If GRRM wanted to use a character to criticize the worst of Westeros’ society, he wouldn’t use Sansa.
If GRRM wanted a mad queen, (he already has one, Cersei), he wouldn’t use Dany.
I’m actually very tired of people disregarding their importance to the narrative.

Percy Weasley & Sansa Stark Parallels
This post is going to be more for me than anything else, because I doubt many people are interested in this very specific topic, but I couldn't resist.
Percy & Sansa are two of my favorite characters in literature, and the more I started to think about it, the more I realized how much they have in common. I know that sounds strange, and don't get me wrong, there are some key differences (Sansa was definitely more of an innocent victim - the poor girl was only 11 years old), but they do actually have a lot of similarities as well!
I'm going to link some posts/metas about Percy, just in case someone wants to see extra support for my claims, because I feel like Sansa is a little bit more obvious/self-explanatory in canon.
Basics
They are both tall redheads (which doesn't mean anything, but it is a fun coincidence). 🙂
They are both unfairly hated by fandom because of the POV trap (Harry & Arya).
Personality
They are both feminine (see this post about Percy).
They both love reading, and neither of them are very athletic.
They were both naïve and trusted the wrong people because they didn't know any better. Unfortunately, they were both raised by their fathers to trust in something that wasn't trustworthy (the Ministry of Magic - see this post about Percy - & the idea that most men/knights are honorable).
They are both romantic in nature (Percy writing love letters & Sansa reading love stories). Interestingly enough, both of them are the first siblings in their families to be given a storyline that involves a romantic relationship/betrothal & yet both of their oldest brothers end up getting married first (which is not a bad thing; it's just an observation).
Family/Background
They were both the "perfect" child who had high expectations placed on them from a young age ("Sansa was a lady at three, always so courteous and eager to please."), yet they were also ignored the most because they were "easy" compared to their siblings (see this post on Percy's relationship with his mother).
This is why their acts of "rebellion" (Percy disowning his family & Sansa going to Cersei) were so unexpected. They were always so well-behaved until they finally felt pushed over the edge:
“What do we want to be prefects for?” said George, looking revolted at the very idea. “It’d take all the fun out of life.”  Ginny giggled.  “You want to set a better example for your sister!” snapped Mrs. Weasley.  “Ginny’s got other brothers to set her an example, Mother,” said Percy loftily.
suddenly changing to:
“He went completely berserk. He said — well, he said loads of terrible stuff... And he packed his bags the same night and left. He’s living here in London now.”
&
"It was for love," Sansa said in a rush. "Father wouldn't even give me leave to say farewell." She was the good girl, the obedient girl, but she had felt as wicked as Arya that morning, sneaking away from Septa Mordane, defying her lord father..."
They were both usually the odd one out with their siblings, who all had a closer bond with each other than with Percy/Sansa. Their siblings also looked down on their interests because they couldn't relate to them:
“We’re trying to standardize cauldron thickness. Some of these foreign imports are just a shade too thin — leakages have been increasing at a rate of almost three percent a year —” “That’ll change the world, that report will,” said Ron. “Front page of the Daily Prophet, I expect, cauldron leaks.” Percy went slightly pink.
&
Sansa would have sighed and shed a tear for true love, but Arya just thought it was stupid.
They were also the target of their siblings' pranks/mischief:
“I shudder to think what the state of my in-tray would be if I was away from work for five days.” “Yeah, someone might slip dragon dung in it again, eh, Perce?” said Fred. “That was a sample of fertilizer from Norway!” said Percy, going very red in the face. “It was nothing personal!” “It was,” Fred whispered to Harry as they got up from the table. “We sent it.”
&
"Arya started it," Sansa said quickly, anxious to have the first word. "She called me a liar and threw an orange at me and spoiled my dress, the ivory silk, the one Queen Cersei gave me when I was betrothed to Prince Joffrey."
They were both resented by their younger sibling(s), who each happen to be about 2 years younger than them (Fred and George & Arya):
"...we never had trouble like this from Bill or Charlie or Percy —” “Perfect Percy,” muttered Fred.
&
Sansa had the grace to blush. She blushed prettily. She did everything prettily, Arya thought with dull resentment.
Ironically enough, their parents usually let those siblings get away with a lot more than Percy or Sansa would have been allowed to get away with (see this post on Molly & Arthur's lack of discipline with the twins):
None of which stopped Arya, of course. One day she came back grinning her horsey grin, her hair all tangled and her clothes covered in mud, clutching a raggedy bunch of purple and green flowers for Father. Sansa kept hoping he would tell Arya to behave herself and act like the highborn lady she was supposed to be, but he never did, he only hugged her and thanked her for the flowers. That just made her worse.
Circumstances/Storylines
Their fathers failed them (though not on purpose) when they needed them most (Arthur yelled at Percy and accused him of spying instead of calmly helping Percy see that he was being used & Ned refused to explain why Sansa's betrothal was being called off). This directly led to their acts of rebellion.
As a result, they were both taken advantage of by people in power (Fudge & Cersei) and separated from their family. Initially, this is what they both thought they wanted (Percy chose to leave & Sansa wanted to remain in King's Landing with Joffrey instead of returning home), but they both ended up regretting it (after losing their innocence and naivety) and wanting their family back.
They were both young, and yet they were judged for not knowing something that even the adults didn't know (Percy didn't notice that his boss, Barty Sr., who he barely knew, was under the Imperious Curse, while Dumbledore failed to notice that his old friend was actually a Death Eater using a Polyjuice potion & Sansa thought that she could trust Cersei while Ned believed that he could trust Cersei enough to warn her to leave town without her retaliating against him).
While they were separated/alone, their mothers were really the only ones doing anything to try and get them back (Molly visited Percy & Catelyn freed Jaime).
They both had to play their part in politics under a corrupt government. They both originally wanted to be a part of that system (eventually becoming the Minister of Magic & eventually becoming the queen). They ended up realizing that the people in charge were not as noble and well-intentioned as they thought.
They learned to be more careful about who they trusted, and they adapted to survive (Percy in a Ministry controlled by Voldemort & Sansa with the threat of Cersei, Jeffrey, and Littlefinger).
They both lost a brother. 😭
He and Ron had both grabbed Hermione and pulled her to the floor, but Percy lay across Fred’s body, shielding it from further harm.
&
Robb had died at a wedding feast as well. It was Robb she wept for.
They both reconnected/made amends with the sibling(s) that initially resented them (Sansa and Arya will meet again and work things out in the books - fight me):
“I was a fool!” Percy roared, so loudly that Lupin nearly dropped his photograph. “I was an idiot, I was a pompous prat, I was a— a— ” “Ministry-loving, family-disowning, power-hungry moron.” said Fred. Percy swallowed. “Yes, I was!” “Well, you can’t say fairer that that,” said Fred, holding out his hand to Percy.
In Conclusion
I just found it interesting that two of my favorite characters - who seem very different - have so much in common. I'm sure that says something about me! 🤣😊

