I am so curious about the Holmes's mother.Sherlock kept is accent for her, she must have been and amazing person but she never appears in the story. I just want to know more about her.

I also kinda wonder if keeping the accent meant some bullying or at least ostracised in oxbridge.

Ah, I think it wasn't just for his mother. Judging from his last conversation about it, he got it from his mother's side of the family, but he seems to have kept it because...well, it's his.

It's who he is. It's a part of him he didn't want to get rid of and he's a stubborn bastard who doesn't want to change himself to better fit the world he's living in. Mycroft was willing to. Sherlock is, well. Not.

But realistically, college was likely an issue. Cockney is a very stereotyped and degraded accent and subculture of London because it's such a marker of the working class. The reason the slang is so hard to understand is because they want it to be hard to understand to outsiders.

(Which, of course, means it's perfect for Sherlock. Does he want to be understood? Yeah, of course. But changing himself to be easier to understand, making it an easy thing to know him--what's the value of that? And frankly, I get that entirely myself)

Oxbridge, on the other hand...well. Those are two of the most famous and prestigious institutions of England. I feel like at some point it said which one he went to, but I think I made that up because I can't actually find it in the text anywhere.

And, you know, it's not like he's known for having friends.
