ok, what is shera exactly about? a lot of people i know like it but i'm not really aware of the plot lol. also, are there any references to he-man in it?

so i'm not really familiar at all with the original She-Ra, I just know it's based on He-Man. I know there are absolutely references to He-Man in the original She-Ra, but there aren't any in the reboot, because instead of her being He-Man's twin sister, she's a magical princess whose persona never dies, but is passed on through an unbroken line of She-Ras who are granted power of her at their birth. So her identity is its own thing in the reboot, moreso than in the original!

but as to the plot, it all takes place on the planet Etheria. Etheria has a naturally strong balance of magic, balanced by the 5 runestones that correspond to one of the 5 princesses. Over 1,000 years ago, the planet was settled by a people called the First Ones. They tried to study and interpret that balance of magic, but they they kinda turned evil and tried to harness it for themselves. They turned the whole planet into a power source called the Heart of Etheria, so powerful that if activated, would destroy the whole universe. So, the She-Ra of that time, Mara, eventually discovered what was truly going on, and she sacrificed herself to stop it from destroying the universe by putting the whole planet into another dimension called Despondos, where it was separated and away from the rest of the universe. This broke the line of She-Ras, until 1,000 years later, Adora, who was a First One but was taken and sent to Etheria.

So yeah flash forward 1,000 years, and Etheria's magic has become less balanced because not all the princesses have a connection to their runestone. There is an invading force called the Horde, who are trying to take control of the entire planet through force and colonization, and the rebellion against all that is led by Queen Angella and her daughter, Princess Glimmer and her best friend, Bow. They're fighting to keep Etheria's people and magic safe, but the Horde wants it for themselves. Adora, aka the new She-Ra, was raised in the Horde, but through a chance encounter she finds out how they're actually really bad, and she befriends Glimmer and Bow and joins their rebellion to try and fulfill She-Ra's destiny by balancing Etheria's magic. In doing so, however, she leaves behind her best friend in the Horde, Catra, who gets so angry and broken that she becomes the main antagonist for awhile, trying to defeat the rebellion.

As time goes on, more details of the past are revealed, and the rebellion/Princess Alliance fight to keep access to the Heart of Etheria away from the Horde, until Horde Prime, whose clone started the Horde on Etheria, becomes aware of Etheria and comes to take it over with his giant army and tries to gain access to the Heart so he can destroy the whole universe and start it anew. Adora/She-Ra finally realizes what her destiny is and yeah, it's....... such a wonderful show lol

It is so fascinating to me how both of ND Stevenson’s defining classic works (SPOP and “Nimona”) have main antagonists who are completely and utterly…nameless. They have no identity or names of their own. They are just…the Director of the Institute and the Prime of the Horde.

Holy shit I never realized that. Honestly considering both of these works feel very much like religious allegories it kinda reminds me of like. How do many times you'll hear religious figures just be called. The Pope. The priest. Like they have names but your first impulse is to just go Priest. Pope. And also god just being God. Also the Director always acting like "I exist to serve gloreths will." But her own bigotry is wrapped up in it. She uses Gloreths will as a justification to others and herself, where have I heard that before. And Horde Prime is just. Do I even have to say anything. All beings must suffer to become pure. The deadset on suffering as redemption. The fucking BAPTISM. The light. The fact he sounds like he's speaking in damn Bible verses in his last lines. It all feels very purposeful ngl. So yeah it all feels very That to me.

So, I watched She-Ra recently, took me a week, but that’s not the point.

While I was doing that I really liked Entrapta(why am I not surprised?).

So at some point, in between the end of s3 and the middle of s4, I had an idea that Hordak would find out about Entraptas whereabouts from Emily.

And let me explain my thoughts, Emily during the entirety of Entraptas ‘exile’ was always following people she saw as Entraptas friends, so those were people who she saw with her a lot. She tried to get help from Catra, and later started following Scorpia around, but what we never saw is her trying to get close to Hordak. I don’t think it was because she didn’t see him as Entraptas friend or because she was told by Scorpia to not go anywhere near him.

I love how it happened in the end, with Double Trouble and all, but have you thought how much more devastating it would’ve been if it was Emily? She has a recording of Catra electrocuting Entrapta. She knows what she would need to show Hordak to get his attention. And Hordak knows that Entrapta would not live Emily behind.

Tell me how "Corridors" is simultaneously one of the funniest and most heartbreaking episodes of SPOP. Bow trying to manage Entrapta and Adora at the same time on a spaceship? Iconic. *Handyman* Adora tangled up in tape after she tackled a project very much out of her wheelhouse insisting she has "everything under control"? Incredible. Entrapta custom-making Bow a spacesuit will a midriff cutout? Unparalleled.

Meanwhile, Catra? Oh, she's being threatened with having her very soul torn from her through a creepy, painful religious ritual. She's having fundamental realizations about her life, childhood, and actions. Then she makes the most heartbreaking apology as she saves a friend while struggling against clones trying to drag her to her doom. Wild.
