The Disability Library

I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.

And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!

As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!

SUMMARY

XXII. (3.04) — Flint and his crew are captured by islanders, marched to a hidden village and imprisoned; Flint identifies their captors as escaped slaves. Rogers tells Eleanor he wants her as his counsellor during his move onto Nassau. Jack blows up the fort so that Vane can escape to Teach's ship; on the ship, Teach shows Vane that Eleanor is aboard a British vessel, and later wonders where his loyalties lie. Rogers and his men believe they have trapped the remaining pirates until a single ship begins moving across the bay; when it is closer to the British fleet, Vane lights the ship on fire and jumps overboard. At the village, Flint tells Silver that the islanders will kill them because they cannot risk their secret being revealed. Under the cover of darkness, Mr. Scott approaches the slaves who escaped from the fort but is challenged by two British sailors and injured by the exchange of gunfire. The slaves load him into a boat and make for the open ocean.

XXXVII. (4.09) — Flint and Silver's crew follow Rogers' ship to Skeleton Island. On Skeleton Island, Flint and Dooley set off to hide the treasure, while Silver sends 6 men after them. A flashback is intermittent where Flint teaches Silver how to sword-fight. Rogers tries to convince Madi to accept his treaty. Jack and his crew also set sail for Skeleton Island. Flint and Silver's ship catches fire.

On February 15th 1986 Scotland scored their biggest ever win against England in a rugby international.

This remains a record margin of victory for the Scots in the history of the Calcutta Cup and turned into one of those rare afternoons where they completely overwhelmed England, wining the second half 21-0 in the process.

John Beattie flattened Wade Dooley straight from the kick-off and, with the England lock seeing stars for the rest of the match, the Scots ripped through their opponents.

The hosts scored three tries, from Matt Duncan, Scott Hastings and John Rutherford, while Gavin Hastings landed the trio of conversions and added another five penalties as his compatriots took charge. A brace of Rob Andrew penalties was all that England had to show for their labours and this result left scars among several in their ranks.

Scotland have won our last three meetings with the English, two of those victories have happened at Twickenham, so often the graveyard for Scottish championship dreams.

Salt could play key role in energy transition

The study describes how large underground salt deposits could serve as hydrogen holding tanks, conduct heat to geothermal plants, and influence CO2 storage. It also highlights how industries with existing salt expertise, such as solution mining, salt mining, and oil and gas exploration, could help. “We see potential in applying knowledge and data gained from many decades of research, hydrocarbon exploration, and mining in salt basins to energy transition technologies,” said lead author Oliver Duffy, a research scientist at the bureau. “Ultimately, a deeper understanding of how salt behaves will help us optimize design, reduce risk, and improve the efficiency of a range of energy transition technologies.” The study was published in the journal Tektonika. Salt has an influential role in shaping Earth’s subsurface layers. It is easily squeezed by geologic forces into complex and massive deposits, with some subsurface salt structures taller than Mount Everest. These structures and their surrounding geology offer a number of opportunities for energy development and emissions management, said study co-author Lorena Moscardelli, the director of the bureau’s State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) program. “The co-location of surface infrastructure, renewable energy potential, favorable subsurface conditions and proximity to markets is key to plan for subsurface hydrogen storage,” she said. “STARR is currently engaged with emerging energy opportunities in West Texas that involve hydrogen and carbon capture, utilization and storage potential for the region.” Salt domes are proven containers for hydrogen used by oil refineries and the petrochemical industry. According to the paper, these salt formations could also be put to use as holding pens for hydrogen bound for energy production. What’s more, the porous rock surrounding them could be used as a permanent storage spot for CO2 emissions. The study describes the potential benefits of co-locating hydrogen production from natural gas called “blue hydrogen” and CO2 storage. While the hydrogen is sent to salt caverns, the CO2 emissions generated by production could be kept from the atmosphere by diverting them to the surrounding rock for permanent storage. With its numerous salt domes surrounded by porous sedimentary rock, the Texas Gulf Coast is particularly well suited for this type of combined production and storage, according to the researchers. The study also touches on how salt can aid in the adoption of next-generation geothermal technology. Although the industry is still in its early stages, the researchers show how it can make use of salt’s ability to easily conduct heat from warmer underlying rocks to produce geothermal power. Bureau Director Scott Tinker said that because salt has a role to play in developing new energy resources, it’s important that multiple avenues are thoroughly explored. He said that researchers at the bureau are playing a critical role in doing just that. “Bureau researchers have been studying subsurface salt formations for many decades. For their role in hydrocarbon exploration, as part of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, for storage of natural gas, and now for their potential to store hydrogen,” he said. “That’s the remarkable thing about great research. It just keeps evolving, improving and finding new applications.” Additional co-authors include current and former bureau researchers Michael Hudec, Frank Peel, Gillian Apps, Alex Bump, Tim Dooley, Naiara Fernandez, Shuvajit Bhattacharya, Ken Wisian and Mark Shuster. STARR funded the research. Their work complements research of other bureau research groups focused on the energy transition, such as GeoH2, AGL and HotRock. The bureau is a research unit of the UT Jackson School of Geosciences.

Munster take on Connacht in Thomond Park this Saturday 7.35pm

Munster take on Connacht in Thomond Park this Saturday 7.35pm, and it promises to be another interprovincial cracker this weekend.

The sides last met in October when Connacht edged out Munster in a 20-11 win in Galway.

The URC gets back underway this weekend, with the inter-provincial derby between Munster and Connacht the pick of the fixtures.

Neither Munster or Connacht have enjoyed an ideal start to the season, as the southern province find themselves in 14th place after seven rounds, while their western rivals are sitting in 12th.

Munster should be full of confidence after they defeated South Africa A at Páirc Uí Chaoimh during the international break, as they look to kick start their season.

Munster v Connacht: How can I watch the game live on TV?

The match will be aired live on Saturday, November 26th on TG4, the TG4 Player and Premier Sports 1. Coverage on TG4 starts at 7pm, while coverage on Premier Sports starts at 7.25pm. Kickoff is at 7.35pm.

URC TV is also showing the game, with a range of options available to viewers. Customers can buy a one-off stream of Munster v Connacht for €7.99.

Other options include a monthly access pass for €6.99 per month, which gives customers access to every URC fixture, or a season-long pass for a one-off fee of €41.99.

It will be the first game on the new artificial surface at the Sportsground. Munster have won on three of their last four visits to Galway but Connacht have won two of the last three games between the provinces.
