Ahhh thank you for the ask...and for an excuse to gush about Zukaang🥺😍🤭

Zukaang - I ship it!

What made you ship it?

I've always loved their dynamic, and IMO their relationship is one of the best things about ATLA. Even though I shipped Kataang from the start, the way Aang and Zuko went from being mortal enemies to genuine friends is something that's so special to me. The connection they made when they glanced at each other during The Storm, and then the famous "Do you think we could have been friends, too?" scene gives me the chills EVERY TIME. There's this particular kind of vulnerability that they share with each other and no one else. They share the unique privilege and burden of being the Avatar and the Fire Lord, they're the descendants of Roku and Sozin (one literally, the other spiritually), and they're the only ones who can work to bring out about the kind of world that Aang remembers and that Zuko dreams of - TOGETHER. But what really made me ship them is how they keep getting drawn to each other and are never able to escape the other no matter how hard they try, until they both relent and accept that their destinies are inseparably intertwined, that each of them carries a part of the other within them, and dflkgjsldkfjsad IM OBSESSED

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

The vulnerability they share with each other. Both of them keep their emotional walls up pretty high. Zuko is closed off and brooding, and Aang hides a lot with his smile and seemingly open nature. Even though they let down their guard with Mai and Katara, there's a deeper part of themselves that even the women who love them can't quite touch. For Zuko, it's the validation and healing and eventually justice he seeks as someone who both perpetuates and suffers from being part of the FN imperial family's generational cycle of destruction. For Aang, it's the loneliness from being cut off from the world he once knew and from his destiny as the Avatar, a revered and almost mythical being especially in a world that has waited for his return for so long. Aang and Zuko are unique among the ATLA cast in their emotional isolation, and it's only in the moments when they bare their souls to each other (even when they're still enemies! even when it doesn't feel entirely safe!) that they begin to find a kindred spirit. (I know I sound very normal right now but I'm actually internally screaming)

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I haven't been in the Zukaang fandom for very long, but from what I can tell (and from what I'm told), there aren't a lot of Aang-centric fanworks, especially when it comes to fic. So I guess my unpopular opinion is that we could use a lot more Aang-centric Zukaang art and fic...mostly so I can enjoy it LOL. Zuko taking care of Aang? Give it to me because I. will. eat. it. UP. I've already discovered a couple of fic authors, including you, who tend to write Aang-centric fics, and they live rent-free in my brain 😍

Sahed: Why a worm?

Julia: I—what? Does it matter?? Why not a worm?

Sahed: What if you were a dragon instead? I mean, I could probably figure out a way to change you into one with a shapeshifting seal—

Julia: …but I said worm. You wouldn’t love me if I was a worm?

Sahed: I didn’t say that. But think big, Julia; they’re kinda the same thing, only the dragons have wings, and legs, and fire, yeah? Teeth, too. Great for chewing food.

Julia: *narrows eyes* Fine. I’ll be a dragon instead. And then I’ll eat you with my great chewing teeth.

Sahed: I mean, I’d eat me, too, were I you. I know I’d eat you—

Julia: BUT WOULD YOU IF I WAS A GODDAMN WORM?? BECAUSE THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT HERE—you know what, I quit. I’m going back to my quarters—

Sahed: *laughing softly, grabbing her back and holding tight* Nooooooo such a cute little worm! Staaaaaaaaaay. *kisses top of head* Mine. My Juliworm—

Sahed: *louder, talking over her* THE MOST FEROCIOUS JULIWORM, did he, the great Sahed, manage to capture again, and bring to his lair, where he gobbled her up *playful bite in her neck*—

Julia: *squirming* I’m serious, stop it, that tickles—

Sahed: —I SAID…where he gobbled her up alllllllll the way down *bites again* and when she DEMANDED to know if he loved her, he said “OF COURSE, JULIWORM, I LOVE ONLY THE WORM I EAT, AND I EAT YOU ALL THE TIME—

Julia: *grabs his face and shuts him up with kiss* You know, you really could have just said ‘yes’.

