@panic-and-procrastinate
(Hoping this is actually the same person that I was just reblogging from and kind of talking to), scooby and batman crossover a few times.
It starts with two episodes of "the new scooby doo movies" where they meet batman and Robin. Can't remember which Robin.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Not sure if these are the same episode, it's been a fuck all long time since I've watched either.
THEN we have "scooby doo meets batman" which was released as a home video. Have not seen that yet at all, and it tends to get forgotten.
Tumblr media
Can't tell, but I think they meet a Robin in this one too.
Most recent one was "scooby doo and batman: the brave and the bold" which used the batman universe from the brave and bold cartoon. They also met other heroes, but I've only seen it once so I can't remember all of them.
Tumblr media
But all of this is just television/movies. We can go deeper and I absolutely plan to.
DC comics has a run of "scooby doo where are you comics"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both of these covers do not match monsters from the tv show, but they use character models that look similar to the ones from the where are you tv show. I haven't read any, so I can't speak to their quality. But, all DC comics are connected so there's a scooby doo u inverse you should easily reach from comic book batman.
But we aren't done yet! Theres also just a "scooby doo series"
Tumblr media
Again, haven't read it. But it'd another DC made comic about scooby do, so another way there from batman.
HOLD UP THOUGH!!! Cause there is also the "scooby doo team up series"
Tumblr media
Where scooby teams up with batman at least one more time.
BUT WAIT! THERES MORE!!!! theres also the limited series "the batman and scooby doo mysteries"
Tumblr media
So you may not even have to go looking to find the talking dog.
And, if you want a more edgy take on scooby doo (and the only one I've ready a few volumes from) we have "scooby apocalypse"
Tumblr media
Which I have fucking enjoyed but ive only read 3 volumes.

Cartoon Network Friday Spotlight: The New Scooby-Doo Movies- “The Spirit Spooked Sports Show”
Tumblr media
The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries is the second Scooby series to be made, airing just after Where Are You? and before The Scooby-Doo Show’s return to form, and it feels like a logical next part, containing similar aesthetics and the same musical cues that made the original series instantly iconic. Yet, these episodes aren’t quite as strong, stretching the formula into double length without adding much justification for the length besides to show off whichever special guest they could score that week. While we would get solid feature length Scooby stories even 15 years later, I don’t think Hanna-Barbera’s crew at the time were ready to make the characters fit into extended periods at this time.
Some episodes are more iconic than others, with the Batman and Harlem Globetrotters episodes widely available in individual videos before getting partly-complete DVD releases. It helps that Batman, Robin and the Globetrotters remain recognizable to this day, but a lot of actual celebrity appearances feel closer tied to their day, like Tim Conway here. While Scooby continues to draw kids in to this day, I don’t think there were many young fans of The Carol Burnett Show when stories like this were airing frequently on CN in the late 90′s and early 2000′s... but hey, prove me wrong! (I’d suspect that I have more fans of his Disney work with fellow Scooby guest star Don Knotts on here)
But anyway, onto the story. In this one, Velma has the gang drive to her old high school- which begs the question, how old are the Mystery Inc gang, and if they didn’t go to the same high school, how did they meet?- to view and participate in their upcoming sports expo. The problem is that the school is haunted by the ghost of the school’s most iconic athlete, who has scared away anyone who dares to take his place, and is threatening the closer of the school, as one of their biggest backers is planning to fall out if they can’t support one winning team.
Tim Conway factors in because he’s signed up as the school’s coach to gain real world experience for a movie and wow does this sound convoluted for a damn Scooby-Doo story. But because these are meddling kids, they insist on sticking around to help Mr. Conway and the school, but the ghost keeps coming around and messing with them.
It’s fun enough, but does feel bloated as a double length classic Scooby story that doesn’t need to be so long. Still, it’s fun to see Tim Conway match Scooby and Shaggy as the biggest coward on campus, and see the latter two become shockingly decent athletes. I also dig how old-timey the ghost looks, like a remnant of the gay 90′s. I believe you can get this and most of the other episodes in the recent almost full series release- IIRC, only the Addams Family episodes are missing.

