Give bowlers a hand by allowing them to change which arm they deliver the cricket ball with betting id
Today Sam Tomkinson argues that bowlers should be able change the arm they ultimately deliver the ball with during their run up. Do you agree?
Tumblr media
Evolution is a constant in all aspects of life, not just athletics. You will be left behind if you remain stationary. In technology, you can run out of customers and become outdated. You are the Serengeti's lunch. When playing sports, you begin to lose—badly. Old techniques become obsolete as India learned in the T20 World Cup Semifinal, as cricket advances.
Although players had started experimenting with the switch hit and the reverse sweep, it was Kevin Pietersen in 2008 who first got people's attention and got them thinking about the potential of this stroke. Scott Styris could only smirk as KP struck him for two maximums while batting in the left-handed position (which is his typical set-up).
Today, batters employ this as a practical shot in all formats. Consider David Warner vs. Gayle in the Canada T20 and Joe Root in the most recent Rawalpindi Test Match. Some players are so used to employing this strategy that they have started to take this up as a stance before the bowler has released the ball.
But ought should this be permitted by them? Before bowling, a bowler must inform the batter of their action or risk a no ball. A batter does not need to state which "armed" they are even though the stance is pretty obvious. The sole repercussion is that, in the event of a lbw appeal, all stumps are now in play.
This was a positive change that gave the bowler more of a chance.
The bowlers, on the other hand, have not been permitted to adapt in the same way that the batters' abilities have changed. Therefore, my suggestion is to permit the bowler to switch bowling hands mid-run up. However, why do bowlers have to let the batsman (or umpire) know which arm they will ultimately use to deliver the ball? Of course, they cannot change the side of the wicket they are bowling from because doing so would result in havoc.
This seems like the next logical advancement for the game, in my opinion. Why can't bowlers have the same luxury as batters, who can set up as either right- or left-handers to open up the entire field, and fielders, who are now practising their weaker hand to improve their skill set?
Although Kamindu Mendis possesses an exceptional skill that might offer an extra layer to the game both tactically and as entertainment, his ability to bowl with both hands has little effect because he must explicitly state his changeup. Because it is so difficult to perfect, bowling with both hands should be encouraged rather than prohibited.
Would this spark a commotion? Maybe. The switch finally did hit though. Additionally, it would level the field in a game that is increasingly dominated by batters.
Some change would be necessary from a descriptive standpoint (on commentary). What do you think of a bowler that can use both arms? Fast Mixed? Flexible Quick and Medium? But this is only a small issue.
So now is the time to try out my proposal, possibly in The Hundred or T10 first to see how it goes. But this rule modification might not just be a publicity stunt; it might be the next step in cricket's dynamic development.

India batter KL Rahul is going through rough phase after suffering an injury and then testing positive for COVID-19. According to former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris, KL Rahul's absence has given golden opportunities to players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, etc, and now selectors would be thinking "do they actually need" the star batter. Rahul was named in the T20I squad for the series against West Indies but, he was ruled out after testing COVID-19 positive days ahead of the series."It's a different mindset for players because they don't want to be out and they don't want to be giving other players opportunities. I know India has a very good culture within its group, so it doesn't mind allowing other players opportunities all the time. I know as a player myself, you never wanted to give somebody else a chance to take your spot," said Scott Styris on SPORTS18's show SPORTS OVER THE TOP."So with the fact that he's out injured and he's away from the team at the moment, it just means that other players are able to do what Suryakumar is doing, what Rishabh Pant is doing, getting in there, taking the chance scoring runs and really posing the selectors some questions saying, do we actually need KL Rahul? Is he going to be in good form when he comes back? He has missed a lot of cricket, a lot of question marks now present themselves just because he's been able to give other players that opportunity," he added.Ahead of testing COVID-19 positive, Rahul had suffered an injury before the T20I series against South Africa, and he did not feature in the five-match series.Last week, Rahul had issued a lengthy statement, saying testing positive for COVID-19 has pushed his return to the international arena "back by a couple of weeks", but he aims to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection. Taking to Twitter, Rahul wrote: "Hey guys, I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the team's tour of the West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19."Promoted"This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as I can. To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue," he added.India also announced squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, beginning August 18. Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the side while Deepak Chahar has made a comeback after recovering from an injury.Topics mentioned in this article Source