What do you think of Starklings' reaction to Sansa divulging Ned's plans to Cersei? Will there be anger or resentment or forgiveness? How do you think George is going handle this plot?
Ned divulged Ned's plans to Cersei.
Littlefinger divulged Ned's plans to Cersei.
Sansa? Asked the queen if she could be allowed to stay in KL because her father had zero effort to spare to try and explain to her why he was ripping her away from the place had had sacrificed her wolf for. Then was grilled about the name of the ship they were going to take North.
GRRM might use this detail in his Stark sister conflict resolution plot, as a misconception to overcome. Seems like the kind of "every lie contains a kernel of truth" bit of information he likes to twist and exploit.
Key word: lie.
And really, the only Starkling who would actually fall for that lie? Arya. The others lack her negative bias, Bran likely watched the whole thing live on TreeVision, and Jon has his own Ned anger issues to help him understand just why Sansa did what she did.
It's going to be nice seeing Arya overcome her bias and "look with her eyes", which was Syrio's final lesson about perception of fact v. prejudice.
Satisfying, don't you think?

The way the Sansa Stark Defense Squad became a thing because dudebros and not like other girl's bitches were hating on Sansa because she can't fight and were writing fics about her where she'd get humiliated by ary@ and j0n and r0bb and basically every other fan-favorite simply for having feminine traits but now Ary@ stans want to make it seem like Stansas hate gender non conforming women and call them men simply because we're over-protective of Sansa after all the shit we've seen.