Kevin Conroy and Jason David Frank
I don’t look it, but I’m 37, soon to be 38, years old.  I’m a child of the 1990s and I’m a geek.  I grew up with the DCAU and Power Rangers – and the past couple of weeks, reality took a baseball bat to my childhood’s balls. First with the death of Kevin Conroy, then the death of Jason David Frank.
Batman and Tommy Oliver are dead: By cancer and possibly suicide respectively.
I didn’t even get the chance to meet either one – but it still hurts knowing they’re gone.  It’s taken a bit of time to compose my thoughts on these events, so I feel like I should share them.
Everyone who’s known me for a long time knows I’m a massive DC fan. But Conroy, believe it or not, wasn’t really my first Batman.  Believe it or not, thanks to reruns, that’s Adam West.  I remember wanting a Batman action figure from the toyline based on the first Keaton Batman movie due to it color scheme matching the suit West wore (and the comics) and despite him not being in the film, being happy that Robin got a figure in the Batman Returns toyline. Speaking of the latter film, that’s where Batman: TAS comes in, since it was a tie-in for Returns.
Like a lot of people my age, I watched Batman: TAS.  I wish I could say that even as a kid, I knew how special it’d be when I first saw it – but while I did like the show, my first impressions, due to familiarity with the West show and the Keaton films were “Why do Alfred and Commissioner Gordon look like this?” (unaware that’s how they looked in the comics) and “This doesn’t sound like what I was expecting.”  Of course, that went away after watching the show a bit more and the DCAU grew.
Like most kids, I also grew up with Power Rangers, though thanks to the local channel airing the show in the morning, I missed out early on until they shifted it to the afternoon some months later, so I missed out on quite a bit, including Tommy’s introduction and wouldn’t learn his origin until reruns.  Still, he was part of the team when I really got into the series and I was saddened the first time Tommy left (imagine what’d happened if they’d actually had Tommy die like his first Sentai counterpart Burai), and then again during season 2 before the mysterious White Ranger kids were waiting all season for turned out to be him.  Unlike his costars, he lasted until midway through Turbo, but I kept up with the series until the end of In Space, leaving only with the start of Lost Galaxy.  In fact, the Wild Force episode “Forever Red” was the only time I made an effort to watch the show – and it was due to him, Jason, TJ, and Andros.
Back to Batman, I didn’t really tune out of the DCAU, though I did most of Batman Beyond after season 1 and The Zeta Project and Static Shock, but that was due to wanting to sleep in as opposed to waking up in the morning.  Still, I did see most of the crossover episodes of Static Shock and I did tune in for Justice League.  In fact, my favorite DCAU show was JL due to seeing multiple heroes appearing, even after stupid mandates affected Batman’s supporting cast and villains’ appearances on the show (look up the term “Bat-Embargo if you’re interested in stupidity).  After the JLU finale “Destroyer”, that seemed to be it for Conroy as Batman himself; he appeared in the first episode of season 4 of 2004’s The Batman cartoon as Dick Grayson’s dad.
Then came the animated film Batman: Gotham Knight, a tie in to The Dark Knight – supposedly set between Batman Begins and TDK.  Supposedly being set in that universe, Batman wasn’t voiced by Christian Bale like one would expect – but by Conroy.  Then came the Superman/Batman films, Justice League: Doom, the Arkham games, the Injustice games, the Killing Joke adaptation, Infinite Crisis, Justice League Action, LEGO DC Super Villains, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who, even the recent MultiVersus, all featuring Conroy as Bruce Wayne, along with a number of his DCAU co-stars (though it varied based on what we’re talking about) in tow including Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker himself) as the Joker, Tim Daly or George Newbern as Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Ed Asner as Granny Goodness, Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, and Michael Ironside as Darkseid. Hell, even the DCAU itself did get revisited with a mobile VR game and two sequel films, Batman and Harley Quinn and Justice League Vs. the Fatal Five.  While I liked a lot of the other DC productions, a lot of the times, the DCAU, Arkham, and Injustice casts were the voices I heard.
