August 3, 2021 - day 8 📑
Today I:
Read m a n y essays from my sustainable reader book.
Made m a n y notes on aforementioned essays
Practiced Spanish on Duolingo
Reviewed notes from yesterday
Practiced lyre harp
I’ve been looking into some Sustainability Challenges TM to really dive into this degree headfirst. There’s still so much more I could be doing on a personal level to reduce my impact. I know that personal emissions aren’t really the main problem, but it’s somewhere to start, right? Do you guys have any sustainable products you’re especially fond of? Or have any of you heard of or participated in sustainability challenges before?
🎧 Listening to: The Last Reef by Dan Romer and Saul Simon McWilliams

2.26.21 - 32/100 days of productivity
- it’s my half birthday! officially survived half another year
- early two-hour desk shift - got one chapter of piano lit notes transcribed
- no classes today and i wasn’t scheduled to work my fast food job. i did spend time running around because i realized i lost my bluetooth pedal i use to turn pages while i read music off my ipad. :( at first i thought i put it somewhere stupid when moving things around between two bags (i try to not use my backpack if i have to walk across campus, especially with an instrument, and i have a smaller bag so i can pack lighter) but it’s nowhere in my room or my locker in the music building. i probably left it under a piano somewhere after practicing. i keep hoping someone will turn it in to the music office, and i emailed the music secretary to keep an eye out for it. that being said, all my orchestra music is on my ipad, so i had to move all my markings and bowings into my hard copies.
- did my laundry for the week and reorganized my dresser drawers. i’m really into organized clothes folding like marie kondo does. i find it really satisfying and my sock drawer makes me so happy right now. it’s the little things.
- orchestra concert! (with hard copies of music and page turns, but it turned out fine.) it went really well. my friend played her piano concerto and it was gorgeous. i’m a bit sad though because it’s my second to last concert as an undergrad. i was talking about it with my violin teacher after the concert, and she jokingly said, “well, i could always give you an incomplete on something so you’d have to come back another semester!”
- and now, it’s bedtime. tomorrow’s gonna be long. i work an early desk shift and then i’m working a double (~11 hours) at work because otherwise night shift is kinda screwed and it’s nice out so we’re gonna be busy.

Term Reflection ✨☁️
At the end of each term, I answer a few questions in my journal to reflect on the term: how I did, how I can improve, and what steps I should take. I’m going to share the questions and my answers for the last term under the cut!
1. What did you do well? 💡
I balanced five very difficult classes that had deadlines on top of each other at the end of the term, as well as worked a part-time job and participated in extracurricular activities. I really did an excellent job managing my time this term.
2. What did you do poorly? ❌
I was overly stressed about school. Once I submit something, I really have to commit to knowing that there is nothing more that I can do. I’ve already submitted my work, so there’s no point in worrying so much.
3. Why do you think those things went poorly? 💬
I'm just hard on myself.
4. What is your priority for next term? 🤓
Be more kind to myself. I would extend kindness and understanding to anyone in my situation, so I should treat myself with the same grace.
5. What will you try to work on next term? 📝
I’m going to be kinder to myself. I’ll also be submitting a grant and will submit my research abstract to be considered for a conference. Also, let’s maintain that 4.0. GPA baby!
6. How will you try to achieve these new goals and break bad habits? 😌
Be kinder to myself - I’m going to schedule in breaks and let myself relax if I need to, even if the class load seems overwhelming. I will continue to stay on top of my classes but I will take mental health days when I need to and will commit to getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night. This is my most important goal: life is so difficult right now, so I ought to be kinder to everyone, and that includes myself.
Grant submission - I want to submit it by the end of January, so I will spend the next week finalizing the budget and the following two weeks editing and refining it so I have the best chance of being awarded the grant.
Research abstract - This is a long-term goal, but I’m going to meet with my advisor next week to outline what I need to do to get this done. So, more on this later!
Maintain a 4.0. - I need to stay organized, continue to ask questions and ask for help when I need it, and not procrastinate. That’s all very doable and I expect myself to be able to achieve this goal with the right amount of work.
7. What was a high of this term? 🥳
On the same night I found out that I had been accepted into an independent research program starting in March AND that I had received funding for my project from the university. It was a very exciting night!
8. What was a low of this term? 😔
The end of the term is, as always, rough. However, I feel like I felt particularly burnt out at the end of this term. It was hard for me to even get out of bed. This is why being kind to myself throughout next term is a priority. I want to avoid this.
9. How did you grow this term? 🧠
I've become a more involved person. Even though I’m away from campus, I’ve become involved in two extracurriculars I was not previously involved in, and these extracurriculars have improved the quality of my life. It’s been so nice to have (remote) social events to look forward to!
Academically, I took multiple upper-division courses and did well. I'm excited about my curriculum for the rest of the academic year. I'm excited to continue learning.
10. What's one thing you're proud of that you did this term? 💕
I've maintained my 4.0. I've finished my STEM GE's. I’ve taken on leadership positions in my extracurricular activities. Those are admirable to me, and I’m proud of myself for achieving these things.
As an arts and humanities student, I’m so glad to be done with STEM. I’m so impressed with those of you who pursue it! But I am personally so excited to be done.
☁️✨ I hope this was helpful for you to read! Happy 2021 - may it treat us all with the kindness and gentleness we need - and good luck with your upcoming term! ✨☁️

