repeating myself here i know but everytime i think about dave malloy’s moby dick musical i go a little wild in the brain...genuinely contains some of his best writing imo. like i think the high points of mdamr rival those of octet compositionally and preludes/comet literarily. have you LISTENED to ahab? sermon?? a squeeze of the hand?? plus there’s the variety of the more fun numbers with bosom friend and cetology and stubb kills a whale and the whale as a dish...it’s good writing! it’s good music!! or the numbers that blend drama/emotion with a deceptively sweet tune like shanty and the pacific...and then the serious/dramatic scenes. some of them are fucking gutting, brought to life and emotion even greater than melville’s original prose. whalesong interlude iii/roll on. the pequod meets the rachel (my GD i cannot listen to the pequod meets the rachel without getting weepy. i swear.) but between all the highest highs of the show there’s some deep and utter low points in the writing...i think the script is bloated, the show tries to say too much at once, it’s clumsy and meandering...and ugh, the fedallah monologue...overall the whole product as it is right now makes me so Frustrated cause i see SUCH promise in it (cause there’s So Much there already that’s amazing!!) but the combination of the high points with the lows and all the connective tissue between makes for a messy final product. i really really hope that the show gets revised and revived at some point in the future because i genuinely really want to (and hope to) see it succeed, i think it has something wonderful to offer audiences if it could just find its sea legs (as it were)

Tiago Henrique McGowan is Fùěr (also known as Sigma Tauri) meaning Whisper, because this star is marking itself and stands alone in the Whisper asterism of the Net mansion. The Net mansion is one of the western mansions of the White Tiger, his representative animal.

Marcos Gabriel dos Santos is Sabik (also known Eta Ophiuchi), from the Arabic السابق al-sābiq "the preceding one". He's the love Auramere that came right before Tiago.

Helena Mariano is Antares (also known as Alpha Scorpii) meaning "rival to-Ares". Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius. She was Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, until she found out about the Red Cult's true intention and fought against them.

Caetana Nascimento is Alkafzah (also known as Kappa Ursae Majoris), from the Arabic القفزة al-qafzah "the leap". She's the youngest of her friendgroup, and even when things are hard, she has a lot of faith that things will get better.

Brandon Mastriani is Achernar (also known as Alpha Eri) meaning "End of the River". Achernar is the brightest star in the constellation of Eridanus. Considering his presumed death and water deity, some part of his personality really did die. After his return, he connected with the air deity and became the eye of a storm above the river he once was.

Harriet Coleman is Electra (also known as 17 Tauri). Named after one of the seven Pleiades, Electra is also the designation of a comet. By way of explanation for the fact that only six of the seven stars in the constellation were readily visible, it was said that Electra, unable to behold the destruction of Troy, hid her eyes, or turned away; or, in another version, Electra, in mourning, let down her hair, and left her sisters altogether and became a "long haired star" (i.e. a "comet"). Harry has a lot of talents that she keeps hidden behind her "cool girl" mask.

Daniel Soares Prado is Aldebaran (also known as Alpha Tauri) meaning "the follower". The star comes right after the Pleiades cluster, and it's the brightest star in the constellation Taurus. Daniel follows truth wherever he goes, not caring about the consequences.

Bloom Seong is Mukokseong (also known as Alkaid, Eta Ursae Majoris and the Seventh Star of the Northern Dipper) meaning "the most corner star". Alkaid derives from the Arabic phrase meaning "The leader of the daughters of the bier", also known as the mourning maidens. By being the seventh and youngest sacred flame priestess at her temple, she is represented by this star.

Elisa Topaz is Meissa (also known as Lambda Orionis) meaning "the shining one". She's the youngest of her friend group and her energized personality is represented by this star.

  The days have been so uneasy for the voidling as of late. More nights spent sleepless than not. It eased up at least a bit in the company of his others but even then, this haze of not him-ness hung over his head. He had been sticking around them more and more because of it but things just...still got too much.

  Maybe that's why he had stepped out so late. Some small part of him hoping that some cool late night air could clear his head a little bit. A mild shake in his hands as he pulled a small snack from his bag, slowly eating away at the food in his hands as feet mindlessly took him through familiar streets, body eventually coming to a halt in a small clearing.

  Funny, he hadn't even realized where he was going, mind too lost in the fog that's been clouding him as of late. Setting himself down on a familiar patch of grass, the void took in a small breath, eyes taking in the stars above. This quiet little corner of the world, the stars twinkling overhead despite how the city lights should've drowned them out, they had always been a comfort for him in those days before he had met the others. Even now, the cool night air, the night hanging above him, it soothed the voidling. 

  Pale eyes slipped open (when had they shut?) unconsiously noticing another presence in the clearing. The being sat up, head turning to face the unknown other. Head tilted to the side lightly, a silent question to the being before him.

      "who are you?"