While I didn’t actively tune into Power Rangers anymore, I did occasionally watch it if it came on the TV and didn’t feel like changing channels.  That said, I did go out to see the remake movie in 2017, which featured Frank and Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly) in a cameo at the end.  The post-credits stinger even set up an appearance for Tommy in a sequel – one that, due to the film’s performance, would never come.  Even for all of the film’s issues (including the recurring problems of Power Rangers films barely featuring scenes of the heroes in costume), I liked it.
One of my hobbies is fanfiction (fan-written stories) and another is fancasting (hypothetically “casting” actors in roles).  A fanfic idea I’d been kicking around, but never actually gotten around to writing, was something called “Multiversal War”, where different things I’d like would meet each other to stop threats from each other’s universe – ad as you can imagine, a lot of my “casting choices” for DC characters were DCAU voice actors, including, yes, Conroy as Batman.  Even had Frank “as” Tommy and the Emissary, a character from the Transformers: Prime Wars web series.
Granted, a lot of deaths of other actors also affected my “choices”, but truth be told, Conroy’s passing is what made me tempted to just give up ever writing Multiversal War.  I could respond to the passing and retiring of others by sliding someone else in the role, but even trying it with Batman, maybe it’s due to me being the Spectrum, it didn’t feel “right”; it felt off.  Every time I think I got something workable, it didn’t feel right.
Granted, I could work around the passing of Frank as well (just replace the Emissary with Spike Witwicky for Fortress Maximus as it was with the earlier Headmasters stuff and write out Tommy), I still grew up with Power Rangers for a long time and Tommy was still my favorite Ranger.
There’s a lot of actors I thought whose passing we’d talk long before Conroy and Frank, including Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime from the original Transformers cartoon, the live-action movies and even some recent stuff), Peter Weller (the original RoboCop), Patrick Stewart, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger, but as of November 10 and 20 respectively, that’s no longer a thing.  There’s been speculation that Conroy was sick for years, but given it was years of speculation, I didn’t put much thought into it recently anymore than I did then.  And, as someone who suffers from depression myself, it’s still hard to accept that even famous people can also suffer from it and as I generally don’t keep up with actors’ daily lives, I didn’t know Frank lost a stepdaughter nor that he was going through a divorce.
So, like a lot of people, their deaths took me by surprise and I was in a state of shock after reading about them when I woke up.
So, how do I feel after writing all of this?
Still hurting (after all two of my childhood heroes died), but feeling a little better writing it and sharing my thoughts.  Hopefully, this helps me and hopefully, I didn’t ramble too much.

Debut of the Day: Batman and Robin meet Scooby-Doo for the first time in William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair”, the second episode of the television show ‘The New Scooby-Doo Movies’ airing on CBS September 16, 1972.
The Batman has joined forces with Scooby and the gang on many occasions, beginning shortly after Scooby-Doo’s debut #onthisday in 1969. While Batman comics began returning to their more Gothic nature in the 1970s, the animated television of the time were still reminiscent of the POP Art aesthetic of the 1960s. Due to this, it was fitting that in 1972, Batman and Robin were guest stars on the Hanna-Barbera show ‘The New Scooby-Doo Movies’ originally airing on CBS.
In “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair”, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo in the Mystery Machine and Batman (Olan Soulé) and Robin (Casey Kasem, who also voiced Shaggy) meet for the first time when they both begin to investigate who is behind a counterfeit money ring and how the classic villains of The Joker (Larry Storch) and The Penguin (Ted Knight) are part of these schemes.