It’s not even analysis or any of sort but... what kind of reason to dislike female characters is to point out they are “actually” ugly?
It happens frequently in both Elia Martell and Sansa Stark discourse written by antis as somewhat an evidence for them not being important, good people or some mix of that.
MCU Scarlet Witch portrayal by Elizabeth Olsen is critized (among many others) of whitewashing (correctly) and... for actress being not pretty enough. Or, to quote my “fave”: having fuckin’ nasty face of r*tard (wow, congrats on ableism)
In top ten what is annoying about Elsa number 11 is her being ugly. To make matter worse, actually real problem when she almost killed her sister when she was an adult (strike her with her powers and then threw out of palace without any further thought) is on place 21.
Few people on Witcher wikia pointing out that Yennefer can’t be good fit for Geralt (book, game and show wise) because without magic she would be really horryfying to look at...?
Katniss is, indeed, strong fighter, complicated character and et cetera, but for certain Reddit discussion she can’t be called best female character of decade because she’s “far from pretty”.
Frost from Mortal Kombat 11 is written to be hate sink of sort (yes, I do like her, but that’s not the point): betrayed her master (beloved by fandom Subzero) for power, is incredibly arrogant and self-centered. But most common criticism? You guessed it.
Yue from ATLA among being called annoying, useless and weak, huge part of antis bring in her looks as another “flaw”.
Before writing “ooh, everyone has different beauty ideal, what do you expect?” - that’s not my point. Even if all these characters above were atrocious in looks, what kind of reason to dislike the character is that.
And if you feel urge to point that Katniss/ Yen/ MCU Scarlet Witch/ Frost/ any of the ladies are awful no matter their looks, that isn’t point of this post.
Also, yes, male characters are not immune to this, althought it’s certainly goes far more often about them being “not masculine enough”. Just scroll through Samwell Tarly criticism. And then compare it to S@ndor Cl3gane/T^rion L@nnister criticism AND defence against said criticism.

Do not think of me as the weak one
A little look into the newest chapter of my LOTR/ASOIAF crossover, where Sansa and Lady gets to show that they can be just as dangerous as their respective set of siblings
Most of the armies from Mordor had been wiped out in the fighting outside Minas Tirith a few days earlier, a few groups of surviving enemies had survived and now scattered from each other in desperation to escape. Not to mention, there was that little detail of scouts being sent out way ahead of the main armies to collect information and find out where to do most damage outside open battles.
“Do not let them come any closer!”
The soldiers in charge of protecting the refugees, were ready to lay down their lives against the enemy if it meant that the people of Minas Tirith could escape further away to safety.
“Sansa!”
However, in the panic that broke out, the draft animals which drew the wagons, naturally did not remain calm. Arya had to cling to the side of the wagon, else she was thrown around by the movements as the adults tried to prevent the two oxen from running away.
“Arya!”
What were those creatures? echoed through her confused mind as Sansa tried to get behind the soldiers for protection. From the way everyone had reacted, especially the soldiers, it clearly had to be an enemy of some sort, but she had never seen those before.
“Ow!”
The shout of pain from Arya, made Sansa turn around, to find that Arya had been thrown off from the wagon, and in dawning horror when realizing what would happen next, saw how one orc riding on a warg, managed to break though the improvised line of defense, aiming for Arya who would be a easily target thanks to her broken leg.
“Sansa! Sansa!”
All her usual courage had left Arya, who screamed in terror as the monster came closer to her, a sword drawn for a killing strike. Because no matter how brave Arya was normally, she was still a young child at only seven years and right now, was facing a very likely death that would not be without pain or even merciful quick.
“NO!!!”
At that moment, something happened inside Sansa, so fast that she almost did not notice it because of her terror of what was about to happen to her sister. She saw through both her own eyes, and those of Lady, as the female direwolf jumped forwards, her jaws opened for a deathly bite…
And somehow managed to take the orc by surprise and bring it down to the ground despite her smaller size compared to the warg.
The metalie taste of blood in her own mouth made Sansa shudder in repulsion, but Lady did not care about it as she opened her bloodied jaw, revealing that she successfully had delivered a killing bite in the neck of the orc. Now with Lady growling at the warg with her ears flat and her whole body tensing up, it became clear that the two animals intended to fight to death.
“S-Sansa!”
But the older sister seemed to have gone deaf to the terrified screams from Arya, who saw how the blue eyes of her sister had gone golden yellow like those of Lady, and her whole behavior had changed in the way Sansa seemed to be on guard for any attack towards herself despite her eyes also watching the warg that tried to find a good moment to attack Lady.
“Don't,” Sansa snarled in a, for her, very uncharacteristic voice like she was becoming more of Lady than her human self, “Dare. To. Touch. My. SISTER!!”
At the last word, shouted out, Lady attacked the Middle-earth warg. Sure, she may not be fully grown yet, but the female direwolf showed that her lack of physical strength and experience of fighting, did not mean that she was weaker, by showing how fast she was, taking advantage of her thinner build and speed compared to the warg. And distracting the warg long enough for an nearby archer to kill it with a well-aimed shot from his bow.
Arya could not recall any time if Sansa speaking like that in the past, it was like her sister suddenly had become a human form of a snow storm, cold and deadly, promising a rigid death to whoever was foolish enough to not seek shelter in time before the storm was arriving with a such speed that there could be no escape.
“....is this her? The same sister…who is so different from myself….?”
To be honest, suddenly Arya found herself to actually be scared of Sansa, because this was such a contrast to how her sister usually acted that it was unbelievable. This was not the two years older sister who did not share her own interests in the outdoors, and instead preferred to read boring tales of romance, sewing or other things that were done indoors. This was not the sister who always got praised for being so well-behaved and obedient, traits that were so desired in a southern lady, even at the royal court in the Red Keep. This was not the sister who would not see the fun in pranks, like how she had run off screaming that time in the crypts when Jon had pretended to be a ghost by covering himself in flour and spooking them. This was not the same Sansa who rarely got the attention of Father, and never got to spend time along with him, like how Arya herself so often got.
This Sansa was not the idealistic and quiet older Stark daughter of the past. She had just shown her own dangerous side, ready to prove everyone wrong about herself by being a skinchanger bound to this direwolf.
This was the realization that hit Arya like a sack filled with heavy bricks from above, as Lady came back to Sansa, and upon her nose touching a hand, the eyes of the older sister returned to her normal blue color.
“Arya! Are you alright?!”
Running over to her sister, Sansa tried to see if Arya had gotten injured, but the younger one just stared at her in disbelief, as if she was some stranger.

