now i understand on an emotional level how it feels to really want to read a book and connect with an authors understanding of the world and to not be able to. a rare experience for an american english speaker who is spoiled with access and by being centered literally all of the time. obviously i understood intellectually the scope of this problem before all this but because i dont have empathy its still emotionally instructive to actually experience it myself

HAHAHAHA, I should clarify that I just mean for super hero-y ones. I mostly watch the first one and rarely watch the second (or anything after...... or remakes, lol), I think the only Marvel one I've seen in recent history is Thor: Ragnarok. Actually, the Spider-man franchise pretty much encapsulates how I interact with Marvel properties: I saw the first trilogy because it was new and exciting at the time, then they remade it too fast and I refused to pay for something I just saw, that was so recent in my memory from the release date I could still remember exact scenes from it (THERE WERE ONLY FIVE YEARS BETWEEN SPIDER-MAN 3 AND THE REBOOT - THAT IS NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THAT AGAIN. HOW IS THAT ENOUGH TIME FOR ANYONE TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THAT AGAIN???), then I watched the first Tom Holland one (fourteen years I can vibe with) and nothing that followed because that's generally when the gimmicks and cameos start in lieu of good story-telling, or they make it dark and gritty because that's the only way to ground this superhuman, right (I assume a random white guy: "Should we fridge a lady? Yeah, we should probably fridge a lady"). The first one generally at least tries to have a soul because they have to introduce the character and make you care about them but many of the ones that follow (the few I've seen from when the MCU was just starting out and I had hope *coughs*Iron Man 2, Thor 2, etc.*coughs*) are just cash grabs that don't try because you already love this character and there they are, right there, so money please!

Meg 2 however..... EPIC, NO NOTES. It knows if I was a shark girl, I was probably a dinosaur girl and it gambled correctly. That's what you're watching this for? Have three sharks and an unnecessary (probably stupid expensive) dinosaur intro that is nearly completely irrelevant to the story but that you will also not want to live without and for an extra special bonus: oblivious husbands and their brilliant daughter. Like. You got me nailed, my dude. Will watch every subsequent sequel, no questions asked.

god it is always going to drive me nuts that the moriarty the patriot anime skipped so much stuff and then gave it an ending in which moran isn't missing, MI6 was literally just formed with louis as its leader (plus moneypenny never existed and neither does moran's whole backstory), and sherlock and william somehow didn't stay together after the fall and sherlock had to go to freaking switzerland to find him, so it's like how would they ever continue to adapt the story of the manga even if they wanted to 😭

i watched the anime first, and knew about a number of things that were missing because i'd seen screenshots of them online in the past: mainly the conversation between sherlock and bonde in chapter 19 where he talked about his struggle to make the criminal justice system more equal, and literally all of chapter 31. but there is so so much else i didn't know about, so many entire chapters and important details and huge sections of other chapters!!! i ended up loving the anime but still feeling as though pretty much none of the major characters and relationships got as much development as they needed and that it was overall a bit rushed... and then i read the manga and felt so much better about how fleshed out literally everything was in comparison to the anime.

like. my dad is an anime fan and a sherlock holmes fan so i recommended the series to him, and have been explaining manga details to him that i felt were especially important. but i honestly just might ask him to read the manga if he likes the anime enough, even though he's not normally a manga reader. because during the whitechapel arc, when sherlock refuses to investigate the jack the ripper case and never elaborates on why... he thought sherlock was being an asshole who didn't care about the victims! sherlock holmes, who's supposed to care just as much about equality and justice for the oppressed as william does! but it's understandable because that's how the anime makes it look by cutting out his explanation and statement that he is in fact going to investigate! and i'm worried he's going to think sherlock saving william is rushed as well unless i make him read chapter 31 before he finishes. gahhhh why did this anime not just get an additional season instead of speedrunning to the final problem as fast as they could??

I kind of wish Enola Holmes 2 did more with Tewkesbury being left-handed, and also think it would have been neat if there was a scene between just Tewkesbury and Sherlock. I feel like both of those things could have happened in the same scene.

Fireworks, borrowed lighters and sparklers against a dark backdrop, yours is a love that burns stark and bright. It's scary though, like things that burn always tend to be, but for you it isn't the thrill of the open flames that gives pause and a slight stomach drop of terror, but rather the time when the flames go out, the sparkler ends and the night is cold and dark once again.