Who comes up with the best date night ideas?

Depends. Are we talking reasonable or unreasonable date night ideas? Because I feel like they’re both romantics at heart, but Sahed would have great ideas that were very spontaneous and not thought out at all (these might go swimmingly or flop tbh), and then he would have ‘great’ ideas, and they just…well, Julia will never be bored with him, I’ll just say that. Julia, on the other hand, she would put full care and effort into planning something, and it would go smoothly. Either way, those two have fun and complement each other well.

Who’s better at carnival games?

Oh, Julia. Girl has freakishly good aim, we’ve seen what she can do with knives. In a sneakier sort of way (okay, stealing), Sahed. I feel like he could make a great thief if he set his mind to it.

Who drags the other(s) onto a rollercoaster?

Sahed. Definitely. Without doubt.

Who does the most chores?

Toss-up. I hc that both do chores about equally. The big difference is, Julia just isn’t all that messy to begin with. Sahed…he gets messy. Quickly. But he’s not a complete animal, he will clean up after himself.

Who gets drunk the quickest?

I feel they��re both lightweights tbh. Sahed just doesn’t strike me as a drinker, anyway, and I just feel it in my heart that he can’t hold his booze well when he does partake. But Julia probably; I doubt she’s so much as sniffed a drink her whole life before the circus. She doesn’t know her limits.

Who watches the most reality tv?

Julia. She could watch it all day long. Sahed is probably the type that has the tv on all day, but he’s mindlessly hearing it while doing other shit.

Who insists their way is better even though it’s objectively the worst way?

Ooh, they’re both ridiculous. Okay, so probably Sahed. Because we historically, canonically have him thinking he has great ideas, and they’re…just not. But the guy is charismatic, charming, and hot as hell, so he cons people into getting into stupid plans with him. Julia isn’t any of those things other than being just as cute and pretty as can be, but Jesus, she’s stubborn, and she’ll argue and yell and holler about it forever.

Who believes in ghosts?

Both of them do. Hell, they have been ghosts before. They’re both dead. He sees spirits all the time with his third eye.

Who texts the most memes to the other(s)?

Sahed. All. Day. Long.

Who makes the most typos/autocorrect mistakes?

Sahed. He gets in a hurry or is distracted by something, and will leave out a word/group of words kind of important to the sentence, and not realize it before hitting send (he never reads his message before sending).

Who’s a more nervous flyer?

Initially? Julia. She’s never done it before, and things perceived as risky scare her. But after her first flight? She’s fine. Loves the view. Sahed, meanwhile, hates turbulence. He’s already uncomfortable on a plane, as he can’t stretch out his legs and he’s all cramped up, and turbulence makes it worse. He gets cranky and grips the armrests with every bit of turbulence. Julia just pats his hand, gives him a Benadryl, and tells him it’s nap time.

If they have matching pfps, are they cute, funny, weird, etc?

Oh, they're cute/funny/flirty, definitely. 

Who’s better at writing professional emails?

Oof. They’re both good at it. Difference is, Sahed most of the time doesn’t give a fuck, and won’t bother with emails. Julia will take her time and carefully proof her email before hitting send to ensure that it conveys the right tone, verbiage, and succinctness.

Who steals the other(s)’ food?

Sahed, because he’s an ass. To be fair, he does offer his food to Julia, and wouldn’t be irritated if she sampled off his plate, but she never does. She ordered what she ordered, and that’s what she wanted, so leave her plate alone!

Who’s more willing to commit murder for the other(s)?

Oh, I think they’re equal there. I mean, Julia tried to kill Tonny out of necessity for her own life as well as Kamille’s. I’m not convinced she didn’t have Sahed in mind too when she did it. And we already know through implied admission that Sahed has killed someone before, and he’d literally offered to kill Tonny for her so that she wouldn’t have to. So…yeah. Equal.

