When you live in the desert, you have to take advantage of any water you can find. That's just what the African spurred tortoise does-- an individual can drink up to 15% of their body weight in one sitting! Considering they're the third largest tortoise species, weighing in at 60 kg (132 lbs), that's quite a lot of water!

If you like what I do, consider leaving a tip or buying me a kofi!
Yes I know that's basic bitch taste, but LOOKATIM. CUTIEPATOOTIE
A generally well-size snake, and I adore all the colors they can have! So pretty to look at. I specially love em big snoots. Literally owo-ing 24-7, what else can I ask for?
Galapagos
Just a big ass guy. Look at him. HUGEEEE individual.
Honestly I don't really know, I just think it's cool that there are turtles the size of dogs. My man is titanic. Honestly, if I had the space I would LOVE to house one of these guys (don't let em near dogs, I just thought that pic was a good size approximation)
Satanic leaf tail
LOOK AT HIM, this guy is metal AF and I love everything of it. The heads shape is SOOOOOO fun and I love animals that camouflage. Their tiny Lil feetsies are so CUTE, and I adore their eyes with them tiny pupils. I'm never forgiving treecko for making this concept into "just some guy" who then turns into a generic-ass Dino, so much potential wasted. I gotta give em justice some day and make an honest to god dark-grass type fakemon. Or maybe even just dark-something and the grass is a lurantis scenario.
Chrysopelea
Ok but picture this:
A snake
That fucking GLIDES
Bitch goes in top of trees and then just fucking JUMPS and GLIDES for half a kilometer and then lands unharmed and repeats again. Because that's her locomotion method. Girl just JUMPS from high places and does aerodynamic shit and boom, ur 200 meters from where you started. Metal af
RES
Ok I KNOW this one is polemic, specially knowing they are driving to extinction an endemic species over here, BUT JUST LOOK AT EM
I just adore these guys, all from their silly lil-permanently angry faces to their marking and asking patterns, to the vibrancy of their "ears" marks, just such guys. I also adore how when babies they are such a soft emerald hue but they start getting more and more dark as they age and once they are adults they are all these mixes of rich forest green with light olive green strikes in their shells, they are sosososoooo pretty
Cameo of my Lil guy Olivo being eepy because I adore him to bits
Also a pic of the afro mentioned almost extinct endemic species, because I felt like it. We have some at the zoo and we just went a course on how to teach the public on why it's important to care for em and all that jazz. Pretty cool ngl
sorry for taking so long to asnwer! i just got hit by "honestly i dont really wanna do anything rn ngl" diseas and had to rest for 2 days. Have a painting of my doggo as compensation
The rescue and education center, Wild Education, needs some help.
I work for a rescue and education center for reptiles and small exotic pets in the Vancouver BC area. Wild Education is the largest rescue of our kind in all of BC. Last year, we took in a record breaking 123 surrendered animals, and this year, we are well on our way to breaking that record with 117 animals (as of Oct 11th, 2023) so far.
We absolutely love these animals, but many of them have come to us sick and in need of veterinarian care.
On top of that, we need a new home. The greenhouse we currently rent is on a property that is going to be sold soon. We need to find a new location and build all new enclosures for our scaley and furry friends. With housing prices and the cost of wood being so high, we need some help.
If you are able to donate even just $5, it would definitely help.
If you can't donate, please share! It really means a lot to us.
Adding some pictures of animals we have rescued this year and others in our education program. If you have any questions about what we do, please ask.
“Ok little tortoise I grew some oat grass in the kitchen window so you could have special fresh grass in winter. I cut it by hand and put it on a plate with dried flowers for you”
Zomg! Our shell friend @wafflesworld is 10 years old!! 🥰 HAPPY HATCHDAY WAFFLES!
As you can see it took me a while to put together a special message for you. I thought it was done but realized it was missing something very important! (What’s more important than my heart? Well noms obviously!)
Humom and I are sending you lots of snuggles and skritches and noms during your special celebration. Stay sweet (and handsome hehe 🥰) !
[ My family rescued a pair of baby sulcata tortoises that were randomly dropped off at our auction house. I've already arranged for one of my associates in the HERPS community of vendors to take them in for rehabilitation. But before that... enjoy this one little guy on a keyboard. ]
hi! do you have any thoughts about etheltheglamourtort on tiktok/ig? i know nothing about tortoises but it seems like they allow her to regularly come into close contact with their rabbit, as well as go for walks in public where she's been really close to a stranger's dog at least once. idk anything else to judge the other aspects of her care. thanks in advance!

Yeah, they seem to have Ethel (the tortoise) and their rabbit together pretty often. Although it is marginally better than having reptiles near dogs or cats, it’s still just unsanitary and probably stressful for both animals. If both of them are free-roaming, any germs they might have would definitely be transmitted to each other and the humans. I didn’t see any videos where Ethel is near a dog on a walk, but if that happens (which I’m sure it does occasionally) that would also be bad. I’ve made a couple posts already about why dogs/cats and reptiles don’t go together—check those out for more info.
Otherwise, their care is pretty good. They show Ethel eating a variety of greens and occasional fruit treats. They also show her munching on some grass, which is good as long as it’s not treated with any chemicals. The walks around the neighborhood are a good way to get some exercise as long as they’re not too long. I do see a video showing them putting her in a little stroller when she got tired on a walk, which is very cute. Overall it looks like they really put effort and time into taking care of her, which is a green flag.
The only other notes I would have are that she probably shouldn’t eat any grass or plants while on a walk, since they just can’t be sure whether it’s been treated with chemicals or not. Also, her basking spots inside the house and her “bed” have fluffy blankets, which is not super sanitary. I do like that there are multiple heat lamps around the house for her, though.
