What are your feelings now that The Witcher has cast a canon Valdo Marx?

Complicated. Conflicted. Confused.

On the one hand, I am looking forward to Jaskier having someone to banter off of/face off with that is his equal. I know he's been on a slow level-up path, but he's still outclassed by Witchers and Sorceresses and etc. Plus, I think having more regular people and intrigue could be really interesting for plot direction. (The actor they chose is also quite pretty, so I can't complain there either). And I assume as a bard they cast someone who, like Joey, can sing with the best of them, and that gives me great hope for a Bard-Off and/or some fantastic season 3 songs.

On the other hand, there are already So. Many. Characters. and I don't think, as someone who is essentially a canon foreigner, Valdo is necessary. Jaskier vs Cahir would still be a battle of the Regular™ Men. Jaskier has at this point earned his ability to go toe to toe with spymasters and generals I think. It would be a better way to highlight his skill and how one of the things that makes him dangerous is that he's underestimated.

I also think that casting Valdo is an attempt to cash in on the love we all have for him among the fandom. But the thing that makes him loveable is that he's such a blank slate and there can be 1000 wildly different takes, and all of them make us go "Yup. Classic Valdo." You know, for example some of us write him as Jaskier's rival, or Jaskier in a moustache, or Jaskier's ex. Some of us have reinterpreted him as a jerk with a heart of gold and made him into a love interest for an OC or reader-insert. Some of us made him the Phantom of the Opera. And all of us were correct. Except now, none of us are?

There is also a little part of me that wants to respond to the casting by deleting all of my Valdo fics, and then maybe rewriting them to fit the show Valdo if I decide I like him, but that's probably the imposter syndrome talking.

But also Elliot Waugh from The Magicians: fantastic sense of style, caught between the desire for The Drama and wanting to never deal with anything ever or have problems, would literally die for your friends, Trying Your Best™

(These are both meant extremely complimentarily because Leon is Great and Elliot is one of my most beloved characters. I am aware my descriptions are a little close to roast-y 💙)

Ngl, I was waiting for Leon! I love him sm. I love the majority of Rob's characters but Leon has a special place in my heart if I'm totally honest. I sometimes question how I give off Leon vibes because a lot of the time I don't think I do and other times I'm here and I'm like "ah, that's why" but I honestly love being likened to the character because I think everyone knows by now that he's my favourite (along with Klaus obviously)

I have never seen The Magicians but I did give him a quick google and that man do be fine as hell!!! But going off how you've described him, that is very much me. Though I question the fantastic sense of style as half the time I look like a reject from either the 60s/70s or 80s 😂 but I definitely agree with everything else. Especially the friends part, my friends are my chosen family whether they're real life friends or online and there's nothing I wouldn't do for them.

I don't think your description are close to roast-y at all. I like the way you describe stuff because it gives me a better sense, in this case, of what a character I don't know, is like which in turn gives me more to work with and reply too if that makes sense.

They fall in love over and over despite themselves.

She reminds him that there's more to the world, and that he can't stay inside his own head/song.

And in the end that is what dooms her.

5) What is your opinion on slasher movies?

I don’t have a huge opinion on this, honestly? I think I would love them, but in all honesty I haven’t seen a ton of the classic slasher movies. If it counts, I kind of love the Babysitter movies that are newer, so I think I would like them, but I just don’t know! Horror movies in general I’m a fan of, as long as it’s not cannibalism bc I can’t do that at all.

13) What type of weather is the scariest for you?

I think I get freaked out by weather that comes right before tornados? Like when everything is still and sometimes the sky looks a little green, and you can’t hear any animals anymore, that’s really freaky. I haven’t ever experienced other natural disasters, but I also think hurricanes would freak me out a ton.

20) Does the thought of aliens make you hopeful or terrified?

A bit of both. Mostly hopeful. Honestly I can’t see how aliens could be any more violent and terrible than humans are, so they don’t worry me anymore than humans do. Also I love the idea of completely different beings out there, and I wonder if they have as much anxiety as humans do. That’s a random thing to wonder, i know, but like I wonder if other beings aren’t as freaked about everything.

21) What children’s story/nursery rhyme scarred you as a child (or as an adult)?

I can’t think of anything specific as a kid, but wolves (ones that walk on two legs and talk) freaked me out a ton as a kid, so i feel like red riding hood or something like that WOULDVE scared me. Also, I read Coraline as a kid and loved it, but it freaks me out SO MUCH as an adult. Why is it okay for kids? Why did we all like it as kids???
