Sherlyn Clawthorne strolled through the Bonesborough marketplace on a busy day, her favorite book and school papers secured under her arm, while her green eyes roved around the bustling atmosphere.
It was difficult to resist gazing at the sights as the market was always so lively, even in the mornings.
Shifting her attention forward, Sherlyn accidentally collides into someone, causing both their papers and their singular book to fall to the ground, along with hers.
Instantly, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she apologized to the stranger and quickly bent down to pick up their papers.
Reaching for their book, she noticed the title of the hard cover, and her eyes widened as she internally screamed.
"A Lying Witch And A Warden" was such a highly underrated and highly underappreciated book series, so Sherlyn found it surprising, yet also amazing, to find someone else sharing her rare reading taste.
Upon seeing her edition of the book being reached for by hands, Sherlyn looks up at the person, and his visage is instantly etched into her mind.
His green almond-shaped eyes, which were the same shade as Sherlyn's, were so deep and expressive that she couldn't help but get lost in them the more she gazed.
The boy, still looking back at her, shined her a shy smile as he stood up and asked in a sweet-toned voice if she was okay.
After Sherlyn gave him a small nod, he offered a hand to help her up.
Once the boy apologizes for bumping into Sherlyn and the two exchange papers and books, he introduces himself as Charles.
Charles then explains to Sherlyn that he's on his way to Hexside, a new school that he's attending, but admits to her in a sheepish tone that he's unsure if he's going the right way.
Sherlyn, having been a student at the school since kindergarten, smiles brightly at Charles and happily tells him that she's on her way there right now.
She's more than willing to lead the new witch to the magic school without hesitation.
Continuing side by side down the marketplace, Charles and Sherlyn begin to enthuse about "A Lying Witch And A Warden" like excited fans of a series would.
They agree on plans to meet up after school and read the book together.
While walking, the future couple's shoulders touched, and a sweet and sincere smile spread effortlessly on their faces.
...
Sherlyn, now an adult who also went by Miss. Clawthorne, stood by her bookshelf in her sitting room with a soft smile on her face as she read the title of the familiar book in her hands.
Her feminine fingers began to dance lightly over the title printed on the spine of the book as she remembered quite fondly how crisp the corners of the hard cover used to feel under her soft touch.
Opening up the book, she flipped to a passage and began to read it to herself.
Her mind became flooded with positive and heartfelt memories of the past, along with the silly escape methods that Edna, the main witch in the story, used to escape the wrathful wardan.
Suddenly, Charles, now an adult who also goes by Mr. Clawthorne, stepped into the small sitting room with a smile on his face upon seeing his wife with the book that was near and dear to both of them.
"Is that 'A Witch And A Warden' that I spy?"
He asked with a chuckle as he spotted the cover.
As Charles approached his wife, he placed a loving kiss on her cheek.
Sherlyn giggled, returning her husband's affection with her own kiss on his cheek.
The love he had for her never failed to make her heart flutter.
"It sure is," she happily confirmed with a warm smile, her cheeks slightly tinted with blush.
Directing her gaze back to the book, Sherlyn reads a familiar passage that causes her green eyes to glow with nostalgia.
Another chuckle is released by Charles. "What is it?" He asked with a laugh.
Sherlyn points her pointer finger at the passage she had just read to herself.
"Read this part here," the wife instructed in a gentle voice, her face melting with fondness.
She recalls it being his favorite in the book.
Charles lets out a small, blissful sigh after reading the section to himself and looks at Sherlyn with a heartfelt gaze.
"That Edna," he began. "Can you believe that after taking the time to get to know the Warden, she ultimately decides to date him in the end?"
"I know!" Sherlyn agrees, nodding her head and nearly jumping for joy.
The two adults were truly reliving their youth at that moment.
"They could have easily taken the straightforward route with her character and kept her and the Warden perpetual enemies!" she beamed.
That conclusion to Edna and the Warden's character arcs had always meant so much to the two, as it taught them during their teen years to never judge a book by its cover.
"Are you going to read the story again to the girls?" Charles asked Sherlyn, referring to their three daughters.
Shrelyn shook her head and returned the book to its proper place on the shelf.
"Oh no, not tonight," she said.
As good as the story was, Sherlyn had read "A Lying Witch And A Warden" so many times to her girls that she wanted them to experience a new tale.
One that was even more whimsical than the previous story.
Sherlyn slipped a hand inside the shelf once more, and she pulled out a light blue hard cover.
Sparkles were adorned on the picture book, along with a pretty witch princess in a flowing blue gown receiving a red rose from a handsome human prince with blonde hair.
In the background, there was a light blue castle standing tall.
The pages were glistening and emitting an aroma of blue freesia.
The book's title, which was glimmering with gold, reads "The Witch Princess."
"I was actually planning on reading them this," Sherlyn revealed with a small smile, showing the cover off to her husband.
"I had borrowed it from the Bonesborough library today."
Charles took note of the dazzling details on the book's jacket, nodding his head in approval at it.
"I see," he hummed.
He could feel the childlike joy radiating from the cover and smiled.
"Well, I'm sure the girls are going to love it," Charles assured his wife in a caring voice.
...
"... And they both lived happily ever after, learning in the end that beauty is a treasure, but graciousness is, and will always be, priceless," Sherlyn quietly read the final paragraph of the book in a calm and motherly tone while sitting on the edge of her daughters' bed.
Turning her attention toward the bed, she saw that her three little girls were happy and comfortable underneath their shared comforter, sleeping soundly side by side next to each other.
A sweet smile curled on her lips at the sight of them.
'They are so cute,' Sherlyn thought to herself as she pressed soft kisses against their cheeks before standing up and walking to the open doorway.
Looking back, she sent her daughters a gentle smile.
"Good night, my little witchlets," Sherlyn said in a hushed, honeyed tone, soundlessly slipping out the room and closing the door.
Once it shut, it didn't take long for the daughter sleeping on the right side of the bed, who wore her short orange hair in double-dutch pigtails, to crack open an eye.
Her name was Clara.
Clara slowly got out of bed, letting out some quiet giggles, as she tip-toed over to her open window sill.
Gazing outside, her green eyes, which glittered like the tapestry of stars in the sky, caught sight of the nightly atmosphere as she rested her elbows on the sill.
The Isles' velvet darkness was always a sight to see at night.
Shifting her gaze to the Titan's skull in the distance, Clara spots a shooting star flying across it from the sky.
A small gasp emits from the little witch as she kneels down, presses her palms together in prayer, and shuts her eyes.
Bowing her head, Clara began speaking from her heart.
"Dear, Mr. Titan," she began, her small voice soft and filled with innocence as she continued.
"Please bless me with the chance to one day meet a handsome human prince of my own like the princess in the story. Have him be sweet, kind, caring, and dashing, like a true gentleman, and have us have our happy ending together."
Opening her eyes, Clara smiled at the far-off skull.
"Amen," she finished, heading back to her bed and climbing into it.
Closing her eyes, she quickly fell asleep and slipped into a dream.
