Smaugust 4 - Draco saturnia
Last month I asked people to send me some of their favorite animals/plants/minerals. I'm now dragonizing the items on that list for Smaugust art prompts, attempting to draw one a day through the entire month.
This dragon is inspired by Saturnia pavonia, a moth of the British Isles. I went with a body plan inspired by dragons in European medieval art as homage to the moth's native range.

“Under”
Even more so than sauropods, dragons are ecosystems unto themselves. Their carnivorous habits leave them crawling with particles of blood, flesh, and the microorganisms that will feed on them. Which, in turn, provides food for countless insects. Others choose to do what few legendary heroes can boast and slowly eat and kill the dragons.
Pictured here parasitizing a blue dragon: a giant tick, a mosquazo (relative of the mosquito adapted to finding tiny chinks in dragon scales, along with minor elemental resistance), dragon barnacles (parasitic snails), and a small lightning elemental prolonging its energy body by stealing the elemental power from the unsuspecting tyrant.
Kobolds are more than just household guards.

Though colloquially called the Bark-winged Birdsnatcher, the most common prey items of this little dragon are the fingers of unsuspecting entomologists.

Lovely and Terrible Creatures: A Collection of Dragon Poetry
For the truly daring out there, venture into the world of the loveliest and terrible creatures: dragons. Written a poem a day throughout the month of dragons (Smaugust, also known as August), this collection of thirty-one poems explores the beauty, humor, terror, and tragedy of these great beasts of legend.
I finally edited my Smaugust poems and slapped them together into a pretty ebook! Only the basic Ko-fi $3 for cleaner poems than I posted (and you can still check out) here on @revenantpoet, plus a bonus poem, clocking in at over 7k words for all 31 poems. :D Thank you so much to anyone who considers supporting or sharing, it means a ton!!!
