King was, as always, the marvel with a not quite Ari Hoenig 4-D approach to the sound, moving the rhythm around while also finding just the right sound/timbre to each cymbal and drum head strike. He’s not a quirky as Hoenig but he seems to have more fun. Both are effective on quieter tunes, so they aren’t just Sesame Street’s Animal, though they are equally fully of energy.
His The Dandy as closer gave Speed on clarinet perhaps his longest solo as such. The novelty but rightness of the tone were welcome, but, again, I liked the way his tenor contributed bursts of flavoring. The other tune was Anderson’s Slow Reactor from the second album with Evans as Monder fingerpicked with little distortion and there was room for the others.
But that exception suggest a rule to be tested, that the new compositions for the new configuration are different and, for now, it’s a difference that I don’t like as much.
I liked Speed and note that he and Tim Berne have/lead a band with Anderson and King that plays Ornette and Julius Hemphill music and King is just a gas. I want the old Reid Anderson back. I also want to like Ben Monder more
There’s always next year.
