In the midst of attempting a creative writing challenge from one of the forums I’m a part of, I thought -- why not bug more people? 

Write one sentence [three adjectives, no less -- more is a plus, as long as the sentence remains stable] that encapsulates the aesthetics you associate with your muse. It need not be entirely accurate, since the muse can be a fickle, troublesome thing at times. Give it a whirl.

No cheating/revising. Think stream of consciousness. [the idea of writing words like flowing ink]

Sight: Fleeting rays of brilliant sunlight that flicker through brooding storm clouds that decorate the sky like blurry splotches of ink; an aftermath of a particularly violent storm.   

Sound: The oddly delicious crunch of dead leaves underfoot, while a distant echo of a crashing waterfall pinches the peaceful silence of dark, dreary woods.

Scent: Faint peppermint, coloured with a lingering scent of earthy herbs and the telltale, barely there presence of mustard oil which clings more to three pronged kunai than himself. 

Symbolic imagery [inanimate]: A particularly worn, ivy covered tree trunk that failed the test of time, yet somehow stands rooted in place with a singular fern poking its head from dead bark.

Eyes carefully watched the Snake, noting any and every movement just in case the older male tried something right now. Orochimaru didn’t scare him, but he surely did put the young Uchiha boy on edge. Even with the hair sticking up on the back of his neck, against his better judgment, Sasuke stood with ground with his chin raised. 

"Fear isn't an emotion I feel." Convincing himself and hopefully the Sannin. Why'd it have to be this creep that could promise Sasuke the power needed to kill Itachi? “I’m here to train under you and I’d rather not play into your stupid games.”

How long has it been since we’ve been writing partners? I honestly can’t recall a time from before, now. ^^’ You’re awesome, Munch-munch. I will never understand why you have so much self doubt with your writing - its foolish, really. Your writing is AMAZING! I love the imagery you create. I highly respect the devotion you display for each character you have ever taken up. Your world building skills are the best I’ve ever seen. Stop beating yourself up over it, please. ^__^ Or I’ll start doing the actual beating, one of these days. -_-

YOU ARE THE REASON I GOT INTO WRITING SUCH LONG REPLIES!! I can still clearly remember the day I first came across you and your writing. I was fascinated then. I’m fascinated now. Where the Insomaniac inspired my desire to develop crazy plots, you inspired me to always work on ensuring my characters very essence is present in every line I write. I’m still learning that. You’re still inspiring me. You write so BEAUTIFULLY, it always leaves me in awe. Every line is perfection.

For the most part, you are totally shy and don't go looking for any trouble, but when someone confronts you, it is game on. When someone makes you mad, you don't stop until that person is destroyed entirely. Just like the Black Mamba, when you bite back, it is pretty much always fatal for your opponent.

Someone was here.

Orochimaru’s head lifted from the scroll he’d been engrossed in, senses alert to the intruder, fingers instinctively going for the kunai in his belt. They paused at the pocket flap, however, as he focused on the chakra signature; whoever was outside wasn’t moving or making any attempt to hide himself, but that didn’t always mean one could relax their guard, even if this was Konoha. Frowning, he rose from his desk, irritated at the interruption, but kept his hand near his hip pouch as he made for the front door. The signal grew stronger, and he could now sense a nervousness huddling beneath the stillness. Just as well. So few people dared to venture near his home these days, and not without good reason. A Sannin he might be, and a celebrated star of the village, but the admiration for this third member came from something other than the simple hero worship Jiraiya and Tsunade inspired. Not that he minded. It gave him more time to attend to actually important matters. Dropping his hand from the kunai, he flicked the locks open, fingers sketching out a release to the seal he’d placed over the handle as an extra layer of protection and privacy. The aged wood groaned quietly as it was pulled open, revealing a young face, bright blue eyes peering back at him with uncertainty. “Minato-kun.” The name is acid, burning and dripping from a poisonous smile. “To think that you would grace my doorstep, of all people. I take it you need something, or else you wouldn’t be here.”

He would have flinched at the tone had he not been engulfed by the sudden realization that maybe, despite his much celebrated - and oft exaggerated - genius, coming here might not have been the best of ideas. Needless to say, the Sanin’s ire was certainly not lost on this one.

Neither was that look in his eye. Did Orochimaru always look at people like they were akin to the dirt encrusting the bottom of his sandals?

Yare ne, maybe he should have camped out in the archives after all. The librarian probably wouldn’t have even minded much.

“Summimasen for interrupting your--” Blue hues almost flickered past the elder but he reined his curiosity in at the last moment, “--work, but I was wondering if you had visited the jutsu archives recently...” Trailing off, he met the elder’s gaze, no longer as hesitant as he had been, initially. 

“I can’t seem to find the Nindaime’s records.” Tan digits retreated to his side as he spoke, “You wouldn’t happen to have them would you?”

Academic interests aside, the Nindaime’s prized records also happened to be a matter of internal security. Seldom a shinobi was ever given access to it; Minato himself had recently gotten permission to access it because of the similarity between his chakra imbued seals and the deceased Senju’s hiraishin.

They were practically the same technique. His simply happened to be... tweaked.

