Khagan Sahuldeem
Did some geometric gradient art of General Grievous after finishing Part 2 of Sahuldeem by @inonibird. Fantastic, highly recommend, can't wait for Part 3. You can read the fic here.

Sinking below the roiling water. Black eternity opening beneath his feet. A thresh of bubbles swirling and propelling him ever deeper with tremendous force, as if he had fallen from a great height and would keep falling for the rest of time. He reached, clawing for the surface, but his hands failed to move. He tried to kick with legs that were no longer there. Fluid clogged his lungs. He screamed static.

(aka, an old vision is finally going to catch up with him...)

It was a memory: an idealized memory of someone he suspected he no longer was, an expectation held like a breath.

“So it wasn’t enough for them, to doom my people, to leave us broken, starving, dying? They had to come back for me—the Martyr—my Izvoshra—they had to finish me off, like this?!” A snarl escaped his chest, the ventilator working doubly hard to match his heaving breaths. “Well, I am not finished yet! They should have killed me themselves, face to face—the cowards—Jedi scum! I—I-I—they…” He broke off, wheezing, then began coughing furiously. His arm flinched in the direction of his face in a vain attempt to cover a mouth that was no longer whole or functional with a hand that wasn’t there. The coughs transformed into wracking, electronically distorted sobs, the anger to misery. “They—they took everything from me.”
San Hill’s smile faded, not out of sympathy, though perhaps there was a shred of pity buried in his rotten core. He gave Qymaen a minute to himself, who seemed to have forgotten the Muun was even there. When he did speak again, it was with gentle, silky menace, as he placed his hand on the outside of the bacta tank. “Grievous, my dear, old friend. You said it yourself a moment ago: you are not finished. You survived.”
“What sort of life is this?” demanded Qymaen, wretched. “I am useless to my people. I—I can’t return to them. I can’t fight. If I can’t fight, I-I am...nothing.”
San Hill leaned close to the transparisteel, breath pluming against its surface. “What if I told you that there was a way for you to fight again? To move. To run. To shoot. To kill.”

Qymaen woke to a wash of lurid green.
No part of what he experienced in his first minute of consciousness made sense to him. Warm liquid pressed in on all sides, pinning him in suspension, but it was too thick to be water. Numbness hung heavy through his body, though the slightest tension of muscles or flexing of joints sparked incredible pain that set him gasping. The sharp intake of air threw him into further confusion as he realized there was something on his face, something that aided almost aggressively in his breathing, pushing and pulling at his lungs with a mechanical hiss that made his scales crawl. There were other noises, all muffled: a bone-shivering, droning hum, the purr of circulating fluid, an ensemble of beeps sounding off at regular intervals. The rhythm of the beeping stuttered as he slowly blinked and took in his surroundings. A cavernous room loomed beyond his bubble of warmth, evocative of the subterranean entrance to Abesmi, but he could make out little more than that.
Nor did he care to.
He closed his eyes, trying to will this strange, painful world to slip away.

An acrid billow of hot smoke penetrated the depths of his hood, and he turned away from the wind. They were close enough now that his maneuver scarcely managed to alleviate the choking reek; the wreckage of the Kaleesh shuttle scattered the waves all around their vessel, flames lashing through the darkness and warming the cool ocean air.
Small spotlights illuminated the choppy surface of the sea, guiding the aqua droids to their target, half-submerged in the water some distance from the bulk of the smoldering debris. He watched as they swam their cables out toward the bobbing, damaged cockpit, cracking its canopy open like a bivalve and clambering inside to secure the asset. The anchored cables began winching the droids back to the ship, a tortured screech of metal on metal in dire need of lubricant. With a gesture, he directed the IG-series units to step forward and help the aqua droids haul a tattered shape up over the side of the ship to drop, unresisting and dripping brine, at his feet.
Count Dooku stared down at a promise.