Sahed says they have food at home. Julia joins the chant—she wasn’t allowed to eat out ever in Kalgratt. Sahed would buy the coffee and leave just to be a butthole, but I feel like he wouldn’t do that unless it was a tease, and he was going to let the wife and kid ‘talk him into going back’ or whatever.

I feel like Sahed just by default. He’s been listening to people coming and going to shows over and over and over again over the decades, so he’s heard more.

Souheki my beloved.... Okay I'm going for my personal headcanon that they both have ME/CFS.

Ranpo has chronic pain everywhere, and balance related issues because of this he uses a cane. He also has NPD and HPD.

Dazai also has chronic pain but only in his legs, has a prosthetic eye, and uses forearm crutches. Dazai also has cluster b disorders (but no one knows which ones exactly) and depression.

💮- If one of the characters in the ship are having a bad disability day how long does it take the other(s) to pick up on the fact that they're struggling? Are they good at picking up on the signs, if not, is there a point that they do notice without being told?

Both are incredibly good at picking up on each others signs. Because of this at the start of their relationship they tried to mask their pain so they didn't worry the other or be seen as a 'burden'. Despite this they can still pick up on each others signs quickly, although Ranpo is better than Dazai.

As their relationship develops they stop masking so much, partly because they're accepting the other into their life more and also because there's no point.

🪷- If all characters in the relationship are disabled, what would happen if all of them were having a bad disability day?

Usually when this happens it starts with the two of them in their bed, unable to move from pain, fatigue, or feelings of worthlessness. When this happens it's established very quickly that neither of them are able to do anything.

They then usually call their friends at the ADA to help, if they can they ask Yosano or Kunikida, but if they aren't available they sometimes ask Fukuzawa or Atsushi- Both of whom they don't like to ask, Atsushi due to his age and Fukuzawa because he will quiz them on how they've been looking after themselves (which, usually, is not very well).

🏵️- How do the characters in the ship react to their partner(s) looking after them? Is it easy for them to accept their partner(s) help? Has this changed over time?

Ironically, it was harder for Ranpo to accept Dazai's help than for Dazai to accept his. Dazai had prior experience with Chuuya helping him as a teen, so while sometimes he grits his teeth and can occasionally snaps at Ranpo for trying to help, he always apologizes and thanks him for doing what he can.

For Ranpo it's harder, before Dazai he hadn't had a close relationship to anyone outside of his parents and Fukuzawa- but obviously it's different with a partner than it is with parental figures. Because of his own pride and stubbornness, Ranpo had a really hard time accepting help, fearing that he would be seen as weak and/or as a burden.

So when Dazai came into his life and they got together, Ranpo struggled really really badly with the idea of letting his partner seeing him at head weakest. Sometimes he'd yell, scream, even cry when Dazai offered to help, often time ending in Fukuzawa coming over to help instead and lecturing Ranpo over his behavior.

As times gone on, Ranpo has learned to accept Dazai's help and has even apologized to him for the way he would react at the start of their relationship (which is a huge step for Ranpo- in my mind he struggles with saying sorry or giving any type of apology).

Makes sense. Because after you've had the full force of your otherworldly lover beaming at you like the sun, and then been wrung out dry due to that experience going awry, you will likely try and find comfort in someone normal and (comparatively) neutral.

Compels me. I'll be honest the fact that Dovi has had so many wins because he analysed Marc's riding style and played the perfect foil to it is kinda crazy. You're telling me you were riding at 300km/h and also perfectly in tune with the mind of this other ridiculously talented guy that you managed to overtake him near the end. There is some degree of complicated psychosexual insanity here, I have to admit.

Imo we collectively can't conceptualize dovquez without remembering that Vale's shadow looms over the whole deal. But I still think that Dovi makes for a far more interesting read when he's not resigned to being the other™️.