Jonerys shippers and Sansa haters are gleeful right now cause Kit Harington thinks that Sansa Stark is annoying and says that Jonsa is weird and yet he somehow has more chemistry with Sophie Turner who he can’t stand than with his beloved  Emilia Clarke. It’s ironic isn’t it?

Whenever I see people call Sansa dumb for not being a mind reader when she's having that dress fitting in Sansa II ASOS, it's like... you're missing the point. The horror of Sansa III would not work the same way if she knew what was coming. Unlike the show, Sansa isn't given time to process anything.
They also overlook the fact that Robb and Catelyn are completely shocked by the news of the marriage. If they're going to criticise Sansa for not predicting that the Lannisters would want to try and use her claim, why not her brother and mother?
You're completely right. Sansa is 12, and has never had reason to consider her claim before, and the dress fitting happens fairly shortly after she tells Dontos.
Then there’s this utterance by Cersei, publicly declaring Sansa and unfit match for Joffrey, and by plausible extension House Lannister:
Queen Cersei got to her feet in a rustle of skirts. "Your Grace, in the judgment of your small council, it would be neither proper nor wise for you to wed the daughter of a man beheaded for treason, a girl whose brother is in open rebellion against the throne even now.” (ACOK, Sansa VIII)
Olenna made the pretty brilliant move of placing herself and the Tyrells in opposition to the Lannisters. She knew what Joffrey was like, getting Sansa to tell her was about invoking a bond of secrecy, and right on the heels of that, she offers the invitation to Highgarden and the marriage/escape, followed by a social elevation from her status as social leper.
I.e., the Tyrells might not care about her disgraced state, but the Lannisters - in Sansa’s eyes - likely still do.
There is also a plausible explanation preventing her from making the connection.
She needed a new gown, that was true. She had grown three inches in the past year, and most of her old wardrobe had been ruined by the smoke when she'd tried to burn her mattress on the day of her first flowering.
Plus all the buzz surrounding the wedding. Sansa hanging out with the Tyrells makes an invitation likely, and might have prompted Cersei into trying to create a better appearance of their treatment of Sansa.
She would wear her new gown for the ceremony at the Great Sept of Baelor, she decided as the seamstress took her last measurement. That must be why Cersei is having it made for me, so I will not look shabby at the wedding.
Could a more cynical person still have made the connection? Yes. But that’s not Sansa, and GRRM introduced several explanations for why she doesn’t.

I can't make a single post about book Sansa without a bitch in my inbox calling her a 'raped bitch'. It's so funny like, 1. Sansa isn't raped in the books, 2. i know exactly the freaks who are saying that and it's just funny how they screech about feminism and how their fave is the most feminist on their blogs and then come and say that. It really doesn't matter how feminist your fave is, you're a rancid misogynistic pile of shit and you're saying the most vile things about serious world issues just for fictional stuff. No circle of hell is hot enough for you.

Why do I have read so often “privilege” as one of character flaws? Being privileged per se isn’t wrong. It’s just having easier time in some situation whereas others don’t have that luck.
Saying that Sansa is privileged and then claiming it as flaw is dumb at best, hypocritical at worst. ALL Starks are privileged. Arya and Jon included. Better, I’would say ALL asoiaf characters are privileged in one way or another.
If we really want to argue ‘bout this, privilege is, simply put, bad when used to harm others. Sansa used what left of her privilege in KL to save Dontos. Calm women by the time of battle. Help Lancel.
“I meant classism by it” Privilege and classism ain’t equivalent words. And that’ll be the end because people more used to put their thoughts into words wrote about this, so I don’t have to 😏.