1. I adore angst - gut wrenching, tears inducing angst. ^^ I prefer exploring the psyche of characters, the darker aspects; coupled with evidence from canon -- the more insight into their heads, the better. That goes for conversations likewise. I love to talk about character/jutsu/lore development. I have been cited as annoying in this regards, in the past XD feel free to tell me to shut up if I babble too much. 

2. I suffer from a...mild case of insomnia, as I would like to term my many, many sleepless nights. During such times, I tend to lean towards fluff/crack/gut wrenching angst ._. er..I may bother you out of the blue ^^; legit. Even if you’re a recent follower/I recently started following you. Apologies in advance, ne? 

3. I...don’t get memes/certain pop culture references ._.’’ Ano, I share flake sensei’s ignorance in that department. I mean...you’ve seen flake sensei’s responses, right? The few asks, apart from the trolls, that he gets? That should paint an accurate picture. 

4. Ah yes. Shipping. I’ll be blunt; its hard -- not that I’m against it, its just...have you met the muse? He’s a moron when it comes to these things; someone who doesn’t trust easily and, despite being a floof is still the Yellow Flash. This is why my rules state chemistry - if the thread sways in said territory, all’s good! The reason why I’m mentioning it here is...well, shipping or no, it shouldn’t stop us from writing together, ne? There are so many possibilities...so many AUs that we could explore. +_+ Feel free to talk to flake sensei; his sparkles are just a distraction from his innate flakiness.

A Scaly Glitch in Time

“--And since we recommended it to the Hokage, he’s willing to make an exception but just this time.”

“...”

“I hope you realise how lucky you are. Not everyone gets the opportunity...” Her words faded as his gaze slid to the floor, tracing the spidery cracks etched there. Mitarashi Kimiko, his current homeroom Chunin instructor, walked with purposeful strides, her sandaled feet echoing faint clicks against the surface as his own silent footfalls followed a few paces behind her. They paused in front of a door, only for Mitarashi sensei to pull it open and practically yank him inside.

“If you’re lucky, you might even-- oi, Namikaze.” 

And Minato hadn’t been paying attention. Blue hues blinked before flickering to the agitated orbs of one Mitarashi sensei who was staring at him with folded arms and an exasperated pinch of her brows.

Whoops. 

“Hai, sensei.” 

Mitarashi sensei gave a short nod in turn, “Like I said...this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, don’t ruin it.” Her voice was stern, but her gaze had softened [And Minato would forever be thankful that people found it hard to stay angry with him - especially his instructors]. The Chunin’s hand clapped on his shoulder in what was supposedly a comforting gesture before she took her leave, the door clicking shut behind her. The Namikaze stared at the empty room before blond brows furrowed, contemplative. 

Jōnin sensei, ka? As exciting as the thought was, Minato couldn’t help but fidget a little as tan digits tapped a staccato against a clothed arm. He was hailed as a genius, one born every decade and was rumoured to be on track to breaking the Sandaime’s own record at the Ninja Academy. In fact, he wasn’t even supposed to get a Jōnin sensei until he graduated properly; but apparently his seemingly stellar grades had been reason enough to get him acquainted, at least. 

As such, he was not...prone to failure, neither did he know the taste of disappointment. ‘Jōnin’ represented the highest rungs of the ladder, second only to the esteemed Hokage himself; who was the highest seat of government. 

He wasn’t nervous, per se, more like...slightly terrified.

Would Chunin Minato ever survive Orochimaru's curse mark? How would he deal with it in the first place? What if he got marked on the field? Jiraiya would be too busy traveling to know

Considering this to be a very hypothetical scenario? Yes. Minato, as clanless as he may be, was an exceptionally resilient little bugger with an equally strong will. Chunin Minato would survive. 

That brings me to the scenario itself though --- you realize Orochimaru was still in the blueprints stage with regards to his various experiments by the time Minato was a Chunin, right? Second Shinobi War and whatnot? Orochimaru would be too busy in the war efforts to pay attention to a no-name blond like flake sensei. Minato, at that time, was still playing around with fuuinjutsu and developing the Hiraishin - at least, his version of it. 

I’m going to take the liberty of assuming by ‘field’ you’re not just asking with regards to Minato as a Chunin -- his Jōnin self was in the field plenty. Though by that time, he was too well known for Orochimaru to put a curse mark on. The snake Sanin had a penchant for secrecy and...well, there’s still no reason for him to mark Minato unless “out of spite”. [ask serpentumvectum for this one. Amazing writer, really!] Even so, Minato is one resilient flake - he would have been able to counter it somehow [should his own knowledge fail, there’s always an Uzumaki seal master and a gama sage, ne?].

With regards to the gama sage however - Jiraiya would know. He’s not the sort to not keep tabs on people he cares about -- I imagine he’s still establishing his spy network at the time, despite the traveling around. He was just as skilled at fuuinjutsu as Orochimaru [generally speaking], he would be able to suppress it better than Kakashi when it came to Sasuke’s curse mark.

Whether or not he’d confront Orochimaru about it though? That’s another matter altogether. I’m no expert on the Sanin, but I can definitely recommend a few.