So as school is starting officially this week for me I realized I didn’t have an efficient way of keeping track of my homework and events..etc. So I created this weekly overview for myself and a cute calendar with my studyblr theme.
I decided why keep this to myself..so I’m sharing these with all of you. Hope you enjoy!
Please reblog if you use these

8.9.2019 \\ 7/30 days of productivity
It’s more than two weeks since last posted day of productivity so here is an overview what I did in the meantime:
Studying and lot of revising. I had to retake my final exam and it started at 8am and because it’s almost four hour journey to my uni I slept in a cozy hotel pictured above 😍 I passed with A in toxicology (and in the first take I got B in chemistry) and I’m so proud of it tbh because during the four years I always barely passed at every exam. Hard work paid off and now I have a bachelor degree! 🎓 Two days later I went to an interview and got accepted to master’s course so in October I’m starting studying nanotechnology! I won’t enjoy much my gained freedom in September tho. On Saturday I’m leaving for a scientific conference in Italy (my colleague will present our research there) and right after that I’m going to a work trip around Germany.
The rest of September will be quite hectic but I can’t wait to see what it brings me!

Finished reading another book “I Love You, Call Me Back” and I am kinda disappointed in it. I pre-ordered it because I was excited for it, but it didn’t live up to what I expected.

The importance of a scholarship
As we have already said, that under study is a right enshrined in our own Constitution. It is unthinkable to justify or accept a society in which the most economically fortunate have access to education, while the less well-off do not.
Everyone should have an equal chance to receive adequate training and study. We are well aware, however, that enrolling at university entails a considerable expense for families. Not all parents have the opportunity to guarantee their children to continue their studies after compulsory school. Let's think of a family consisting of a father, mother and only one child. If both parents work and have an average salary, the chances of supporting their only child's college expenses will be high. In the case of a family unit made up of low-middle income parents and 3 children, the situation could turn out to be different. What to do at this point? Ask the new graduate child to drop out of university? Absolutely not! The alternative is to inquire about how to access the scholarship and check if you meet the requirements to obtain it.
As you will have understood, the scholarship we are dealing with is the one intended for university students. This is because elementary, middle and high schools are free and do not involve the payment of an annual fee.
The university, even in the case of the public one, provides for the payment of a tuition fee, again based on the economic conditions of the family unit. This fee is certainly lower than that required by private universities, but must still be paid. In addition, attending university involves additional expenses. There are students who live in small villages and are forced to go to university, commute or look for a room to rent. Books, rent, bills, food: these are additional expenses that the scholarship can help pay.
How to get the scholarship:
So far we have seen what the scholarship is and we have reasoned about how important it is to have financial help in order to study. Now let's deal with how to get the scholarship. First of all you need to know that there is a call for applications to participate in order to obtain the scholarship. This announcement presents the access procedures established by the body that makes the scholarships available. At the end of the call, the same institution will draw up the ranking with the names of the winning students
To obtain university scholarships, a specific application must be submitted to the institution that deals with the granting. The competition announcement takes place every year: we suggest interested students to inquire in time. Calls are usually published in July with a deadline of August / September. Once the application has been submitted, the rankings are ready between October and November.

I thought I’d share my favourite notebooks to use! I got these from Amazon and the paper is thick, soft and smooth. Not to mention you can get an app to scan your notes in (I haven’t used that function yet). I mainly use these for quick recall notes & worksheets. My lectures are all digital which is handy! How have you guys been studying at home?

1.28.21 - Day 4/100 days of productivity.
today was...a day. i'm kind of a homesick, high-anxiety, stressed out, hot mess at the moment. i'm lowkey surprised i got anything done at all today.
- skipped my morning meeting since i woke up with a headache in favor of going back to bed. i should have gone, but getting a little more sleep did take the edge off my headache so i could get through the rest of the day.
- worked a four-hour desk shift. took a quiz and submitted a short answer essay which was technically all i had due today. spent the rest of the shift playing zelda because i could not for the life of me focus on working ahead on academic assignments.
- took a much-needed two-hour nap and felt so much better after
- worked a completely awful work shift (i felt personally victimized by how badly it went) but didn't actually cry or yell at anyone there. and then came home and took a shower and cried. talked to my mom about possibly going home next week. which made me feel a bit better. and now i'm going back to sleep.
moral of the story: productivity is a relative concept and honestly i'm proud i got what i needed to done today. even though i know i could have and should have done more. because days this bad in the past, i've gotten nothing done. you gotta listen to yourself and understand that your best looks different every day depending on what else you have going on and what else is going on around you. "could" and "should" are words that don't belong here. here's hoping tomorrow goes a little bit better.