Batman and Scooby would team up in other projects, such as December 1972’s The New Scooby-Doo Movies’ “The Caped Crusader Caper”, the 2018 animated film “Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold”, and in the 2019 ‘Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?’ episode “What a Night for a Dark Knight!”, which pays homage to the first ever “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” episode titled “What a Night for a Knight" from September 13, 1969. 📺🙏🏽

Detective Comics #40 Released 1940-06-05
Summary: The first appearance of Clayface!
Now hold up- Clayface has a hatchet. Is he Chinese?
Tumblr media
First off I’ve learned that Bruce’s fiancée is named Julie and she is an actress who will be performing in the movie Dread Castle. At the studio she’s working at, we meet Basil Karlo, one of the greatest makeup artists and character actors of all time! He’s come to wish good luck to Ken Todd, the man who is taking over his role in this remake (guess we were getting remakes even in 1940). Unfortunately, Karlo was kinda wild and trashed his reputation, so audiences won’t go see him act anymore. At the same time, the director of the movie, Ned Norton, is getting fired for being a flake. He promises revenge. And also at the same time, we see actress Lorna Dane, the star of the movie, in a loud breakup with her boyfriend. Turns out she breaks up with a lot of boyfriends. The peanut gallery calls her a gold digger. The jilted boyfriend says he “ought to kill” her so really there is just a whole lot going on in this issue.
This sure is a line :)
Tumblr media
Oh wait did you think we had all our shady people done with for this issue? Nope! Now we have some gangster, Roxy Brenner, approach the owner of the studio, Bentley, and demand protection money, which Bentley refuses. Bruce agrees that shit is wack at this studio.
Tumblr media
A few days later, Bruce comes to visit Julie on set while a scene is being filmed of Lorna Dane being killed by the “Terror”. This guy is also there– in the shadows, naturally.
Tumblr media
The lights go out and when they come back, Lorna Dane is dead. I gotta say, they really ran with this being the Hollywood issue. I love how fucking dramatic this dude is.
Tumblr media
The police investigate but find nothing. When the movie continues production, Julie worries she might be next because she will be filming a scene where she is killed by the “Terror”. Batman and Robin are on the case!
Tumblr media
They see Bentley arguing with Roxy Brenner and some lackeys. They jump in to help; Robin is called an elf.
Tumblr media
Batman asks Roxy if he killed Lorna Dane and he admits that he was just using her death to his advantage to threaten Bentley, but he wasn’t actually involved. Batman next goes to see Fred Walker, Lorna’s ex-boyfriend, at his home to see if it was him. He ends up finding Walker trapped in his closet. Walker is on the verge of death but says it was Clayface before he croaks.
Robin, on the other hand, is still on the movie set. He sees a light on and goes to investigate, where he’s attacked by the spooky masked man. And honestly every panel Clayface is in, he genuinely looks so creepy.
Tumblr media
Robin gets a nice knife dodge but then he trips on a lamp and knocks himself out 😭 Clayface throws him into a moat (which was built for the set). Thankfully, Batman is there to save him.
The next day, Julie is filming her scene and Clayface prepares to kill her. Batman expects it and is waiting to thwart him. He and Robin catch and tie up Clayface for a proper Scooby Doo-esque unmasking. It turns out the character of Clayface was from a movie and the role is being reprised by none other than Basil Karlo. He was bitter about being replaced in Dread Castle. But why kill Lorna and Julie instead of Ken Todd? Karlo has just played too many horror roles so he felt compelled to follow the plot of Dread Castle and kill people in order. ...Okay. (also he killed Fred Walker cause Walker recognized him and blackmailed him)
Julie is once again bemoaning how lame Bruce is compared to Batman. I’ve got doubts about their relationship.. (but I think I’ll stop there for the 40s comics so guess I’ll never know if they break up).

Characters:
Nothing much to say. Batman’s still pretty quippy at this point so that’s something. Unfortunately you only get one example because I reached the image limit for this post.