The ceremony concluded with Qymaen’s blessing, who knelt with as much reverence as he could muster. His cloak weighed warm and heavy on his back as he waited for Malga Shapra to paint vertical streaks up through the eye sockets of his kakmusme clear into the wrappings of his dulhlava. His heart thumped in his ears and his scales buzzed in anticipation of their impending departure, but he swallowed his restlessness and bade his breaths settle to try and give the Malga’s blessing the appropriate attention.
“You’ve taken the brunt of Kalee’s burdens upon your shoulders, Khagan,” said Malga Shapra in a soft voice, “and have passed your expectations for yourself to the rest of our people. But I hope you will remember that you have nothing to prove to us that you have not already done.”
Qymaen bit his tongue. Derision had no place in a blessing ceremony, no matter how deserved. He refused to interrupt Malga Shapra, even if he couldn’t bring himself to agree with what he told him. His mask hid his tight lips and the skeptical tilt of his brows.
Finally, the Malga ended his blessing with the standard verse: “May the spirits of our ancestors watch over you and keep you and your warriors safe in battle, Qymaen jai Sahuldeem.”
“I will continue to honor their memory, Malga Shapra."
Chapter 7 of Part Five - Martyr of the Sahuldeem series is up! And thus marks the end of Part Five. Hopefully there will be some chapter art for this one. Thank you if you've stuck around and continued reading Sahuldeem for this long. The sixth and final part is just around the corner...I can barely believe it.

“The only regret I have is selling my soul to spineless scum like you.” — Chapter 10 of Part Four - Collector of the Sahuldeem series has been up for over a month!
...and I’m just now posting art for it, haha, oops. :’) As I said, I’ve had a few things going on IRL that have needed my attention (and I’ll be posting about the biggest of those things quite soon). This big ol’ RL event is still in-progress, so not as much headway as I’d like has been made with Part Five - Martyr, but rest assured that it is still on the horizon. Also a hell of a Q&A backlog.
In the meantime, enjoy this weird art~

Zaebar’s elbow pressed into Qymaen’s side, a surreptitious nudge as he tipped his tusks toward their surroundings. “Did you, uh…want to say anything? To them?”
Qymaen felt his stomach curl in on itself as his gaze flickered over the quietly chattering crowd, watching as their collective posture perked upright and eyes lit up in suspense. His kakmusme dangled uselessly at his belt. Curse his lack of foresight. Eight years of baring his face to countless strangers, and there was nothing more he wished for in that moment than to hide himself from the people who may or may not still believe in what he was meant to represent. There was no disguising exactly who he was; his new leathers hadn’t been ready in time for his departure, so Ilona had insisted on tailoring his old white-and-scarlet regalia with only hours to spare.
The last time the Khagan Qymaen jai Sahuldeem addressed the people of Urukishnugal—before he had withdrawn from the public eye, before he had retreated with his family to Irikuum, before he had vanished from the planet itself—the threat of orbital bombardment from a capital ship cast a near-literal shadow over his desperately shouted words. His enemies had stood at his side, monitoring his speech.
He’d told them what he had done was best for Kalee, and so many had perished in the wake of his surrender.
Weak, useless, failure, the voices began to whisper again, but he’d heard this refrain a thousand times before and his recent experience on the shuttle steeled him against their cruel song.
Not this time.
He needed to make it up to them. He needed them to believe in him.
So he stood tall and spoke. —

Sure, she had her moral standards. After meeting her first real Kaleesh, learning they were meant to be far more than the shaved and filed sacks of bone the Yam’rii had fashioned to their liking, she had stopped carrying tusk powder and red leather in her cargo hold. When far-flung buyers blustered and offered higher prices for such wares, she’d promptly told them where they could shove it. Additionally, she’d returned to trade with Kalee after an apparent shifting of pieces on the Galactic dejarik board; hearsay suggested that the InterGalactic Banking Clan had stepped in on behalf of Kalee, though at what exorbitant cost she couldn’t begin to guess. At least the Yam’rii and the Trade Federation were no longer a constant orbital presence around the planet Kalee itself.
But at the end of the day, the prospect of turning a tidy profit was what drove her from system to system, bartering with lesser-known species for rare and unique commodities that would be found nowhere else if she wasn’t the one peddling them, moving shipments for criminal syndicates who paid top credit for her surreptitious service, generally availing herself of any lucrative venture that fell into her lap.
That was why she was back on Kalee today, after all. —
